It is a fact that the native internet calling client on Android 2.3 only works via wifi.
There must be a way to override this limitation and make it work via 3G. Are there any devs working on this? Did anybody figure it out already?
I know I could always install and go with a 3rd party sip app, but my experience with all of them is that they all have issues.

I am running the CIngular branded ROM downloaded from this site and every sice the installation Skype will not work. Skype comes up and asks if I want it to connect to the cellular network and when I click yes it immediately says Cannot connet, check network settings.
Network settings are fine, IE works, OPutlook works, no problems.
Any ideas?
If you want to use Voip I suggest you use Sjlabs WM5 beta.
Skype is IMHO too heavy for handleds.
Skype that WORKS w/ Voice feature on PDA/Phone?
Dears,
DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHICH ONE DOES WORK WITH SKYPE VOICE??
I have been researching extensively different types of PDA-Cellsphone combos that WILL work with Skype-OUT/IN voice feature, the Skype.com site provides a list of ones that will not work (such as Jus-Jam and HTC TyTN).
Thank you.

hey guys,
not sure if anyone knows the answer to this, or even if theres software available that will do this.....
i have the HD as a handset. it has wifi - we all know that.
my work has cisco VOIP system (SIP-based), that could be configured to allow traffic to our wifi network (or a new SSID setup for VOIP).
i know their is some SIP software out there, but apparently it disables bluetooth once installed - so this peice of software is no good.
HOWEVER, would i would like is when wifi is enabled and sucessfully connected and the SIP (VOIP) software sucessfully connects to the server, then all calls made are via wifi as default.
so, the questions:
- is there any software available that has the above features?
- would i need 'line2' enabled from my service provider?
think fring support sip
that would be a good test platform, but i forgot to mention that i would prefer it to be intergrated into the existing dialer, rather than a 3rd party app.
somewhat like how 'video calling' is, but obviously via a pre-configured SIP service.
the last time i looked into this voip drivers for integration stopped the GPS function working (it has been a couple of months since i last checked though), so i use either agephone (paid app) or fring (free) for SIP calls, both of which will use the contacts on your phone.
not so much the contacts, it's the fact i have to load/switch to a 3rd party app to use SIP.
the app you used that disabled GPS, could well be the one i used. i remember it disabling one of the phones' featured that i used.

I have my my voip account working on fring everything is great including the call quality 3g/wifi. I like some of the features of the other voip/sip clients and have downloaded everyone from the market (yes everyone) the problem is call quality is really bad enem over wifi and 3g forget about it. Anyone have same issue or setting that work great on anyother app.
3cx
sorry, i can't answer your question, but have you been able to get the 3cx app to work? It is supposedly a good one but has been in/out of the market. what voip provider do you use? btw
This is the only one I cant get to work. I use Nextiva for VOIP
this weekend ill give some input on various sip clients and how they register to both viatalk and various cisco devices (cucm, cme, etc).

I have developed a simple client sip application on andorid by using SipDemo example which is provided by Google.
My application(everything such as Authentication, Streaming, ...) works perfect over my WiFi network, but when I switch it in 3G network, just authentication of SIP session works fine and the audio streaming does not work!!??
By the way I have a desktop client SIP application(written in C#) that works perfect with my android client app over 3G network, it means that streaming does not work when two client is android in 3G network, but when one of clients changes to my desktop SIP client application(written by C#) streaming works perfectly.
Does any body run SIP stack which provided in android 2.3 in 3G network? in the following links it's been told that Sip Stack does not work in 3G network, if so why I can use SIP in 3G network when one client is SipDemo and another is c# client in windows desktop application?

No body knows
Please someone gimme a hint (((
Why no one helps?
As I know, Google disable the option for the native SIP to work over 3G, in some deviced, the all SIP was disable.
Check that: http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/07...laxy-s2-sii-for-making-calls-on-wi-fi-and-3g/
Maybe it will solve your problem also.

Thanks for your reply but as I have mentioned SIP auth works fine over 3G and laso I can trace stream packets which is sent by client to another client, so it means it is not related to the "config_sip_wifi_only"
I'm not sure if anyone has missed this, but "Internet Calling" (native SIP) for 602 had either been removed or disabled. This is functionality that I would like to find a solution for. You should be able to find it in Settings > Call Settings > Internet Calling.
A huge incentive for getting the native SIP stack installed and working is for free calling (obviously). Having a PBXes, IPKall, and Google Voice account set up correctly, combined with the native stack means Google voice can be used as the outbound method and the native SIP will receive the call, no activation necessary. The other plus is, well, it's integrated and there isn't a need for another app.
This functionality is built into the gingerbread CM7. I'm attempting to find a solution for the stock 602, deodexed of course.
I'm looking for a little collaboration with devs to find a solution for implementing the SIP stack. This is going to be my first real undertaking on a project that could be potentially large.
I have tried this method, however the packages it references aren't even included in 602 for DX and therefore, not working. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109962)
Would there be any support for this from users or devs?
Just to clarify, I mean support as in, if I put work into this will there be anyone that uses it? I don't want to work endlessly for something that only I'm going to use.
