"No service" when streaming video with 3g off - Galaxy Tab General

Hi everyone I have a Verizon tab which u activated without 3g. I used the up down volume trick to by pass activation which worked well. The only problem I have is that whenever I want to stream videos I get a message saying no service. Even though I have a great wifi signal. If I turn the 3g radio on, even though its not active, shows that I'm roaming and still on wifi I can stream the videos. Its not a huge deal I guess to turn on the 3g radio but seems like I shouldn't have to do that.
Anyone else having this issue? Any advice? Thanks!

Any thoughts on this?

Youtube HD only works in 3G & Wireless but not on HSDPA?

Hi,
I just got a AU 3's HTC Magic, and I've got a data plan that i probably won't use up every month.
So I tried to watch youtube, however, the resolution is so horriable, that i decided just listen to it rather than watching.
Then I tried with wifi, and i realise the quality is so much better, the pictures are clear. However, when I switch back to HSDPA, the picture quality goes bad again.
Yesterday, I was surfing on a taiwanese forum called mobile01.com, and someone encounter similar problem, however, the problem is, HQ can be achieved on 3G mode, but not HSDPA. So i tried, and i it is true.
My problem is, you can't really switch between 3G & HSDPA, it's mostly HSDPA here in Brisbane, Australia. whenever I got a 3G signal, it normally change back to H mode in about 30s.
So, I'm wondering is there some kind of hack to the youtube application that I can watch HQ on H mode or is there a newer version of youtube application that I can get.
Regards,
Katsuya
i have a ROGERS MAGIC, same issue, although mine NEVER goes to 3G, as far as i can tell. Its either EDGE or HSDPA.
ive read only in WIFI it will allow high quality as its OPTIMIZED for connection speed now
PERHAPS installing the YOUTUBE app from the G1 will work ??? this one has the settings to change back and forth

Streaming media app only working over HSDPA but not wifi?

Why doesn't it work over wifi
anyone have any idea?
I have the same problem. Set bands to GSM only, as I am in the US and can't receive 3G. Works with Edge data, but can't receive youtube videos on wifi.

it's really annoying and i can't find a valid reason as to why it won't work! this is only for the streaming media app by the way, youtube works fine. It comes up with an error message saying failed to find network
Has anyone resolved this issue with youtube in US on AT&T sim card? We can download videos on Edge network, but no download connection on wi-fi. I would really like to solve this, since we don't have the capability to download at 3G speeds. Can anyone help with this? thanks.

That's because you can't!
EDGE is 2G, and on 2G you don't get simultaneous voice and data.
If you are connected via 3G, you should be able to do it.

Dave
BTW, that T-Mo Tab doesn't support AT&T 3G frequencies normally, and I don't know if it has a soft radio to allow for flashing that kind of support or if it's still a "hard" radio like most phones and devices are.

It is a hardware limitation. T-mo tab=t-mo frequencies and no rom or modem flash or settings can change that. So EDGE will be the fastest cellular speed you can get. And no simultanious data/voice.
Ok I hope someone fix that edge issue. It would have been better that i had bought AT&T tab because of voice and 3G.
...so why did you buy thr t-mo version? This part lost me.

It isn't an EDGE "issue" because it simply isn't possible under EDGE!

Dave
First of all, it IS an issue. Agreed, you can't do both data and voice while on Edge. However, what happens is that if you are surfing on Edge (data) and you receive a call, your data connection drops off and allows the voice connection to take control!
pat123 but i did roto's 2g modem update. Do you know 2g and data works together?

Still not an issue, because that is under the carriers control to decide whether or not to prioritise voice or data. If you are on a network that supports NOM1, when an incoming call is received the *network* suspends your data connection to allow your call through. If however, you are on a NOM2 network, this does not happen, and no amount of ROM flashing or tweaking is going to make the slightest difference.
The point is that unless you are on a NOM1 network, there is nothing you can do about it from your phone!

Dave
The technical term is network capability. That network is older than android.
Thanks all got it

My weird 4g on my boosted flashed Evo

Well to start off i have NOOOOOO TYPE OF 4G PLAN WITH CLEAR. but when i input the the clear-wmx.net setting in EPST and hit commited and turned on 4g and went to my browser it automaticly started working. All my apps work with it expect when i try 2 stream videos it says i have no internet connection. Even speedtest works with it. i get about 1.2-3.0 MBs with one-two bars of 4g. Can anybody tell me whats happening or at least a fix for streaming video

Wifi Calling is a joke on at&t Galaxies... Why?

Since I got the S8 and enabled wifi calling I've noticed some issues...
Half the time I look at the wifi icon the WiFi calling circle isn't there. No matter if I'm on my 5ghz or 2.4ghz wifi. Same at work or any other wifi. It seems to come and go. Sometimes resulting in messages taking forever to send because it's trying to send over WiFi but it's randomly dropped wifi calling.
I had the same problem on my att S7, so it's not just this phone...
HOWEVER, my TMobile S7E will kick wifi calling on the second I connect to WiFi and will STAY on the entire time I'm on it. I could even turn on airplane mode, then Wi-Fi while I'm at work and not worry about missing anything at all. If I do the same with my att S8, I get flooded with texts I didn't get when I turn airplane mode off and reconnect to cellular.
Anyone else notice the wifi calling is flaky??
Wifi calling works well on my device may be its isp problem

Again, TMobile works on ANY wifi. Any att phone I use it comes and goes or doesn't work at all.

My s8+ and s7e and note 5 WiFi are working fine on any WiFi network. No problem at all. Maybe you got problem with hardware.
On Edge of Galaxy
It only works when the signal reception is poor and turns off automatically when the signal is good.

This is indeed how it works on AT&T and it works a treat. Hand over even works very well when going from inside a building to outside with cell signal.
Except when you don't realize a message didn't send because it doesn't know how to send it or when you turn WiFi off and get a bunch of texts you should've received hours before.

I have not experienced this, sorry.
I am having the problem too.
Maybe enable aggressive handoff in Dev options?
