[Q] Pics sent via MMS / Facebook don't include rotation information? - Nexus S General

I'm having an odd problem that I haven't seen yet. I'm hoping I don't have a hardware issue. =(
When I send photos taken with my Nexus S via mms or upload directly to facebook, it seems like the rotation information is being stripped from the jpg.
I know the rotation information is properly embedded in the file because if I email the photo it is shown rotated properly wherever I view it...
It's not a show stopper, it's just annoying as heck. Has anyone else seen this phenomena? Is there a setting somewhere that maybe I fubared?
Thanks,
Ricky

I've seen it on MMS - don't use facebook. It is kind of annoying for MMS messages.

Any way to fix this problem? very annoying. Can't MMS or facebook a proper picture.

I'm seeing it too, even on CyanogenMod.

Try it again landscape problem has been corrected

No it has not. its a software related isssue

I just noticed this as well... Pondering what it might be, also annoying as hell.

As far as I know, it's always been this way. It was on my Vibrant, anyhow. It would certainly be nice to get it fixed, but I think that's on the developers of the apps that use those pictures, unless it's a problem with the camera/gallery software somehow.

It's not on the developers at all. This never happened on the Nexus One with Facebook or MMS, so It's Samsung's bad because it happens on Galaxy S phones too.

mms image blurry when received
My problem is when I receive a image from a friend, the image is not clear, It is highly compressed and blurry even after downloaded on the phone. I have been hearing it has to do with t-mobile. Can anyone confirm?

mms
My wife has Iphone 4 with AT & Tand I send her mms from my Nexus S and she received it fine, also send one to my old Samsung i8910 that has still AT&T service running and I can see it fine. Didn't try to send one back to me to see if I get blurry pictures like you guys are getting.
I was trying to send a pic of a christmas present to my sister yesterday and she didn't get it, but then i sent it again and she did. she has an iPhone 3gs (at&t obviously)

It's more an hackish workaround than a real solution
Just wanted to chime in here.
I am doing some troubleshooting with a friend who is on a Nexus S. I have a Captivate running Perception 9. Initially, I thought it was a ROM related issue on my end. Then, I found this thread and realized it's on his side.
Captivate -> Nexus S. MMS works fine.
Nexus S -> Captivate. Black screen.
I'll leave it to you NS owners to figure out the appropriate solution!
Sure

Hello,
When my phone is locked and I receive a notification from facebook or facebook messenger or ebay and I try to access it by dragging down the notification bar while the phone is locked, I simply press on the notification and nothing happens.
With whatsapp I dont encounter this issue.
Does anyone else experience the same?
Thanks
I am using i9505 on 4.3 stock (MJ7)
Anyone please?

Same here, some apps work some don't. The one that bothers me alot are facebook apps can't be open from the lockscreen by tapping on the notification T_T apps like gmail or SMS work normally.

I dont know. I noticed that if you click on the notification of facebook for example, it opens it but it just doesn't unlock the phone. Seems like it doesn't have the permision to unlock the phone. Maybe it will be patched in future updates... I used that feature to open FB messeges alot..

Gmail app not pushing

Got my new verizon s7 sat. I can't get Gmail to push new emails, it only works if I open the app and manually refresh. I have tried wiping cache and data for the app, ensured that the sync Gmail in settings >accounts is on.... which it seems to get hung up there occasionally, I see the circle but it isn't spinning. I have turned on all the settings in the app too

As far as I have seen, this problem has been around since January sometime. No it has not been fixed though according to this article they know what the issue is. I don't know what they are waiting for to fix this. I have heard Inbox is working better. You can look into that if its urgent enough.

This article was posted in febuary and states that some people at google said this:
"Thanks again for your patience on this while the team investigated the issue. I’m happy to announce that a fix has started to roll out. This fix requires no action, and will roll out globally over the next week."

One of the suggestions in there is to use CloudMagic. It seems to be helping with instant notifications for those of us that need to have emails notify of us instantly.
Hope this is helpful.

Well it appears to be working again, I cracked my screen already on my phone, so I got a new one through insurance. Fired it up last night and the Gmail app is pushing as normal not sure if it was an update , I had the app set to stop syncing before maybe it worked with the old phone after an update , regardless it is working now

MMS pictures pixels

I have been scrolling through looking for answers, I have a s7 on att fully stocked. When I send a pic through the default app or a 3nd party ( exp: chomp, hangouts) about 2 out of 10 pics come out looking chopped in half and messed up on the receivers end. I have noticed this with people on multiple carriers and a range of different model phones receiving the pics.
Any answers? I have already hard reset it and problem continues...

I know, I have done resets, different messenger apps and other things testing. I'm pretty advanced with android but even this I come up short with. I wish someone had a answer. Is your wife on att also? Does she have the new wifi calling enabled? If so sms goes out over wifi not just calls. I have noticed it with and with out wifi calling enabled. I just want to find a common variable between them. :silly:

When att released the advanced messaging feature. I've had this issue, I would get chopped pictures or none at all (failed to download). After disabling the advanced messaging feature. I haven't had this issue.

Not really but we don't use it for anything serious. There's always incognito mode that offers encryption.

Actually Snowden did. Because there's no real ecryption. Again, unless you use Incognito mode.

Google Messenger image compression.

Anyone else having issues with blurry sent images (mms) using messenger? I've been using it since the G3 and have never had this problem before.. If I use the stock app I have no issues. It seemes to be soley messenger. Recieved mms are completely legible, it only effects outgoing.. The recipient cannot see the image either.

It has done that to me too, but only after I restored messages from a back-up. This image compression thing has never happened until the V20. My G3, G4 and V10 never had this issue. Thinking google messed some sh*t up in updating it. The latest version has a new icon and also seems to have a lower dpi now, or it matches what ever the user has set in nougat's new dpi changer.. Looks kinda like a mini overhaul.

Did that to me at unrooted stock with a clean database on Shamu. Did it to others so I heard with my contacts in the Shamu dev scene.
Google is just as terrible at making chat apps as Microsoft is at making and selling phone OSes

Believe me, I hear ya. Its been frustrating the hell out of me. And even more disappointing its still happening on the new phone I'll have next week.'
Anyway I didn't do much research once I noticed it, but once I saw this thread, the only common denominator would be Nougat. We'll see if anyone else chimes in. I like Google Messenger too, hopefully it gets sorted out.
