mms image blurry when received
My problem is when I receive a image from a friend, the image is not clear, It is highly compressed and blurry even after downloaded on the phone. I have been hearing it has to do with t-mobile. Can anyone confirm?

No issues with any other phones/providers. Don't have any other friends with att though.

mms
My wife has Iphone 4 with AT & Tand I send her mms from my Nexus S and she received it fine, also send one to my old Samsung i8910 that has still AT&T service running and I can see it fine. Didn't try to send one back to me to see if I get blurry pictures like you guys are getting.
I was trying to send a pic of a christmas present to my sister yesterday and she didn't get it, but then i sent it again and she did. she has an iPhone 3gs (at&t obviously)

It's more an hackish workaround than a real solution
Just wanted to chime in here.
I am doing some troubleshooting with a friend who is on a Nexus S. I have a Captivate running Perception 9. Initially, I thought it was a ROM related issue on my end. Then, I found this thread and realized it's on his side.
Captivate -> Nexus S. MMS works fine.
Nexus S -> Captivate. Black screen.
I'll leave it to you NS owners to figure out the appropriate solution!
Sure

I'm having an odd problem that I haven't seen yet. I'm hoping I don't have a hardware issue. =(
When I send photos taken with my Nexus S via mms or upload directly to facebook, it seems like the rotation information is being stripped from the jpg.
I know the rotation information is properly embedded in the file because if I email the photo it is shown rotated properly wherever I view it...
It's not a show stopper, it's just annoying as heck. Has anyone else seen this phenomena? Is there a setting somewhere that maybe I fubared?
Thanks,
Ricky

I've seen it on MMS - don't use facebook. It is kind of annoying for MMS messages.
Any way to fix this problem? very annoying. Can't MMS or facebook a proper picture.

No it has not. its a software related isssue
I just noticed this as well... Pondering what it might be, also annoying as hell.
As far as I know, it's always been this way. It was on my Vibrant, anyhow. It would certainly be nice to get it fixed, but I think that's on the developers of the apps that use those pictures, unless it's a problem with the camera/gallery software somehow.

It's not on the developers at all. This never happened on the Nexus One with Facebook or MMS, so It's Samsung's bad because it happens on Galaxy S phones too.

Hi everyone,
Ive recently got a nexus 4, its been working awsome until recently.
My mms quality is really bad, like, i cant read anything bad, its just a big blob of pixels...
This happened right after i unlocked and rooted my phone... I also installed francos kernel, then fauxs, then back to stock to see if it improves, still nothing...
It was working fine when i was on stock, i have a friend whos on same network, same phone, rooted and unlocked, stock rom and kernel, and when he sends me mms, the picture is nice and clear...
I really have no idea how to fix this, i couldnt find anything usefull regarding this issue on this forum or on google, i tried go sms, same thing, couldnt find any pic size option in the settings...
Anyone know how to fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated

I checked my APN, there were some differences, so I created a new one with the right fields filled in, checked the new APN as my new default one, rebooted, same issue, MMS are just horrible, super bad quality
I also flashed a new ROM, so I wiped everything and reflashed, still same issue... I really don't know what to do, it was working great on stock ROM unrooted locked phone, so I know there must be a way to fix this...
Thanks for your help, its much appreciated.

Odds are it's the UA Prof which the carrier reads to see what your phone is capable of. You did say you switched back to stock and the issue didn't go away so that might not be it but that's generally the cause. If the carrier doesn't know or can't read your UA then it assumes it's a dumb phone and resizes images to the lowest quality.
Did you go 100% stock or you meant stock kernel?

i went back to stock kernel, but at that point, i was on stock rom, i only flashed a rom afterwards to see if it would help.
i have found a workaround though for sending pics, i decided to play with my cameras quality settings, and reducedthe quality from 8 mega pixels to 5, and surprisingly, that solved the issue for pictures! so 5 mpix shots work good with mms!
i still have the same issue with 8 mpix shots, and screenshots though, i used to be able to take a screenshot of my work schedule, and send it to my gf, cant do that anymore...
is there a way to reduce the screenshot quality?
Im sure most of you read the news about hangouts now supports vzw mms or vzw finally supporting google voice... regardless, this is great news for me since my primary phone has being my Google voice for a long time.
I'm looking forward to a way of making hangouts being less laggy on the Note, if anyone was able to make it more smooth, please share.

Right... it is weird, it is very laggy on my wife's S5, was laggy on my S5. It is laggy on a G3 I have laying around and also on my Galaxy Tab S. I have a original Moto X and on the Moto X it isn't laggy... I'll keep an eye on the development of this issue, I have 2 year warranty anyway (and never keep a phone for that long) if it turns out to be a defective device I'll replace it.

Thanks for this! I've been giving out my Google Voice number for years and the whole MMS thing has been the one thing I hated about it.
I just tested with a friend who sent me a pic and it got shifted over to email. Not ideal, but since I get email on the phone too it's a lot better than it just disappearing into cyberspace.
I haven't integrated Hangouts with Voice yet so maybe that's why it got turned into an email. I've been hesitant to integrate the two. Does anyone know how to separate them again if I try it and don't like it?

I don't know how to separate them, never tried really but the reason you got the picture on an email is because the Google voice app doesn't support pictures, even back in the day when T-Mobile and Sprint were the only two supported for MMS I think it was received as an email.
Make the jump to hangouts and it will all work fine. By the way, when you switch it to hangouts, you'll have to forward your calls again to your Verizon phone # OR you can use the hangouts app to make and receive phone calls. The calls handled by hangouts are over WiFi or data, like VOIP

I had the same issue, tried every single SMS app, did a full wipe. No difference. Will be sending the phone back if I can't figure it out soon. I though it may have been an issue with Verizon not recognizing the phone. Will try to edit the build prop
Moto x 2014 on Verizon had the same problem. Thread died out so maybe they found a solution

This makes no sense. There has to be a solution

I know this doesn't help, but I have no problem with MMS on At&t. I use YAATA as my MMS app.
Just wanted to add - Im on VZW as well, same low res images, I've only tried Google Messenger so far, and I agree would be a deal breaker for me.
This used to happen on other Phones if I used CM12.1, as it was a known bug, and I couldn't handle using CM becuase of it.
its verizon reducing the quality of the image in order to reduce its data footprint. Very doubtful its a problem just with the moto x

The quality of MMS on my Nexus 6 isn't that great a lot of the time. How much worse is this? Are the pictures unusable?
you know, at first I was just somewhat annoyed by this, but after getting some over the last two days, it may be a deal breaker. The pictures are over saturated and grainy, and generally look like s#*t. If this is just " how it is", coupled with the other Verizon issues (no HD calling, no video chat) I may have to take a pass...

FYI - I think HD Calling works fine? - "enhanced 4g LTE mode" is on for me, you may have to call vzw to get it to work (I had to with Nexus 6), b/c it won't be turned on unless they mark you with a phone that they know is compatible. (also have to add it to your account, although its free).
But I agree, the photo quality is so low that you can't use them for anything, blurry photos.
The photo's are coming through at between 10-20kb, completely unusable.

Is this something I can enable on my account page on myvzw?
Also the mms image quality is at an all time low. Any way to edit build.prop for better mms?
Edit: Sending mms isn't a problem. Sent mms to wife and her galaxy s6 received the image at around 720kb.
Sent me an mms and it comes in at 17kb.
I am rooted. So, if their is a root method to fixing this, that would be great.

Yes I agree - I found a discussion for HTC phones where someone was manually editing mms.apk to allow for higher total, I didn't see anywhere on how to actually do it, or am I technical enough to do it.
Currently using MXP rooted on Textra and have not had an issue with mms. Granted my mom's phone is a POS but they're coming in at ~110-170 kbs
Also using Textra and get pics at 100-200 in size. Perhaps it's the default messaging app?

It has done that to me too, but only after I restored messages from a back-up. This image compression thing has never happened until the V20. My G3, G4 and V10 never had this issue. Thinking google messed some sh*t up in updating it. The latest version has a new icon and also seems to have a lower dpi now, or it matches what ever the user has set in nougat's new dpi changer.. Looks kinda like a mini overhaul.
