I ask this because my buddy has upgraded to the newest MIUI build, and now he can send texts, but CANNOT receive them.
But wait! This is not the messed up part. The thing that is boggling our minds is that we did a nandroid restore to several backups, and even flashed CM6 instead, and he still can't get texts.
Any advice?
Have you performed a full wipe?

Check with data support too. That sounds more network related than device related.
if i recall correctly it is mms.apk that controls texts in /system/apps because once when I deleted it I couldn't send or receive. Since he can receive but not send it seems like some kind of setting within his messaging client. try HandCent SMS or ChompSMS and see if it works.

Here's a weird one. I just found out one of my contacts hasn't been getting my texts for the last 2 weeks. I still receive his but can't send even though I do get a sent verification.
I can send to everyone else w/ no prob & he receives texts from others with no problem too.
I D/L'ed & used handcent for a while & then uninstalled it... Could that be it? WTH happened?!?!
Thanks for the help.

might be a weird question, but what phone does you friend have?
me and my friend had the same problem..i wasnt receiving his text, but he was receiving mine.
There are a few bugs in the messaging app. In your case, it sounds like your friend's phone number / name has become associated with a different phone number (within the messaging cache). So, even though your display will show your friend's name, that's not where the messages will be sent.
Try to delete all of your threads and then reboot the phone. If that doesn't work, try clearing the data for the messaging app and then reboot your phone. That should do it. If that doesn't work, you can take the most drastic step, which is to do a factory reset, but then you'll need to do a restore of your apps and other data that would get wiped out.
Secondarily, there's a slightly different bug that could be happening (one that is much more rare than the first) - which is that your friend's phone number is the same, except for the area code, as someone else in your contact list. The messaging app only looks at the last 7 digits to determine a match for the phone number, so 415-123-1234 will match 310-123-1234. This one is much more rare, but that's another possibility.
BTW, these problems are internal to a specific Android class, so it doesn't matter whether you use Handcent or the stock messaging app.
Hope this helps.
I am not receiving all texts when under CM7. I have my phone integrated with Google Voice but the texts also come to the stock text message app. In CM7, I will not receive all of the texts, but as soon as I flash back to Synergy, I start receiving the ones I didn't receive before.
Has anyone else seen this or know how to fix it? I would really like to use CM7.
Try ghostly sms in the market

I had the same problem...
I have been having a lot of trouble sending mms on cm7.1
I love cm, but I need full functionality and I'm starting to think it is a deal breaker. Anyone know a fix?
I know that there are plenty of threads talking about mybackup and titanium back but I"ve had an issue with this app. It stops and force closes randomly or if it does restore it deletes all of my current sms and then restores my saved sms in a strange order. I didn't particularly like it.
I'm constantly having people texting with new information. So after I flash a rom I might have new texts right away and I need my old texts as well. The only one that has worked was sms backup and restore (haven't tried the pro version yet) but this one worked great. It didn't delete my new incoming texts, restored my old texts in a nice orgranized way, and didn't crash. But it took over two days! for this to restore my sms and once you click menu or change the screen you can no longer see the progress bar and once you get see that the app force closes
sorry its super long but I need something that can keep all of my new incoming texts (after I flashed the rom) and restore my old sms in a somewhat reasonable time. I know its a lot to ask for (and I"m willing to pay for an app like this) but I just need some recommendations.

You can try MyBackup Pro. I'm not sure if it will overwrite your new messages, so try at your own risk. My best advice would be to just flash a new ROM when you're not expecting to be contacted anymore, like later into the night or something. That's what I do.
Recently hangouts has stopped receiving a lot of my incoming SMS messages. I had been using hangouts for a few months with no problems and after flashing a new ROM I stopped receiving all of my messages. I find that they all seem to come through when I use the stock messaging app, or at least I hope they all come through, and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling hangouts with no luck.
Has anyone else experienced this before?
i had an issue with MMS. i updated my rom then got 30+ messages that i previously missed at once when i booted with the new rom.

Both SMS and MMS work if they manage to come through. I also tried doing a full wipe and then flashing an update to the ROM I'm using which did not fix the problem.
Could the problem be due to having hangouts replace the stock messaging app through the google apps package that I flashed?
This problem seems fairly common on the Nexus 5 forums. Does anyone know of a workaround other than using the stock messaging app?
I've similar problem to, I sent a text message to my gf and the text she gets its different from what I sent

I'm still having this problem. I updated my ROM a while ago and everything seemed to be working perfectly. However, I later tried using hangouts for a video call and got stuck in a continuous call. Upon ending the call by clearing the data for hangouts, I stopped receiving text messages. This was two days ago. I still get texts when I use the default messaging app as my primary SMS app
My phone is an H910 running Oreo (stock; never rooted). I have used the stock Messaging app for SMS/MMS.
I am trying to backup all SMS/MMS and move to a different device so that I can delete them on my H910 to save space. There are about 1,200 messages to move. Ideally, I would like to be able to save all sent/received messages and open them in a messaging app on a different non-LG device. (I would like to open them via a messaging app installed to BlueStacks. My preference would be to save them to my email; I previously used SMS Backup+ with great success, but that has not worked for years now it seems, so I am not counting on a solution like that.)
The problem I am running into is that I cannot seem to save my sent messages. In other words, I can see all of my received messages when viewing them on the new device, but none of the messages I have sent.
I have tried switching to new messaging apps such as Google Messages and Textra on the H910. However, this only shows my received messages (no sent messages).
I have also tried using a backup/restore app such as SMS Backup & Restore, but my sent messages are not backed up that way, either. (I have used a number of different methods to view the file with the backed up messages. The only messages shown are received messages.)
Does anyone have any recommendation for how to solve this? Why can't I backup/save my sent messages?

SMS Backup & Restore works for me on Android 8 (US996).
A search came up with this:
https://community.t-mobile.com/accounts-services-4/not-able-to-backup-sent-text-messages-12778
where RCS messages are the problem, are you using RCS?

Thank you for your response.
Yes, that appears to be the problem. The H910 is AT&T-branded, and I am using it on AT&T. It automatically comes with "advanced messaging" (aka RCS) enabled. So, that is the problem... that is why SMS Backup & Restore will not work. (It looks like SMS Backup & Restore might work with RCS if I had been using Google Messages from the start. Unfortunately, that was not the case.)
I am now wondering if I can get another V20/other capable device with a better messaging app installed prior to the process and then use AT&T's Mobile Transfer to move everything over and back. I may pursue this.
If anyone has a better method of backing up SMS/MMS/RCS messages, please let me know. Otherwise, I guess the moral of the story is to always use a third-party messaging app that allows for backup of RCS or stores the messages via cloud/alternative means that you can actually access.
This might be a solution:

Thank you. I actually was attempting to use that last night. It seems that using this allows you to backup all messages (SMS/MMS/RCS) to AT&T's cloud, but you can then only access them via AT&T's messaging app. There does not appear to be a way to export them from that app to a different device. So, it is great if you just want to view the messages on a different device... but not so great if you actually want to move the messages from one device to another.
