ROM with best 4g upload speeds - Epic 4G General

The stock ROM caps off at a 150kb upload. That sucks. Anyone wanna run a speedtest and post results depending on ROM? Looking for a ROM with uncapped 4g upload basically.

Is that 150k bits per sec or Bytes per sec? The system (Clear network) should cap Sprint customers at about 1M bps ~= 125k Bps upload speeds regardless of device type or ROM, and the most I've got regardless of ROM is 1175k bps ~= 147k Bps.

Please post questions in General section.

Yea its 150kB/s upload. So it doesnt matter eh? I figured it could differ from rom to rom. Oh well case closed.

It probably would matter if there wasn't an upload cap placed on it ...

SGH-I897 Source Code is Available

Samsung has released the Source code for the Captivate.
To download directly from their site follow the below link. Look for Model number SGH-I897.
http://opensource.samsung.com/
* This link contains the drivers that weren't included in the original release.
* The D/L speeds are all over the place so it might take a while to download.
* There appears to be some garbage at the end of the gz file but I was still able to mount the gz file and extract the tar files.
---------------------------------------------------
If you plan to build the kernel you will need Sourcery G++
The Lite version is free.
http://www.codesourcery.com/sgpp/lite/arm/portal/release1033
----------------------
I've verified that the kernel can be compiled using the Source Code and CodeSourcery G++ lite.
*NOTE: If you compile straight from the provided source, there are know issues with garbled mic and wake-up lag.
- The mic issue has been reportedly resolved by using the source code from "sound/soc/codecs" folder of the Vibrant source tree.
- No Update on the wake lag issue.
-------
08-23-2010
The wakeup-lag has been reportedly fixed if you compile the kernel with a different toolchain.
Here is the thread discussing the alt toolchain.

Here is the thread to Unhelpful's kernel, it has instructions on how to build using the alt toolchain.

I did a speed test to S. Korea and it pegged at 3Mb/s, when I tried a tracert to the opensource server, it started timing out around the 8th hop.
maybe I should tether to my i897 and download it through 3G!

This is good news. I wonder how much and what code they withheld because its proprietary. What was the concensus on that in the international source code release?
As someone who is waiting for the Sprint Epic (or possibly getting an EVO), I'll be watching closely now to see if this has the encrypted drivers that are useless for ROM development.
I'd really like to see all GPS and stalling issues resolved before I consider the EPIC.
Getting about 700kbps. Uploading it to my server now. 6 minutes and I will post a mirror.
Well here you go, on my private server. Tell me what kinda speeds you get. I was always curious.

What's so great about Froyo??? IYO

Is it just me, maybe I missed something, .. been anxiously awaiting 2.2, flashed it today, what are the pros? No wifi tether, capped fps, no UI enhancements (that I noticed). Anyone wanna tell me they are lovin it, and why? Maybe I was expecting too much.

and how about making your phone 3 to 5 times faster!!!

It's much faster for one and more refined than earlier builds. That last past is much more apparent in aosp builds then with sense. And there is WiFi tether. You just have to use the latest apk. And just an FYI, prepare to ne flamed by someone. This type of post belongs in q&a.

so WiFi Tethering is working on your ROM? if so that is great to hear.
I going to go read your thread and try to get some confirmation of this.
You really really can tell the phone is less sluggish. Video-taking is much improved because of this. The speed of which i can snap photos of funny **** my kids are doing is so important to me. They can be doing funny things for half a second and can't stand any lag.
The signal seems improved to me in my area with the new radio flash. so thats good
The phone is just loads better at what it is supposed to do.

I just flashed BakedSnack's rom (Thank you kind sir) and it's scary fast. 47 MFLOPS compared to 7 on 2.1. I just tested the wifi-tethering and it worked seamlessly. I also don't have the FPS capped situation. I'm averaging around 50 at the moment.

does anyone know if it possible to uncap the dat throttle gov for htc hero cdma?

is it possible to remove the data gov from htc hero cdma? i have a rooted hero running aospCmod latest release 2/18/11

just wondering about the data cap. a friend just removed the cap on a samsung epic and it made curious if it was possible for the hero. not to worried as im recieving an aria in march due to alltel being bought by AT&T but interested

We got a cap on our phones? Didn't know they can throttle us like that. Maybe that's why I got slow speeds all of a sudden.
This is the first I've heard of a data cap as well, care to elaborate?

well.. I wasn't aware of a cap.. people have used apps like set cpu to overclock their devices, like me, I know that with the current build of aosp there is a thing that allocates a certain amount of RAM to your sc card, but I'd wait til they perfect it as people have been having problems with it, but if you wish to try, make sure you have about a class 6 sd card, sounds like you wouldn't want a slower card than that. I've also read about the compcache RAM usage setting in the performance settings in cmod settings, but am reluctant to use it as there wasn't much information and I'm a relatively cautious person when it comes to this stuff.

Data speeds on CM7 vs MIUI

last week, i signed up with tmobile (formerly with cincinnati bell) at which time i was running miui. i run a speed test to see how awesome tmo's 4g is and get about 3mb download speed. standing in the same spot testing a sgs2 i get about 7 mb. tmobile guy looks at me and says it prolly has something to do with miui.
wanting to verify if in fact miui somehow is messing with my data speeds, i try every radio we have available...no dice (still slow). so i flash cm7 and i start getting speeds in the ~6 mb's range with every radio.
question is why? cm7 is ok, but i prefer miui more, so is there something i can do to get better speeds? is it a kernel thing? a miui thing? help!

I don't have a magic solution, but I can concur with what you experienced on MIUI. My download speeds on both cell data and WiFi on the last build I ran (1.12.30 I think) were AWFUL. It would take an hour to download a 180MB ROM over WiFi, whereas it would just take a few minutes on my laptop on the same network. I recently switched to Sense 3.5 and now my WiFI speeds are essentially identical to the laptop. It's probably a kernel thing, but whatever it is, it seems to be a problem unique to MIUI.

I always thought this was just a signal problem, I loved the miui rom, and never really questioned my slow download speeds! But now that you mention it, I did get pretty slow speeds on miui, and things download much faster on my new rom! I haven't come across a fix for it anywhere though.

Okay, I am pretty sure now that there are data issues with the MR4 build...
After BrickCity was released, I had issues with the phone saying I was connected at 1X and not LTE. I tried both the MR4 leak radio AND THE 605.9 release radio AND combinations of the two; the results were the same each time. I first used SpeedTest.Net, then I went directly through the SpeakEasy.Net website, in both cases the DL speed was always south of 0.5MB and the UL speeds were generally between 1.5 and 2.0 MB. This is compared directly with running a different Sense 3.0 ROM, based based on the 605.9 release with the same radio combination AND from the same location.
When Nino was released, I jumped on it, thinking that the build prop and kernel changes would have resolved the issue.
As an additional check, I tried to watch the NFL mobile video while showing a full 4G LTE signal, and the app produced an error indicating I was on a 1X signal and the video could not be streamed.
I liked this ROM enough to donate to the DEV, so don't think this is just me being a hater. This ROM is a true work of art. It is smooth and looks phenomenal!
If you sort out the data issues, this would hands down be the best ROM out there, bar none!
Thanks for all your time and hard work.

+ 1. In fact, though I am not running NINO, this ROM is awesome! I didn't have a single FC in the roughly 12 hours I was testing it!
Also, to answer a previous question about kernels,... I used both the stock kernel and Imoseyon's 6.1 kernel. Data rates were not noticeably different, still at about 0.3 MB down.
This rom is working excellent for me. I'm completely stock and have not experienced a single force close. Data speeds are fine with stock kernel. Check your speeds with the xfinity speed test website online. Thank you R3Ds for another winner.
