Does Froyo wildfire unbranded update work on debranded phones? - Wildfire General

The Legend update for unbranded handsets did not work on debranded handsets.
Anyone know if this is also true of the Wildfire Froyo update?

i've debranded my vodafone WF in august and got 2 updates via OTA, working fine, while using goldcard "all day" (its in the phone)
but today, there is NO Froyo for me in OTA, could it be, cuz i'm using a debranded phone?
where is the official unleaked by HTC uploaded RUU? shipped romz is empty, no 2.2 yet.

So flash older RUU and then check for 2.2 OTA.
I think I will do the same in the evening if I see any improvements on my girl's WF after OTA update.

I rooted, but then unrooted. Will I be able to get the update still?

I rooted my phone a while back using the Unlockr guide, but decided I just wanted to go back to unrooted for whatever reason.
I doubt I'm able to get any updates OTA now, though. Is there a way to get my Legend back to just vanilla stock, as if it were delivered to me straight from HTC themselves?
Thanks,
Steve
Whether or not you are able to get OTA updates depends on the ROM you are running. If you check for OTA updates through ROM Manager on a stock ROM it will tell you the ROM doesn't support OTA for example (in most cases).
Going back to a stock ROM is easy. Get a hold of one and just run the RUU with your device connected to USB and everything will go smooth.
Hmm... just tried the RUU.
I kept getting a USB 171 error :-(
Ah, okay, managed to flash the 1.31.405.5 ROM from the RUU... but why can't my phone see any updates to the 2.03 ROM version, at least? :-\

There is no available OTA update path from 1.31.405.5. You could just flash the 2.03.405.3 WWE RUU from here...
Oh, really?
Why's that then :-\
Anyway, RUU'd to 2.03. Everything is fine again
Thanks

I believe HTC pulled the original OTA update from 1.31.405.5 to 2.05.405.2 as it caused numerous problems... This was before I had a Legend, but there is currently no way to get to 2.05.405.2 at all - so they must have pulled it for a reason! Not sure when the 2.03.405.3 RUU was made available, but I'm also running that one - no idea why there is no OTA for it
Really not sure which WWE ROMS are going to get OTA updates at this point - many people never got an OTA update from 1.31.405.5 because they didn't release 2.05.405.2 everywhere. So we've got many unbranded users all over the world - some are on 1.31.405.5, some on 2.03.405.3 and some on 2.05.405.2

Is it safe to Update?

Is it safe and good to update htc wildfire from 2.1 to 2.2 (Settings - About - Software Update) if HTC is unlocked and not rooted?
I have heard that flash player (after update) is making some kind of problems is that true and should I Update my htc to 2.2 even it's unlocked to my network.?
I would like to know in short, if I do update will my HTC be locked again? And, can I, after Update "root" it using "unrevoked" ?
p.s. I don't have any backups made and don't know how to make them.
Thank you very much!

The wildfire doesn't support flash, simple.
No you won't be able to root after you install the official ota froyo, because htc updated the hboot, and unrevoked hasn't been updated yet.
No flash? How i watch youtube and etc?? What now to root or update? After update is my phone still unlocked???

I don't understand you. I have mentioned Youtube only because of flash support. I can watch & use flash with my Wildfire.
All I need to know is:
1.Can I update my Wildfire if it's unlocked (will it lock again) after update to 2.2 Android?
2.Can I root my Wildfire after update to 2.2?
Thank you
1: It should'nt. But, really, I have no idea here. AFAIK, You will not be able to update OTA if you are rooted and unlocked.
2: No. There's no way to currently root OTA 2.2 from HTC.

Ok. And 3rd question would be: Do I really need to update or should I stay with Android 2.1.?
If yes (need to update) can I and how backup my current system - if something like that is even possible - and restore again if needed?

HTC wildfire update after root

Hi All,
I have done some reading but I'm still unsure about this.
I have a HTC wildfire with 2.1 update1 firmware, still Vodafone branded. I rooted it some time ago but in all honestly have not seen any benefit bar being able to install a wireless hotspot app that I couldn't get to work.
I would like to update to the 2.2 version but I'm aware I cannot use a OTA update. What's the best way to go about installing 2.2 or is there a better cook out there that improves speed?
Thanks for any advice offered and sorry its such a silly question
check out Warriorvibhu's SUnAaBh v1.1
it is a very stable Froyo 2.2.1 build with Sense UI
Is there any way to unroot (change back to HTC default bootloader) and upgrade the offical update HTC 2.2?

not good idea. more than half of mine applications which required root now not working on my wildfire. That's why i'm waiting Hboot to be cracked by unrevoked. If i knew that i better use PuzzleRom custom 2.2.1 with root.

How to get OTA updates?

It seems like plenty of people have updated their DHD but mine is still stuck on 2.2 only. It was a branded handset and flashed it with a HTC stock rom 2.2
S-Off, ENG Off and rooted.
Would I get OTA updates or I have to deactivate any of the above to get updates?
Thanks

You will get updates, but HTC officially put the update offline for unbranded devices due bugs.
Branded devices will probably have been updated, but those (branded) updates still have bugs. So it's not recommended to get the official 1.72/1.75 update.
Also, if there's an update and you update your device, you'll lose your S-OFF, ENG OFF & Root!
If you really want to have the latest version/update, you probably want to check out the custom roms in "Android developement" section ;-)
Actually radio S-OFF will survive

Cheers guys...just gonna wait and see when update arrives for my phone.

Desire hd showing no update???

Hi all, I've had my desire hd for about 3 weeks, the other day I went to update the software in it but when it checks for it, it says no software update available and that my phone is up to date, I am currently on 1.39??? Is this correct? Or is there a next update for my phone? If there is how do I get it?? Or is there a problem with my phone?? Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated, also I'm in the u.k as well, ok thanks everyone

You got a network branded phone?
You can root and install a custom rom anyway, this will offer you the most up to date roms anyway.
Yeah mate its Vodafone branded, in all fairness every other phone I've owned I have either flashed, jailbroken, or rooted and to be honest I just wanted to steer clear of that and just stick with stock firmware, I'm really happy with my stock dhd but obviously if an update is available that's gonna improve it, then I'll do it, but I'm checking for updates but nothing is happening :-( I was just wondering if I should either be patient or send my phone for repair or even if there is an update available at all???

If you root, S-OFF, Radio S-OFF and then flash a Generic 1.32 WWE HTC RUU then you can follow the update to the latest HTC firmware.
Your DHD will then have the latest firmware and receive any future updates weeks if not months before they get pushed to you by your carrier/network.

I have a stock DHD, unbranded and on 1.32. No updates here...
Just an FYI post this, but I am also wondering if something is up based on what you just said.
The latest official HTC base is 1.84.61.2
You should try *#*#2432546#*#* (checkin).

Right thanks. No joy here still. Is there a way of manually pushing the update and if so will it affect future updates?
Are you rooted, etc...? Have you tried setting your date 1-2 months in advance? This worked for my HTC Hero with the 2.1 update ages ago.
Other than flashing a custom sense based ROM which has the 1.84.61.2 base we just have to wait until the update gets pushed. I would of thought that you would of have had the update, even Vodafone UK are now pushing 1.84.xx.x
reflash the RUU again. Maybe you have uninstalled some system apps.
guys the ota update is currently only for south east asia

anyone with nonbranded europian update can share it? should be in your update folder on your sd. Prolly it is the only file in the update folder on sdcard, should be in ace.1.84.720.3.bla bla convention. btw file is deleted after installation , so copy it to your puter before installing the update.
thx so much
why are u posting on every thread?
