Hi guys,
I've looked in other threads, but there doesn't seem to be any solid answers for myself... I've seen some threads about flashing the Sprint epic to Cricket...
does this apply to other providers such as Bell in Canada?
I bought an epic thinking all cdma network should be compatible... until I got the phone and called Bell to activate the phone, they told me it won't work because the phone is locked to the Sprint provider.
I understand there really isn't an "unlocking" procedure for cdma phones, what can I do? I've spent a great deal of money over shipping and tax.
Please help me out,
Kevin

Hey everyone, I've been lurking for a bit now and have learned a heap about my phone.
Well, I had a sprint contract which has ran out and currently have the Sprint Touch Vogue without service.
I work on a military base which used to have Sprint towers but have since changed to Verizon. Naturally I would like to do the same since no other carriers provide any good signal out here.
My question is, do I need to flash to a Verizon ROM? If so where can I find just the basic ROM which will still allow use of the internal GPS, and any data connection I may need.
I checked the ESN on their website and it says its not available.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, it sux having no signal out here at all....
if i were you id switch to verizon... they have pretty good service all around.. you should be able to take your vouge over to verizon with no problem. Technical support can do it for you over the phone, they said that the can activate certain sprint phones, verizon can activate sprint phones that verizon currently has or has sold before.
Take a look at codybear's faq on flashing the Vogue. You can flash to Veruzon but you may have a problem getting them to add the esn to their network. Here is that faq:

HI there, first, thanks everyone for sharing such great info about the galaxy tab.
I got some quick questions here, did search before posting but did not find so sorry if it's been asked already.
I'm looking to get a US tab and was wondering which US carrier tab is most suited to be used on Bell's network?
Also, I've seen a lot of tabs with bad ESN going for great price on eBay... if I get one from US and try to use it here in Canada on Bell's network...will they work fine?
Cheers!

ATT is the ONLY US provider compatible with Bell 3G, don't buy a Tab from anyone except ATT, Bell or Rogers. The Bell Tab is 550$ right now off contract, pretty sweet deal.

This man speaks the truth. ATT is the only carrier that's completely compatible with Canadian carriers (with some minor 900/850 MHZ band bickering) Tmobile uses AWS (Of which the Canadian equivalent is Wind Mobile) and Sprint/Verizon are both using the archaic CDMA system.
Oddly enough both Telus & Bell were on CDMA (and *technically* still support it, but that's a serious grey area) up until a year ago. Rogers has been GSM for a good while now.

Thanks to both of you for the replies !!!
Finally got mine from Future Shop @ $549.99...had a $250 gift card so this was a real bargain !!!

Hi there,
Sorry if this is a super newb question but I am interested in buying an Evo and using it on AT&T network. Is this possible? If so, difficult? Are there serious drawbacks to doing this? I would appreciate any input.
Just get an Inspire 4G
No, it's not possible.
I would think not, since AT&T uses a SIM card, and to my knowledge, the EVO is only on sprint, which uses CDMA technology.
Cant happen. They have some decent phones coming out soon, I'd just wait.
Sprint uses esn locks so even if you have a cdma phone (such as from Verizon) you cannot move it to Sprint.
At&t uses GSM, like T-Mobile.
Thanks for all your input guys. That does change things. I was considering the inspire but really wanted a front facing camera to speak to relatives over seas on skype which should be coming out for android soon I hear. I am now considering the Motorola Atrix (due out tomorrow). It seems to have everything I am looking for. What do you guys think about it?
Get the atrix if your att
^^Agreed^^
Or you just could bite the bullet and get sprint like we all did....Buy your fone outright from craigslist or something and go month to month.
Hey gang,
I'm not as tech savvy as I used to be. Long story short, my fiancee and I got "baited and switched" into switching to Sprint (from ATT and Tmo, respectively). As it turns out, we get NO reception almost ANYWHERE around our home. My dB is normally 105-120 at home, and I use my cell as my business phone. It's cost me a lot of money.
I've tried fruitlessly to get the devices returned, but they just soak up time and give us the run-around. I'm very close to trying to sue for breech of contract or similar, not having the services we were told we would have.
Anyway...I know Sprint is CDMA. Is this S5 a tri-band phone? In other words, can I pop a Tmo SIM into it and use it with a prepaid Tmo SIM, assuming I root and rom?
Here's the info on the model and frequencies...

Someone please help. I'm being forced to buy a SIM from another carrier and carry around 2 phones, just so I always have one that works.
Thanks in advance.
I have been doing research and searching these forums for a few days now, I'm trying to not be one of those people who ask questions that have been answered. But at this point I'm at the end of the road.
I bought a Sprint Galaxy S4, model SPH-L720.
I unlocked it using this method Sprint Galaxy S IV SPH-L720 SIM Unlock Method
Reverted back to MDC baseband and all that good stuff, just as instructed. It seemed to have went well without a hitch.
My question now is:
I want to buy one of these Verizon 4G Sim Activation Kits from walmart
Is it possible that I can buy one of those, insert the SIM into my unlocked Sprint S4, and have a working phone? I ask because I don't want to drop $50 if it doesn't have a chance of working. The instructions for this say that it will work with a VERIZON S4, but since my SPRINT S4 is unlocked, should that be okay?
I don't know much, but in my reading I found that Sprint and Verizon both use CDMA, not GSM. So I figured I had a better chance of this phone working if I go with Verizon because of this.
I am in the United States.
If you need any other information or screen shots please let me know, thank you for taking the time to help me out!!
EDIT: would it be possible to test it out, if one of my friends has a verizon phone under contract, and I took their SIM and inserted it into my phone?
Try it.
Like the guy above me said. Try it. One way to find out. Personally I don't think it would work. As the whole point of unlocking the sprint Gs4 is to use it on GSM networks. From what I know you have to flash the sprint phone to Verizon. Plus you WONT get LTE on Verizon because the bands are not supported. So you'll only get 3g.

thank you for the info! i'm just learning about all of this, so i don't have a firm grip on everything yet.
in the tutorial i used and linked above, the file I used with Odin was actually titled "S4 Flasher", so I believe I unlocked it and flashed it with this? Again, Im sorry, Ive tried searching and am just looking for verification if Im correct.
I'm not worried about LTE, 3G is fine really. Also, I'm not set on Verizon, I just want my phone to work, doesn't matter what network I'm using. If it would be "safer" or a better bet to get into a GSM prepaid, I will do that instead. I was just under the assumption (incorrectly probably lol) that since sprint is CDMA, that going to another CDMA carrier would be easier.
Cricket, Net10, StraightTalk, and AT&T etc are all available at the store I think if I go GSM
Again thanks for taking the time to help everyone!

I unlocked my sprint GS4 and went to Cricket. And I've been happier than when i was with Sprint (service wise). I have signal in 98% of the places I go to. Which is a HUGE improvement over sprint. And even though this phone only connects to HSPA+ which is capped at 3.5 Mbps its plenty fast for all my daily activities. So I recommend a GSM prepaid.
