[FIX] New Market on Cyanogen 6.1 based builds - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

This is for those of you who are currently running cyanogenMOD 6.1 or higher based builds who want to update your market to the latest version with the enhanced UI.
I'm not sure if this has been listed before, i did a search and found nothing, so here it is.
Steps;
1. Download the APK (located below)
2. Locate file using ROOT explorer and copy it
3. Browse to root/system/app & paste the file.
4. Do a full reboot (no hot reboot for users who have the option)
---
Using ADB
Steps;
1. Download the APK (located below)
2. Copy the file into your Android SDK tools folder
3. Push the file with the following commands;
- ADB remount
- ADB push vending.apk /system/app/vending.apk
4. Do a full reboot.
---
Using Terminal
Steps;
1. Download the APK (located below)
2. Copy the file into your SDcard ROOT FOLDER
3. move the file with the following commands;
- SU
- mv /sdcard/vending.apk /system/app/vending.apk
4. Do a full reboot.
Note; I'm running off of memory for the commands for ADB and Terminal, please feel free to correct me if any of these are off.

I still get FC. I've tried several different versions and nothing has worked. Build is HD2ONE 0.3.5.
Update: Just tried one last thing.. created a "root/system/app" directory in the HD2ONE folder and copied it there. Still didn't work so I cleared the market data and cache and tried again. It started and it actually loaded the apps and then immediately FC'd. Ugh so close.

You jinxed me! LOL I am running JDMS rom and just did the vending file to /system/app folder, and it worked for over 1 hr ++ then after a reboot now it FC each time.
SO after looking into it for a while, the reason why it FC is because its signed different than the other Gapps IE, Google framework apk, and others. What we need is the same Gapps that are all signed the same. Once we have those, it should work 100%, i'm going to start testing it with latest updates from the gingerbread release (which i'm assuming has the same signatures)

Doesn't work for me on the latest HD2ONE build either. I know once they get it to work, the developer for hd2one will add it or offer it.

All-In-One Auto-Root Script

I made this for all the people that seem to be having issues with rooting their phone, installing the recovery partition, and installing the new rom.
This is an all-in-one package. It's about 200MB. Includes the original root rom, recovery image, the new rom (2.1OTA rom that was just released today), as well as a few extras. It's a batch script to automate the entire process.
Here's the README file:
Code:
These are automated scripts to root your Eris phone with Android 1.5 (NOT 2.1 LEAK!!!!!)
YOU NEED THE ANDROID SDK IN ORDER FOR THIS TO WORK!
If you don't have the SDK working, visit guide on the forums for instructions.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Unzip this file to your \tools\ directory of your Android SDK. Then run one of the following files:
install_root.bat
------------------------
This script will do the following:
1) Install the root image onto your phone
2) Install the recovery partition onto your phone
3) Install the current rom using the recovery partition
install_extras.bat
------------------------
This script will do the following:
1) Install live wallpapers
2) Install the Nexus Launcher
3) Install the Nexus photo gallery
4) Remove HTC Lockscreen
5) Install wireless tethering
NOTE!
------------------------
1) NOT ALL LIVE WALLPAPERS YOU FIND IN THE MARKET WILL WORK!
2) You cannot use the Nexus photo gallery when in the Nexus Launcher, it will crash
These scripts were put together by GrdLock.
Credit for all of the included files goes to ivan, amon, jcase, and everyone else
who chipped in!
Install this by unzipping it into your \tools\ directory of your Android SDK, then run install_root.bat.
I'm not running Windows so I didn't test this, but I proof read it like 10 times, and I'm 99.99% sure it should work 100%. If anyone gets any errors using it, post and I'll fix them immediately. Make sure USB debugging is turned on before running it.
You can download the whole package here: http://www.multiupload.com/Y7UC8UU2JE
-------------------------------------------------------------------
If you just want the 2.1OTA rooted rom, you can download that here: http://www.multiupload.com/YP1BIUOF60 (this rom includes busybox, the otacert fix, and a few other minor things)
I also put together an update. This will update you to the new 2.1 OTA leak "official" without wiping. Wipe your dalvik and that's it. Do a nand backup first though just incase! http://www.multiupload.com/3OPZCD6NRA

Yes, I built the otacert fix into the rom.
Thanks for all your work grid, and all the others that have worked on this. Just got a new refurb the other day and was going to tackle rooting this weekend, gonna make the task so much easier.
Can you please explain what was fixed? Thanks again for your work.
The current rom is a rooted rom using the new 2.1 leak that was just released today, which is SUPPOSEDLY the "official" 2.1 update from Verizon.
What setting should be used for the phone, HTC Sync, USB, Mount SD, or nothing?
Nothing. Just connect it to your USB, and enable USB debugging. Don't mount your sdcard.
Does the market work now?
(I recall hearing that the market wouldn't work because of the test/dev certificate that was in the leaked rom)
The market will work if it doesnt work now, itll work when the OTA comes out.
Grd, this looks fantastic. I've been patient so far, and haven't upgraded to the leaked or original rooted 2.1 builds, but with the news of the latest one (and initial reports saying that it's mostly bug-free), I'm ready to take the plunge. This should be a huge help to me.
A couple of questions:
Does the big package (the 200MB one) include jcase's ROM (bare-bones basic), or yours with the tweaks? I ask because you mentioned removing pdfviewer, which I use.
Also, has anyone else gone through this process yet? Call me timid, but I'm not too keen on being the first one.

It includes my rom. You should be able to restore pdfviewer if you need it though. I can post the files in a bit.
Great. I was pretty sure that the apps could be reinstalled if needed, but wanted to confirm. I'm downloading the package now, so I'll keep you updated. I'm pretty excited about this, since I'm still at stock 1.5.
Issues, Well first It copied the PB image fine, it didnt reboot the phone i had to manually do it with vol -, now im on step two installing amons image, it transfers but it cant start files\flash_image, no such file or directory and then it cant chmod it cause its not there.
Could you copy/paste the command prompt text you're seeing? (you gotta right-click the cmd window and select Mark)
Installing Amon's Recovery Image.

Your phone will now reboot and test the recovery partition.

Ahh, crap...

Download that file, put it in the \tools\files\ directory, then try again and let me know.
I think I got delete-happy removing some temp files and deleted flash_image by accident.
Worked great
I just went through the install.bat file and everything worked 100% just as promised. I have not installed any of the extras yet. Thanks for the great work!
flash_image was it worked a treat its in amon_ra now was trying manually and came across it missing, went to post it and you had just now
One suggestion before letting adb copy the 2.1 rooted img to the phone have it delete the PB so users dont accidently click on it. Just a lil cleanup to help things out. So far its flashing 2.1 rooted I will let you know about the first error, ill go back through it again and get it to recreate.

Android Commander.

I just want to give props to a program for windows called Android Commander. I am not sure if its been mentioned on the Vibrant forum yet, but it got me out of a major jam today.
Android Commander is basically ADB with an easy to use interface. It lets you pull and push files to and from your pc to your Android device.
Story:
I tried to MM the Androdena theme but it seems the framework was corrupted and caused me to keep me in a forceclose loop not letting mount or boot or really do anything. I did make a nandroid backup but some how deleted the CW update zip from my sd at an earlier date and could only boot up into the stock recovery. I was ok with having to reflash the stock rom using Odin, but needed some important pictures that I took for work. Needless to say I starting freaking out. I have ADB set up but only know a few basic commands and I'm sure what I needed to be done could have been done from there. I started searching for solutions on Google and found this awesome program.
I was first able to move the picture folder from my sd card to my pc, then move and rename the CW update.zip to root of the sd card in turn letting me boot into CW recovery and restoring my nandroid.
The only thing I needed to do was to make sure my device was online through ADB and Android Commander was able to find the device and show me all my files and such. Its a great program, and I highly recommend it if you are not familiar with ADB.
I will need to check this out when I get home. I want an easy way to remove the bloatware on my phone.
it seems like an interesting program, and would be good, but for me it doesn't show that i have root. it tells me "root no" and when i use the console in it and use the su command it tells me no. but still a good program over all, i did some looking around and i believe it will only show you have root access if you have an APP2SD installed. i might be wrong with that, but atleast if anyone else has the same trouble with it please let me know if you figure a work around.
ps, you can view root files and folders just not push or pull anything from them.
Yep, I am seeing the same thing.
I did some research on Google and this is what I came up with:
"adb remount and adb root are protected commands and need either a rooted kernel or a flashed recovery model to run" - Source: Rastaman-FB
ah I see. That's good to know. I guess ill be sticking with just the normal ADB. But I think the program will still be very useful for other stuff considering we don't have to mount the USB so no rescan media after the unmount. That alone is a keeper for me. Thanks again for the information pal.

I must say
I have been using android commander since his 1st beta on all my android rooted phone..
It is the best android tool Out there.
Im usually private about the tools I use but
Android Commander (By PanPiotr) is the best and easiest adb GUI tools out there.
Features
Explore files:
- copy multiple files/dirs between Phone and PC
- copy multiple files/dirs between Phone folders
- delete multiple files/dirs from Phone
- new dir and rename options
- drag&drop multiple files/dirs in to progrm
- drag&drop files/dirs between program tabs
- partitions size info
- bookmarks
Manage apps:
- windows integration
- backup multiple apps to any dir on Phone/PC
- batch/single apps install
- install as private
- update
- batch/single uinstall apps
- uninstall with option to keep data or not
Console:
- type any shell command
- run sh script from PC
and more…
- flashing zip and img files
- options to reboot, reboot to recovery, reboot to bootloader, power off phone
- screenshots (beta)
Stupid question. I accidently deleted my update.zip file and I attempted to reflash another rom. Of course now I'm stuck at the Vibrant Logo and tried to use this app. It says its trying to connect, but never does. I have SDK installed, but I think its the version from when I was tinkering with the G1.
I got into Download mode with the BIG yellow triangle, but my PC never seems to show anything connected via USB unless I try connecting via Recovery.
This app sounded like something would help me since I'm not very good at ADB, but I guess I'm having issues getting over the first hurtle is seems. LOL

I'd say it's ok at best. I don't know of any other ADB GUI tools but this one doesn't work well with my Vibrant.

I'm going to have to agree with this. Is nice to have but doesn't play nice with the vibrant.

It sometimes is very slow in reading internal sd memory on samsung vibrant and it loads up as a blank screen. Disconnecting usb cable and refreshing does the trick for me.

DI18 - EC05 Update - Stock App Restore Procedure for Rooted Phones

So I received the OTA Update for my Samsung EPIC 4G stock build Eclair DI18.
Unfortunately it did not install due to missing packages.
I was rooted.
I was not running any custom roms,
I did use the SDX Stock App Remover to remove "nascar",
I have seen other people having problems because they are missing the "Asphalt Demo" apk.
Unfortunately if you remove Nascar or Asphalt you will get that error message when you try to install the OTA EC05 update, as well as if you try the manual method of upgrading by copying the update.zip. This happens because the installer is trying to verify packages for the upgrade (which you no longer have).
I went nuts considering all the different methods I could take to apply this update. I wanted the quickest and easiest method, and one that would leave my data intact.
So if this matches your situation, you don't have to reflash back to stock DI18 to recover a couple of missing stock apps and you don't need Odin or the 255 mb tar ROM that's out there (SPH-D700-DI18-8Gb-REL.tar.md5) etc. with this method.
So here is the method I used to restore my Stock Sprint apps so I could get the installer to run.
Before you start, make sure you know which packages you need to restore back to your /system/app folder. (unfortunately, their is no way of knowing which package(s) you're missing if you don't remember what you removed. You could cross reference what you have with someone who has all the stock apps OR the easiest way is to try to apply the update and write down or remember which apk it is complaining about. Chances are you already know which APK you're missing and that's why you're here. If you removed multiple stock apps, then you might have already guessed that you are going to have to restore each apk one by one, and so you may need to go through this process more than once to discover exactly which apk files are missing.)
These instructions also assume that you've already copied the DI18-EC05 update.zip file found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005593 to your sdcard.
Download the stock Sprint apk packages from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987777
The file you are looking for that is linked from that thread is:
http://www.nubecoder.com/files/andro...store_EB13.zip (Even though these are EB13 app's it doesn't matter that you're on DI18, we just need the file to be there so we can trick the installer into running.)
Unzip this file and copy the apk's you need to your sdcard by first mounting your android phone in mass storage mode (usb debugging disabled). After you have copied the apk's to your sdcard, you will need to remount your system folder and copy the apks to that /system/apps location for the update installer to recognize it (simply installing the app to your phone won't cut it).
To continue you will need the Samsung drivers ( I am not providing links because this can be found anywhere on the web. My particular Samsung driver archive is called "usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip" (reboot your system after installing if necessary).
You will also need the "one click root" zip archive (or any other package that can give you access to the adb shell.) I used the adb shell from the "epic aio one click root" file archive "epic.aio.v1.13.zip".
Enable USB Debugging mode in your phone, and then plug your phone into usb.
Follow the instructions below to remount your /system partition as rw so that you can copy back (to /system/app) the missing apk packages that you've already copied to your sdcard.
Navigate to the location where your adb executable is installed:
1. cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools> adb shell
2. $ su
3. # mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
4. # cd /system/app
5. # ls (make sure it is mounted)
6. # cd /sdcard
7. # ls *.apk (show the apk package filenames)
8. # cp "apkfilename" /system/app (copy from current working directory [/sdcard] to /system/apps)
On step 8, replace "apkfilename" with apk's you want to copy. Repeat process as many times as necessary to copy back all the default apk's that you removed.
Taken partially from http://androidforums.com/2079717-post6.html
After you have copied all of your stock apk's back, simply unplug your phone, and reboot. Once you have rebooted press and hold volume down, power and camera buttons until the recovery menu pops back up, then simply select install update.zip
This time the installer will not error out on missing packages.
If you want to root your phone after installing the EC05 Stock Update:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/epi...optional-ext4-new-updated-2-a.html#post760733
For those who only need the stock epic asphalt demo here it is.
(Note to mods, this is a 5 minute demo only, not a full game. As such I believe it is ok to post.)
I was looking inside the run.bat file and I used a run.bat file that did not remove asphalt5.apk and freeHDGamesDemo.apk.
Now I don't know if you need the freeHDGamesDemo.apk or where to find it.
I was going to reinstall the asphalt5.apk, but do I erase the /sdcard/gameloft/ folder and if I do will it be recreated again or should I leave it in?
You can get rid of the gameloft folder on sdcard, thats where it puts the file it downloads when you launch the asphalt demo and it prompts to download. Be careful though, if you have other gameloft games they will also use that folder.
I'm not sure on the free hd demo file, if the ota complains about it we should be able to pull it from the eb13 tar file. If it's not posted by time the ota rolls out I'll add it here for ease.

Thanks, I am not a big game player so the little asphalt5 demo is about all I need - I never even opened the freeHDDemo file so I don't know what it does, I was only looking for it incase it stopped you from getting any minor updates via OTA's.
I didn't think the Odin EC05 no data loss upgrade version would remove those two apps on Androidcentral.
i did everything but when i went to the system menu to intall the update.zip i dont have that file...
where do i get it from?

[Solved]Hulu for Gingerbread?

Hey guys,
So I noticed my flash_installer_signed_v3 zip I've been using (for hex edited flash so hulu works) no longer works with any Gingerbread builds. Flashing the zip makes it not boot (could be because of the newer CWM), but usually I was able to modify the libflashplayer.so in /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/libs (or something like that) and boom I was good.
After some research it seems that Gingerbread extracts those files from the flash apk to the /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/libs/ on boot, so the hack doesn't stick upon reboot. In the same threads I saw people had posted modified APKs to install, which resolves this issue, because the hex edited flash file is embedded into the APK. Problem solved right? no....
The instructions for this method mentions installing the latest flash 10.3.185.24 (version number checks out, from market and their posted files). Then via ADB (I did it from within CWM to be extra safe) you take their com.adobe.flash-1.apk and replace the one in /data/app with the one they posted. When I do this flash is not recognized at all in either Browser or Dolphin. I've also tried (at other's suggestions) simply replacing the built in, preinstalled flash (in the rom, located at /system/app) and renaming their posted file com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk to install_flash_player.apk (as it is called this when it is on the rom instead of data/market installed), still no luck.
Is there anyone out there that's had luck with modified hulu on ANY gingerbread builds? It isn't simply hulu related, as it simply lies about being a desktop machine I'm sure others could use this for HBO, possibly netflix if they have a browser viewer.
EDIT:
SOLUTION: I discovered it was impossible to get any of the built apks to work, and also that the files would be replaced on every reboot. The solution was to edit the init.rc file in root to copy the replacement hacked files on boot as shown below.
First, I downloaded the latest flash version from the market (note, this must match the hacked files you will be copying for it). Next, I took the latest APK posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12433036&postcount=1 (which does contain files for 10.3.185.24, latest market version currently) and using root explorer (I believe, that or astro) opened the hacked apk, and extracted all 4 files from the lib folder into /sdcard/extracted. Next, I created a folder in /data/ called "flash" and put the extracted files in there (4). Next, I edited the file init.rc by adb push/pull (although root explorer should also work) and added the following lines below at the end of the file to copy the hacked files over the legit ones:
#fix flash
cp /data/flash/libflashplayer.so /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/
cp /data/flash/libstagefright_froyo.so /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/
cp /data/flash/libstagefright_honeycomb.so /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/
cp /data/flash/libysshared.so /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/
Note, something I noticed when trying this the first time, You must have busybox installed, preferably from the busybox installer from the market. The reason is android does not have a built-in copy utility (crazy I know). You can double check this via adb console or consolebot/local by typing in cp --help. If it can't find it, you must find the busybox installer in the market and install (I did mine to /system/bin, not sure it matters).
I hope this helps everyone who loves gingerbread and the HUGE performance boost in flash but hates their new DRM enforcement
This is above my head, but I'm excited nonetheless.
UPDATE: Just wanted to let you guys know I believe I've got a working zip all worked out, just waiting on permission from the OP of the lib files I used to reply to me saying it's cool for me to post it (imneveral0ne, posted it in the Thunderbolt forums). With everything that's going down right now figure it's best to get permission first, even if it is just for hex-editing of adobes files
Is there any update on this? Is this still the only method?

Root problems with newer ROMs

Curse these programs that won't use newer su/busybox combinations.
After installing one of the latest blur ROMs, I wasn't able to get webtop2sd to run (a very common problem), nor Cisco's Anyconnect VPN client. webtop2sd did the usual FC, while Anyconnect would complain that it couldn't start a "critical component". Going back to the one I was running before the upgrade didn't help either.
These problems are not unique to the beta, nor this ROM, but here's what I had to do:
Follow the steps in this thread starting in step 6:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21155110&postcount=852.
Total props to dicksteele for the original post. Thought it might be better to put out here since this seems to be a recurring issue on most ROMs now.

6. Install Busybox installer from Market. Ran app installed busybox into /system/bin.
7. Open Root explorer Go to /system/etc mount r/w create webtop2sd directory
8. Go to /system/bin copy busybox over to /system/etc/webtop2sd
9. Still in root explorer, go to /system/bin and /system/xbin and delete su
10. Can't use quick reboot to reboot into recovery because su has been deleted. Wherever your adb is located, run adb reboot recovery.
11. Install the superuser app from the zip I have attached. Reboot.
12. Open some other app besides webtop2sd that needs root. Verify root is working.
13. Install webtop2sd.
14. Open webtop2sd, hopefully no FC's. Do the webtop2sd partitioning and copy webtop over to new partition on sdcard.

Yes, webtop2sd was very picky to the point of needing busybox from the installer, not the identical one installed by the ROM. Once I got webtop2sd running, I tried Anyconnect again and it started right up.
I can understand webtop2SD not working since it hasn't been updated for a long time, but a company like Cisco should be sure their tool, available on the Market, works with the latest superuser/busybox combinations.
I would go so far as to say that if you are having trouble with any programs requiring root access, try the steps above used to get webtop2SD working. Hope this helps others stuck on similar issues with these newer ROMs.
