I'm finding there are aspects of both that I like:
Ex. Launcher Pro's dock bar, icons, and ULTRA smooth scrolling
Ex. ADW Launcher's hidden notification bar, but can be accessed by flicking downwards anywhere on the screen, and flicking the dock bar upwards to reveal more icons hidden below
If there is a way to customize which settings I like from each launcher or if such an app already exists, can someone point me in the right direction?
Never seen such a launcher. You can build your own, Android's open source so...

Hah! I know nothing about programming. It would take me a while to learn on my own. I was hoping something was already in place, but I'm sure someone will figure it out someday.

But no, there is.t an ADW pro yet. But Ander has hinted a lot that he'll release one

If I didn't have so many other "obsessions" that currently keep me occupied, I'd definitely give it a shot, but as it is, unless I can fully commit myself to learning something new, it would be too laborious, and hence not as enjoyable, just for the sake of experimentation. For now, anything I learn about Android and computer programming in general is merely in passing and if I happen to create something from the bits and pieces I'm picking up as I go along, it will be the unintended result of that process.
Let's hope he does! I hear Launcher Pro's going through an overhaul as well so that's pretty exciting!

lol same here, i drained my battery playing with the new animations and all that, i uninstalled launcher pro before even trying the new adw
I just can't use anything or even a build that doesn't have the scrolling wheel at the bottom. It's a must have for me.

This + NAND = nexusS quality experience?
Either way, very nice launcher!
I was hoping there was a demo or a lite version to experience it a little bit... this way I am not sure if I am sold on it - gotta pay $3 to experience - to late for refund then.
we'll see what happens in reviews - so far it looks pretty kewl
Juts download and install applanet, You will get all the latest paid versions for free, This is what I use to "test" programs and if I like them I buy them, If I dont like them or find something wrong with them I bin them.

Hello!
GDE launcher anyone tried? I now use it because I like doing dice table, the animation is spectacular.
looks decent,
features i use the most on launcher pro...
continuous scrolling dock
(dock) swipe up to:
-launch another app (2 actions per icon)
-show 'leap' view
-show notifications
can anyone say if these features are available in this?
many thanks

i believe it has everything except the dock swipe
Do you know where I can suggest the dev some features ?
Most important for me is : set the default screen to the first one not the centre, put the "1-icon dock" on the right or left and not only in the centre, be able to choose the icons background.
Fantastic job for the rest. Super fast...
Edit : can someone confirm me that ADWNotifier works with this ?
Take care if couldn't be refunded after I tried it. I prefer the miui ui

The refund period recently changed to 15 minutes, contrary to the 24h earlier. What kind of person proposed this change, I don't know. This short timespan barely left me with any time to test ADW EX, so I ended up asking a refund because I don't feel like buying a product I'm not sure I like.
In short: it's not the devs fault.
Liking it...
.. but doesnt feel faster to me compared to launcherpro
Yeah sure you can set the homescreen transitions to fly by alot quicker than you can in LP, but overall LP just feels smoother to me.
Apart from that, my currentwidget now hovers between 9-16ma in standby, where my phone was consistant between 6-9ma with LP.

Oh ok thanks. I thought I still had 24h with the older market but i was wrong. 15mn is way too short!

Certainly too short to really try a launcher that looks and acts seemingly like another one. Not enough time to find out any specific nuances that we may like.
In fairness though, I can't see any reason why anyone would change launchers to use this. They all look the same to me, with a few "little" features that hardly make the transition worthwhile.
Not knocking the app itself. Just don't get reinventing the wheel, and then releasing newer versions of it.

Haha nicely worded.
been using LP for about 3 weeks now, love it, however i just got ADW, been using it for like 30 minutes, and extremely loving it.
The one important thing i noticed:
w/ 7 screens in LP fully packed w/ widgets, folder, apps...when you 'pinch' the screen to view the preview screens it stutters. Like it lags the first time you 'pinch' it, after that initial swipe, it is fine. This got really annoying, especially when coming out of sleep mode.
w/ 7 screens in ADW EX fully packed w/ widgets, folder, apps...when you 'pinch' it is still smooth as silk, coming out of sleep mode as well.
I'm still comparing the two for now, i'll keep you all updated
comparing both w/ DS's SupperRam 1.5
I probably wont get any replys to this but its worth a shot i guess. Ive noticed that launcher pro and launcher pro plus (same thing) have extremely slow/laggy 3D app drawers if you enable them. I dont know about most people but i love the look of the 3D app drawer but i cant stand how laggy it is when it opens and closes. Normal scrolling through the apps after its open is blazing fast with no lag at all just when you open or close it you get this lag. Even on a clean rom flash you get this. I have an EVO 4G and have tried launcher pro on multiple other phones with the same outcome. Multiple Roms and all. Now the question is this, i just downloaded this random "Gingerbread Launcher" from the android market that is just your basic gingerbread launcher with a 3D app drawer, this thing is PERFECT not one bit of lag in it at all. I dont understand why the dev of launcher pro can not get his 3D launcher to be smooth like this one. Does anyone know anyway to fix this issue? or a way to maybe compile the 3D launcher from the gingerbread launcher and stick it in the launcherpro apk?

Haven't seen the slightest bit of lag using 3D drawer on my G2 Vision, clocked @ 1.2Ghz, but even at stock speeds (806Mhz) it's still smooth as butter... are you running a sense rom or a "vanilla" rom? If you're on a sense rom and just installed LP+ over top of rosie, that might be your issue... ??? Something is up though... shouldn't act like that on an evo...

Why dont u tell us what launcher you installed so we cam look at it im also gunna test out the 3d app drawel and see if i get any lag.

i usually run cyanogen's latest stable rom for my phone, right now im running his latest nightlie which is cm7 (gingerbread) and i still get a little shakyness and lag. The gingerbread launcher im talking about is the one by Eugene373 in the android market, u can search for gingerbread launcher and its like 4th one down, there is a free and donate version.
also i always remove ADW launcher as well, so the only launcher that is running is launcherpro and nothing else. I have a taskkiller running and have my cpu overclocked as much as it can be so i dont know what the deal is.
One of the main reasons I went back to MIUI from CM7 is the lag on home launchers. I think it's just an issue that needs to be ironed out. Didn't matter if it was launcher pro, adw, or go. Still laggy.
i never had any lag using go launcher, i just recently moved back to LPP because of the recent update with the screen transitions and i noticed he said he recoded the whole app and so i figured things like app drawer laggyness would have been fixed. I dont understand how hard it can be, i mean if he can create an app as great as launcher pro why cant he fix the app drawer shakyness and this random dev can come out with a whole gingerbread style launcher with absolutly NO lag in it at all.
*note*
i am a donater to launcherpro so i can complain
I don't know, I'm using it on a stripped sense rom (virtuous) so I would think my rom would exhibit lag before a CM6/7 build would... it may be hardware (though unlikely) if it is a common problem on evo and not other phones? anyone else with evo experiencing this lag?
Going off topic but the LPP rewrite was not in the last update, the dev mentioned how hard it had been writing a launcher from scratch because no one else has done this (I think). The gingerbread launcher is just pulled from the SDK. I assume even the MIUI launcher is based on the android default launcher.

the lag im getting isnt HORRIBLE lag, most people would probably be ok with it, its just the fact that its slightly shaky and jump on the zoom in and out that just bugs me, i hate any lag/shakyness in my phone at all. Maybe ill try to play around with combining the two idk.
I am in the same boat as OP ... I am using VaelPak 3.1 beta 1 with launcher pro and only GOD knows how bad I hate that lag when you open the 3D drawer ... seems like it open in two steps ... I wish I could find a solution to fix this rather start using other launchers.
Hello everyone, I've looked for many months but I can't find anything that deals with this issue. There is no animation for rotating the screen in default 2.3.3..
Does anyone know how I could achieve this?
I'm looking for a sort of iPhone-Esq turn of the screen, or a fade out and then in type.
If anyone knows of this being done already or would try to do it that would be great!
Thanks
Green

As far as I know the animation on the iPhone is just a screenshot rotating with the real rotation happening in the background.
So as it was not possible to take screenshots on pre Android 2.3 without root/ADB.. I guess it wasn't really possible?
Dunno though. But I think it's possible in some ways with 2.3 and the api to capture the screen now. Just need some dev to give it a try. But I believe best bet would be the team around MIUI.. as they kinda try to imitate the whole iOS..
I've added some kind of rotation animation in my app... search for sgstools on google code and look into AnimatedActivity class.
It's not perfect... it would be better to handle the orientation change on your own.
When I played bejewelled 2 for the first time I was very impressed by the screen rotation animation.. if you haven't played it, try it out .. the rotation animation is very fast and smooth.. this shows that it can be done

@Fr4gg0r
Will your app work on the original Motorolla Droid? I'm rooted and running CM7. Thanks.
The Xoom has this rotation animation. I wonder if anyone could port over what's necessary.
Honestly I can't believe that a dev hasn't tried to create a rotation animation for their custom rom. I would think that people would really be drawn to it, kind of like the gingerbread screen off animation.
Yeah. This is one thing I envy about Iphone and WP7, turning to landscape looks cool instead of just... like appearing.
Its present in honeycomb, so most likely will be present in the next android release? Maybe someone can port it to gingerbread.

I'm also surprised that it can't be found in any of the custom launchers. I've used almost all of them, currently using launcher pro, and I haven't noticed it in any of them.
I think it was in one browser I tried, Netfront Life Browser (I think it was pretty good as well).
adobe reader does the rotation animation too, so it is possibly but it seems nobody cares abou that :S
Great point. I also just noticed that launcher 7, which is a windows phone like home replacement, has a nice "tile animation" when the phone is rotated. So we know from these two examples that it is possible. Also, as many people have mentioned, the animation is included in Honeycomb. It's probably just a matter of time, but I'd like it sooner than later.

Just a quick update, the snes9x ex app, which is super nintendo emulator, has a great rotation animation. Think it could somehow be used for other purposes?
Look at the Samsung Galaxy S 2. It has a animation in the stock browser.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqxKHGO9HhM
Look at 1:11...
I have a feeling thus sort of thing will make the AOSP in the future. It would be great to contact the dev that created snes9x ex and ask if he knew how to integrate this into framework. I would think this task would nit take too much time, but then again adding a whole new transition animation, writing how this animation is initiated etc.. Could be more time consuming than I would assume.
The first iterations of Stock Android had rotate animations. The first one I remember was the screen zooming out, shaking left and right, then zooming in. In a later release it did this whole fade out/fade in thing, with some pulsing. The delays between rotating phone and screen completing rotation was big.
I don't know why the rotate animations were removed, but I guess that shows who's an Old school android user, as peeps now don't even know about it
we have screen off/ on crt animations TAKE THAT GAYOS! xD
back on topic: @pctechnerd wasn't this on rc22 of android? It might have been left out in later releases because of instability.
Animation on Droid X
The 2.3.3 leak of gingerbread for the Droid X has a very nice rotate animation built in.
Cool! Any idea how to get it to work on the moto droid (D1)?

It's very minimal I know, but it was meant to be this way. It's also open source, so the code is available for anyone to play with themselves.
Might be good for some people who don't want a hundred settings they have to mess with.
Features:
- Based off of Launcher+
- 5 screens
- Drop to Uninstall
- Scrollable Widgets
- Re-sizable Widgets
- Screen indicators
- Ten custom dockbar styles
COMING SOON:
- 3D Application Drawer
Ill try it out, before this thread turns ugly.
Ah, that's why. The link is broken to FF, but when used in Chrome its normal. The bashing problem still exists, though.
