So for the last 5 days I had some very weird problems with my phone. About 2 weeks ago I started with my first Cronos Rom and it worked great. I flashed 1.5 and 1.5.1 without problems and I used it without an ext partition all the time. But then the problems started. When I wiped my whole phone and tried to reinstall 1.5.1 JIT, the phone didnt boot anymore (stuck on the "Android" bootscreen). I wiped again and again, tried 1.5.1 without JIT, 1.5 etc, but I couldt get the phone to work. Nothing worked, so I created an ext partition and tried again. It worked. My phone started and I was able to use it for about a day without problems though I didnt want apps2sd. But then some other weird things happened. 3 Days ago I bought a bigger SD Card, partitioned it, wiped the whole phone and flashed 1.5.1 JIT. The phone started, but after I installed a few apps, I got an error message (installing xxx failed). I found out that theres an "repair ext" function, and it worked, but after I installed some more apps, the problem was back. The second problem was, that after rebooting the phone, more and more apps wouldnt start anymore (FC). The last problem that occured was an FC of the market app. After that, I wiped everything again, tried to flash 1.5.1 JIT, but it happened exactly the same like on the first time. Problems installing apps, FCs, stuck on boot etc.
I am totally down at the moment because I killed my whole weekend trying to get my phone working again. Could anyone please help my with this? I just dont understand what I did wrong. Shouldnt a complete wipe fix almost every problem? And I dont understand why I suddenly cant use my phone without an ext partition. Any Cronos version I try freezes on bootscreen without an ext patition. Is there any way to get my hero working again? Please please help me.
(PS: I also posted this on the Cronos Board.)
I would take out the sd card, wipe system and dalvik cache, and install some custom rom.
well, to make sure it is NOT your phone, did you try another ROM? Eliminate possible problems?
At least try something that is known and stable, like a stock rom, the Taiwain-rooted-repacks (not a rom based on it, but just the taiwan rom rooted) or good ol' MoDaCo 3.2 (based on 1.5 stock).
Til now I just tried the last 2 or 3 Cronos Roms, and as I said, they didnt work, but when I get home from work I'll try the Modaco Rom I used before.
I dont understand what this has to do with the Rom I use. I always wiped the whole phone, dalvik, etc. so shouldnt it just work like the first time I flashed it? No matter what Rom I use?
Another weird thing (could have something to do with this): After I wiped everything and flashed Cronos 1.5.1 JIT, the market still knew what apps I had installed last time. It showed my bought apps AND the apps I was able to install before the latest crash. So does this mean the phone wasnt wiped completely?
The market tracks your purchases and (free) downloads through your google account. So that's normal that the download-list is full.
But it might very well be that you didn't wipe correctly, although I'm curious how you manage to accomplish that. What is your current recovery?
The whole point about trying another ROM is elimination. It doesn't need to make sense, but you need to check things of the list.
There is something weird going on, so trying to solve it logically will only get you so far . Keep trying to narrow down the list of causes. Might well be a bug with Cronos 1.5, or the overclock not working these days because your phone is just a bit hotter than before, who knows.. Like I said: eliminate causes!
I'm using the newest AmonRa recovery to wipe the phone.
Theres one thing I forgot: Yesterday I flashed 1.5.1 without JIT, and then 1.5.1 JIT right after it (just rebooted a few times between). The phone worked great until my SD card crashed. In the taskbar it always showed me "checking for errors"(something like that, my phone's in german ), but in my PC and in the recovery the card worked like always, so I had to wipe the card and start again from the beginning.
Try another ROM , and if that doesn't work, try without SD card.

Maybe sdcard faulty? What are the logs you get when booting up the phone?
Soooo, I wiped everything again and flashed Modaco 2.8 without an ext partition. It booted correctly, so I wiped the dalvik cache and flashed Cronos 1.5.1 JIT. It also booted (wow, first time it booted without ext since all the problems started to occur) but I instantly got FC's (phone app for example). Now I wiped completely again and flashed 1.5.1 JIT. I hope it boots, as I still dont have an ext partition. As soon as I know something new, I'm gonna tell you.
So now it seems like its working again. I was able to install all the apps I need without a single error and now I'm restoring my settings and contacts. Suddenly it even works without ext again.
I guess there was something very big f*ked up that I couldnt repair by simple wiping the phone. Very weird that just flashing Modaco got it running again. Now I have back my working phone with ultrafast Cronos Rom and without App2SD, perfect. At least till now I hope it keeps working.
Thanks for your help guys, I think I would have smashed the phone to the wall sooner or later. I never thought about flashing Modaco so I'm happy there are people like you.
Thanks again, and thanks to Feeyo for his unbelievable Rom.
PS: Can I uninstall, Facebook and Footprints without destroying everything again?
Yes, just delete both apps using ADB or use a root explorer, search both apps in System/app and delete them.
Or you could use the MoDaCo online kitchen for removing those apps.
I have been using Tytung's "NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.2" ROM for about 2 months now after updating it from GB 2.3.2. It had been working beautifully until about 2 nights ago when it decided it would refuse to download an app from the play store (Ulysse Speedometer Pro). To try and fix this problem I tried restarting my phone and for some reason it refused to get past the boot screen (The tedious animation that repeats for hours).
Thinking that I'd completely killed my phone, I decided to update to V2.5. After loading this on successfully (with MAGLDR and the internal storage script that extends the memory onto an ext-partition) I was over the moon, but after re-syncing my phone with google, redownloading all my apps and setting everything up; my phone decided to do exactly the same thing. Firstly, refuse to download apps (Facebook this time) and then on restart, wouldn't get past the boot screen.
I have tried Hard Resetting, Clearing the Dalvik Cache, Reformatting completely. Everything I can think of. If I hard reset it and reflash the ROM it works fine but will break when I restart it. Any suggestions are welcome.
Ps. I have a good knowledge of programming and developing, but am fairly new to the Android scene. Sorry for any ignorance in advance.
God damnit!
i have the same problem..
any solution?
thanks!!!
same problem :/
Hello,
I have a problem with my i9505. The phone had been rooted with stock ROM. I've installed Avast Antivirus and decided to install Anti Theft feature. Installing it requires reboot. After confirming rebooting the phone beeped twice and rebooted. And this is where my problem begins.
After reboot the screen is black. It shows nothing. The phone boots, LED shows charging, connecting and disconnecting charger makes phone beep, but with few seconds delay. Connecting to PC shows content of phone memory.
I have managed to get to recovery. Odin had seen the phone so I've flashed official Samsung ROM. It didn't help.
Surprisingly after few hours with battery removed the phone started to work normally... until the next reboot.
And now it works until the reboot. After reboot the screen is black. After about 30 minutes without battery it works again.
The phone never got dropped or damaged in any way.
Before I get my phone to the service (hoping that they'll fix it under warranty) I'd like to ask you, if somebody had similar problem and knows how to fix it.
Thanks in advance.
Same problem on same phone
Hi,
I too had this problem, and fixing it wasn't difficult, however I used the TWRP recovery which @ingvarr_zaag probably doesn't have installed (seeing as they had stock firmware). Nevertheless I can confirm this identical problem on my own i9505.
I was using a CM10.1 nightly build for my i9505 and attempted to install the AVAST Anti-Theft feature using the root install method. On the first attempt at installation there was a free-space error, in which the amount of free space shown in the /system partition had overflowed and showed negative free space. To work around that error I filled up my /system partition until there was only 100mb free and then the install worked. All went well until I did a reboot; the phone hung at the i9505 screen.
I tried rebooting the phone and removing the battery for a short while, but nothing worked - the phone still hung at the i9505 screen. However, all other functions worked, so I just reflashed CM10.1 after wiping /cache, /data (but not /data/media), /system, and the Dalvik-cache (though that is in /cache AFAIK so pretty redundant). All was fine after that reflash, other than the annoyance of having to set everything up again (didn't make a backup recently).
Obviously the Anti-Theft wasn't very secure if it could be removed by a simple reflash. But to be fair, I highly doubt any software can protect itself from a format!
Anyway, just letting people know that I can confirm this this problem exists, and how I fixed it on my phone.

I had Clockwork Recovery installed but I couldn't use it, because after reboot the screen was black. I managed to get to android recovery and flashed stock Samsung ROM by Odin. It didn't help.
After 2 weeks in service it's possible that today I get my phone back. Finally, because two weeks with Samsung Galaxy Advance were miserable.
Actual status on service's page says, that they replaced main board in my phone.
BTW: no Avast Anti Theft ever again.
Hello.
I guess I am done with my S4(i9500). Too many strange problems since past one week.
So, I was on Halycon ROM and one fine morning, phone restarted and all apps started optimizing again. Ok no issues.
But now I noticed, whenever I restarted, 2-3 apps optimized everytime.
So did a clean flash and installed Cri5.
Now restored some apps and then 1 app optimizes on boot now. Is there a way to log which app is causing the problem?
There's one issue. Another issue is phone restarts randomly when gets up too hot and gets stuck on S4 boot screen. Have to remove battery and restart to boot it up..
Another issue is that the phone isn't being recognized by my PC. Tried Kies. Tried everything. I don't get the MTP menu when I connect the power cable.
Oh, and another issue, I guess my SD card is infected with a virus. Any recommended free antivirus for android?
Thanks if you could help me with one of the aforementioned problems.
Regards
Sounds like you need to flash back to stock in order to rid yourself of the software issues. If the issues are present on a stock ROM, it could be a hardware problem.
Sorry for the long post! As a bit of background, I was running stock rom with sytemless root, EX Kernel, TWRP and I had just enabled xposed (the only new variable in my setup). So I plugged my 6P in at the gym before I play some ball. Phone proceeds to random "reboot" a few seconds later, no huge deal I thought. Then it enters The Indestructible Bootloop (IBL). It won't boot past the animated colored dots. Play for a couple hours, phone still not booted; slight to moderate anxiety setting in. I figure, worst case scenario, I have to flash a factory image when I get home. So I try to reboot it a couple times by booting into the bootloader (holding power and down vol), then recovery then reboot. I also flashed the xposed uninstaller and deleted /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/conf/modules.list: neither worked to solve the IBL. Then I just waited til I got home and tried to plug it into my Win 10 PC. Nothing. Device manager doesn't even recognize it as anything plugged in; moderate to high anxiety setting in. Note that I could previously connect it just fine and device manager doesn't see ANY kind of device connected, so I don't believe it's a driver issue or anything like that. So, through TWRP, I look to see what's on the device storage: I have an old nandroid ( I believe stock unrooted) and a custom rom, Chroma as well as some GApps and a couple custom kernels. At this point I wanted to preserve my text messages so I did a new nandroid then tried restoring the old nandroid as well as flashing Chroma without wiping data. Nothing, still won't get past the colored dot IBL. So then I tried doing a full wipe before trying the old nandroid and Chroma again. Nothing. Figured it may have been a malicious file on my sd card so I deleted a few files that I didn't immediately recognize in TWRP and tried all the above steps again. Still nothing. So I just called Google and they offered to replace it. However I would like to have my phone for the weekend and not have to have a $650 hold on my account. I'm on Project Fi so I can't use a temporary burner phone. I figure I'm probably screwed but hopefully one of you geniuses could help me out. Thanks in advance!
tl;dr: Phone randomly rebooted and entered indestructible bootloop. Windows device manager won't recognize it at all. Tried everything I can, including clean flash of custom rom and an old nandroid: phone still won't get past bootloop.
