Is installing a Kernel the same way as installing a rom? Transfer to SD card and then flash using clockwork? BTW its Super I/O.
Yep, but I read Eugene's IO kernel doesn't benefit any other ROM besides his own, as stated by Sombionix. You could still flash it though, it wont mess anything up, as the kernel still works with any 2.2 ROM.

Thank you, I am trying to improve battery life but if it doesn't help then I might not bother.

I tried nandroiding back to ezterry's rooted aosp but it uses a cm6-based kernel and therefore boot-looped me. I didn't want to flash back to 2.22.23.02.
I want to use the new radio for the alleged extra memory that it frees up.
Thoughts? I rooted the ota froyo and overclocked it. I'd like flash a kernel to OC more, or maybe try a different rom so I can play with swap. I just want to stay on the new radio.

just flash the kernel from the OP to any rom. It should work. Not sure it will work on CM ROMs though.

Interesting... most of the ROMs around here are CM based though, such as biffmod, Tmus, etc.
I have had my phone rooted and running custom roms for months now. I never had the courage to try a lagfix though. I would like to try now that i have a better understanding of nandroid backups, and titanium backups, and how to use ODIN if necessary.
So my question to all the users is which lagfix works best with the current batch of FROYO roms? Let me know what you guys think, and if you could provide a link to a thread or website that includes instructions on how to apply and reverse the lagfix, i would greatly appreciate it.

There are a few poll threads going around about Froyo. Maybe not lag fixes specifically but it is mentioned often. I find lagfix is less needed on Froyo.
I am using Axura 2.0.5 its very snappy without a lagfix. However there is a VooDoo kernel for it. I don't use it. OCLF seems to not play well yet on some 2.2. Some it does.
TeamWiskey makes good Roms for lagfixes. And Eugene cranks out the cool tweakable kernals and Roms.
There's s alot to checkout, flash away! Search the site and use the Vibrant Bible it has most links you need. The unistal Voodoo is allover the site, just search.
If you don't know yet, always disabled or uninstall any lagfix prior to flashing a new rom. OCLF Iis very easy to uninstall.

What lag fix do you guys recommend?
I was thinking about Voodoo?
I've never applied any lagfix.
Is there anything I should consider? Complications? Future flashing problems? Backing up necessary? Unexpected issues I should know about? Etc etc..

Voodoo lagfix. It's pretty much standard now on the vibrant, and there really isn't anything to worry about, assuming you flash a voodoo kernel with a charged battery. But it's so widely supported, you more than likely won't find anything that doesn't support it.

What is voodoo 6?
I installed kb5 kernel with voodoo and noticed no difference in lag improvement. My phone still lags.
I use toxic 8 with the v6 scripts and bali x kernel. Dragon kernel #1 ran smooth too. fastest my phone has run in past few months with no lag. I only overclock to 1100mhz otherwise it locks up. Good battery life too.

i personally think the lag fixes are only for inflated quadrant scores. might provide some usable speed in jk6, but not really necessary IMO
running nero beta 2 right now, and it's so frickin fast i don't see any need for any lag fixes. ymmv.

It's from a leaked 2.2.1 Vibrant build. It improves write speed without converting partitions to different file systems. If you do go with a lagfix, I'd go with ttabbal's voodoo kernel. It drains battery because it's an I9000 build, but ext4 is less prone to corruption. Ext2 lagfixes are the fastest, but have the most problems. They'll run fine for a week, then all of a sudden you start getting random force closes or see apps disappearing.

lagfix not necessary. i ran one once and while the quadrant score was cute, i didn't notice any real world improvement.
you're better off with a custom rom and/or oc kernel.
The reason I dont want a custom rom is because I want to have all my apps and info and not keep wiping

understandable, but that's what titanium backup is for (and there's a free version). you can backup all your apps and data and restore it after a flash.
not telling you to flash a custom rom, but you are probably going to get more out of a custom kernel/rom than lagfix.

Help please!
Just installed voodoo lagfix.
And it is going through a bootloop... I see the Vibrant boot screen, then Galaxy S Gt-i9000 boot screen, and some lady saying "not enough space on partition." Does this loop over and over.
What did I do wrong?

I just went into recovery and I'm disabling voodoo, lets see what that does.
Well with voodoo disabled my phone boots up again.

It worked for me! First, flash the stock 2.2 UVKB5 deodexed/rooted ROM, then flash the stock kernel with voodoo enabled, there shouldn't be any issues...

It should be safe to flash this kernel with voodoo disabled if you're still on stock Froyo 2.2 KB5 deodexed. After flashing this, it'll take like 10 min to do its magic (you'll hear the woman's voice telling you the status).

Thanks, flashed it, but my phone is still acting strange. For example, Android Market is completely missing.
I'm going to disable voodoo again, flash deodexed/rooted KB5 back, start fresh, and try installing Voodoo again. Hope I don't mess something up again.

There is a picture of a box, with an arrow coming out of the box, pointing to the android man, with a progress bar on the bottom, but nothing is happening other than the progress bar spinning.

I suggest doing a full wipe and Odin back to stock!!! from there, flash 2.2 kb5 and then the kernel with voodoo.
BTW, how are you flashing the kernel? I used an app called SGS Kernel Flasher, you can download it from the market...
Ok I think I'm ok now.
Got voodoo working.
Phone seems to still lag though, got to play with it some more.
My quadrant score is now 1400, if that even matters.
I was using cwm to flash the kernel.

I would flash eclair with odin and reflash get all the ghosts out of the system that always works for me.

I'm tired of looking for an answer to this seemingly simple question on google and searching on here. I've had at least 5 tabs open for the last hour combing through posts and replies.
Question is this: A500 running thor's v14.2 rom along w/ his custom kernel. To revert back to stock. Do I need to flash back to the stock kernel along w/ the stock rom. If so, where can I get the kernel from?! The closest thing I came across was a post that gave the source link where you had to build the kernel yourself.

of course not! lol. I was too excited to play around w/ it that I neglected the basics. And honestly, I've been putting off reverting back because I'm quite happy w/ thor's rom.

I've also decided to head back to a stock ROM in both anticipation of the ICS update and to try and get video working with Skype. My problem is, I'm using a A501, which seems to be the unwanted red headed stepchild of the Iconia family!
I'm on a custom ROM (Moscow something-er-rather?) with CWM. Do I just find a copy of the stock ROM and flash like a custom? I just really want to be able to get OTA updates and hopefully solve my Skype video issues...

i got a a500 and i assume you extract the update.zip and flash as per a500. Dont wanna put u wrong tho' so maybe ask moscow on his rom thread, he da man when it comes to the 501
Okay - I'm going to try and flash that update.zip and see what happens. My biggest concern is the lack of Skype video - I can only assume it has to do with the ROM flashed, and nothing else, because other people claim they are able to use Skype video.
