I am now getting this error when trying to RESTORE a nandroid backup via rom manager: This does not seem to be a valid backup. The MD5 file is missing.
This problem happened after I did all of the DJ05 updates. System is running GREAT with Super Dark v1 ROM and JT 12/12 Test Kernel.
No voodoo installed
ROM Manager - clockworkmod Recovery 2.5.1.0
Everything with system running great - gps solid
All apps have been updated to current versions - maps, etc..
Again: I can do a backup via rom manager but, when i do the restore I am getting this missing MD5 file error.
HELP? Any ideals?
Are you trying to restore a DI01 backup?

No this is not a DI01 backup - My current backup is a DJ05 clockworkmod recovery via rom manager (backup current rom). i have been running DJ05 for about two weeks and my backup is dated Dec 15
My next step is to reinstall Kernel wipe data than reinstall ROM and apps (2 hours of work) i hope this work
I will than see if i can do a backup and restore

if you have titanium backup pro this would not take 2 hours.. you can easily backup your apps in ~15-20 min and the same for a restore.. if you dont have this app look into it. let me know if you ned help using the program

Im running fresh 0.5.3 and have the latest amon recovery, i can do a ext+nandroid backup fine but when i try to restore after i reboot, it gets hung on the
htc screen and will not load. Ive tried several backups and it will not work when restoring. Any ideas?
Make sure you're wiping the data, cache and dalvic before restoring the backup.
Are you sure the backup is getting created?
I know SteelH was posting yesterday about the NAND + EXT backup not even working with amon recovery.
I personally don't even know what it does, but all my backups are just "NAND backups and seem to work fine.
I'm assuming you used Amon_ra to create the backup and you're using Amon_ra to restore?
I created a backup with amon_ra and tried to restore with Clockworkmod and the backup doesn't even show up and vice versa. I found out by trial and error that backups created by clockworkmod have to be restore with clockworkmod and backups created by amon_ra have to be restored with amon_ra.
I don't know if that's the case for everyone, but it sure is for me. I'm running whitslack's 1.47 and Evolution V9.
Back to the Nand+Ext, maybe SteelH has figured it out, maybe send him a pm or search for his posts in the Q&A forum from yesterday.
make sure your batt has enough power
I am fully charged when i nandroid. It creates the backup and restores it but when i reboot it freezes on the htc screen. So this is a bug with the amon recovery image then? It would be nice to be able to backup & restore my ext apps because i use apps2sd. I could use titanium backup but nandroid is faster.
CW 3.0.0.5 or cw 2.5.1.2?
Does it make a difference which I use to do my nandroid backups? I'm using Nebula which still requires flashing in CW 2.5...so that's why I ask.
Also I did a backup yesterday in each, and when I tried to restore from both they both said md5 checksum fail. I had to restore from an older backup. What would cause that?
Did you rename the backup? That messes it up.
I dont think the CWM version matters, I restored a backup from 2.5 in 3 after an upgrade
Yeah I renamed them. thanks for the answer on that.
When renaming don't use space and keep it simple some characters don't work (for me).

Not sure how it's done on the epic side of things, but nobody does nandroid backups in the captivate, vibrant, or i9k forums. Clockworkmod doesn't save the modems or kernals and such all the time so it doesn't back em up. Therefore you can be restoring a rom over a bad kernal flash, or incompatible modem, ect. Just keep the cw update.zip on the sd, odin to stock, use titanium backup to restore apps. Android ID changer to restore id and your good.
Quick question, when I do a nand backup on the Fascinate, does that backup the kernel as well?
I know on the eris, if I was to flash a new rom and kernel, and didn't like that rom, all I had to do was wipe the data and cache, and restore the backup and I would be done, is that the same on the fascinate?
No, all it backs up is the rom and your data.
On a related note, is it possible to do a backup of the entire phone (ROM, kernel, data) so that it can be re-flashed / recovered via Odin?
I had an issue last night where I had to restore an old backup with CWM / ROM Manager, because of a buggy and unstable kernel that I had installed. And the phone was completely unstable / unusable after the restore from backup. I had to flash back to complete stock DL09 via Odin, and was wondering whether there was a way for me to create my own Odin image if this happens again.

Hey guys!
So yesterday, I installed the app 'Android Control Center'. I messed around with a few settings and ended up in a bootloop. I do not have anything backed up in Titanium backup. So I made a nandroid backup in the hope that id be able to restore my apps out of that by using nandroid manager, but all of my app data were not extracted from the nandroid. So now im planning to restore the nandroid backup and use TWRPs file manager to remove that apk and its data. Are there any other things I should do to fix this problem? Will this work??
Guys, any help is appreciated!!!
Hardly believe that app can cause your system into bootloop... anyway, if you want to try.
Titanium Backup can restore apps from Nandroid backup, preferably CWM tar backup. However, this function is currently having issues with Android 4.3, so if you want to reflash the ROM, pick ROM with 4.2.2.
I believe TWRP backup should also works, but I haven't try it before. If you need to use TWRP, do it without compression & encryption.
IMO your problem can be a simple fix by remove the faulty app and reflash the ROM.
just reflash your rom via recovery, dont wipe, you wont lose any data
Alright thanks for the response. I copied my TWRP backup to my PC, extracted it and now I'm trying to copy the data folder from my TWRP backup to my ROM's data folder. Hopefully, this will work.
PS - I removed the app and i reflashed the rom but that didn't seem to fix the problem.

Here is what happened.... I had stock 4.2.2 on my rooted nexus 4. This is when i made the twrp backup of my system and data and recovery I flashed cyanogen Mod. I flashed back to stock. Then while still rooted i upgraded to 4.3 from the device... then i rerooted. When i rerooted i flashed the newest version of twrp recovery 2.6. and i cant restore from my backup for some reason.... I tried to flash old versions of twrp and restore with no luck ... please help because i need the files for titanium backup to work. How do i get the data from that backup?

I am trying it now but it just keeps decompressing over and over and when i check to see if there is any user apps or data it says none but i know the backup has it
