My wife just got the evo and we were playing around with video calls. Here is the problem. If she calls me using qik and I answer I have a talk button at the bottom I push when I talk. It works fine. Now when I call her on qik the talk button is gone and I can hear her but she can't here me. I'm just curios as to why the talk button disappears when I make the call. It just echoes in my phone. Anybody know what's up with this. Both phones have the current update from the market. Thanks for your help.
I don't have a real answer but, This is what qik told me. The person who initiates the call is "supposed" to have the talk button. I initiated a call to a relative with an evo and he ended up with the microphone. I don't know anyone with an epic to try it with. I think the software is still buggy. There is a version of OoVoo for epic and evo you can try. I haven't because I don't have a test partner until i get my cousin back on hand.
I'll try it out with you if you want. I'll pm you my number. I don't have anyone else to try it out with an epic either. Just let me know. Yeah when I call her I don't have a talk button but I still hear her she can't hear me cause my talk button is not there.
version
i have two epics = one on stock sprint and one with ViperRom Trinity DK28 3.0.3 and qik downloaded from the market [0.03.765].
i've noticed that when I initiate a qik call with version 0.03.765- I cannot connect with my stock phone. But when the call is made from the stock phone, it connects.
and the video quality is nowhere near what's shon in the commercials.
Yeah I was thinking it was because of the version numbers. Since I'm still on eclair and she's on froyo that's why it's not working. Thanks for all your help.
jus to answer ur question; the software will have the button regardless to what phone it is; Tango is much better (phone to phone)

I have a question, has anyone experienced this: Your phone starts ringing, but in addition to the ring you can hear background noises, including the person who is calling.
So basically you can hear the person on the other end before you pick up the phone. Me and my friends did an unscientific test by calling each other, and found we could hear the other person before answering about 25% of the time.
We all have the HTC Touch, but I have experienced this on my HTC Mogul; We also all have Sprint, but the incoming caller does not have to have Sprint, as it has done it with my friend who has Alltel.
Is this some sort of call screening feature of WinMo or is it a strange bug?
I've never noticed this with my Vogue or Mogul.
I recently purchased the VZW VX6900 and previously had the 6900 through Qwest.

i was running a custom rom a few months ago and when i'd get calls i could hear some sort of sounds comming from the rear speaker. i have never actually even thought that it could be from the incoming phone. but to be honest at that time it sounded like it was just some background whooshing sound.
i'm running vetvito's 2.1 rom now and i dont experience this anymore.
Same problem on my Sprint Mogul, but only recently.
And only from iPhone owners.
Hmm.
i have the same thing pen to me too. although it seems like it only happens when my girlfriend calls and she's driving in a certain area.
It's happened to me a few times too. It really freaks people out when I repeat to them what they were saying before I picked up!
It used to happen to be every time on my Alltel Touch until I upgraded to the latest ROM. I wish it still happened, I sort of enjoyed it at times.
It happens to me sometimes, too. It can be fun
I am using TELUS vogue in india on TATA network
i am on my own have unlocked the phone to use it in INDIA i have a found a strange thing that
whenvere a phone call comes along with the ring i can hear the sound of person who is calling or any sound i can hear around him
although it is great as i can hear what the caller wants to say to me!!
i 1st thought that only my phone might had such problem but i unlocked another SPRINT VOGUE which showed the same signs too and in it also the voice of caller leaked along with the ring goin on and his/her voice
i cant hear the voice when i put my phone on VIBRATE MODE i am using NFS FAN V17 ROM
i have beeen using the phone 4rm WINMO 6.0/6.1/6.5 still the phone shows leak in rings
so what should be the problem that such a sound leaks!!????
That a funny one, never heard of that problem here in the States. I would say it is probably something to do with your network and a flashed phone from another country. But it sound like a cool feature as long as they don't hear you. But yes the only thing that should be carried is the ring until the call is answered.
If you hear your phone still ringing after you answer the call then it is defenately a phone issue.
If you search the Vogue forum you'll see that an awful lot of people with flashed Vogues on WinMo see this (some people with stock Vogues claim to see it as well).
I don't think it's international-related and I don't think anyone ever figured out why it happened or how to change it.

Confirmed.
My vogue on Sprint does the same. Usually when another person on the sprint network calls me.
I'm a little frustrated.
Seems to me that 3-way calling has different capabilities depending on whether you are initiating a conference call, or a second party calls while you're already in a call with someone else.
I find that if I am in a call, and put that person on hold and call another, I have the "merge" button on the screen, and can bring both parties together into a 3-way call. However, I can't find any way to switch back and forth between the two callers, speaking to each independently. Am I missing something? I'd really like to be able to do this.
Alternatively, if I'm on a call and someone else calls, I get a call-wating ring and caller ID, can answer the call, putting the first party on hold. Then, where the "Merge" button shows in the above circumstance, I instead have a "Swap" button, and can switch back and forth between the two calls. I can't find any way to merge the two calls into a 3-way conference call. Am I missing something? I'd really like to be able to do this.
Finally, when I have two parties, one on hold the other active, if I press "End Call" it hangs up both parties, not just the active one I'm talking to! I can't find any way to hang up just the party I'm actively talking to. Am I missing something? I'd really like to be able to do this.
This all seems rather braindead, and I'm really hoping it's me that's got the dead brain, rather than the designers, and am simply missing something.
Comments?
i noticed that too a few weeks back. i can get over the fact that in order to conference you have to initiate both calls. but i hate how it hangs up both parties when you have one on hold,,, that is just stupid to me lol. wish there was a fix for that. do you know if the other galaxy devices suffer from that also? maybe 2.2 fixes that i hope.
lol this is the same on every epic.. but just to ease the mood for u guys, its not really a solution to the problem but if u get a second call and u put the first party on hold to talk to the 2nd party, when u end the 2nd call to get back to the first call it shows that it ended the call, however, if the 1st party is still waiting on the line then u'll automatically get a call back regardless of the call ending and u can continue to converse without having to call back... technically the 1st party does't call u back, he/she is still waiting on the line.. so its just a weird feature or a network issue lol..

That's good to know. Functionally then, at least, it works the way it "should" -- it's just a bit delayed and therefore a matter of inconvenience. I always though the other party was getting disconnected and actually calling me back.
Regardless, there must be some technical limitation that has it designed this way. Surely marketing and engineering at Sprint and Samsung aren't this completely moronic, right?
It's a limitation of Sprint's CDMA network and not your phones. Has always been this way with Sprint. I know cause I've been with Sprint 12 yrs.

i guess cuz its a limitation and not an issue for them? lol..
I'd bet this is why Google Voice conference calling doesn't work. Sprint doesn't do 3-way calling the same way as most other carriers.

It's not a limitation
I have to disagree with you. I have had plenty of phones where the 3-way calling worked just fine, and I have been with Sprint for around 8 years. It is a limitation with the phone. CDMA has nothing to do with this. The problem this thread is addressing is not an issue on the HTC Hero, or the HTC Evo, or either of the Touch line of phones. It is a Samsung issue, and whenever I've talked to customer support (Samsung), they have told me that they are working on a fix for it. I just want people to understand that this is not a CDMA issue, it's moreso a Samsung issue.
I just got a refurbished Galaxy S4 from Best Buy after breaking the screen on my LG Optimus G. I took the phone home and rooted it, but now I realized I'm having an issue with the speaker for the earpiece. Whenever I try to make a phone call, I can hear the other person for a couple seconds, then it just cuts out. Other person can still hear me, I just can't hear them. I hang up and try again, but can't hear anything then from the beginning. I found that if I go into voicemail, it will play a message just fine from there through the speaker and basically resets it so I can hear part of a phone call again before it breaks out again. Phone is stock 4.3 rooted with nothing removed or frozen yet. Really appreciate any help anyone can offer, either on how to fix this or how to unroot it to take it back to Best Buy if that is needed. Thanks.
Anybody have any idea what's going on here? This is getting really annoying and I would really like to try and get it fixed. Thanks.
I had an issue with my LG G2 where people can't hear me when I call them. If I turn on speakerphone, they can usually hear me then. So I exchanged my G2 for a new one. Same problem now. About every 5th call or so, people can't hear me. It's driving me nuts. Could there be some software that's messing things up? I have google voice installed, and while most of the calls in question are GV calls, not all of them are. Just called someone now from my regular number and they couldn't hear me. Anyone have any tips or even advice on how I can tackle this?
Running latest Android updates and apps always, no root. Verizon. Calls placed from random locations (and even different states).
I am having the same issue. There are a couple of things I have tried. The most promising is to turn off Google hotword detection on every screen.
You can also try turning off the Privacy Keeper and Voice Enhancement in Call Settings. If any of this works for you, or you find and answer, let me know!

Having the same issue with 2 lines, same LG G2 phone. Called Verizon, was told it sounds like a hardware issue. I'm thinking it's something to do with their Android update personally.
Had exact same issue and took phone to repair center. They said it was mic issue. They ended up replacing the entire phone but guess what - issue is still there on new phone.

I've seen this issue on many forums and with the number of people that are having the problem, it has to be either LG flaw or a software issue. I'm trying turning off the ok google, noise cancellation, and privacy keeper. But I'm pretty sure I tried those on the last phone with the same results.
Just to make sure we're all having the same issue, you can be heard once you turn on speakerphone, correct?
Update on this: Still having the issue after disabling ok google hotword..

I read your reply some time ago but didn't answer because I had no answer.
Today the bug appeared again so I turned on speakerphone like you said. Guess what, they could then hear me!
Thanks for the tip @eepyikes, its a good workaround but lets hope for a proper solution.

Any of you with this issue also have a Pebble or other type of smart watch?
I've noticed the same problem but the issue goes away when my Pebble isn't actively paired.

-Correction- I hadn't had this issue since I disconnected my Pebble about 10 days back. It came back today when I made a call. What I noticed today is.......
When I switched to the speakerphone the person still couldn't hear me very well. Switching back to mic the problem is still there. But when I turned on my BT headset the audio was fine. Switching back to the phone mic from the BT the problem cleared up.
Did a test call initiating the call on the BT headset and had the same audio problem through BT. Switching back to the phone mic or speakerphone cleared it up.
Initiated another call on the speakerphone. Same audio problem. Switched to BT and it cleared up again. Switched back to the phone mic and it was still fine.
Seems the issue is there when initiating the call on BT, mic or speakerphone but switching from BT to the phone or phone to BT clears it up. I'm on a D801 (TMO) and first noticed this about three weeks back.
Rebooting the phone seemed to clear it up at least for the short term. I just noticed that the Google search app updated on the phone about two/three weeks back. Seems about the same time I started noticing the issue.
I had a backup of Google search 4.1.29 from back in January. Just restored that version and blocked it from updating to see if the issue comes back again.
Interesting to see this is also on the d802. Mine is the VS980.
The 13qcelp trick does not fix it. So tired of this!
Any other tricks out there??
Happened twice in one day. New record for me. Sick of people saying "hello?? Anyone there??? Hello??" until i turn speakers on. With speakers sound is horrible so really annoying! Wonder if issue will happen with AOSP/CM roms.....
