Ok -I just got my Galaxy S II here in the uk from phones4u (wouldn't really recommend them but they had it early. My previous Galaxy S which I had massive GPS problems with over almost every ROM and radio combination is eventually going on eBay.
I thought others here might be interested in the SII
Initial impressions are:
Wow - this thing is blazingly and surprisingly fast. I've seen reviews that say it's fast but when you use it - it simply refuses to slow down anywhere in the UI or apps. The Market for example is crazy fast and installing apps is a breeze.
TouchWiz 4 is really a huge improvement and the small changes here and there along with the speed mentioned abive make it a real pleasure to use. Can't as of yet replace the Messaging app link to GoSMS (my personal choice) - but maybe will be able to when root becomes available.
Now - a little background information: I'm very sensitive to colour and brightness uniformity variations and I have to say that over the past few years have had some issues with monitors, a Samsung TV and an iPhone 4 I sent back for problems I know others simply cannot see or simply don't consider "problems". I do - and for that reason I was astonished and delighted by the Super Amoled screen in my GPS defying Galaxy S. I literally love(d) that screen and it was crisp, sharp, large and beautiful with absolutely no colour shift or backlight issues (there isn't one!).
So when I found out that the Galaxy SII had a Super Amoled+ screen I was dribbling with anticipation.
When I turned on my brand-shiny-new Galaxy SII this afternoon however I noticed something I'd seen while toying with the first few SII's I'd handled in the phones4u shops but thought nothing of - the screen is slightly "muddy" although vibrant and there is a definite variation in either brightness or colour shift across the screen from top to bottom - especially visible (almost only visible) on solid colour backgrounds in apps and also Gmail. In know and will state in anticipation that most others wouldn't notice this. Having had my Galaxy S though which had a screen I consider virtually perfect - I was a bit surprised to find that this new SuperAmoled+ screen had a completely different colour temperature and exhibited what looked like colour shift from top to bottom. I was also very surprised that the screen did NOT look as sharp as the screen on my original Galaxy S because these Samoled+ screens are meant to be "sharper". I wonder what the pixel density is compared to the Samoled screens?
Also, when you tilt the phone, the colour of the screen shifts a lot more than the original Galaxy S. Hmmmm......
Anyway - after having just paid around (I am crazy I know) £500 for this phone I feel a little sick.
I LOVE the speed. I love the interface. I know and love Android. I'm surprised by the screen however.
Just thought I'd give everyone a heads-up and HIGHLY recommend you go and have a look at one first before, say, buying online if you are also sensitive to screen uniformity or if you prefer the more "blue" white balance of the original Samoled screens as opposed to a more "yellow" tint - which this SGSII has.
I'm hoping that maybe it will "warm up" and/or "settle in" but I'm not too sure about that. I've tried turning off "auto brightness" and that definitely makes the screen brighter - as you'd imagine - but doesn't seem to help with my issues described above.
Now - onto something else entirely - GPS:
I've only tested this VERY quickly and indoors but the GPS seems to work better than the oroginal SGS. Will do further testing because I use Google Navigation quite a lot but so far I'm hopeful this is now fully resolved. GPS crappyness was one of the main reasons I upgraded and the main lure of this phone was the Samoled+ screen, so I really don't know what I'm gonna do.
The screen issues are so subjective I'm guessing the shop wouldn't consider it a "fault" and so I'd have a fight on my hands with that one.
I think I'll wait a little to see what happens - I think my eyes would get used to the colour balance being slightly warmer but the slight blurriness of the icons/screen and the slightly lighter bottom half (very slight) will probably stay as they are and are very noticeable to me.
Anyway - hope that was of some interest to someone. Any questions - just ask and I'll do my best to answer.
Nice little roundup, glad you're pleased with it on the whole.
Is there any way you could get an image or two of both handsets side by side, comparing the viewing angles and colour shift for potential buyers?
There have been quite a few tweaks relating to the screen in custom SGS kernels, were you running stock or something like speedmod on the SGS?
You are very wicked boy now i want .
jje
Congrats alsheron
Hope ya will enjoy your new toy
Any hands-on pics? I know i can easily find it on google but... you know, its kinda different when pics are taken by a non-gadget bloggers

Sorry guys - the screen issues and finding out that £399 is the price on O2 payg (i'm on o2 contract) has made me feel a bit more sick.
I'm attempting to take it back to phones4u tomorrow. I already called and can tell it's going to be trouble. They have to call "head office" apparently. Thank God I can show my existing SGS next to the new SGSII so that they can clearly see the difference. I consider the issues I described a fault of the first batch and being able to see the difference easily should help me but I've not got a good feeling about phones4u. We'll see though. Hopefully they'll surprise me.
Wish me luck! -> Really need all your goodwill
You should post a track from my tracks with both device to see how GPS compare

I hope you have 2.3.3 on your SGS to compare it to your SGS2, as 2.3.3 will warm up any screen (google wanted this, not samsung). If you are compareing 2.2 or 2.2.1 with your new SGS2 then that is not a fare comparison of the screen and its color!
The Engadget review posted a few hours ago said there's an app or setting that lets you change the screen's colour temperature. In fact, they say pretty much the opposite to what you've said about the screen.

Perhaps you have a faulty one.
Congrats man. And good luck!
Can't wait to get my hands on this new Galaxy.

Well the SGS I is still a very nice and capable phone. You probably won't regret holding onto this one when the SGS III comes out.

Any updates regarding s3?

Ok its getting close to the 30th so this thread is to stop EVERYONE and their dog opening new threads shouting about how much they love their new phone.
If you feel the need to tell everyone that your new phone just arrived or that you just went to pick yours up then you can post in here.
You can also post your initial thoughts and reviews if you wish and I will link to them in this 1st post if you let me know.
Hopefully this thread will stop thousands of similar threads being started on and around the 30th.
It should also stop users starting several similar new threads saying they have just picked up the SGS3 and asking if anyone wants anything tested/reviewed. Instead, EVERYONE can just post their questions in here and they will be answered (maybe) by people who have the phone in their hand.
If ANY threads with the above subject are started they will be closed without warning.
Personally im picking up my white S3 Sim Free from my local CarPhoneWareHouse on Wednesday and should have the SGS3 ToolKit up and running for it soon after .
EDIT: 30/05/2012 Picked my shiny new Galaxy S3 up from my Orange shop today.

Pebble blue or marble white?
Pick mine up tomorrow from Samsung Stratford UK. Cannot wait!
I ordered the sleek looking white version.
I look forward to seeing the pictures.
i wonder how the phone is in person? the one x didn't impress like how i saw it in pictures.. LOL.. i was disappointed! wasn't really bad but i thought it'd look nicer , it must be the matte finish or probably the color of the phone, i saw the white one.. htc should've gone with a glossy or metallic look of the plastic... would look better imo..

It would be awesome if people mentioned which color they have. Just being curious about the availability of the pebble blue.
White, using it for past 4 days loving it. Rooted, CMW already. tested some ROMs on it. Working great. Have wifi bug either from importing legacy software of LG O3D or new dont know yet. After a night sleep in morning the phone doesn't recognize any wifi hotspots, have to toggle off/on again.

Thanks for the videos..
Can you do another video of the buddy photo tag feature in camera? can it detect faces properly?
Also, have you tried using the Allshare Play feature. Details on the setup can be found in allshareplay (dot) com
or check youtube video link HRgYwWROC7A
Just opened up my brand new marble whiteo) SGS3. It feels really fast, faster actually than it did at the store, and definitely faster than my old SGS2. The display is really amazing, even though I do notice the sparser grid of the subpixels when looking at black text on a red background(engadget homepage). It does however look much better than the Super Amoled Plus display of the SGS2.
The camera is really fast, but the transparent UI that we saw on the review models isn't there(don't really like the grey good for nothing bars, but it could be a setting I've missed). The pics are crisp and clean, but don't expect any miracles from it, as low-light performance isn't the best, but good enough.
The video pop-up feature is also really cool. Gonna post more first impressions soon!
Oh, and the SGS3 is really really comfortable to use! Feels right at home in my hand.
EDIT: Just tried out the sound quality, and boy is it an upgrade from the SGS2. Much better now! Hopefully we'll se an awesome review again by supercurio once he gets his hands on it.
Browser is blazing fast. Installing apps is blazing fast. The GPS is insanely fast, got a lock in 2 seconds inside my house(google maps) first time I tried it! Everything is just working fluidly, but when enabling the power saving mode, the fluidity goes down the toilet.
Everything, but the pentile screen(notice it when I surf the web on my couch) has been amazing thus far!
EDIT2: Woops, got the colors mixed up..
@Toss3, It's "marble white" and "pebble blue". oh btw I hate you (joke)
So the first one that posts a picture of his Pebble Blue GSIII wins

this is because you set your cam to do 8mp shots, and the 8mp resolution has a 4:3 aspect ratio. choose one of the wide resolutions, like 6.5w, this will have a 16:9 aspect ratio and give you the transparent effect on the buttons.
I was very impressed at the review posted on Android Police.
It's like they are reviewing a different tablet from the one I have.
It's a shame as people might be discouraged from buying a great product.
I personally wouldn't have bought it base on the article posted.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...iew-an-embarrassing-lazy-arrogant-money-grab/
My response (added to the comments on Android Police)
I do agree with some of the observations made by the reviewr.
However, I do like the tablet a lot, I really wasn't looking to buy a tablet when I drove to Bestbuy, but since my HTC flyer is not performing as it used to, and I love the pen, I decided to go with this one after testing it for a while.
And I have to say I like it, it's plenty fast, I do agree that the multi tasking is more a gimmick, but it's really not the reason why I bought it.
Something I do have to note, mine is not flexible at all, I was really amazed at your video. Mine will not flex or make any sounds. I does looks very plastic, but other than that I have nothing bad to say in regards to the built quality. I do miss the aluminum on my HTC flyer, but the overall construction of this device is really good.
I don't have misaligned issues or parts or corners that look out of place, it feels completely solid.
I guess that different people have different opinions and everyone has different needs or expectations for devices.
I do respect the point of view presented in this article, but also disagree with some of the observations.
I would recommend interested people to actually go and try it out yourself.
Also, something I did notice when I started playing with it, is that mine felt much more heavy compared to the one the Samsung representative had at Bestbuy.
The Samsung lady had a black one what felt surprisingly light, could it bee there is kind of a demo version?
Anyway, the only point I completely agree with reviewer is that the multitasking is only gimmick... other than that my experiences been completely different and I really love the tablet, its my first 10 inch, and my first Samsung tablet, before I had Dell, HTC, and I also own a Nexus 7.
I find the built of the Samsung to be vastly superior of that of the N7.
Read this one from GSMArena. Their very thorough as you'll see (it's 10 pages). I think a lot of reviewers are just assuming the Note's a standard G-Tab with a pen and not really spending the time to appreciate it how well it does the things tablets are primarily used for.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_10_1-review-798.php
In all of those reviews I've been noticing that there are issues not present in retail models. I actually watched a 40min russian review on youtube and they found a lot of problems, including creaking, pen sensor not working correctly and so on. Otherwise, the review was very well done and I tend to trust the reviewer. My feeling is, some of these review units are dodgy, maybe preproduction units.
Yep I went on quite a rant in my response to the review on Android Police Google+ page. I really do not get all the negative reviews of this product.

Thankful
I'm just thankful I bought this tablet before reading reviews.
It's fantastic, im thinking of selling my N7, which I also love.
And yes, I agree the are testing preproduction models.
I just hate that they are missleading people which might have bought it.
I haven't used my computer since I bought this beast, I'm having exactly the same internet experience as my pc.
Without the wait of coming up out if hibernation.
One thing that really annoys me about these reviews is their assumption that HD (Infinity) and QVGA (iPad) are the *norm* now. They aren't - the vast majority of tablets in the 10.1 inch size are still 1280x800.
The reviewer is also a bit confused on some key points.
1. The Note 10.1's battery life is actually not that great. It ranks in around 8.5hrs of continuous use on video loop at 50% brightness. The Prime gets 10.5hrs. It seems what that the Note 10.1 does get right is long standby times which is actually very useful since most of us tend to use tablets in 'bursty' ways - off most of the time, then use for a bit then off for a long time.
2. His complaint about the power cord must come from not realising that Galaxy Tabs (of which the Note is one) can use the same peripherals (mostly) including the synch cable. A little digging and he could find a 6' synch/charge cable.
3. I don't have my Note yet - should be here in a few days - but I've fondled a Tab 2 10.1 and the back felt pretty sturdy. As someone else noted, they may have gotten pre-release units. As for 'everyone using aluminum" not really true. Apple does. Asus does on the Prime and Infinity only - the TF300 doesn't. And aluminum on the Prime is why it sucked... it made the GPS unusable. As for the pen feeling like a hollow rod.. if they'd made it heavier - it would have made the tablet heavier.. and you know what his comment would have been then...
4. NFC. Seriously? The lack of NFC was one of his big buttons? I have NFC on my Galaxy Nexus and it's essentially useless. And not for trying. No one else has NFC, so 'bump' is pointless. I can't use it as a credit card replacement. I can't use it to replace my office ID card. I can't find TecTiles at any store - and no one carries any other kind of NFC tokens. I CAN use it to read my British passport, but that gets kind of dull after a while.
5. Camera. This is one of those 'no way to win' things. Yes, I'd be happier if the Note had a 8MP camera. Yet everyone seems to be happy with the Nexus 7 - which has NO back camera. The back camera for me will be mostly for quicky shots and barcoding. How good is it for that? Wellll.. the reviewer was so wrapped up in not looking bad that he couldn't bring himself to test the camera - which makes him a bad reviewer.
And gee - look - once again a reviewer forgets to test GPS, WiFi and BT.
Having come from the Asus Prime disaster - the fact that almost no one here so far has posted any serious issues with the Note 10 gives me confience that this will be a good tablet.
I couldn't stand reading THST android police article. I had to stop after a while. They don't know what the hell they talking about..lol. they seem very biased. I will admit the grey version doesn't look no where near as good as the white one. I agree with THST they likely received a prproduction unit. My plastic back doesn't flex or is wavy. Plus my device right out the box performed well. They went overboard on bashing this device.
I like ASUS and will say Samsung deserves more credit on this tablet. I'm glad I didn't read the reviews also. I just got it off of reading specs, Watching unboxing videos, and Samsung promo videos on it. Those were enough to catch my interest enough to try it out. A very pleasant experience being my first Samsung tablet I've ever used.
These reviewers are too stuck on ipad3 resolutions now. Now if a tablet doesn't have 1080P or better, they write the display off as subpar. 720P is good enough for me as this display isn't your run of the mill 1280x800 dpslay. They did something with it to make it look better than other tabs with same resolution. Maybe its the color reproduction or whatever but I know this display is one of the better ones I've seen. 720P movies and videos/you tube look great on it.
Going to post my response about this here.

I feel if you dont like something then biased opinions should be left out ans they should not review the product. Samsung has been doing touchwiz for a while now ao what made him think that this tablet would come with stock ui. I don't agree with blogs using there popularity to trash a device. I want buy this because of bad review.
I want check it all by myself.
I seem to remember the Asus Transformer Prime getting excellent reviews when it first came out, go figure. One of the worst tablets I ever owned. :/
The Note 10.1 is the best performing Android tablet I've owned so far, no lag at all, everything is fluid.
When did 1080p on a tablet for android become normal?
acer and asus are there any more with that resolution? cause that article makes it seem that is the normal size lol what a boring read

Haha, me too, I think I spent at least 4 hours today rebutting comments on the article, on Google+, and on reddit. Most reviews miss the point of the Note completely.
Honestly, I think we users of the Note should write our own reviews, especially focusing on how we find the S Pen useful. Like really, we should make an effort to write more balanced reviews of the device and post them on Google+, reddit, etc. and try to clear up some of the misconceptions.
Does anyone else's tablet creak, because mine certainly does not. And I have yet to experience any lag while writing whatsoever, it's as close to real time as I can discern. I also noticed that if you run javascript animations in the browser while multitasking with another app open, they continue in the browser, so it's not an illusion of multitasking by any means. I can even write, with no lag, in S Note, while animations run in the browser.

To be fair, these are the only recent tablets that have come out for $500. I think the point is that at that price they expect a higher resolution, but it's like they expect the S Pen and digitizer to be free, which is incredibly naive.
I think it is good to have a bad review and a good one for the new buyers to find out whats really going on.

I think the point is that the review is bad in that it's incomplete and/or misguided and/or biased, not that it's a negative review. As in, the assessment is not accurate and thus should not be used as a recommendation for or against the device. That's how I feel, anyway.
It's currently not possible for other apps, and I doubt any implementation based on the Touchwiz implementation will happen (that's a crapton of smali hacking) but I have a feeling CM10 will actually incorporate some sort of multitasking, as Cyanogen himself stated that he wanted to incorporate Onskreen Cornerstone, or at least similar functionality, into CM9 way back in February.

Regarding split screen... just step back and think for a short moment... and you will understand that the custom rom developers would need to heavily modify Android itself.
The display of information on the screen is a core os function. Having more than one app simultanously using the screen requires changes in the Android core. Otherweise this featute will be limited to special versions of Android (like TouchWiz) and special app using it. These special version will delay Android updates as they need to be adapted to major Android releases until they work again.
Android was designed for small screens of smartphones controlled with fingers. Starting with HC on tablets, Google should have implemented this, but it obviously did not happen.
And the feature is rarely useable on a normal smartphone...
You mean the same guys who justified the 8GB in a Nexus7 WITHOUT micro-SD card slot:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...-expandable-storage-and-why-its-for-the-best/
Those guys are pure attention-grabbers. Just check the number of comments in that review and compare it against other reviews. They were also *****ing a lot about GS3 menu choice. This is like a bimbo threatening to run naked to grab your attention and get advertisement-clicks in his article.
As I recall the reviewers HATED the Note and it went on to record sales.
You have to undertstand that tech reviewers have a couple disadvantages. Quite often they are reviewing buggy pre-release hardware. Next they tend to be spec nerds. They focus more on pure specs than does the damn thing actually work for people.
Honestly who cares what they say? If I wanted an iPad I would have bought one. Face it, by this time next year everything that is awesome now will suck by comparison.
Sent from my awesome Note 10.1
The most shocking thing in those reviews is "oh, and it has an S Pen, you can take notes with it" like it was less important than for example number of megapixels in the rear camera. Even the positive reviews mostly ignore S Pen.
Actually, when reading the review - I didn't finish it though, too annoying - the picture of one of these little dogs that tend to bark at anybody and everything kept appearing in front of my inner eye ... this Amadeo guy must be one of these short people.
I couldn't care less for NFC. And resolution, oh my. Everything about this was already stated here. I care for the pen. And that works good enough
So it's time for a new phone for me from the Evo 3D. I keep phones for 2 years and I choose phones based upon specs and what I like (didn't get the 3D for the 3D).
I am asking for the best attempt for non bias opinions for which would be the best phone to own for 2 more years.
I would have gotten the Galaxy S4 if it came with the 8 core but since it comes with a quad core at 1.8Ghz over the HTC One's 1.7 that is no longer and issue. With Kernels and OC I'm sure they will both be very stable at 2Ghz which is plenty fast for a phone.
My biggest concerns are the Camera, the sound, screen quality, size and customization.
Camera:
So far I am loving the HTC One's low light camera. If I want a high MP camera then I will use a camera but most of the time I want to take a picture with my phone and it turns out bad it is in low light. So I like to give the +1 to HTC One on camera plus the Zoe feature seems very nice and useful. I will have to wait to see how the two compare and I hope the Galaxy S4 has some samples after it gets announced.
Sound:
I like the amplified speakers on the HTC One, though It doesn't mean the Galaxy S4 isn't going to sound nice. I havn't heard anything about the speakers on the Galaxy S4 so I need to know more about this one to make a decision on which gets the +1.
Screen Quality:
This is a tough one for me, both are probably spectacular and screen size isn't what chooses the +1 on this one for me. I like the quality of the picture more. If anyone sees some good info on this plz post when it comes available.
Size:
I could never own a phone as big as the Note 2. It just isn't pocket friendly and I don't want anything that big. It's great for those who want to mix a tablet with a phone and size isn't an issue, but for me it has to be pocket friendly and not pocket filling. I havn't seen dimensions of the Galaxy S4 on this so I can't decide until that information comes available so please post when available. But from reviews the HTC One looks like it's a good size in the hands.
Customization:
This one is big since It's very fun to do and worth doing. The battery is an issue for me atm because I wouldn't know what to do when it freezes unless there's a reset button that acts like a battery pull (then it's important to how I get to it. If it requires a pin then I have to think how often will I be able to take a pin out and reset it) . For me I don't have to replace batteries in my phone and technology in batteries is increasing and they should last 2 years unless your eating you battery up 2-3 times a day. Mine has always lasted me the day because when it's low I just limit myself.
The SD card isn't really a problem for me because I only own a 32GB version SD card and I will just use it as a USB if I were to get the HTC One or pop it in the Galaxy S4 if I were to get that one. 32GB is plenty for me as I have an IPod for music and don't need a ton of movies on my phone. One of the things the S4 is big about is the scrolling feature, but I'm not sure that is important to me. I also don't care for the new sense and it's focus being live feeds.
If anyone has any input on the categories please let me know. I usually get phones for my parents when I get one for myself too. So far I am leaning towards the HTC One which is why I came here. I just need to know more before I can decide.

How can you decide between something that has not been released yet???

Obviously the best thing to do is wait until the S4 announcement. Read reviews for both phones but don't take them as gospel. Read around for other impressions, watch some videos and if possible see if there are any demo units near you that you can try out.
Otherwise look at both specs and see whats more important for you?
Higher MP camera, removable large battery, MicroSD slot, RGB notification led, 5 inch OLED display? - Go for S4
Better build quality and looks, better low light camera, HTC Sense and Zoe, superior audio output, 4.7 SuperLCD 3 with higher PPI - Go for HTC One.
I have ordered the HTC One, but if the S4 announcement is good and meets what I want then I will definitely be looking to get that.
Yeah you have to wait 2 more days and the s4 will be announced, then you will know the official spec of the s4 which i doubt would be much better than HTC one

When did it become against rules to compare phones based upon one persons needs and that person asks the community for assistance. I know XDA has changed from what made XDA the place to be, but seriously can't see it being that bad.

Sorry, but this fires up the brand bashers and instead of any real help, you'll get only fanboy trolling. This is why it is against the rules

Please read the rules. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2158159
As a comparison thread isn't device-specific by definition, it cant stay on a device forum.
You could make such a thread in Android General if you so wish.
Thread closed.
The All new HTC One (M8) will soon arrive :fingers-crossed:
And you want to talk about it :fingers-crossed:.
But all you could post would be off-topic to HTC One M7 Forum .
So here is the solution: This thread is meant as a catch-all thread for HTC One (M8) related stuff. It is accepted by moderating staff and will be in place until the M8 will get its own forum. Then it will be moved there.
Here is how it will work:
- Only post M8-related stuff here, no comparisons, no off-topic.
- All forum rules of HTC International forums apply
- Post ALL M8 related stuff here. Do not open new threads as they will be closed eventually by moderators.
MOD Edit: Examples of things allowed in this thread:
- Release dates
- Hardware speculation (no comparisons)
- Software speculation (again no comparisons)
- Leaked Pics/Vids
Please stick to these simple things and you will be able to talk about the next big thing without getting your stuff removed or closed.
Cheers guys

Any word on if there will be a Google Play Edition?
Usually how long does a Google Play Edition phone release after the carrier versions?

No answer available yet afaik. But I bet there will be one. And as the One was the first HTC that had a Google Edition, there is no "usually" yet. The "Google Edition" in principle was invented after the One (M7) was released, so I guess this time it won't take long.
Thanks
I'm just curious about two things. Battery life and camera quality. These are the two things that really irked me about my One. SD card looks like it's there but I can manage with 32gb on the phone. I just want a battery that lasts long enough. I see people on here getting 5 hours screen on but only with WIFI and/or having brightness at 0.
As for the camera. I hardly use it since its gone purple and I haven't got a spare phone to send it off. Also the low megapixel count really was an issue when looking at pictures on a PC or TV. Fine for Instagram and Facebook but thats it
Watched viral video of HTC One M8
I found these changes good & bad according to me
GOOD
SD card
Dual rear camera
Big battery
Next level single piece aluminum body
Notification light position & style
Power button placement
BAD
No beats audio (I know mini max was without that & beats gone)
Headphone jack at bottom huh
HTC bezel still there with same size and onscreen button ( developers looks like a fool ) best way make HTC glowing & function as home
Setting no color all white ( this is not 1956 B/W TV )
Some people also expected fingerprint scanner
Back looks more round not good for put on flat surface and use
Some also expected water resistant body

Upgrading to the M8?
What I like: 3 gig of ram, SD800 processor, SD card slot. What I really don't like is the onscreen buttons. I use Nova Launcher and have my M7 configured 6 rows by 7 columns. The 7th row is the dock. But with the M8 it may not be possible to get 6 rows because of the space the onscreen navigation buttons take up. I may not be able determine the number of useable rows until I get the M8 in my hands and install Nova launcher. When you are short on space, the icons will partially cover up the text below the icons. Anyone using Nova launcher have any thoughts on this? Here is my present homescreen :

rumors are 5 UP & 2 UP
But it would be better 13 MP + 5 UP
from HTC One
Got to say from the leaked video everybody seen there's really nothing that's going to make me want to upgrade, I mean to be fair it's last year's hardware and same screen, except camera, i feel the design has taken a step back really only thing I liked was the gunmetal colour, yes it will have bigger battery better camera and be a bit quicker +sd , i suppose what's really annoying me is the on screen button's, just doesn't make sense having on screen and still having the part with the htc logo, was really looking forward to it and all, think I'll be giving it a miss
Yeah I don't know why they messed it up with keeping the HUGE bottom bezel with on screen buttons. Will still probably get one

Another "meh, me too" here. Woohoo - green blink feed . You can see from my list below how many HTC's I've had and also bought for the rest of the family too, son, wife, managed to get HTC as the phone of choice at work too but with the ridiculously slow (and possibly broken) recent update, the complete lack of imgination which has gone into the next model (if indeed that is it in the video), returned units for purple tint this year, I'm gonna have a look around the competition this year and throw some money at them for once. Not good enough htc (from last year and what appears in that video), sorry.
m8
I've got an M8.
If anyone needs something from it's ROM you can PM me.
It's S-OFF. If someone tells me how to backup the current recovery i will try and install TWRP and make a nandroid backup.

Is that bottom bezel really like that or is this just the developer (I know it's there wishful asking lol ). Do the onscreen at least dissappear in the browser ?

I personally won't be getting the M8 at any point. It doesn't really feel like an upgrade and I'm still just as happy with the One as when I got it.
We'll get the Sense 6 update on the M7 pretty quickly anyway + I've got no qualms with my current battery life or camera quality. Even expandable storage isn't something which would make me want to upgrade considering I'm finding 32GB to be enough anyway.
As I said right from the beginning (as can be seen in my review found in my sig), this is the first HTC device I've had and I've definitely been impressed so as long as HTC can keep up with this level of build quality and beast of a phone, I'll surely consider getting more HTC's in the future.

Was really hoping the phone that kid had was a prototype, but it's too genuine and finished looking, and also it looked like he had it for a while too, even though people got to see the m8, that kid and that video ruined it and i think that is the general feeling, I know the phone will be better but it shouldn't be seen like that for the first time, the HTC one was and is a great phone and a more mature and grown up experience, people bashed blinkfeed and the camera but most agree now that blinkfeed brings something different, other companies have tried similar but there not the same, and in fairness the camera is good people expect to much, just look at how popular that selfie at the Oscars was with what 2mp, did anyone say that picture was ****?

The onscreen buttons didn't dissappear while i was browsing. Only on the homescreen, the black bar with the buttons is transparent (see image below).
When the device is locked the three buttons are replaced with an arrow and you can swipe up for google now.
Also, the padlock supports swipe up to unlock, swipe right for blinkfeed and swipe left (for me it does the same as swipe up).

The main thing which got people liking BlinkFeed more was the ability to remove it natively.
Pre-Sense 5.5 I didn't like BlinkFeed and moved it to a different screen until a dev was able to remove it. Within a few days of the update and therefore being able to remove it without flashing anything, I really started to like it and use it much more often.
I understand that HTC wanted to force it upon people so that they'd like it BUT they'd have had more success if they had that feature from launch.

Hate to hear that about the browser. So they made the screen a tad bigger but will actually have less real estate to browse with in actuality. I wish they would have left that part alone. Also the pic can't open?
