The question was posed on an internal forum system at Big Red:
"Any further updates as to when we will be releasing Froyo 2.2 for the Fascinate??"
To which the moderator responded: "Currently preparing to release MR2 (fixes only), FROYO will follow (early next year). The load is too large to put FROYO 2.2 into MR2."
I do not know what build MR2 is, but Big Red simply refers to builds as MRx, where x = the number of builds (read: times) they've updated. So the jump from DH12 to DI01 is considered MR1, this would be MR2. I however assume its DJ05 or even a newer build which has DJ05 and bug fixes that came from that, but we'll have to wait and see.
That being said, the moderator who responded is a VERY technical person and RELAYS actual device issues to all the OEMS on a daily basis. I would take his statements as fact, hes in charge of the internal forums for ALL phones, company wide, its about the most official, strictly technical, non marketing garbage answer you're going to get. Its his job to know this stuff....
Again, where I got it, 'tis none of your concern. I'm just copying and pasting, you do and think as you please.
I can wait till next year.

I'm pretty sure it's already been confirmed that DJ05 has been canned and they've moved on to a newer 2.1 build.
Yeah, we knew all of this about a week ago in IRC. However, folks who don't go there don't, so its good that mexiken posted this.

So did they scrap DJ05 ???? Or did you mean it was known that MR2 is Dec and FroYo is early next year ????

This to me is absolutely ludacris..
"Froyo is going to be available shortly after the release.." 6 months later we still are waiting..
"DJ05 is almost ready for release, just a few weeks away.." 2 months later we are still waiting for this... and now its scrapped? Is it really that difficult for Samsung to release a freaking update to fix our phones?
Granted I am running DJ05 (thanks to everyone here!), but for people who don't run the risk of rooting their phones etc.. its absolute BS! So annoying!

Releasing updates is easy. Releasing updates that pass VZW QC/QA testing on the other hand...

A clueless rep. Who woulda thunk it?
Allow me to cue you in as to why that will not happen.
1. Samsung doesn't want to get sued for all the nonworking docks with jacks out there.
2. Verizon doesn't want to get sued by Samsung if they decide to axe the update, for the same reason.
Samsung should just start "leaking" all these updates so the mod community could test and help them weed out the bugs quicker.
Then agian, that might be what happened with DJ05.

I think all of us here would agree that the dev community is much more responsive and capable than any oem has been. New business model, maybe?
Update: Has anyone seen that the Intercept froyo update is rolling out? Is it just something with the sgs that's preventing updates? It's not just cdma & vzw because the other sgs forums are full of people just as frustrated as we are.

2 things...
First of all, as I understand it, one of the problems with us not being abel to go to FroYo is the file system and its structure and just the underlying layout of the phone in general. If this is the case, how can they possibly fix that over the air, with an update, that doesn't require a complete reboot of the phone (meaning starting over from scratch)? As I understand it, we are hoping the file system changes to something more stable, but will this be possible through an over the air update? That seems really tough and prone to many issues. Maybe I am wrong or simply just don't understand.
Also, I bought this phone because we were promised 2.2 and I am wondering, with it consistently pushed back, at what point can Fascinate users consider a class action law suit for unfulfilled promises? If I had known I was going to be stuck on 2.1 this long, I honestly would have bought an Incredible. At some point they need to be held accountable.
Wow some people seem so upset today. Well I guess you learned your lesson research where you buy your phone from. From what ive read and herd Samsung is notorius for sloppy support. A watched pot never boils. How bout people just live life n have some fun phones arrent everything. Smile did i mention that im drunk at the moment.
Drunk and misled.
Verizon is holding this up by requesting 2.1 bull****.

If you go over to the Captivate forum, many many many people are reporting failed updates, including possible brickage in some instances. There doesn't seem to be a common thread to the failure (root, lagfixed, custom ROM, etc.); it's just widespread and seemingly random. Some people have stock Captivates that won't update successfully, while others have updated rooted phones and maintained root.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say "T-Mobile and Samsung, please take your time and make the Vibrant update perfect."

Not only that, but also if you read AC at all they are planning another OTA for the Epic because the last OTA slowed their 3G speeds waaayyy doownn
That's what I said in the other thread about the update. MAYBE, just maybe T-Mobile held off on the update for the GPS/other fixes just to see how the update did on ATT and Verizon and go from there. I'm not as upset over the fact that we didn't get any update, so I agree with you. Take your time Samsung and T-Mo and make this update awesome and worthy to hold us until 2.2 gets here

Read that tonight too. Other carriers are "Pawns" while T-Mo users wait while the bugs get fixed and the others have to deal with them maybe?
Wonder what this will do to everyone here who have been endlessly complaining about T-Mobile not updating fast enough like all of the other companies.
....Probably nothing now that I think about it.
Maybe T-Mobile is shooting for quality. I just wish they'd tell us about it instead of being super tight lipped. A simple "the update did not meet our QA standards" message would do the job. Saying absolutely nothing is only hurting them. Same for Samsung. Give us a release date for Froyo, even if it's Dec. 27th. They've got nothing to lose since people in the know are already being persuaded to not buy the phone and people not in the know are still going to buy it because of all the pretty colors.
What sucks is, them having to fix this problem is probably only going to slow down the time frame of when we should get our update.
My gfs captivate updated without a problem, I guess shes in the minority though

well let's hope that the update will be bug-free and the update process is not troublesome like bricking our phones..
is it possible that tmobile is not working enough on asking samsung to update our vibrant that's why it is taking a long time for them to update our phone? vibrant is the very first to be released and why is it the last one to get an update?? or is it because there isnt much vibrant users and thus makes samsung less focused on updating it? ughh

Seriously, someone should buy the programmers that work for these vendors an actual phone to test their releases on.
A lot of peole have been wondering if T-Mo/Verizon/ATT test their phones before launch. The only one that's had little issue is Sprints Epic. Samsung pushed for this device to be released in the States, even though people have been complaining about the GPS issues..

What is your best guess on when it will come out?
What makes you hesitant to try it?
I'm going to say it won't come out at all as the minor issues with it will cause VZW to reject it until those issues are fixed, and at that point, they will decide to just incorporate the positives from DJ05 into the Froyo.

Suddenly, Rick Sanchez comes on stage and begins a rant against the Daily Show and we all agree with him that Jon Stewart is a bigot and Sarah Palin should be President. We go to the voting booth and begin to process our votes when we realize that we did not get dressed and the polling place is a strip club with zombie strippers clawing at our junk. Bust out the good old baseball bat and start killing zombies. Just then your mom walks in and catches you masturbating in the bathroom and screams. Mom!!! all I wanted was DJ05!!

No ROMs or updates for this phone will be incredibly worthwhile at ALL until Froyo comes around.
Virtually all of those ROMs out there are just ROMs that I could patch together myself, on my stock Fascinate ROM.
DJ05 offers some improvements, but doesn't really help the big problem(s) of not having Frozen Yogurt on "the fastest phone around".
This is supposed to be a top-of-the-line Android phone, on Verizon.
My HTC Eris sports 2.2. It's a sad time for Android users to be stuck with 2.1 on a beautiful brand new handset like the Fascinate.
Once we get CyanogenMod and other worhtwhile ROMs ported, life will be better.
The point? Waiting for DJ05 is like waiting for 'a few bug fixes' - when we really are holding our breath for Froyo.
I hope it all comes out at once, soon. I'll be saddened and disheartened to go into 2011 without Froyo, when I got this phone to be on the cutting edge. Not on the introductory-android-phone-OS edge.

Woo! More unsubstantiated rumors.
With each failed attempt at guessing a release date, our chances of being correct on the next guess improve, right guys? Guys?
So EA17 means that it was completed on the 17th of January. So either they are clueless how to release this OTA without bricking devices or they are really testing the **** out of this one then. I hope its the latter case.
I feel like Charlie Brown going to kick the football. Surely Lucy won't pull it away again this time...
I think this one will actually be the one, theres already proof with that picture. Now Now, I know that it can be edited, but still, it seems like this date will be the one we were actually waiting for.
I just don't get it.
EA17... so it's already done.
It's not out because it's being tested.
So why is there a release date?
- If they know it's fine, it should be out already.
- If they expect it to fail, then how do they know it will be ready by a certain date?
If I had my way a lot would be different... but I don't understand how/why the final release will not be a build dated maybe a week before the actual release date, a date we will not know until it happens.

It makes perfect sense. They are going to test whatever they release for a while to make sure its polished. The rumor that AC received was probably that IF they dont find any major bugs in this version, it will be released on the 21st.
If they are so sure it's fine, they should release it now...
And if they DO find an issue, they'll disappoint everyone AGAIN.
This is nothing more than predicting the future, and they've been doing it poorly for 6mos now, why does Sprint think they'll get it right this time?
Releasing it at such-and-such date assuming all's well is what they have been doing since August.

Sprint isn't leaking the rumors. It's individuals that work for Sprint who want to give us an idea of when we might expect it (then they find some bugs)... or just douchebags that want to throw out rumors for laughs. Again, Sprint doesn't say when they are releasing updates because that makes them look worse if it's buggy or they don't follow through.

I am running 2.2, it has some issues, but works remarkably well. No FC's, and only slight screen rotation lag. So I can wait for Froyo... I am willing to wait because I want them to fix any and all bugs... Whether that be GPS, keyboard misses, screen rotation, whatever..
I am not a Sprint Lacky, have no stock in the company, but how people can get so emotionally attached to a software upgrade is beyond me. I can only imagine what people will be saying if they released a rushed buggy version.
Those of us that flashed the FroYo DK28 will still get this OTA if/when it comes out, right?

It seems like we're at a cross-road with our devices. Recent issues clearly have lead to unexpected circumstances, yet we're on the horizon of Gingerbread. Though ACS was huge and there were lots of expectations for ING, clearly a different direction is at hand if you jumped on that train. (Please correct me if I'm wrong to members of both organizations, I think many would welcome continuity, if possible.) Many, like myself, don't have an upgrade at hand or a couple hundred to shell out for a new phone and thus still depend on the community. What are some of the plans that people have for the future, devs and users alike? Having recently rooted and flashed SRF, I am not as aware of functionality of all availible platforms and figure I'm not alone.
I wouldn't mind if this becomes a consolidation thread for multiple threads of the same concept.
I figure its not a big deal. Remember, tomorrow is the beginning of the rapture, so no matter what we all only have until October 21 to live. I figure the Epic4g can last me until then fairly well, even if I have to stick with SRF 1.1.

Once CM7 is complete is it pretty much a fully supported OS? I know the Epic needs to "prove itself," apparently.

I believe it would need the full blessing of the CM Team and get official support. But seeing that some of the other Galaxy S variants have received official support, we're not much farther behind.

This device was screwed from the start... neither sprint or Samsung gave a POS about us...
The future of these forums i see Bonsai Team leading the ROM's until CM7 is out 1000%

That has never stopped a piece of electronics from coming to age late. I wonder if this whole race to GB is their way of realizing the hardware capabilities of Samsung versus the number of eligible customers that will convert to a superior device. Remember, this forum is for those on the cutting edge of the device. Some will continue to buy this device based on the fact that they won't have to live through initial release bugs and then join us. Lots of the gruntwork was thankfully done by k0nane before his departure (thanks k0nane!) but it doesn't mean that we have seen our best Moments, to those making that reference.

Yea true we haven't touched what this bad boy is capable of software is so late right now....
but after the E3D what do you see sprint releasing that is upgrade worthy except for a Sammy GS2 variant.....
ill never give those pathetic bastards my $$ again.
So i'd like to get the E3D on release to be a part of it ....IDK
I received a tweet from GalaxySSupport about GB.
@johnnyplaid You have a Fascinate right John? We hope to have some news for you soon! ^Scot
I hope their idea of "soon" is similar to mine. Doubt it though. The EC09 leak seemed pretty stable except for SD card issues. Maybe it is close.
Might be EH09

True but you don't usually hear that from GalaxySSupport though. They usually say they can't speculate or don't have that information. When they finally started talking about Froyo, it was a week or 2 before it was released.

Samsung's support people told continuum users that the update was coming soon for Froyo, and it is still not officially released...
Wrong thread

Froyo vs GB, what's different and new? From using the ASOP GB, I don't see anything difference from usage
I don't think its really the update that matters its the source code. Gingerbread source code = alot more functionality in all GB roms. Correct me if I'm wrong?

If we get an official GB update then JT will likely be able to pull a lot of things from it to fix our issues on VGB/CM7/MIUI such as sensors, call audio, torch, ect... anything that doesn't work right or has issues, if it is fixed in an official release, can probably be fixed from the official release.
Problem is, anybody that has been around with this phone for a while is not even pretending to get their hopes up for an official release. If it ever comes (which is doubtful) then it likely won't be any time soon. Not saying there is no chance, but we willl all be pleasantly surprised if Samsung and Verizon actually released something when they said they would.
I've had this phone since the day it came out. I've followed the promises & rumors, most of which have been rumors that are spread as fact, quickly.
From what I've seen, whenever Samsung has talked about an update, it's because they've finished it and given it to Verizon for testing. Usually around the same time, someone on here or another site gets a leaked version (makes you wonder if they're leaked intentionally and we're used as beta testers). From what I understand, and I could be wrong, Froyo was rejected by Verizon a few times, delaying the update. I don't know if it was a problem with the software itself or the update package, or both. We all knew Froyo was coming because we already had earlier versions, I ran EB01 for quite awhile before ED01.
I don't have any reason to doubt we're getting GB. We've already seen a leaked version, EC09. I tried it and lost an SD card so I see why it wasn't "officially" released.
I could be wrong, but from past experience, if SamsungSSupport is saying they hope to have some news soon, I interpret it as they have given another GB version to Verizon that they hope to be or has been approved by Verizon. After the missed call issues, I expect Verizon to test a little more thorough this time.

Verizon rejected it because Samsung, the greedy jerks they are, wanted verizon to pay them a bunch of money for the "r&d" done to screw it up with touchwiz... if I remember right samsung was asking for way more than any other carriers usually do for updates and so verizon said no.

I heard that rumor too. If I recall, Samsung and Verizon both denied it.
Final version of Froyo was not the leaked ones.

Really. I must've missed that. Oh well......
CONSPIRACYCONSPIRACYCONSPIRACY
After the Froyo fiasco (anyone else contact their April fool?) and working 5+ years in a corporate multi-vendor environment, I find it impossible to pick sides in such situations. These inter-company hangups can usually be resolved via a quick call between executives; consumer demand has little influence in making such things happen.

Exactly. They don't care whether or not we want gingerbread, they have other phones that might make them more money to worry about.
Well, we know they are working on it as we've already seen a leaked version. Hope they release it soon.
Whatever happened to that EH09 leak that supposedly was out?

Apparently it was for the other cdma carriers. I'm keeping an eye out for a ec09 and eh09 merge though.
