So I bought this phone 2 days ago and it was working fine. But it quickly lost its "wow" factor after about 5 hours. I hadn't even installed any softwares on it other than what the dealer put into it, and in less than 24 hours I am already getting pissed at HTC. Oh yes, the phone is great and all, but HTC sucks at making phones.
1) Word completion was working fine in keyboard mode, but after switching to other HTC inputs and then back to keyboard, word completion with keyboard is now DEAD. Not even after a soft restart fixed it.
2) No light to indicate Bluetooth/Wifi switched on
3) No blinking light to indicate phone is running
4) Start menu doesn't have the "Click" sound
5) I can't assign the god damned GPS and footprint button to do something else, what a piece of crap!
6) TouchFLO isn't smart enough to detect if I want to select multiple objects, or if I want to scroll!
7) No option to do a software soft reset
8) Need to open the back cover to do a reset
9) Menu text IS WAY TOO BIG, HTC you blind idiots!
10) The system doesn't come out from standby when I receive an SMS, meaning I have to press the fragile power button to read it.
11) I can't uninstall TouchFLO or any of the other stupid HTC softwares.
12) Manuals were unhelpful.
I already feel like flashing the damn ROM from this phone, get rid of all that stupid HTC crap. Don't get me wrong, the phone looks sleek, display is nice, response is faster than most other Dopod/HTC crap phones, the scroll button is kool, camera quality is good, but it's just so damn annoying. I'm probably going to just give it to my girlfriend, whoever she will be. My Atom Exec still rocks.
Overall rating for this phone: 5.5/10
Apparently the word completion bug seems to be HTC wanting to replace the WM dict with eT9
If anyone has a way of fixing the word completion bug, and the GPS/footprint button assignments, I will be very much obliged.

RE 10) and your device not waking up when you get an SMS. Go to Start, Settings, Sounds & Notifications, then click on the Notifications tab. Tap on the dropdown box next to 'Event', find and select 'Messaging: New SMS', then tick 'Display Message on screen' and hit OK : )
I do agree with most of the complaint. I am very very disappointed with this Cruise 2. I thought it is a smaller size version of the Cruise 1 (Polaris) except faster and more memories. But it is NOT! It has less buttons than Cruise and two of damn buttons are just useless. HTC sucks!

I tried that option, it doesn't work
As a side note, I thought there was no blue LED to indicate Wifi/Bluetooth status, but last night, I saw a brief flash of blue, and then it never happened again. So there's definitely a blue LED there, but it's not used for Wifi/Bluetooth for some reason.
Anyone wanna trade phones with me?

Unless you want to get an older generation phone!
I also have HTC Touch 3G, it also have same annoyances.
First generation HTC phones has infrared, many buttons and LED's, Flash LED(s) for camera. Separate earplugs and power sockets. Metal bodies.
Then:
They took away the infrared, no more camera Flash light.
They cut the number of buttons.
They cut the LED's. Cut all the metal parts except the screws and printed circuit board contacts and copper traces, USB connector case.
They do make the phone smaller, lighter, more functions and more memories.
BTW, HTC have replaced the metal hook for phone string to plastic hook and smaller metal logo plate from Touch 3G to Touch Cruise(09).
I think the next version phone is going to be glassless and metal-less. Case will be just snap-on. The metal logo plate will be just a print on case or a paper sticker. They might attempt to use plastic USB connector. If anything has shorter lifetime, that means they will have better business. That might lead them to put a small timed self-destructive device just beyond the warranty period in the machine. They would love to cut the warranty time from a year to 3 months or better, 30 days. The new Sony laptops already ask customer to pay extra to extend the warranty period from 3 months to a year.
People want green earth but also want everything disposable! What gives?
I thought I'm the only one who's facing the problem of the blue led indicator.
What blue led indicator? There is no blue led indicator afaik...
Or do you mean the "lack of" blue led indicator?
By the way, you resurected a 8 month old thread!
Uranus, with everything you say about the HTC Iolite, I throw it out the window
Incidentally, my Iolite works perfectly and the problem of the dictionary (in Spanish) does not exist.
Regards!!!
I don't think uranus is still around here, his last post on the forum was in april 09... Again this thread is from that timeframe...
Great clarification!!!!
With some time and effort most of these annoyances can be solved or tweaked.....various good ROM's (Billabong) and many many software/tweaks around.....
What I do agree is that Polaris was more robust....but Iolite is better overall.....
In the end you can not produce a phone at reasonable price every-body is happy with.....
FC
i do truly miss a led that indicates that the phone is on
Will this help? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=371278

Update:
Hi fellas,
After over a year, I finally decided to ditch this P.o.S. to my roomie. Things I've managed to fix:
1) Word completion, via a registry tweak in \HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409\
Ime File=\windows\compime.dll
Layout Text =COMP IME
(I am still using this solution today for my HD2 which I flashed on the same day I bought it, I can't stand that HTC interface I got all annoyed at it after 5 minutes LOL)
2 & 3) nueLED is cool, but doesn't work
4) Start menu still doesn't have the "Click" sound
5) I still can't assign the GPS and footprint button to do something else
6) TouchFLO have to be "compromised" with smarter apps.
7) Need to use 3rd party app to do software reset
9) Managed to modify the popup menu text. Still, come on...
\HKLM\System\GWE\Menu\Popup
10) The system still doesn't wake up on sms despite changing the registry key which enables wake up on SMS.
I'm MUCH more happy with S200 in contrast, only problem is the weak vibration.
As I was driving yesterday, I was frantically (and dangerously) trying to type a text message on my Vogue. As you people with phones that have no hard kb, you know how frustrating it can be to type a message, let alone while one is driving. Now I know that it's not safe to text while driving period, but there are certain times when it is necessary. I came across the idea of a D-pad keyboard. You would use the directional pad on the phone to select letters from a keyboard, and then use the center button to select that letter for input. While this would not be fast or efficient typing, this would help greatly to type messages when only one hand is free for driving, or some other activity, as it would give the user an actual button to press. Sadly, I have no programming experience whatsoever. I also don't have a steady source of income, so I cannot guarantee any donations if someone developed this. But maybe if enough people caught on to the idea and liked it, a bounty could be started for someone who developed something like this. I've uploaded some rough mockups of what it might look like.

DONT. TEXT. WHILE. DRIVING. Especially on a touchscreen only phone. Not to mention your mockup would take extremely long to type out one word let alone a message. what you want would be to have multiple slides, first slide you can go either L or R with the full keyboard split in half. pressing L will give you a slide with the letters of q-t, a-g, z-v; R will give you y-p, h-l, b-m. from these slides you can go U, D, and R. U will give you top row of letters, D will give you bottom row of letters, just select will give you middle row and R will give you either number pad or symbol pad. minimum key presses is the key.
You should try the phone keypad, I find it alot easier when driving. Of course I still don't recommend typing while driving . But why I think would be even better is voice feedback. As you press a letter or key on whatever keyboard you're using it would voice the key you pressed then enter the character with a confirmation click sound when you release the keypress.
First off, please stop texting while you're driving. Why can't you just pull over and do it? Why risk your life and other innocent people because you're texting? NOTHING is that important for you that you can't just pull over to the side of the road and do all your texting there. Your idea is unique but pretty useless for your situation as well. It seems it will take a lot longer to move the directional pad and hit enter after the right selection with the middle button on that button decal. At the end, you'll still have to look at your phone while texting. How would you find the defendant if you were one of the juror in a jury, listening to some guy who seriously injured or killed someone because he was texting?
Actually, with an SIP such as TenGO this is an excellent idea.
one day i really needed to text while driving, i started typing.
suddenly i realized that the traffic stopped and i was so close, luckly my breaks could stop me on time.
other wise, i would never be here i guess.
since then, i never touch the phone while driving, the max is picking up the phone using BT Headset.
scary. be carefull, driving is not a game, you cannot load life back if mission failed.

Yes, I understand your experience. And thank you all for all your replies. I'm glad a lot of people are concerned about the safety of all the drivers. However, I also stated that this could primarily be used in OTHER activities in which you only have one hand free or cannot/should not be fully focusing on your phone. I realize the risks of texting while driving, which is why I don't when in any type of traffic. I live in rural Indiana, where most of the times it's a wide open road with fields to the left and right and not a car in sight. I just thought this would be a simple solution if the urgency was presented where someone needed to send a quick text. I also think voice feedback would be helpful. Even better would be speech-to-text + BT headset. That would be the ultimate program for this situation, but I have yet to see anything close developed. Once again, thanks for all the input.

wouldn't be cool if there was a giant reset button.
haha.
I agree with everyone though, don't text while driving.
In most of the states in the US it is actually illegal to do so,
and has quite the hefty fine associated with it.
There was this girl about 6 months to a year ago that was driving down the US 60 (in arizona) and was in the left lane of the highway, and ended up swerving all the way accross every lane of traffic and tboned a parked van on the side of the road that had overheated.
Inside that van were 2 adults, and their 4 children
(2 young teens and 10 and 5 yr old I believe, something around those ages).
All 6, and the girl texting, were killed upon impact.
They found the girl texting gripping her phone (with keyboard slid out) in her hands.
Moral of story, Population control.
JKJKJKJKJKJKJKJKJKJKJK!! I'm goin to h*ll for that one.
But seriously, I don't recommend texting while driving.
TEXTING WHILE DRIVING is good if you have set your vehicle in AUTO PILOT! XDDD
Ahh well, guess the idea is shot down by the community. I really meant it for more purposes other than driving, just thought driving would be one of them even though it's not recommended. I guess I'm just unsuccessfully trying to find some way for efficient, easier input on a touch screen like the Vogue. I have small fingers myself and I have yet to find a quality keyboard that I can get up to speed on. And yes the phonepad is the next best thing if the need arises. Has anyone seen anything close to being capable of speech-to-text? I'm probably dreaming here but that would be an amazing app that could probably make a lot of money
What could surely be possible would be for the 9 buttons available on the d-pad to correspond to a t9 keypad. Press up for abc, up-right for def and so on.
Definetly would like a d-pad keyboard! The more options the better. Check out a psp for reference.

that idea sounds pretty good, except I'm pretty sure on the Vogue, or any other d-pad on a phone, there aren't diagonals (up-right, down-left, etc.) are there? Just up,down.left,right.

A better solution to your texting while driving would be a speech to text software, have a look here. I have not tested it myself yet but it looks interesting and safer than the alternatives. Please don't risk other peoples lives.
And please vote in my poll.
Thanks for the link! I also voted on your topic.
I'd like to compile a list in one thread. Hopefully Samsung + Verizon is reading.
- GPS
Takes longer than usual to acquire a GPS lock when GPS hasn't been used for a while.
- Rotate notification
Notification sound sometimes plays when the phone orientation changes. Typically happens after connecting to USB with debugging enabled.
- Pandora/Radio Time status bar text
Status bar text is in black instead of white; this is an app issue, but still annoying.
- Desk clock app
When docked, there should be an option for the display to automatically change from day time to night time view based on sunrise/sunset. The month is shown as text as well as 2 large digits; the date should be shown as large digits. The current date doesn't update as it should; in the morning, the highlighted date will be yesterday's date.
- Smart Alarm
The Smart Alarm will play a nice calm sound before your alarm. Good idea, but there's no way to snooze it. If you dismiss the Smart Alarm, the normal alarm will never sound. Normal alarm functions properly. Should have an option for 1 min. Smart Alarm.
- Stock Car Dock app
Only launches VZ Navigator (which no one would ever use). Google Maps should be an option (if installed). Must remove stock app and use a Market app to fix.
- Bing
Really?
- Browser bookmarks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795392
Don't pin bookmarks for us. There are ways to get rid of them and we shouldn't have to find those ways to do that. There are 2 Verizon bookmarks that you CAN NOT delete without a workaround.
- Messaging Notification
I like the puzzle piece notification. I would like it even more if it worked with Handcent (or other SMS apps).
- Battery charging
Why does the battery usage drop a few percent right after it's pulled off the charger after a full charge?
- Battery notification
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790908&page=5
Please don't notify that the battery is changed via popup. This is not an iPhone. Use the notification bar so it doesn't illuminate the phone at night while we're sleeping which then causes the battery to drain even more.
- Headphone jack
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786793
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790645
Should be able to distinguish the type of headphone you're plugging in. You can't use the phone mic to talk on the phone when normal headphones (with no mic) are plugged in.
- Dock audio jacks
The home dock states the jack will be functional in 2.2. The car dock didn't have that sticker. Hopefully these work after the update.
- Edit magnification/improved copy + paste
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3190
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794020
Should be able to enter an edit mode to show a magnification window to help determine where your finger is when editing text. This will also improve the copy paste function. There is a feature request open by Android developers for this. Also, I believe HTC has implemented something like this - so should Samsung.
- Navigation volume
Even with Google Navigation volume at max, it is much lower than the other sounds playing through the phone.
- Lag
All Galaxy S models have a "lag" based on the file system Samsung decided to use. A Linux-native file system should be used instead.
- Browser GIF support
Browser does not support animated GIFs
- Dock audio support
Some charging docks state the audio outputs will be supported in 2.2.
- Softkey lights
Softkey lights should stay on while the screen is on (in some cases... or at least optional).
- Incoming call screen locks
Incoming calls lock the screen. Outgoing calls don't. The screen shouldn't lock during calls.
- Stock E-Mail app
Stock e-mail app can't open some attachments (notably PDFs).
- Stock calendar limitations
Overlapping appointments are not handled well; week view does not show detail it should (and is possible the most used view). Does not default to Google calendar.
- Music player auto pause
Music should automatically pause if headphones are unplugged. This feature may be in 2.2.
- Contact sorting
No option to sort contacts by Last Name, First Name
- T9 Dialer default
Love the fact they added a T9 dialer. Hate that it defaults to the first number in the contact's list of phone numbers. It should default to the default number of the contact and/or show all the contact's numbers or all the possibilities of the name/number search query. Is the T9 dialer search function using Bing? (cheap shot)
- Global search button
The global search button usually has options within the Settings menu which should give you the options to search applications, contacts, e-mail, etc. on the phone itself. This option is not present (another Bing limitation maybe?)
- Music player controls
After stopping the music player, the controls will sometimes re-appear unless the player task is killed using a task manager. This has been known to happen after receiving a phone call.
- Phone notification
When in a call, there are 2 phone icons in the notification bar. Maybe one is an Android default and the other is for the super cool phone control from the notification pull-down?
- Call quality
Could be improved
- Daily briefing app
Nice idea, but it's not configurable and has been known to slow down the phone when used as a widget.
- Bloatware
No one likes this stuff. Please give us the ability to uninstall these apps. And follow Google's approach and utilize the Market to update your own stock apps so we don't have to wait for a full system update for app fixes.
- Car dock application after removal from dock
Screen doesn't lock when removing from car dock; screen stays on and will sometimes re-launch the last application (Navigation mostly). The bad part is when you grab the phone to remove it from the dock, you typically press something on the screen or one of the soft keys.
- Text Messaging +1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797001
Texts fail to send when the contact number has +1 in the number field when using stock Messaging app. To fix, edit contacts via G-Mail and re-sync your contacts via your phone.
- Touch screen doesn't work on edges
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798244
When drawing on the screen, the pixels closest to the edge are not displayed.
- Screen burn in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805249
- Auto brightness
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821723
Doesn't work as well as it should. Too bright in the dark, not bright enough (100%) in direct sunlight.
- Signal strength
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782781
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821472
Appears to be lower compared to other phones.
- Wi-fi Notification
When wi-fi network notification is disabled, you still get a notification of wireless networks after disconnecting from a saved network.
- Market Application Update Notifications
Never notified of application updates until the Market app is re-launched.
- Market Downloads
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=815360
Sometimes apps don't download from the Market. I have this problem when wi-fi is enabled. I will verify wi-fi works (using the browser for example), Market downloads sit at "starting," disable wi-fi, Market apps immediately start to download.
- Calendar + Maps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9215536&postcount=49
Calendar doesn't link to map locations.
If you know of a bug not listed, post and I'll try to add to the list.
my fascinate acquires gps lock within seconds. not 30 seconds. not 45 seconds. no more than 15 seconds.
noises when you go from portrait to landscape and back? weird. mine doesn't do that.

6. The phone doesn't come with google maps? I don't remember
7. it is easily fixed if you are rooted, or if you want to get launcher pro
8. it's not hard to delete bookmarks and all phones come with bookmarks that are already there
9. Handcent doesn't tie in with the lockscreen
10. how long have you been charging it? it might not be fully charged
11. it takes maybe half of a second for the screen to lock.

I've been hesitating posting this, because I was afraid of a list of "you're holding it wrong" type of responses. No disrespect, I appreciate your comments and suggestions. I am aware of some of the applications available to work around some issues and other issues we shouldn't have to deal with by rooting the phone. I figured it would be nice if Verizon & Samsung had a list of bugs by a GOOD user community as well as others from this forum who may not be aware of all the issues currently present.
That being said...
1. My GPS works as well, but acquiring a lock isn't as fast as it should be.
2. I use the app Quick Settings. This sound isn't set to the system sounds - it's set to the notifications (same as text messages). Give it a try.
3. Thanks.
4. Still annoying.
5. Thanks I'll give that a try.
6. Google Maps is not installed by default, but the option to change should be there.
7. I like TouchWiz. Rooting should not be a solution.
8. There are 2 Verizon bookmarks which you can not delete without a workaround. They are possible to delete, but not like the others. Give it a try.
9. It would be a nice feature enhancement.
10. Long enough for it to be fully charged. There's a post on it if you search.
11. It's not as fast as it was before the update. To me, it's a bug.
Thanks for your comments, but I think we could all benefit more from contributions. Your #2 was close to a contribution as it's always helpful to learn about new apps - but your solution is incorrect.
Headphone jack needs to be fixed. Its definitely a software issue. The phone should be able to distinguish the type of headphones that are connected cuz other android phones does that.
This is more of android os flaw but I want to be able to select any texts aside from text boxes such as websites and received email just by multi-touch.and I want to be able to drag the cursor along the words I made a typo on rather than continuously attempting to land my fingers between the letters I want to edit.

Phone call lock screen
I've been looking for someone with a similar issue to mine but couldn't find a solution.
If I make an outgoing call for a duration longer than the time my display is set to lock after being idle (1min), I can hang up straight after the call ends. In other words, the display does not lock during an outgoing call. However, when I receive an INCOMING call and speak for a few minutes (e.g. longer than the 1 min display lock timer) at the end of the call I have to unlock the display to get back to the dialer and then end the call.
I would prefer the screen to not be locked after a phone call. Any suggestions?
GPS is an issue as I was stuck in traffic and trying to find another way home and just gave up and relied on my instinct.
The battery has been great for me and it takes an hr or 2 depending on my usage for the battery to move once off the charger.
Everything else has been stated.
Does anyone know how to get into the menu where recovery etc is????? Up+menu+ power ain't working.

This is something someone else on the forum noticed and posted here. I noticed it when I'm looking for it, but it's not something you'd know about unless you were tracking your battery usage with a percentage (as some people have done by replacing the stock battery icon in the taskbar with the circle battery icon that shows the percentage). The issue is that immediately taking it off the charger after a full charge, the battery drops a few percentage... which is just weird.

I've read in the Developer forum that some people (including me so far) have had some success with un-checking VZW location services in the Location & Security menu. I've only had this option set for a day so far, but it seemed to work the one time I used GPS - tracking was instant.
To get to recovery, power down, then hold both volume buttons and power on. I'd suggest checking the Developer forum for more information related to recovery. The current Clockwork button scheme is wacky (once you get to that point - which I haven't).

You can try using Screebl? That keeps your screen on when it's at an angle, but I believe it has some in-call options as well. I've been trying to test this to confirm the bug, and I can only get the screen to lock if I navigate away from the in-call screen.
Screebl Lite:
i switched from a Nexus one to a Fascinate....
What i have noticed is that there is a wierd momentary freezing from time to time...
loading an app or switching screens, or trying to load app list, etc.... it will freeze up for a second or so before doing anything... and at times just freezes completely for about 5-10 seconds without me being able to touch anything or use the back buttons etc.... anyone else having this problem?

This sounds like the infamous "lag" that plagues all of the Galaxy S phones. Most people will root the phone and implement the lag fix to resolve this issue.
Most people ask for an explanation as to why this is. The short of it is Samsung decided to use a file system that couldn't handle multiple read/writes as good as a Linux native file system. Our phones have 2 GB of internal storage for Market apps (located in /data/app). The lag fix creates a 1 GB file formatted as EXT2 (Linux native) within the 2 GB partition. The result is that the phone runs like a bat out of hell, but you only get half as much storage for your apps. For some, 1 GB is enough for their apps. For some, they won't push the phone hard enough to notice the lag.
Pay attention to how Samsung treats the other Galaxy S models (particularly outside the US). It's likely that what they change on those phones will be what'll happen to our phones. If they don't fix it post 2.2, we'll have to keep an eye on the Development area for ROMs which fix this for us.

Yes, this is a very annoying bug; incoming calls do not keep the screen from locking, but outgoing calls do.
Along the same lines; if you use the Music Player at any point during normal use, and exit when you are done, the application exits like it should. But then if you place or receive a phone-call, the music app reappears in your notification bar for no reason.
Very annoying.
How about better copy and paste like the dx? I also can't seem to use the copy and paste inside the email or gmail app.
I would also like it if they could add bluetooth keyboard support and video out through the headphone jack like the galaxy s international version.
That's my wishlist, hope it might be able to come in an update, 2.2?

The copy/paste feature request has been posted on the Android code website, which I doubt everyone knows about. We have to go there and mark each feature request with a star to get it to rank higher in the results list. Hopefully Google will do something about it. HTC and Motorola both implemented their own copy/paste bubble, but I agree that we need one for the Samsung (or for Android in general)!

Does anyone else also have a problem with the handset speaker?
When I'm on a call I get a very annoying reverb of my own voice,
and I can hear A LOT of my own wind noise or extraneous noise that's
being fed to my mic. This is really annoying... I bought a brand new fascinate
but not from verizon.... so I can't get a replacement T~T....

I have this issue as well. Sounds like the speaker is clipping when the volume is higher than 1/2.
There is no simple way to copy paste contact information.
I also hate how android changes the ui when u use the keyboard in landscape mode.

I don't like the call quality at all and it might be a deal breaker. I hear myself like I'm talking through a kazoo. There is a microphone in the ear piece that seems way to sensitive. And you don't believe me open voice recorder and blow by the mic on the bottom an then blow in the ear piece. See. Is there some sort of canceling thing going on during calls with this over sensitive mic? Voice recording from 3 feet away with normal voice renders distortion. Recording a video in a room with people talking leaves audio garbled all to hell.
My omnia i910 sounded like a land line and I miss it. And I work outside and never had any complaints. But with the fascinate after 4 days I been asked. Are you skydiving? You in a hurricane? How windy is it by you? (just a mild breeze). Even walking generates wind noise that is audible on both ends. Will the update fix this? My 30 will be well over before the update. I might just take it back and leave money on credit until update and see if it was fixed. I absolutely love this device. But hate the phone. And the phone is a major part of what I need.
25 days left.
good day.
Title says it all. I will keep it short and sweet.
Upgraded from an OP8. The Oppo definitely feels heavier in the hand and pocket but can attribute this to the ceramic housing. Feels good in the hand, even with the stock case. I did receive the gift pack which had the Kevlar case and that is lovely but the top, bottom and side buttons are exposed to the elements and that has put me off using and I am continuing with the stock case.
Camera - good. Better than the OP8. Better than a Pixel6 Pro? No, almost as good. I am no camera expert so I don't tinker with all the settings, I am more your regular point and shoot user. I rarely shoot video so can't comment much but again no issue, playback is nice and crisp, sharp smooth quality.
Good battery - charges quick, although I'm not convinced the wireless charger is as fast as it claims i.e. 50W.
User experience - this is where I have some gripes. On the whole it is fine and slick and snappy most of the time but...
1. Sometimes there is a moment of freeze/lag/sticks when I have tried to leave an app or switch to another app- not snappy.
2. When I am listening to YouTube via Bluetooth in the car and somebody calls me, the YT playback continues so I hear both the caller and YT. The caller does not hear the YT playback but can hear me. I have tried the various permission settings but no joy.
3. Screen sometimes wakes up with fingerprint. What I mean here is I can place my thumb on the screen and it signs in. However sometimes I have to double tap the screen to wake it up THEN apply my finger to unlock.
4. Power button - does not power down. Have to use volume up and Power button. Not a biggie but quite annoying.
5. No lockdown mode. I badly want this, but again this works in tandem with the power button.
6. No alert slider like the OnePlus range (which I hear is ditching the alert slider which means they will be using and rebranding Oppo hardware going forward). I usually have my phone on vibrate or silent, very rarely on Loud/ringtones. A helpful XDA user advised me to use the vibrate button to switch between silent and vibrate.
7. I use the Podcast Addict app. The player appears in the banner (pull down) even after I have closed the app. Annoying. This did not happen on the OP8, ever.
Appreciate 6 of the 7 above are software issues and this might be a ColorOS thing and needs tidying up. If anyone has answers to the above that can help me, please do let me know.
I like my phone. Is it significantly better than my OP8? No... better camera but on a day to day, that's it. Again this comes down to what people use their phones for. I am not a gamer so the new SD8.1 will be of use to others.
Thanks all
I trust user reviews more than the mainstream glowing it's great reviews...
All Androids need to be optimized to get the best performance. Workarounds need to be found for issues.
Try modifying the notification settings for Pod Addict. For badly behaving apps I will turn off notifications for them completely... or just take out the trash
This setting is useful to kill ads globally:
Hello all!
My Razer Phone 2 stopped charging. This is how my Razer Phone 1 also died, basically the charging port went bad, then worse, then died completely.
Anyway I got the Nothing instead, since price and specs fit me pretty fine.
However I want to change a few things. I might be blind in the settings menu, but I'm hoping you'll still help me!
I got a few points I'd like changed, and no amount of googling helped me here:
1. The phone turns on the screen when I pick it up. But there are often mistakes, and the screen just turns on by itself when I'm walking with it in my hand, or in my pocket. It has happened already a few times, after having for phone for 48 hours, that I have dismissed some notifications because of this. Can I stop this function all together?
2. I can also press the screen once and the screen will turn on. This is also a problem when the phone is in my pocket. On my Razer I had to double tap and it still turned on sometimes in my pocket. I ran the Razer phone with Nova Launcher, maybe I have to change to this launcher from the Nothing one to get this double tap feature?
3. I can turn off the screen by double tapping on the home screen. That is a feature I always use and appreciate. I never put the phone screen down so the lights on the backside won't get used. I always double tap to turn on the screen, check for notifications, and double tap to turn the screen off should there be no notifications. Nothing phone won't turn off the screen with a double tap unless I actually unlock it, so I can't do a quick check for notifications by double tapping and double tapping again. It won't matter if the phone is on a table, but I frequently check notifications and put the phone back to my pocket, and having to go for the screen button is not exactly for me. Do I need Nova Launcher here?
4. I NEVER use sounds on my phone, except for the alarms. When someone calls me while the screen is turned off, the screen turns off and I get vibration. If the screen is on I won't get any vibration from it, only a visual notification which is easy to overlook if I let it sit with the screen on but locked if I just checked notifications. Also I like the feedback in my hands in case I am doing something on the phone. I already missed some calls because of this. Can it be changed?
5. Is it possible to manipulate the glyph on the backside? I found a "secret" setting which makes them light up to the music playing, but that became pretty annoying just after 5 seconds. Are there some basic things you can do with the light? Like making a custom event and then specify how the light should react? Could be something simple like when a call is active the lights come on very dim? Maybe a 3rd party app someone did?
6. The Razer Phone 2 (and 1) has HUGE speakers in the top and bottom, so I have been living with pretty big bezels. The Nothing has the same size but the phone is almost 100% screen. If I need to go to the bottom and press a back button or something, I cannot reach anymore like on the Razer. Is there a way to add some virtual bezels on Android?
7. I really hate this "notch" or "camera bump". It is a bit of the same as number 6, but can I remove it completely, so the top of the screen where the camera is won't be used at all? The whole line, effectively adding more bezel here too.
I am probably picky, but I have used my phone in a specific way for my whole life, and I am not really good with changes. Also I think a phone should adapt to my needs, and I shouldn't adapt to it.
Thanks for reading and hopefully helping
To be honest, sounds like the Nothing Phone isn't the right device for you.
I like to know the answer to question 1 too.

1. There is an option to turn this feature off under Display->Lock Screen called Lift to show lock screen.
2. Don't know, but you should try using the Nova Launcher.
3. Don't know, but you should try using the Nova Launcher.
4. Very niche use case, you can try to search some root methods.
5. There is root app which can control the light you can try that.
6. and 7. There should be some root apps or magisk modules which allows to do that.
To 2: (I dont know if this works on NothingOS since im on Paranoid Android. But both are very near to stock, maybe it works for you or for others.) I disabled that tap to activate setting and am using fingerprint while screen is off. This can also act as a quick look for notifications, for that i tap where the fingerprint reader is really short so it fails to unlock. This way only the always on display shows up for 3-4 seconds.
Nova wont change anything lockscreen related.
To 5: If you have root, time and like playing around with commands and apps, you can try tasker. Since im on Paranoid Android and the glyphs arent really implemented yet, i made a task that fits my needs perfect.
To your other problems: i think too, the phone should adapt to the user. So i suggest you to wait, i guess there will come roms that are way more customizable.
And maybe a pixel would fit your needings better than this phone because there is a big custom rom scene around.
