Starting anything right now would be a waste. The kernel back ports wouldtake forever with our current base. I'm just going to see if I can get it to compile without issues. Not saying we won't see it, but I have way to many other dev projects to do this and support it right now.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

I'm not trying to compile it for the Epic yet, but I need to learn to compile. Epic development sucks, so I'm gonna chip in.

I was only curious. I wanna know if its because no one is working on it because they're working on cm6 or is there really something blocking it.

Its garbage. Its a proof of concept. We had gingerbread booting on the epic like a day after its release, but not in a functional state. Why completely rebuild an OS when you can take what we have and make it as functional as possible. It would be a waste of dev talents to hand build a Frankenstein gingerbread when there is so much else to work on.

It not the end of the world, CM team are working on the nexus s kernel port.

Nexus S 4g kernel:
PROS: Much faster update via google sources we could get ICS on the same day!
Dev can port MIUI, CM7, and many other ROM to the epic because Nexus S 4g kernel like a new nerves in the brain and spine with proper Google standards.
CON (not really a con): no EXT4 why? because it uses MTD partitiion layout and YAFFS2 will be used plus Epic has no internal SDcard so no EXT4 data partition
I am not working on this project.
Link to kernel source: https://github.com/EpicCM/android_kernel_samsung_aries
Update: they hit a wall: <nullghost> still failing on power regulator. can't figure out the proper diffs from aries to fix it.

Why would this version of the Nexus S kernel be any more useful than the already existing one? I'm not trying to argue with you, it just doesn't make sense unless something drastically changed.

Looking for any devs/porters interested in HTC Sense

Hey guys. I have the Nexus S 4G port of HTC Sense. If anyone wants to help port it, post here and I'll PM you it. I shouldn't post the link here though because the dev hasn't released it yet, but QBKing77 gave me a preview copy. I'm trying to port too, but would appreciate any help.
Wats missing on it?
brought to you by my iced out ns4G

Here to Help
Gave up on Sense for the Epic about a month ago...
Saw your post today and instantly send you a PM. Im willing to help in any way possible. Testing, I can help with some Kernel issues if any exist, and most importantly, emotional support for the trial and error process that comes with reconstructing the wheel by converting an entire file system... lol
There is still hope yet for our beloved EPIC 4G!
Also, I have an S2 I dont use so I can help with S2 issues as well.
Waiting patiently for your response!

I honestly know nothing about git and compiling kernels. :/
It probably wouldn't hurt to learn though.

I want to learn to port or make a ROM

So I want to try and learn how ROMs work. Or maybe that's a little bit too much to start with, maybe mods and hacks and stuff. Is there any tutorials on how to start anything that has to do with development that someone has actually used and learned from and worked with him that you can point me out to? Or at least can someone tell me where I should start to be able to learn all that I need to know?
I've done some theming and editing .xml files and decompliling and stuff so its not that I don't know anything, just don't know enough.

Yes young padawan. You have much to learn in the ways of the force.
No disrespect to the OP or anyone else, but if you have to ask how then you aren't ready.
Do some research: take apart zips, find out how things work. Learn about Android as a whole (helps to also learn how 'nix) works also, Android is of course based largely on it), and most importantly trial and error.
The force is strong in this one, I can feel it. But he must complete the trials in order to fully understand the true nature of the force.

AOKP/CNA/Gummy is kinda like Sbrissen mod for touchwiz gingerbread roms on steroids. Like xbox said, the AOSP thing has been done to death on ICS. All we're getting at this point is some pointless fragmentation between the roms.
UBER/Biggorn/Big Goron or whatever name your using these days , I wish you luck with that endeavor. I tried to do my own for a couple months and realized that I was updating it every other day thanks to what was getting merged in on the other roms. Too much of a PITA for me so I went back to theming.
