I am trying to keep the Wi-FI on ALL THE TIME on the snap but it seems like it's disconnecting itself? Everytime this happens the windows live stops signing in and you have to switch windows live ID and log in again. It's a pain in the ass anyone else have a snap know how to keep wi-fi always on?
I went to the wifi power mode and I unchecked the "Auto turn off WLAN if no WLAN or user activities after LCD OFF over" I put power save mode to best battery. I want to be signed in overnight and not get booted?

I changed battery to auto and it seemed to work.
The only problem now is windows messenger if there is a sudden disconnect from wifi, You have to re sync and sign in or else you get stuck on endless login screen.

Yes if WI-FI Disconnects you, and your msn logs off you need to restart device or Go to Windows Live>Menu>Account Options>Switch Account and log in again and it will work, It's a pain, but it's the only way I figured it out to work.
And with WiFi always on with Windows Live signed in your battery life is? Let me guess: 6 hours.

Upgraded to the new 1.60 ROM hoping to cure this annoying problem but if anything its worse.
I turn the phone off and within 5 minutes its turned itself back on for no apparent reason. No notifications or anything. Cant be doing my battery life any good if it keeps switching on

That may be something to do with the way that ActiveSync is set up.
I've had this kind of problem in the past and found that by killing activesync by using a task manager of some variety and changing my 'network' settings that the problem goes away
Please excuse me, im quite a newbie at this xda malarky. My xda also turns its self on randomly since installing 2003. you said change your network settings. How and what do you change them to? I made sure that activsync is turned off, but it doesnt make much difference either way.

My activesync is turned off, but the damned thing keeps turning on. Its sitting in the cradle at present and it turns on every 3-4 minutes!!!

I had this problem with my charger in the car. It is not sufficient to kill the Activesync. You would have to go to the options in the Activesyn menu, go to the new options button in the PC tab (the first one) and there disable the box with the name "Enable PC sync using this connection". This you will have to enable each time you want to sync via the cradle. I don't have the problem in the original cradle, it is only with the thirdparty car charger. I sync via IR or bluetooth and that is always available via the menu in Active Sync.

ActiveSync i can understand when its in the cradle but currently its sitting on my desk and still turning on at random intervals sometimes 30 secs after i switch it off!!!

I have same problem, happens mostly in car but not exclusively.
I get the feeling that it's related to the cellular signal strength and the device loosing or regaining the GSM connection.
San Francisco has several zero or almost zero coverage areas so it's not unusual for a phone to loose and then regain a connection while driving or walking.
I would love this device if it worked as expected but at this moment it is the source of endless frustration.
im also having these problems they are head doing never used to turn itself on as soon as i hard reset it just started to do this now and its annoying me so much

Guys, Check the setting of the ActivSync, most probably you will find a schedule for synchronization is set every certain time. So, you have to switch it to Manual Sync.
I think this should soulve your problem.
Sprite Backup
I too had this problem. For some reason the enabling Sprite Backup battery monitoring and Scheduled Backups caused this. try turning these features off if you have it installed.
I have same problem, its really anoying, have not found a way to stop auto connection even after changing some setting on my computer Activesync & XDAii activesync. I'm guessing theres no way to stop it.
Is there an active sync update available? I'm using 3.7 (build 3083)
For those whose unit turns on by itself, please check:
From your PPC:
Start > ActiveSync > Tools> Options > Mobile Schedule
Make sure all 3 options are set to "Manually".
From your Desktop PC ActiveSync:
Tools > Options > Schedule
Make sure every active options are set to "Manually" as well.
You can manually sync but Activesync still keeps "looking for changes"

Mine can turn itself on almost as soon as i turn it off, its a running battle to get it to turn off and i very rarely win, I have accepted the fact that mine will stay on most of the time now and have a second battery to help me through the day,
I checked all my settings and all mobile schedule settings were on manual and all the active options are set to manual too, so it wasnt those settings causing the problem,
I cant believe the lack of support that O2 are providing, if this was an HP handheld there would have been a fix for each problem as it cropped up within a week as they have done with each of their handhelds
do the people experiancing turn ons have a card in the Sd slot? i do but i notice when the device is off...... put a sd card in and the device turns itself on i only started to notice it turning on when i got my SD card i might take it out tonight and try then?
Yup, i have a card in the slot all the time, took it out for a few hours this morning and it was no different, still kept turning itself on,
I looked a bit deeper into it this morning too,
It seems that i use it, turn it off and it turns back on 13 seconds later, i turn it off again and it turns itself back on again 13 seconds later, so i try to turn it off and the power button has no effect, i have to press it twice to turn it off, then it seems to stay off for at least 30 minutes before going through the exact same sequence again,
I will list all my installed programs a bit later when i have more time, hopefully everone else can do the same (whether you have the problem or not) then we can see if there's a common program that is on all the XDA2's that might be making them turn on and see if its absent from the XDA2's that are fine

Failing that is there any way to stop the phone going into standby and just get some kind of app that will just turn the screen off ?
I remember when I used a nokia 9500 a while back you just closed the phone but it was still connected to the wifi and you would get alerts when someone messaged you via msn.

Still disconnects as far as I can see.
Surely this isnt the first time this has been brought up ? I would have thought that was the bonus of one of these phones, you could be connected when at home to msn constantly ?
Well, the point of standby is to kill anything uneeded (e.g. everything except phone and storage).
What you can do is close the screen, this turns it off, and have it set not to go into standby after however long (power settings). However, wireless chews battery, so you might want toi use it on power.
Have had the phone for about 2 weeks now. I have had the won't wake up from sleep issues 3 times already. Mostly overnight then in the morning won't wake up. Did the Active Sync manual change and shut off active sync was not connected to the charger overnight and in the morning locked up... Strange...
But the real strange thing is the phone loses the User name and password on the My ISP settings... It is truely a completly strange thing!!! For no reason the phone can't make a data connection. No error message nothing just trys for like 1 sec to make a connection then fails and no message nada..
First time it really confused the daylights out of me. Checked the connections and low and behold the username and password were missing. Put them in and voila it worked. Then 1-2 days later they dissapear...
Anyone else seeing this? I am at a complete lose as to how its happening.
I can only think that it may be pocket weather trying to do an update using the connection manager and it hits something it does not like which forces the username and password to be erased... That is the only program trying to get at the internet on its own...
I've had the won't wake from sleep issue a few times, but I've noticed it's only when I leave wifi enabled. At first it was overnight but then I noticed it was only after like 15-30 mins in sleep mode.
As far as it losing gprs settings, that's been fine with me. I had a weird issue where every other soft reset would reset my cleartype in landscape mode reg hack back to the default setting. That's been cleared up by that tweakcl.exe that was posted in another thread.

Today I lost the bond with my BT headset. It was there yesterday working fine and today nothing in the Bluetooth connections... WEIRD!!!

The problem is that Background Data and Sync ignore the wi-fi policy meaning that the settings to disable wi-fi don't actually disable wi-fi, they just block applications from using wi-fi. The OS can still use it and it still drains power.
That basically means you can never disable wi-fi unless you go in and change multiple settings. The wi-fi policy when the screen is off is useless. Any toggle wi-fi widget you put on the page don't work.
Manually refreshing gmail shows 'no connection' - browser wont connect. But the OS can still get your email and download attachments. Relegating any wi-fi policy to a 'user stop function', not a 'data stop function'.
I have a toggle wi-fi widget on my home screen. I have wi-fi toggled off (also shows as off in settings) I *just* saw the widget flick on for a second, then flick back off. That's the Background data/ sync kicking in right there and that's my whole point.
Another point - if you have disabled wi-fi then turn it back on, it should be looking for the router and getting an IP address. It doesn't do that. When you turn it back on all it does is enable applications to connect. Meaning, when you disable it (via settings>disable wi-fi or disable wi-fi policy) all it does is make the software think you're not connected. It doesn't actually disconnect from the router.
It still shows in your routers wireless list (which it shouldn't if it's disconnected) and ping test will fail because it will refuse any incoming/outgoing requests that aren't from the OS (background data / sync)
If you wait for the background data/sync to connect, you can then ping your tablet and it will work. A security issue as far as I'm concerned.

An update. I can confirm that the wi-fi will never turn off for me. I have toggled it off and put it in airplane mode and I will still get email notifications.
Under battery power it even still shows wi-fi as taking 4% even though by all settings it is off.
The gmail application shows 'no connection'. If i refresh it, nothing happens. If i turn the screen off, eventually it will sync/connect and I will get email - even though I also have the wi-fi set to off when the screen is off.
So to sum-up - wi-fi never turns off. Ever.
You can help by testing!

Turn off the screen
From another location, send yourself an email
Wait for notification on your tablet or wait for about 5 minutes

I had to clarify with them that the issue was with the OS/Hardware and it's not software. If the wi-fi is disabled and I can go into gmail and it show 'no connection' and i hit refresh and it wont get email, then open the browser and it tells me I'm not connected, then the software thinks the wi-fi is off.
The problem is that the wi-fi isn't off as far as the OS is concerned. It is still draining power and Background data/ Sync are still able to connect (and/or override your settings). This shouldn't be the case. The wi-fi setting should superseed all other settings. If i set the wi-fi to off, it should be off for everything and not be draining power. To me this means that the disable wi-fi setting doesn't actually disable the wi-fi, it just locks out software from using it... which is *not* disabling it.
Same issue here, have to get a widget to turn of the wifi. How can they oversee such simple things?
Also sometimes the power button just randomly lights up when its in sleep mode, it's a small light but very anoying if it's dark in the room (e.a on your bed stand).
Okay - Good to hear it's not just me then. But not so good in general.
If you're reading this thread, try it out. Set the wi-fi to disabled when the screen is off then email yourself from another computer and wait for the notification on your tablet. Or get a friend to email you a minute or so after you've turned your screen off (with wi-fi disabled on screen off)
You can reset the policy after.
If you get the notification then your wifi didn't disable while the screen is off like the setting is supposed to do.
mine is NOT giving me issues, but I have found that it can take up to 10 minutes for the wifi to go off. I just used ping to test it. In some cases it took a while but did turn off. My battery doesn't really go down at all when in standby with wifi off when screen off.

Hi, I just ran these tests and unfortunately I can't reproduce your results.
When I disable wifi, I don't have any data connection.
As for wifi sleep, I don't know if it's a bug or intentional but it seems to put wifi into an extremely low power mode, but not necessarily disable it or turn it off when using the sleep policy.
As someone mentioned somewhere in this thread, it looks like wifi has some sort of 'cooldown' period until it turns the chip and process off completely.
I have used Wifi sleep and played Pandora and had Pandora play for hours until it finally disconnected.

I updated my tab a few days ago. Now the market looks different but unfortunately I'm facing another irritating problem which I have no clue how to solve.
Every time that I turn off the tab, and let it be idle for 10 minutes, when I turn it back on, the WiFi icon will show no bars - which translates into no internet connectivity. That happens while the WiFi button is still pressed (green in the pop-up menu). In order for the device to connect to the net I need to turn the WiFi OFF and than ON and it works.
I checked the WiFi sleep configuration and they are set to "never turn it off" I also rebooted the device but with no change.
Please let me know what to do... as this thing sometimes just drives me crazy.

Flash a custom rom bro. Otherwise you are stuck with Samsung's awesome bugs. If you don't want to flash a custom rom there isn't really much you can do about it considering you're not rooted. What did you update to? KMP???
I did the regular Samsung update -the latest one that was released a couple of says ago. The problem with rooting is losing the coverage I have for insuring the device... which I'm reluctant to do. I'm sure it has a solution somewhere...
