3G Green/Grey GTalk logout issues? - Nexus S General

Hi everyone,
There seems to be an issue where the Nexus S is losing its "sync" with Google Services (3G and bars going from Green to Gray) 3G continues to work except that each time it goes from green to gray, it logs me out of Google Talk. Google Talk will NOT log back in until the icons turn green once again. It seems to completely ignore the fact that the phone still has a 3G connection. They must be green in order to log in. Has anyone else experienced this? As well as the fluctuation between green and gray? Thanks!

Ya, I had the issue earlier and it seems to fixed itself, give it some time

Same here with icons color

Happening to me as well. Icons go grey and I can't sign in to Talk or install anything from the Market. Reboot usually fixes it; pretty annoying though.

Yeah it seems to be sporadic. It just goes in and out of sync services. Sometimes rebooting works, sometimes it doesn't. Extremely annoying.

I notice it most when switching from 3g to 2g. This is a big P.I.T.A! It's a good thing the NS reboots quickly. But I had much higher expectations from this phone.

Its a constant. Neusance since I'm using it on att

[Q] Full bars w/ 3g but they are grey?

So i was driving today and noticed my map was not updating. I looked at the connection and saw 3G but it was grey. Full bars and even went from 4 to 5 a couple of times....
I turned on airplane mode and turned it off and then i got the same thing but green and all was well.... What causes this? Does the grey bars mean signal but cant connect?

Means that its not connected to the data network. Green does. Same with wifi.
Also something else I noticed ... when on a call I can browse and talk at the same time when on 3G, but not with edge.

I was able to do that on my N1, havent been on the phone enough to try.. I still need to set up my BTHS with my NS...
Thats my next challenge, resetting the Jawbone Icon... ugh... I know its plug in holding power button thing, but I can never get it to work.. .
I remember seeing a video which said the 3g is green only when the phone picks up google voice. Power phone on the 3g bar is white once it detects g/v its green.
The talk and web browse will stop once you loose 3g connection

This is correct. The EDGE network cannot handle data and phone at the same time. Neither can Verizon or Sprint, until they go to LTE.

Signal bars and 3G indicator

I have a question, Some times my Signal bars and 3G indicator are green and all works well. Other times they are Gray and things start happening, for example it keeps telling me it cannot authorize Google Talk. I can still connect to the internet and everything but just not sure why the Google Talk thing stops working.
This also happens when I am on WiFi in my house. Some times it will be green and other times it will be gray.
Any advice would be helpful
Thanks

i believe that they are green when they are connected to google services i was reading about it on the forum the other night.
i am sure thats the reason, if not then someone please correct me as i pick mine up tomorrow
I'm having this problem too. Mostly when switching from 3g to 2g. I believe what is happening is the data is dropping out. When data/wifi are green you are connected and all is well. The grey means it is not working. I cant figure out why I have the problem switching between 2g AND 3g. That is bugging the crap outta me. My Vibrant does it with no problems, the Nexus s not so much. Dont know if this is related only to gingerbread or the phone. Usually a reboot takes care of this, and a reboot doesnt take long on the Nexus S. But like the girlfriend says, "all that money for this phone and it doesnt work right?"
Yea mine were all grey until I added my google account info and synced up. Now they seem to be perm green.

I dont know if I agree with that. On my device when its grey it doesnt even connect to a web page or anything that uses data. This is just my observation.

Thanks stevo.
I was under the impression they were green when a connection was active, gray when idle. Don't have an S yet though, so can't confirm, but I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere (probably on here).

[Q] [CM7]Data icons, Signal Bars turning white? **POLL**

As the title says, How many of you are experiencing issues where your data icon and signal bars turn white? ie: instead of being theme color - green or cyan they turn white very often and it looses sync with google apps ie: chrome to phone, Gmail.
it is kind of annoying as gmail isn't working as push email no more unless it icons are green.
same issue is present with nightly #39
For your gmail to refresh go into manage applications> Gmail> Clear data/ cache.
And I've noticed that when the bars aren't green it's cuz the connection isn't as strong. They turn green when I have a good connection.

i strongly disagree, i know for a fact where my phone is at it has strong 4g connection all the time. and it still goes white and looses Google sync.
and as far as my gmail not syncing it only happens when icons are white. white they are green it syncs on its own.
That's because when it's green, it means it has a connection to Google's sync services, and when it's white it doesn't. This was implemented in Gingerbread.

That.
That's all it means. Nothing else. No weak signal. Just means you are synchronized with Google.

[Q] Google Talk shows everyone as offline, but not all the time

Me and my girlfriend both got a Nexus 4 a month ago and that was when the problems started:
Google talk shows a greyed out contact list a lot of the times, and other times it works as it should. I also see that when Google talk is working fine on my phone that sometimes my girlfriend goes offline, while she is in the same room as me and nothing has changed. Clearing the app's data, rebooting the phone, toggling airplane mode and signing in and out from google talk don't fix the problem. And even when we both are showing as online, sometimes when a message is sent, it gets delivered after a few minutes instead of right away.
Strange thing is that on other moments it justs works nice and fast.
An extra thing to mention is that in Whatsapp during that same time that Google Talk fails to work, messages get delivered really slow. I see my phone sends them to the Whatsapp server succesfully, but the delivery on the other phone can take 5 minutes or more.
Does this sound familiar?

Sounds like you're randomly losing data connection. Are your signal bars blue or grey during this issue?

The signal bars are blue and my internet connection seems to work at those times. That's the strange thing
I've done some more investigation when Google talk showed my girlfriend as offline a few minutes ago. The signal bars where fully blue and other applications that required an internet connection worked as the should. When I called my girlfriend the phone ringed immediately and it all worked good.

[Nexus 4] Network Signal goes complete gray just a few second after a call

Observed this on my Nexus 4:
Whenever a call finishes, the network signal goes complete gray for a few seconds (about 5 seconds after the call) before returning back to normal again in a few seconds. During this grayed out period the call doesn't reach the phone (obvious).
This happens even for a rejected call.
Seems major flaw in basic functionality!
Anyone else observed this? give it a try! just after attending a call observe the network strength signal for few seconds.
It will become completely gray then in few seconds it will become empty/black again it will turn to complete gray before returning to normal again.

hoping this is a software flaw and not hardware.

It's not a defect. The color of the bars signify two different things. The signify the connection to Google servers. When it's gray, your phone lost connection to the servers but it's not biggie it'll reconnect like you just said. As of course blue means it's connected to Google's servers.

It is NOT related to Google servers. Google comes into play when I am connected to internet which I am not.
No blue bars here. Just White Gray and black (empty). This happening after every call is a biggie in my opinion because during those 10-15 second phone remains out of reach of network.

I'm facing the exact same problem. If anyone can provide a solution it would be great. Been using my phone for the past few weeks, except for this problem I'm very happy with the phone.
It's got nothing to do with Google servers..
I'm assuming you have a 2G data plan..
Since calls are routed thro 2g..the data switches off during calls and hence gray.. Check it using a 3g plan.. Or when connected to wifi.. I had the problem.. Then I knew it was how it was built to work.. Cheers..

I'm talking about normal mobile calls, once i make the call & hangup (or when i receive the call & hangup) the network will not be available for few seconds & it would automatically come back again. During that time when someone calls, they would get a message that either the mobile is switched off or not reachable. So it is not about 2g or 3g...
No clue bro.. I haven't faced that till date.. Or at least.. I haven't checked it that way..
