EVO with Pocket, I got internet working too. - EVO 4G General

I have question and please don't bash me. I know there are many people that have a EVO and I know some people have it with Pocket. My girlfriend has a pocket EVO which cost me $450 flashed. The internet, 3G, works perfect.
Someone help me with this. If I root the phone, which should be cake, can I dump the rom including the radio? I'm assuming what this pocket store owner did to get the phone working is flash a pocket radio. Would someone be able to extract only the radio from the dump so others can flash their own EVO to work with Pocket and have the internet working? I know most Pocket stores will charge you about $40 to make the EVO work for pocket including the 3G internet. I also have a copy of the APN's for the EVO which is an xlm file.
Another question.
If I root the phone and flash the cyanogen rom will it still work with pocket after I change the APN's back to the pocket?
Customs roms don't flash a radio, just the rom and APN's correct?

Some roms work on other networks, some don't. Cyanogen mod doesn't work on Revol(cricket), but the Echo HD rom works fine.

What can I do with an non Activatable Titan.

I got my titan about a week ago from ebay. And after a week of dealing with sprint to get it activated they told me it can't be activated in the system but luckily I had called before I purchased my phone to confirm the ESN was good and they reassured me it was so there going to send me a replacement titan. They told me I don't need to return my phone so basically I have an extra phone that can't be connected on sprint.
So how can I make this a productive phone with out cellular coverage and is there a way to lock the phone from placing calls?

well, it has WiFi, so you can use it as a mini internet tablet around the house, you could use it to stream music wirelessly from your PC, watch youtube vids, use it as a regular PDA or even use it to test custom ROMs
i thought it was possible to change the esn to a 6700 or another 6800... that would give you a working sprint phone to use..
Use it as a dedicated GPS, just need an app that has the maps on the phone already.
Thanx for the ideas, I was thinking of trying android on it.
Sell it for parts - They are going around ~100+ for bad esn phones. Would help pay for the working one.

So is there an Android ROM for the Titan somewhere?
I ran got a copy of it in this website
http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/
you unzip it to your sd card and run the exe file. I was disappointed since it runs on ram so its slooow and buggy but its worth looking at.
Flash it to Cricket then sell it. Cricket excepts bad ESNs. Or sell it to me.
limitless possibilities
1. it has wi-fi, so you have all the net
2. if you don't have wireless, you can use the new mogul as a wi-fi router, and you will have internet etc. which can all be run thru blue tooth. I am currently doing this with my working titan and an old blue angel. Really sweet!!!!!
3. it uses micro SD cards which are now cheaper than dirt. You can load Music galore and stream out thru BT, my wife is an avid reader and you can load a hell of a lot of books onto a 1-2G card
It can do damn near everything except make an independent phone call. You could probably VOIP it too.
Enjoy the free toy!!
Why can't it be activated? Is it on the bad list, if so that can sometimes be removed.
Without a network connection you wont get aGPS so no chance of instant gps lock. But it will still function reasonably well as a gps after you get a lock. I would recommend installing quickgps and htc gps tool and use it as a gps device (along with a off network gps program such as TomTom Nav, iNav, GarminXT etc.
It could also be a reasonable MP3/vid player but a lot bulkier than purpose built devices.
I like the idea of using it as a mini tablet pc and buy yourself on of those full size bluetooth keyboards (the virtual keyboard I mean, not the actual one).
Android hacking would be fun too.
I had the same problem, but I couldn't activate it because it wasn't a sprint phone...being with GSM I didn't know about that stupid rule.
so, I just flashed it with a cooked rom and sold it to someone with sprint.
Cut my losses, bought for 200 sold for 200...Never been so glad to get rid of a phone in my life.
VIOP
i didnt see anyone mention it...

I would offer to send it to the guy developing the vogue port of Android so that he can have a titan to develop with which could help out the effort of getting Android on our devices and finally get rid of WinMo which is just bleh.
Thanx for all the input, I ended up selling it on ebay. I just couldn't see my self carrying 2 titans at the same time.
By the way is there a way to make the sprint mogul work on the nextel network? I'm already planing on moving to the touch pro but I dislike my work phone Nextel motorola i580 (the worst phone i've ever used). I know there is a way to put a sim card reader on the mogul but I also know that nextel uses iden instead of cdma.

Using TMO Android data package on the HD2? (Updated and Answered!)

Hey all, Well thought I would ask, havent tried it yet.. since I am too lazy to take my sim outta my G1 heh. I know when Tmobile changed me to the smartphone internet package, my G1 internet died. However I know people who have the Android package, can use settings like internet2.voicestream.com and get internet still.
So I am wondering does the HD2 work fully with the Android data package? Any features that wouldnt work? Ill prob try it myself over the weekend, but I plan to still use my G1 as my main device.
*Ok I just said hell with it, tried it myself. YES IT WORKS! So if you have a Android phone, keep using THAT data package. This way when you put your simcard in the HD2 you can use ALL features and YES in 3G! I was able to browse, mobitv, youtube, email, gmail push etc! All of it worked! So forget using the Smartphone package which WILL cut your G1 (Or similar) internet off. Keep the Android one and be able to use all internet no matter WHICH device you plug into! =D
Oh and the Wifi Router mode works too.
I'd be interested in this as well. Since I want to do some comparisons between the G1 and HD2.
i have my android internet on the Hd2 also didnt change anything and is running fine.
According to my plan I'm on Android (not sure why because it was the smartphone plan when I bought it) and it is working fine. This may just be a glitch in their system that is showing it that way since I'm still in the middle of a billing cycle that was mostly android.
Updated 1st post, It works. =D
i had to have them switch plans as android data did NOT work for my hd2. odd.
Well they had to switch me to the smart phone one when I upgraded, Then my G1 stopped, Then I called back to have them switch me back to the Android one, then today when I tried, yes it worked on my HD2, I activated my MobiTV, then tested everything, Now I put simcard back in my G1 (Since thats my main) but since Mobitv is activated, I can controll and use everything via Wifi. I plan to use my HD2 more as a pocket pc vs a phone.. Since my G1 can wifi tether to it too for on the go web. =D
Mysticales, I'm about try my Android plan with my HD2. I had them change it back earlier to get some data on my G1. If it works I won't have to ask them to change it back.
update: It works for me as well.

What exactly does a ported rom mean?

Hey guys, I'm new here but I have some (nooby) questions. I'm currently using an iphone to tether my laptop using web2go from t-mobile. I got a g1 from someone and of course rooted and started tinkering with it so that I could get web2go to work on the g1.
My question mainly is if I port over say another android based os, like the droid eris os that is available, does that change the way the phone interacts with t mobile? Or would t-mobile still recognize the internal imei and not care about the os and settings? I'm mainly asking if I can port over another os onto the g1 so I can tether like I currently do.
I know there will be the people who say just buy the more expensive plans, but if I could I would. I'm tethering with these phones because I can't afford real internet!
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
Tmobile will recognize the IMEI although I have used the wireless and wifi tether's both and not had a problem on Tmo.
wait you use the 9.99 web2go? What settings do you use? Because whenever I try it has trouble "finding internet connection" or whatever. although technically the internet should still be coming through right? It's just being subverted by the g1's software that requires the higher tier services?
If its rooted, just use the wireless tether app. You can find the link here and put it on your SD card. Download Linda file manager from the market and use it to install the tether apk. From there, you will change your phones 3G or Edge signal into a wifi one that your laptop can use. You can use that on any rom, and it doesn't matter wether its droid eris or stock. The only thing that tmobile can see is your imei and your radio version, not the rom.
ok I will try this tomorrow and get back to you. Thanks for all the help
well I tried it real quick right now and I guess I forgot to make clear whats going on. When using the G1 as opposed to the iphone, the web2go subscription gets subverted. So while web2go works with a proxy on the iphone, on the G1 it does nothing.
I have the tools to tether except the G1 / T-mobile subvert the internet. I wanted to know if this was based on imei or on a software lock. Because I have heard of people using their G1's with web2go I'm assuming it's a software lock. So if I use a rom of an os that can run web2go, will I be able to use it? or will the imei lock it out?

there's only really two different os versions. well, more, but two popular ones. 1.6 (donut) and 2.1 (eclair). does the g1 have a data plan? does it even have 3g? you say you just got it, so if you don't have 3g, there's nothing to tether. as for it not working - if you're rooted it will work. there's also a app on the market (for now) called easy tether. just use the free version.
edit: read top post more clearly - no. you can't tether if you don't have 3g. if you can, it's new to me.
one more edit: you can do what my friend did - take an old satellite dish, hardwire it to a router, and just connect a lot of wire clothes hangers to the satellite's receptor or.. er... thingy and steal wifi for like miles. ha ha.
The thing is web2go is a data plan that can access unlimited 3g through a proxy. T mobile wants users to use their strict g1 data plan, so any other data plans get shut off. I'm wondering if it's imei or software. If its a software lock then I can just install a different rom I'm guessing.
When I tether with the same data plan on my iphone i get edge speeds, the main reason i want to get the g1 working is so i can get the 3g speeds
Ok, then try this. Go to the tmobile.com website, sign in using your number and password (or create an account). When you get to the screen that shows you a picture of your phone, select the option right under the picture that says not my phone, then select any other 3G capable, non android device. That should put you in the clear for a few hours/days/weeks/months, or whenever they decide to check your account.
Ok I tried it but it still didn't work. I'm starting to think it might be the g1 software which is helping shut off the Internet. I'm going to install a new rom and hopefully I'll be able to set the settings for t mobile. Will keep u guys posted

[RESOLVED][Q] Has anyone successfully used (T-Mobile) Wifi Calling on a MyTouch 3G?

I was wondering if anyone has actually successfully gotten WiFi Calling working on a MyTouch 3G or similar. (I have a Magic 32B, original, not 3.5mm or fender or 32A, but I think those and even a G1 are similar enough that I would be happy to try the same combo if you have it working on one of those). I've been searching for a while and the only thread I found with any real discussion is this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846685
As far as I can tell from that thread, the OP claimed he had it working but the video is down now, maybe one or 2 other people thought they might have it working but weren't sure, and most were stuck at "Enabling..." which is where I'm at.
I do have T-Mobile US, and WiFi Calling does work on my MyTouch 4G with the same SIM, but I would like to also get it working on my MyTouch 3G. (I feel the need to say this because in the other thread some people thought those who couldn't get it to work didn't have the right carrier or know what WiFi Calling is and were trying to get calls without a plan or something).
Right now I'm trying on GingerYoshi 1.5 but am open to any and all ROM/kernel combos (including stock/non-rooted and even old Android versions) that might get it to work as that's my primary usage goal for this phone.
And just to clarify, I am aware of alternatives like Google Voice, SIP, etc. and I might have to consider those if I have no other options, but right now I am trying to get the T-Mobile Wifi Calling/UMA working if possible.
Thanks!
Success!* I'll try to update this with details, but wanted to post a quick update in case I forget to do the detailed one or put it off too long. Basically, I went exploring in the G1 forum and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224658
I spent a lot of time trying to get it to work with my then-current ROM (GingerYoshi) but eventually gave up (in retrospect there were other things I could've tried, I'm not sure I was setting permissions right etc. since I was just pushing files from the package and not installing from recovery).
Then I found out by browsing the thread that Froyo Laszlo ROM works fine on the MyTouch 3G (and has lots of people in the thread doing that)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929678
So basically, make sure you have the right radio and hboot (listed at the top of the Laszlo thread, I found a good instructions thread linked from GingerYoshi back when I installed it), appropriate recovery (AmonRA ... before I installed GingerYoshi I was still on some ancient Cyanogen with an ancient CM Recovery) then SuperWipe (search, I only learned about it in the past few days), flash Laszlo. I would let Laszlo boot before installing the wifi calling package. Then once you've tested that Laszlo works, go back to recovery and flash the wifi calling zip.
Ok, this actually turned out to be more complete than I had planned, so I probably won't change much. Let me know if you need any clarifications about my process! (I'm not an Android expert so I probably can't help debug too much... but happy to try or at least explain better how I got it working)
Remember that my primary goal was wifi calling, so as tempting as it is I don't plan to spend much or any time trying to get this to work on a different ROM myself.
Thanks to all Android hackers and especially Cyanogen, Laszlo, and socioking!
*I've only used this for one call, and before I succeeded I got sudden hard reboots on accessing WiFi Settings twice, so I'm not sure how stable the wifi stuff is. I'll see if I can update later with more experience but I just wanted to point this out so you don't get discouraged if you see the wifi hard reboot a few times... it doesn't happen every time. If it keeps happening frequently I think I'll try putting the Laszlo stock wifi.ko back instead of the one from the zip and see what that does.
I recently switched to a prepaid t-mobile account ($15/month for unlimited texts, 10c a minute for calls, no data) wifi calls would be awsome! There's no extra charges for this right? Let me know how this works for you and I may consider it!

I'm honestly not sure how billing works for pre-paid. For standard (post-paid) accounts it used to deduct from plan minutes but they changed it a while ago (~9 months) to not deduct or charge (beyond your regular plan cost). You may want to google around for more info on that. -- see update below
I'm not going to be the one using the phone but I'll try to remember to get updates and pass them along. (I'm subscribed to this thread so you can post here if I forget to update)
Edit to add: unfortunately from my quick searching it seems that for prepaid it does charge at the same rate as regular calls, so this is probably not going to be useful for you if you're only looking to save money. (My primary reason for pursuing it was poor coverage...)

HTC One (M7) Flashed to Cricket

I have a HTC One (M7) Flashed to cricket. They told me not to update the device because it would get rid of the flash and not work properly. This morning however while i was asleep I managed to update the device. I have tried it and it seems like everything works properly except for YouTube and MMS. GPS still works, and all other network related apps seem to work just fine. I am planing on taking it back to get flashed again. However another update appeared. Is it safe for me to update? Wont be a couple of weeks until I can flash it again, and I do rely on the network on my phone. What I would like to know is: 1)Is there a way i can get MMS and YouTube working properly again? 2)Can I update my phone and still have the data working until I can flash the phone again? Thanks for any help anyone may bring.
Cricket
I also use an HTC one m7 on cricket. Tmo branded I recently switched jobs and an now having trouble with the data in certain areas of the building. Sucks because my HTC desire 510 can get signal in the trouble spots. I'm attempting to flash a slew of different radios and I will post back what I find out
