Like the title states, I have had my epic for about 2 months now, decided to try to root it. The problem is when i set up debugging mode it wont fully install the drivers or connect to my computer( i have tried on a 32 bit net book and a 64 bit desktop both running win 7).
I called samsung to see if maybe i missed something with drivers etc. they baasically told me "ya its supposed to be that way so you cannot root it". Now i know its possible and i have to be missing something.
Any help is appreicated.
Thanks in advance!

ok, I'm not really a noob but I'm having a horrible time w/ drivers for my Epic.
I had almost a 3 or 4 day long project to get drivers to load and work for my samsung moment..
I have uninstalled them and am now trying to get drivers to install and work for my Epic so that I can 'one click root' and install clockwork mod recovery.
My dilemma is, the drivers that are available here for the Epic seem to install fine. After I restart the computer, I put the phone in USB debug mode, then plug it in.
The drivers attempt to install, the computer recognizes the "Samsung SPH-D700" but in the right side of the window it says "failed"...
been trying all weekend to get this working.
I'm using Win7 64bit Ultimate FWIW..
When I had this problem w/ my samsung moment, Part of the culprit was the USB cable so i ran down to radio shack and purchased a $20 cable out of necessity. I'm using that same cable as well. The one that came with the phone is at work and unavailable at this time.
Thanks for the help

I had better luck with these drivers in xp than the other two that were "confirmed" working. They worked once, then I removed them and reinstalled moment flashing software, then removed that and tried reinstalling the drivers. It wasn't working. There was something on the phone the drivers wasn't recognising. I flushed them out and installed the link above and it worked like a champ. I don't know if you'll have any luck with 64bit os. It's worth a try. Also, did you try changing to a different usb port?
Yeah I tried using different USB pets and no luck.
Are you using the stock cable that came with the phone ?
I'll try the drivers from the link you posted and report back. I can always run then in compatibility mode if need be.
Thanks.

Ive tried the one that comes with the evo. It's flaky but sometimes works. The one that usually always works, don't know where the epuc one is, is the over prices official one at a corporate sprint store.
So I want to root my phone, but I cannot get ANY computer to recognize the phone when it is in either download mode, or debug mode.
I'm running Sprints stock EB13 right now.
I've downloaded the samsung drivers and installed them.
I've tried 3 computers -- A XP 32bit, a vista 64bit, and a 7 64bit system. I've also tried 3 different cables. Nothing works.
The phone is recognized fine in mass storage mode.
Tried restarting the phone many times, removing the battery, etc.. same with the computer side of things.
I'm out of ideas to try and can't find a good post with a fix.
Thanks for any input!

I wanted to use Odin to go back to DI18 at first. After that didn't work I tried ADB in debug mode, and that no longer works!
I know ADB in debug mode used to work when I was on DI18 because I used it before when I first got my phone. Now I've upgraded to EB13 from the file samsung provided on their website. I've also tried a hard re-set of the phone and that didn't help either.
I had a similar issue. I was able to resolve it by creating a fresh user in windows and then running it from there.

I had this exact problem with my Epic also. I tried rooting my fone too, for like 2 months straight, with no luck... Tried every technique, software, and trick in the book and nothing worked...
2 days ago though, I finally rooted it using this solution:
Forget about trying to "root" it.
Instead, flash the "Stock EB13 Deodexed EXT4 + CW 3.0.0.6" to your fone (search the forum, you'll find it and the thread that explains how to do it).
It's pre-rooted too!
It worked fabulous for me. I am now rooted and well on my way to fully customizing my fone.
Odin is finicky though... I had to switch the usb cord around to several different ports before it recognized my fone. Also, it kept locking up at a certain point in the flashing process, but after moving the image from "Phone" to "PDA" (you'll know what these are once you open up Odin), it worked brilliantly.
Try it, it works!
P.S. Just in case this helps anyone; I should note that originally I upgraded from Eclair to the official unrooted straight from Samsung (before they pulled it) stock Froyo. I loved it, but wanted it rooted.
I read somewhere that it was easier to root it if you reverted back to Eclair first. So I did (search forum for uninstalling Froyo).
And from Eclair, I flashed to the above mentioned rooted and deodexed version of Froyo (EB13).
Hope it helps!

Might try looking at the usb on the phone to check for something preventing a good connection; I've read where people have found bent connectors and were able to fix it.
Good luck; that has to be extremely frustrating.
I tried everything like you, multiple cables, multiple computers, EVERYTHING!!!
I finally broke down and took it to sprint and they couldnt even get it to connect or fix the problem so i got a new epic. You might just want to take it back and get another one. Im on my 3rd epic now so that should tell you something about these ****TY phones...

What do you mean by "it won't connect to my pc."
Does the phone boot into any mode? normal, recovery, download?
Does the pc recognize the phone at all?
I am assuming you have drivers installed on your pc.
Need more information on what problem you are experiencing. If you are able to get the phone to boot up and the pc won't recognize the phone, ie recognizes it as an unknown device in device manager, then you probably have the wrong drivers installed or have remnants of old drivers on your machine, which need to be cleaned out via regedit.
Anyway, this gets lengthy, however, if you can provide more information on the exact problem you are having I am sure someone can help.
Just as an example, I have an XP machine with proper drivers and the phone is always recognized after a normal boot. I have sdk on the machine at can utilize it with no problem. Until I need Odin and Download mode. Odin has nothing to do with it, the computer just drops the phone like a brick when you enter download. I walk across the office plug it into my laptop with Windows 7 flash up Odin and boom YELLOW. Back to stock. You will hear it both ways XP fails try Win 7 and viceversa.
But need more information to start.

my girlfriend owns a gt540 it was locked by her carrier provider and she decided to have it unlocked with her friend(who i dont think knows anything about android stuff) now her phone does not have a " Android Market" anymore and to make matter worst it does not have a "File Manager" as well. I really want to help her please she is still on 1.6 dough. i have already downloaded android market.apk but since doesnt have file manager i cant install it. what can i do?
I own a samsung galaxy s and i know how to fash my toy we have CWM where i can flash my zip file where can i get a tutorial in installing cwm?
TIA
i tried download mode does not work only showing emergency mode and when i inserted usb chord doesnt even show it was installed all it is saying is driver installing
firmware: 1.6
kernel: [email protected]#1
Software version: gt540-v10c
please i need help
i have used this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042639but when updating it says phone not found whta have i done wrong?please any one help me
go to settings, applications, development, and find and enable usb debugging. you'll need to find yourself the adb.exe executable from the android sdk. google it. once you have it, put the filemanager.apk, or whatever you have in its folder, connect the phone(it should say usb debugging connected), and run the adb executable w/ parameters as follows "adb install filemanagerml.apk", substituting the last bit for whatever program you have. that's it off the top of my mind, I'm going to bed. good luck.

RESOLVED hell yeah
I have a galaxy s4 sph-l720. The phone will not connect to mobilego or kies over usb no matter if it is on the stock rom, custom-stock rom or a fully custom rom that has nothing to do with samsung. I have usb debugging enabled of course, tried using different cables and ports on the computer. I can connect to the phone in command prompt using adb and usb storage which makes me scratch my head in confusion of what could be going wrong. I am almost to the end of my rope with this and in hope came here for my last plee for help. I will answer any questions you all might have. Thank you - Jason.

I've done that probably 10 times now lol
I'm glad to have found out that it is something wrong with the computer and not the phone. It just worked with my laptop.
