So sammy, an international multi billion dollar company that makes everything from refridgerators to tvs, is supposed to stop everything until 2.2 is out for the epic 4g? One product in a linup of hundreds? The music player is just an i9000 with no 3g or gsm radio... takes no time to make... and I'm pretty sure the people working on 2.2 didn't have anything to do with the music player... did I miss something or isn't the player running 2.1 also? Also its been stated that 2.2 has already been given to the carriers so I really don't underfsand your issue...

I see where you're coming from, but no. 2.2 has not been given to any samsung mobile device other than the i9000. (that's international, however, and the update's only in the UK and Asia) Canada's Vibrant on the Bell Carrier did get a FroYo update, but that fried the internal storage, and the update was pulled.
I honestly don't care if the update comes to our device first, I would just appreciate Samsung a bit if they would have ANY FroYo update for their phones in AMERICA.

It's obvious though that this device most likely started from the ground up with 2.2 unlike the Epic so we have to wait. It's just the nature of the beast when it comes to rolling out updates to something and trying not to blow up every device already out there and then have to deal with that nightmare.
It's all about quantity over quality anymore.

October 2011, 3 days after Google announces Android 5.0, Samsung finally releases Android 3.1 for the Samsung Epic. I can't say what's new in 3.0+ but the fonts definitely seem smaller. Also, everyone is nocturnal so 4 am is what you all would consider 4pm.
Anyway, speaking of 4s, the four major wireless carriers had a marketing war during the summer of 2011. It got to the point where Sprint named every small update to backhaul infrastructure after a new "G". This resulted in even the oldest WiMax phones to be advertised running 44G at pretty much the same speeds as what we have now.
Well here's a pic of the About menu. I'll upload an Odin 6 .tro and .pert update files. It only works over USB 4.5 or else you'll brick your phone.

I still think it won't be until February/March. Kinda ironic that t-mo is the first to release the update since they were the ones that came under fire for allegedly holding up 2.2 until the fascinate 4G came out.. hmmm..
You never know. Sprint likes to be "the first" at things. Maybe this will put pressure on them to roll out froyo sooner then later as well.

I can promise you that we won't get 2.2 before the Captivate. Past that, I have no idea. It seems the problem is really getting the CDMA differences worked out. That said, I'd hate to be a Continuum user right now.
Probably only because of the backlash about Samsung holding it in order to sell more Vibrant 4Gs.

Anyone here file a class action? I actually believe that Brodman guy when he said that they just weren't aware that timely updates are very important to users. Google has introduced a new paradigm with their frequent OS updates, and I don't think the carriers have really considered updates a top priority. One thing is for certain, flood their Facebook pages and Twitter accts. I'm pretty certain that anytime anything regarding any topic is posted anywhere regarding T-Mo, a flood of Vibrant users respond with calls for the Froyo update.
And I guess the best thing is if you can get something written up in one of the big tech media sites. The carrier execs may not be reading XDA, but they sure start running for the mikes when they get a black eye in Engadget or TechCrunch.
Sprint has tweeted that the Epic will get Froyo ASAP, but this isn't new . I'm still going to hope that T-mobile will pressure Sprint to roll out Froyo.

ASAP huh? That could be tomorrow or a year from now depending on whenever they feel it's "possible".

If it really is true, based on what the Tmo CMO stated, that the hold up is caused by the carriers needing to add whatever software they think we need. Well, that's just ridiculous. They should just stop messing with apps not everyone wants on their phones and just release Froyo or whatever is in the pipelines. Perhaps we should start a campaign to get manufacturers and carriers to move closer putting stock android on their phones. Just a thought.

I like how he says, "...what the big announcement was all about...", implying there will not be an announcement now.
No offense meant, but all the secrecy going around this rumor is kinda building up a paper castle.
SamsungJohn works for Samsung, not Sprint. He can't offer us anything that affects Sprint (our contract holder) unless they've worked out a deal before-hand and, even then, Sprint would be the face of the offering. Why would Sprint's partner, Samsung, skip them completely and go directly to the customer? These aren't appliances.
I doubt they worked out a deal beforehand because the whole XDA debacle would have never happened. It would have been presented behind the scenes well before we ever caught wind of it.
So, yes, I'm curious, too, but don't get your hopes up too much. Remember, "HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT" doesn't mean the same thing to one person as it does the other. Expect crap but hope for diamonds and somewhere in between lies the truth.
Noobnl speaking makes me think a little bit. When he says "future is bright"....well I'm encouraged.
My first thought? Xda will act as samsungs beta grounds...which would mean full disclosure.
I'm imagining us receiving full device driver source code...
Think about...we could theoretically port every android update on our own. Which honestly would be nice, and really, a win-win for everybody..
Samsung wouldn't have to put in the man power or money to update our phones, and we would still have access to every current update...samsung would then have a bunch of happy customers without breaking a sweat...
Because I mean really, wouldn't we all be happier with the source code over an ota anyday?
I think I might have the nail on the head...

I have talked to him MSN Messenger and I can't say what the big announcement was because that would make too much sense and ruin the constant "wtf is going on?" aura that surrounds the Epic support from Samsung and Sprint, I can tell you that eventually something will happen.
