Sorry to bother guys, but has anyone here able to set up their Yahoo email, if you have one up? I just can't seem to get it to work.

Use K9 Mail instead of the stock email app. Works very well with Yahoo.

K9 huh? I'll check that one out. Thanks buddy!
Yahoo! Mail app from the Market.
The official Yahoo! Mail app is really slow, at least in my experience (Captivate). I've tried it a few different times and always go back to K9.
I went with K9 for now. I still can't get it to push for some reason though...
The Yahoo app blows ass, and like above said, it's slow...
Use these settings from this site. I use this site for setting up Yahoo IMAP settings on customers' Android devices daily.

I was quite excited reading your post, seeing an incoming server setting that I had not come across before. (the 'n' thing) However, still no push functionality. I wonder if ANYONE has EVER succeeded in making Yahoo push work on Android? I use K9 which works brilliantly with every possible email provider, but the Yahoo one. Sure, it retrieves my mail, but only when I poll manually. Still no push. Does ANYONE have information on how to get this working? Please help! And if you could provide the correct settings, the post MUST render a 'sticky' !!!!!!!!!!
Incoming mail server : imap.mail.yahoo.com
Outoing mail server : smtp.mail.yahoo.com
This is what i used and its working perfectly.

Thanx for taking time to reply. Let me just get this straight:
you get your emails right away to your phone (i.e. "pushed")?
And you use either "no SSL port 143" or "SSL port 993"?
And you're using K9 rev. 3.403 to retrieve your emails?
Are you using "[email protected]" or just "johndoe"?
Could you please present ALL your settings here?
Because I have tried both (rather ALL) settings, to no avail.
I just can't figure why it works for some, but not for others.
Grrrrrrrrr.....

Hi there,
I've tried searching for this but can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I want to be able to download all my hotmail emails to my HTC Touch HD, but currently theres a limit to 50 on my hotmail account.
Is there anyway of doing this? I'm sure I used to be able to do it on a previous version of windows mobile but can't seem to now. It seems so bizaare that you can't, as I often want to go back to old emails, and don't always want to go through the web to get these.
Maybe there's a better email application, or even outlook for windows mobile which I could use?
Thanks for any help,
Tom
try setting up your email account using Outlook Mobile's POP3 settings (pop3.live.com / smtp.live.com). during the setup process don't use the real email address @hotmail, or @msn or @live, use @hotmaill, @msnn or @livee. once you've completed the setup you can go back to change to the correct email account name. the only downside is you lose the push feature. your phone will poll your email account based on the interval you select during setup. i'm using this setup for my MSN account, where email arrives every 5 minutes duirng the day and every 30 minutes in the evenings.
Thanks mate, thats perfect. Don't need to have push email anyway.
Cheers, Tom

Hotmail account on HD
Hi all,
Anyway of getting my hotmail account to go through the Outlook on the phone, WITHOUT having my account on Messenger?
It seems you can only have one account setup on messenger, as as my messenger account.
Now when you setup messenger using a hotmail account, you have the option to get all emails going through the outlook, and download to the phone as normal.
BUT I dont use a hotmail account for my messenger, and my main email accoutn is a hotmail account... hope this doesnt confuse you! But my messenger is a "dead account" and any emails sent to that email go no where.
So If i try setup my hotmail account in the outlook, put in all the setting like email address, password ect, it just takes me to hotmail.com on my Opera browser, but does not save the settings in outlook?
Sorry for confusion!
Not sure I've followed you correctly.
I also don't use messenger but I do have hotmail on my device in emails tab. I used Windows Live to set it up which is on most HD roms. Once you've gone through process of setting up and sync'ing your hotmail account will appear in emails tab like any other email account
Ah yeah, but the problem is, Windows Live just like messenger only lets you have one accoutn setup at once.
So I set my hotmail up with windows live, my emails appear. Thats good.
But then it also sets Messenger up, with the hotmail account, which I dont want, if you get me?
you might be able to setup multiple hotmail accounts using the method listed here. i use this to access 2 msn accounts and 1 live account. not push, but works just as well.

Hello,
i just got my Hero and I'm now trying to setup my POP email account using HTC mail. I'm using the same settings which i had on my HTC Diamond but for some stupid reason i cannot setup the outgoing SMTP server on the Hero.
No matter what I do, i always get a
"550 Administrative prohibition" from the outgoing mail server.
However, i can receive email using the same account information, just sending does not work
Any hints?
have you turned authentication on for the outgoing server?
that error suggests you haven't and it is blocking you because of it!

Yes, i have. Actually, when i turn it off i do not get any error messages during account setup but then again i cannot send any mail in the HTC mail app
The above error occurs when the HTC mail setup prog tries to verfiy the settings with the smtp server.
Do you use a different username for your smtp server? That flatout refuses to work for me in HTC Mail, I would suggest you try K-9 a much better email app.

No, it's the same username (=email address).
ok, next one to try, i know on my server, the username is the email address bbut with a + instead of the @. Usually i don;t have to use it and the @ sign works, but some programs i have to use the +
could that be it?
Nope, sorry. That didn't do the trick as well.
Meanwhile i read on some other forums that it depends on the mail server, that's why some work and some won't. As it seems the HTC Mail app is sending a "script" (whatever) during account setup that is treated as malicious by the server and ignored therefore.
Had X10 for 2 days and can sync googlemail great, hotmail tried all settings cannot get it to work. Any help? might be missing something!?
Firmware 1.6
Baseband version 1.0.14 read a thread about a 1.0.16 being available? Not available for me to download.
Oh ps my mate took delivery of a htc desire of orange yesterday.
Did a quick linpack on both devices straight out the box :
Desire 7 mflops
x10 4.049 mflops
both of orange
Really need sony to do a 2.1 or 2.2 android upgrade.
Anyone have quite in call speaker and a slight hissing and popping when turned up full?

absolutely no probs with my hotmail sync. every 15 minutes on the dot. have you got pop3 enabled in hotmail settings and have you considered hotmail plus as thats what gives access to pop3 delivery elsewhere
All the required hotmail account settings should be available on the link below, I'm guessing you don't have a .com address so the handset is not automatically applying the correct hotmail smpt/pop3 settings.

Hotmail
Thanks dbase-uk, I know this works as I was sitting next to you.
Hotmail 100% and deletes from server.
Having a hotmail.co.uk, x10 did not auto setup, there manual setup is a must. hotmail.com works straight away.
By the me and dbase-uk are comparing the htc desire and x10 both on orange and will be posting.
Thanks
X10 speaker & hotmail
Iv also not been able to link my hotmail account. Im trying the link u used as a last attempt. My speaker volume is also very quiet.
Still not working
Try these settings, they work fine for me:

I use Hotmail POP setting direct over gmail account
I just use Hotmail (and my ISP account) through Gmail. It works great.
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App
same here, i have hotmail, my school email, and my yahoo mail all fw to my gmail and it works great
It also means you only need to go to one place on the web to read your mail.
Set up
How do you get your email to forward to your gmail account?
Strange, my .co.uk hotmail account set up without me changing any of the settings. I just put in my email address and my password. I am on stock 2.1 at the mo so I don't know if that has something to do with it
I am not sure if its availble on 1.6 but you guys should be setting up hotmail using Exchange Activesync...push email rather than timed POP

can't do it on stock rom afaik
Hello All! Forever I've wanted my mail combined in the stock app, but Yahoo! IMAP wouldn't work over wi-fi without using K9, etc. I tried again and have success thanks to mtwebster's git commit: http://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_Email/commits/froyo
If you want your Yahoo! mail in the stock email (vanilla email client, not htc) app, add your IMAP account manually as usual and use the following incoming and outgoing servers:
Incoming server: imap.next.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
I've tested it and it works great for me! I now have a combined mailbox with my Exchange (work) mail and my yahoo mail and can access both via Wi-Fi or 3G!
Enjoy
i dont know about the "next" command in ur first string..but ive always used :
INCOMING : imap.mail.yahoo.com
OUTGOING : smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
im sure ur way works..but theres an alternative if the first way doesnt work for anyone for some odd reason

Hey SoCal. I saw your other post about ordering your Dinc. I think you'll love it! Welcome!
As for the servers, the ones you listed are the ones I had and they will NOT work via Wi-Fi (except if using K9 mail and I hate that ugly @ss icon and wanted one mail client and one inbox for all of my mail) but work fine over 3G. That's why I had to find the others. Give it a test and you won't even be able to add your account to the stock client while connected to a wireless access point. It will keep telling you "The username or password are not correct". When I'm at home or at work, I'm always connected to wireless, so not being able to get my mail is unacceptable.
Thanks for the reply, though!
awesome catch then eh? kudos on that!
and thanks for the welcome. being on an HDPI device is gonna be a bit of a learning curve as far as development goes..but im sure with a bit of the forum help ill be able to find my way just fine.
not working for me...

This is the regular plain-jane HTC mail app? I tried using these server names to set up my regular yahoo (not y-plus) account...left SSL and default ports unchanged. I had to switch to 3G-only even to get past the incoming server page in manual setup. I got the account set up, but with WiFi active I get the same old errormsg.
Is yours still working? I wonder what we did differently.

No, that was on the vanilla email client when I was using Ruby. I tried with the htc client and got the same issue that you did. I might have to restore my ruby backup and see if it still works and what the ssl settings are.
EDIT: I just verified that this works on the vanilla email client, via wifi, with security set to none but won't work on the htc client.
Typed on my Incredible phone!

It's an issue with the Yahoo Mail app and not the XOOM (or any other specific device)
I don't like to tell people what they should be using but why does anyone still use Yahoo mail? It is nothing but a SPAM magnet. And if you are using Android, you will have a much better experience using gmail. Just my opinion.
Yahoo was my first mail provider. Now it is just a secondary mail address, I think my fourth. But it still has some subscriptions on it.

Abandon it! Just let go...I was in your shoes 2 years ago with my first android and I never looked back. Gmail is awesome...unless you're from an internet blocking nation (coughchina) where yahoo is your only option....
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
I have a cool username on yahoo.com
Same like my hotmail.com, I have 3 characters username which is rare
So, for nostalgic sake, I keep them.
Anyway, can you just use the official Yahoo Mail app? Probably it is not optimized yet for HC.
