Last night i tried installing Clockwork Recovery on my Tab (it's a US T-Mobile model). I got an error message in ADB, but i thought i had worked through the issues. Then i installed Rom Manager and tried to make a backup through Rom Manager. It rebooted my Tab, but it never made it to Recovery; it froze on the white T-Mobile screen. At this point, i can reboot, but it always gets stuck on the white T-Mobile screen. If i hold down volume-down and power, i get into download mode, and if i hold down both volume-up and volume-down with power i get some text (sorry, can't remember specifics b/c i'm at work w/o my Tab).
I'm not a total Android noob, but i am new to Samsung (i've had a Droid and a Droid X, and i am very familiar with SBF-ing Mototorla android devices... i assumed that Samsung devices used something similar but i guess i was wrong). I feel that since i can get into download-mode, i should be able to re-flash the stock firmware and resurrect my Tab, but i'm not familiar enough with Odin (which i gather is what i'll need to use) to know HOW to do this, let alone where to get the correct version of Odin. I have found a file on these forums: T-Mobile.zip, which i think is what i'll need to flash, but again, i don't know how to do it.
I'd appreciate if someone would take pity on me and help me through my problems!

Looks like i figured it out myself. Thanks to anyone who was contemplating a reply

What was the fix?
Just out of curiosity, how did you resolve it?
As i said in my original post, i had found a T-Mobile.zip file on these forums. I originally tried using Odin to flash it to my Tab without success. Then, while scouring the web for answers, i found a blog post where someone flashed that same file to his semi-bricked Tab and it worked. The video showed the version number of Odin (1.7), which was different than the version i had tried using. Sooooo, i found v1.7 online, downloaded it, and used the PDA option to flash T-Mobile.zip to my Tab... and it WORKED!
I did have a lot of force quits of my apps after rebooting, and the guy on the blog said that if this happened, to do a factory data rest. So, success AND now i know how to flash back to stock which is even better! I hope this info is useful to others who get themselves into the situation i got myself into.

I decided to go ahead with the TW firmware upgrade. Everything seemed to be going fine until I tried to install it and it told me there was an error and I needed to hook it up to Kies first. I had already been using Kies with it on my Macbook for a couple weeks now so I went ahead and plugged it in. Kies recognized it as usual and all the information came up.
So I went on and tried to install again and it said it needed to reboot.
It reboots and comes to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 screen like normal (right before it starts the galaxy animation). Next thing I know it comes to a screen that looks like the attached images! I immediately unplugged it from Kies and shut it down. Every time I start it back up it does the same thing. I honestly have NO idea what to do. I can't even return it as it's past the 14 day period and I (stupidly) didn't buy Staples' bogus $160 insurance.
I was not rooted before. This was a stock tab that I bought at staples. It had the firmware 4.24 when I bought it, I think.
Please, any help is appreciated. I tried doing firmware recovery in Kies but the pop up comes up in Korean and I have no idea what it says...
Edit: More info. I'm not the only one with this problem. Two other people have posted on AndroidPolice about this. http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/08/04/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-wifi-touchwiz-ux-update-is-now-live/
The software is definitely running underneath all that mess but it's literally impossible to see what is going or to touch anything.
I guess this thread is about the same issue

Thanks, I'm checking the thread out now. I probably should have searched more than just Google before posting but I freaked out when it happened.
No need to freak out . we have xda and dev to solve all our problems

What CWM + my device is not rooted, all I could understand is that the thread contains instructions on how to root your device..
I just want my normal screen back!

So I need to follow all the steps for rooting except the last one which is the actual rooting? Great thanx! Do I need to use Kies? My current computer is Mac but I guess I need to download those things to a Windows machine to make it work, right?
Thank you very much
I had the same problem. I upgraded the update on my non-rooted tablet and got the funked up video mess. Per instructions from Samsung support, I hard booted to the recovery menu (power+vol down, then power up, down on download screen) and did the factory wipe. After that I ended up with the black screen. I could tell things were working in the back but couldnt see a thing. I figured I would throw it on the Kies and it saw that there was a factory upgrade so I let the Kies run through it and it works fine now.
Dont know if this will help w/other but it worked for me.
]I know this is a wide issue on many devices, but i could not find one for the Galaxy Note.
So here it is (and sorry if the answer is allready out there):
i roomed my phone, before i even knew what i was doing. I started the phone, and everything went nice. And then i tried to update the OS without using rooting, which appairently did not work. So i factory reset my Note, and it got stuck on bootscreen (the samsung logo). I have figured out (or atleast i thing) that the OS is missing, or something like that. So i downloaded it from a forum page here on XDA. The thing is i can't figure out how to put it on the phone. I tryed using ODIN. Any clue of an easy way to do this?
Thanks in advance

Solved:
After 2 hours of searching the internett, i finally figured out how to return to the basic firmware. I downloaded a stock firmware for the Galaxy Note, and followd a good tutorial on how to install it using Odin. Thanks to whoever wrote it:

Hi,
I had edited my build.prop and it bricked my pad. I was told to look for a kernel with aroma file manager. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find one that's for the Verizon SCH-i815 version. I would chalk it up to my inexperience, so i was hoping someone could help me.
Just to be clear, I'm not looking to have a custom rom on my pad, I just want to get it back operational. I have odin on my pad itself, so i'm just looking to flash a tar, then use CWM to fix my build prop by restoring the original version.
Were you running ICS or Honeycomb? Either way, it seems that if you can get into download mode you can flash recovery with Odin and then a stock ROM. You might check the i815 summary thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1760587
Or the i815 ICS thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932597
Thanks for the links, i'll read up and see if that solves the problem. I was running the stock honeycomb as verizon hadn't yet updated the tablet yet, though they are supposed to soon.

okay, so i have honey comb on the device, and i'm fine with that honestly, i looked through the first thread, but did not see anything there that mentioned aroma (which I was told to look for since i can't boot beyond Odin). Do you have any recommendations both for a file to download and a method?
Basically, my pad will charge and you get some sort of "response" when you power it on and plug it into a pc. I can enter odin mode by pressing power and volume button, but that's it. I'm just trying to get it back, i don't really care if i have to wipe all the data on there or not, but obviously it would be cool if i did. The way this happened to me was that i edited the model name in the build.prop file after seeing some tutorials on it. There are obviously a ton of tutorials on this, but i've tried several to no avail.
Perhaps someone with more expertise can step up, but I'm pretty sure that if you flash a rom it overrides your build.prop?
All you did was change the build.prop, right? If you can connect with adb, I'm thinking you can probably copy over a build.prop to replace yours.
Sent from my SCH-I815 using xda premium
yes, that's all i did. I don't have any experience with ADB, though i'm not scared of command line ... just have never used it at all. In looking at something like this: http://tabletmods.blogspot.com/2012/06/modifying-buildprop-in-pc.html my concern would be that there's no way for me to put it into debugging mode. Any thoughts on that would be appreciated

Did you try? Maybe it is in debug mode? Would you find your build.prop.backup with ADB commands?
However, if you do things you do, you need to have a backup
So flash another kernel and you will have a cwm. Not sure but I think in cwm you should have an option to activate usb-debugging...

Hi there,
I have only had a little bit of time to address this over the past few weeks but i'm hitting brick walls everywhere I turn. At this point, I just want to restore my tablet to stock. I am not entirely sure why this is so incredibly difficult, but I cannot find a method that seems to allow me to replace my backed up build.prop. So meanwhile, I helped a friend out with a bricked nexus 7 using the nexus root toolkit, is there anything like this for the galaxy tab?
To clarify:
I had a rooted galaxy tab running 3.2 from Verizon. I edited the build.prop and it ended up bricking my tablet. The only option is to boot into recovery, at which point I'm presented with volume up (continue) or volume down (cancel). If i hit up, i'm taken to ODIN MOode, where the product name is listed along with binary (samsung official) and custon binary download: no. That's all i can do.
I downloaded CWM recovery from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542897 and followed the instructions here: http://theunlockr.com/2012/11/14/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-the-samsung-galaxy-tab-7-7/
however, when i subsequently try and boot into recovery mode, i have no luck. It does not seem to "take" the update thus i'm left with odin mode on the tablet.
!
i think - wrong area to ask...
*deep breath*
I was following Qbking77's hotspot guide and now I'm stuck on the yellow screen like it seems a lot of people have been. Some of the comments there pointed me here but I don't understand the fixes or they were trying to do something else.
I just want my phone back, I don't care about data.
I'm hoping someone here will have mercy and the skills to help me.
Before I started this process I watched the videos closely and I used clockworkmod to backup to my SD card. I know he recommends goomanager but it's nowhere to be found on the play store. A backup is a backup I thought :/
When I push VOL up+ power+ home it will load and I've tried loading the backup I made - I get an MD5 mismatch error. Resetting to factory default made no difference either - and I hope I didn't fudge any chance of recovery by trying that option.
My phone is a sprint galaxy S4 SPH-L720, kitkat 4.4.2
If someone would take a few minutes and help me get my lifeline back I'd really appreciate it.
I guess I also don't understand why he said that renaming the services files was a way to undo the mod if it failed because I can't even boot my phone to access them. <<WHY?
**Edit**
I talked to someone irl and they recommended trying to use a stock rom for my GS4 either through odin or with CWM. Unfortunately the ones I found stickied here are who knows where ;P so I'm stuck trying to be optimistic about the fix while I wait for some others I found in the replies with the same file name to DL. I welcome any help/ideas about how to fix the services files I replaced.
IT BOOTED!!!!
Hurrah! No replies here as of yet but with some optimism from Bob the AT&T guy I pestered (there's no Sprint store in my town) I got it back up using L720VPUFNAE_L720SPTFNAE_SPR.zip and Odin v3.07.
THANK THE STARS,
THANK BOB!
and I'm gonna be a quiet noob now :X Though I might stick around just to try and see if I can get that free wifi hotspot working at some point. Alternate Guides?
The correct file for the NAE Hotspot can be found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2653666
Do not upgrade past NAE as that's where HotSpot development stalled out for the stock rom.
Ok guys, I'm really confused. I got this phone from a friend and the backstory was that it was once rooted and running a custom rom with google play apps, but someone did a hard reset or something and it went back to stock, which is hard to believe, but that's what they're telling me. If the info is correct, that means someone successfully flashed it at some point.
I found this guide https://www.lineageosroms.org/forums/forum/samsung/galaxy-s5-china-sm-g9006v-sm-g9008v-kltechn/ and got stuck right away. I can't get TWRP to work. Odin says it's done, but all I get is the stock recovery.
I found multiple threads about this phone, but it's all very confusing to say the least and I don't know where to begin with. I hope there's someone here using it who can give me some pointers as to how I can flash this thing.
Thanks in advance.
EUREKA! I've done it. All i had to do is uncheck the auto reboot option and use the key combination for entering recovery while still in the download mode. That got me to TWRP and I was able to successfully flash the rom and gapps.
Hope that info is useful to someone else.
