I could bring these out in a rom, but there are just way too many chefs in the Thunderbolt right now. So why not release a package that will tweak your current rom just as much?
What will this package do?
-Enable init.d support for scripts on startup.
-Enable usb debugging on a clean wipe.
-Add adb root at all times.
IO tweak
-Remount your filesystems(system, data, cache) with less overhead, so you can increase our already incredibly inflated IO score in quadrant. Does it increase real world performance? You be the judge.
Minfree tweak
-Will allow you to keep a higher mount of ram free before Android starts cannibalizing apps to free ram.
rw on boot
-Will allow you to boot at all times with system in rw mode. Handy for adb pushing files to system.
ro on boot
-Self explanatory.
How to use:
Flash kernel via HBoot.
Put PG05IMG.zip on sdcard, and with adb type:
adb reboot bootloader
This will boot to fastboot. All you need to do is hit power to enter bootloader, and it will scan the package and ask to load it. You will know if you have the right package if it says boot.
Note: If you do not have busybox installed, use this:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2056318/busybox_1.19_3.zip
Once you have rebooted, take the second package and flash it via clockwork.
When you reboot, all tweaks will be applied for filesystem and minfree. To use rw at boot time:
In adb or terminal emulator, type:
rw_boot (will require you to type su beforehand if in terminal emulator.)
Next reboot will be rw.
For ro:
ro_boot (same thing, type su first if using terminal emulator.)
Next boot will be ro.
In regards to the two above scripts, do not worry if either gives a file not found error. It will still work.
Extra scripts:
sysrw --mounts system as rw.
sysro --mounts system as ro.
Tweaks that did not make the cut:
SD card speed tweak:
I see a lot of rom cooks adding this, but lets face it, HTC added this tweak in before the phone was shipped. I checked. No need to reapply the same thing again. Right, guys? *crickets*
Framework speed up by removing transitions:
Framework isn't eye candy.
Zipalign every boot
Apks can be zipaligned only once. No point in doing this every boot.
Download kernel:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ob2i992sza9y260
Download cwr package with scripts:
http://www.mediafire.com/?7u69f950indjiqe
I will be adding more as time goes on.
good work bud this is gonna be usuful for a lot of people. =)
Sorry for the noobish question but what does "adb root at all times" mean? If I've done the whole rooting process aren't I fully rooted?

Yes, you're fully rooted - which is to say, you have the ability to su and become root - very little that is running is actually running as root.
If you're running stock kernel, when you adb shell, you'll get a $ prompt ... i.e. you're not root yet, but can become so with a quick su. (Oh, and SuperUser will pop up asking you to allow it.) Nothing you do via the adb command (push, pull, etc) happens as root.
If you're running the patched kernel, when you adb shell, you'll get a # prompt ... i.e. you're root now. (No SuperUser prompt either.) Everything you do via adb (push/pull) happens as root.
Point being: yup, you're root'd - but you ain't root until you're root
I will apply this in my next update and will be standard in all my roms. If that's okay with u

does this kernel retain the ability to fastboot, I keep having trouble with it not working and I am trying to narrow it down.
Thanks Adryn!

fast boot, or fastboot?
fastboot is a feature of hboot, not the kernel.
fast boot is buggy and only works on wifi or 4G. NOT 3G.

Is there any reason why we couldnt flash the pg05img through CWR?
Other than it not being setup for cwr, and cwr doesn't work to flash kernels yet?
No.
Is it already in your rom?

Ok so this is my first post just wanna say hi to everyone.
Last night around 1:00 am i noticed my phone had some kind of prompt asking me to install gingerbread, the phone had already downloaded it.
I decided i wanted to stay on Froyo for several reasons, the biggest being that i like my phone the way it is and i don't wanna lose my root or my ability to tether.
That and i have put a lot of time and effort into getting my phone to look a certain way using go launcher ex and i just don't wanna change at this point in time.
Ok so i did a tiny bit of research and found a way to disable the blurupdater.apk by renaming it to blurupdater.apk to .bak which stops the update prompt.
I did this using super manager and i also noticed in my cache file a file named Blur_version.2.3.20.a955.verizon.en.Us.zip which is around 105.72 megs.
Is this the gingerbread update and can i delete it from the cache file using super manager?
If not where can i find the update file and how do i delete it as i do not want gingerbread and am perfectly happy with Froyo as it is now.
I also read somewhere online that doing a hard reset will take my device off the soak listings, what i'm wondering is does verizon plan to force the update to all devices at some point?
If so can i simply do a hard reset and get my device off the list.
Can i stop them from forcing me to upgrade to gingerbread if i don't want to, is really what i'm wondering.
Thank you in advance for any help you guys can give
B4 you delete it, can I have it? Please? I have seen in other forums mention that the soak has started coming through. I'm just not sure about the file name. 2.3.20 is Froyo.
I'm on the Leak from June and it was 4.5.153.A955....

He's not on the soak test, he thinks blur version 2.3.20 is gingerbread, its the newest version of blur for froyo. Gingerbread hasn't been officially released.
You should go ahead and update to the newest version of froyo, make sure to unfreeze everything first, afterwards all you have to do is root again via z4root and your good to go
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL running Leaked Rooted Gingerbread!
No i am on the soak test i just renamed the updater and the update message says 4.5.601.en.US has been downloaded and is ready to install. Anyone know where can i find the downloaded file so i can delete it. I seriously do not wanna jump to gingerbread.
@d2user you can have it if i can find it and get it off my phone
I am not a soak tester(thus wanting the file) but am told it is just in /cache

Ok well the only file of any size in my root cache folder is the one i mentioned above, im viewing the file with super manager, is it possible that super manager just isn't reading the file correctly?
When i renamed blur_updater.apk super just sees it as updater.apk?
So maybe its just not reading the file name correctly?
I dunno but its 105.72 megs.
Wish I could be more help. All I can say for sure is that my cache is empty except for 2 empty sub folders.

I got the update and let's just say it's got roots
Does wireless tether work on gingerbread and how did you root it. I used z4root to root froyo. It was pretty much childs play, Is there a one click root for gb. I wouldnt mind upgrading but dont wanna lose functionality. Im on verizon and lately they have been trying to stop tethering.
Update has been pushed to my device, all loaded up.
Downloading now, gonna see what it is and or does.
UPDATE:
Here are the specs: Sys Ver 4.5.601.A955.Verison.en.US, Android Ver. 2.3.3, Baseband Ver. BP_C_01.09.13P, Kernel Ver. [email protected]#1, Build Number 4.5.1_57_DR-31, ER Ver. 5, PRL ver. 65226.
Also I have posted a SS over @ MyDroidWorld.
This does not work with Droid X System Version .621.
(Information on this post was taken from Pete's website: http://www.psouza4.com/Bionic/)
NOTE: If you were rooted on the original OTA and took the update to .602 and lost root, read the 'Droid X' notes under the how-to.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to: One Click Root for Windows 7/Vista
1. Your phone must be connected via USB data cable to your computer and be recognized.
2. If your phone is connected, but not recognized, you may need to install one of these software drivers:
-Windows universal 32-bit Motorola drivers version 5.2.0
-Windows universal 64-bit Motorola drivers version 5.2.0
3. Download this one-click root package: PetesMotorolaRootTools_v1.08.zip
4. Extract the contents of the one-click root package to a new folder on your computer.
5. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled on your device. This should be under Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging.
6. From the new folder on your computer, double-click on Pete's_Motrola_Root_Tools.exe to begin the root process.
7. Click 'Root My Phone'.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Droid X Note:
Droid X Notes
Your phone may need to be in either charging mode or PC mode or you may need to toggle it a number of times for the device to recognized correctly.
If you are trying to root from the OTA Gingerbread update and you were previously rooted, you will probably experience problems with this root method because of the pre-existence of busybox and superuser.apk. For that reason, you may need to attempt both the script method (for Windows XP users) and program executable method (Windows Vista/7 users). If you are still having problems, please follow these instructions:
Open a Command Prompt in the folder where you extracted the one-click root package (see instructions for rooting). If you are using Windows 7, you can just use Shift+Right-Click on the folder you extracted the package and choose to "Open a command prompt here". For other operating systems or versions of Windows, you may require some DOS experience or need to Google how to change directories.
In the command prompt, type the following command:
adb shell
Click to collapse
If you receive any kind of error, then you may not be in the folder where you extracted ADB.exe or you may need to reboot your computer, your phone, or check the connection. You should receive an ADB prompt ending with either a # or a $.
If the line ends with a $, then run the one-click exploit for Windows XP (even if you have Windows Vista or 7) and only complete step 1.
When you have adb shell ending with a #, type the following commands:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/system /system
rm /system/bin/su
rm /system/xbin/su
Click to collapse
Ignore any messages that warn you about the file not being found/missing. We're removing old copies of su/superuser which are causing this one-click root method to fail.
(credit: KevlarGibs)
Additionally, during the parts of the one-click root that reboot your phone, your phone will most likely reboot into recovery instead of into the standard Android lock screen. If this is the case, simply unplug the cable and reboot the phone manually. When you are finished rebooting, plug the phone back in again. Some people have had to reboot their PC too.
Finally, some users have mentioned that the root isn't taking affect right away for all apps. Eventually, after several reboots, the phone finally takes root. We're not sure why this is (I don't have a Droid X -- I'm just re-posting this information for brevity).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please try the Windows Vista/7 method first! It will work better for most Windows XP users.
Only use this method if the other has not worked yet.

Hi I'm trying to unroot my x2 and it keeps saying Error: you are missing adb.exe, which was packaged with this program. The adb.exe is in the same folder as all of the other files i extracted to my restore folder. Any ideas?
I will try this at thanksgiving for my dad's X

Your preinstall is full. With Root Explorer go to preinstall/app/ and delete something (NFS). Reflash Clockwork mod. Then try again.

Finally worked up the cajones to use Pete's Tools and rooted my DX. *whew*
Doing a complete TiBu right now. Couple quick questions.......
1. Is CWM installed? If so, how does one access. If not, ROM Manager perhaps?
2. Renamed blurupdater_VZW.apk to .bak to block updates
3. Any "landmines" I should NOT uninstall?
Sorry if I sound noobish but this is my only phone number and am proceeding cautiously.
Thanks

First of all, let me reassure you that anything you do to your phone can be reversed with a simple SBF. ^_^
Install ClockworkMod Recovery through Droid 2 Bootstrapper, then use ROM Manager to update it to the latest version.
There is plenty of things that you can remove that will cause issues =P It's pretty much trial and error, there are lists you can look up that will tell you what can and can't be removed, but regardless, always make a backup in CWM.

DroidX, 2.3.3, original Moto ROM, LauncherPro+
First time I did Pete's it worked perfectly.
After .605 OTA it had a problem, so I re-Peted.
Each time Pete tried to reboot the phone, I had to pull the battery. Eventually, the process finished and I had a rooted Droid. It's fast, stable, has fine battery life. TitaniumPro, QuickBoot, and other root-only tools work properly. Various things ask for Superuser permission, and I give it, and they work properly.
But the SUPERUSER app has disappeared. When I go to Market, it says "Installed". It doesn't appear on my app list, and was never frozen. It's there, but invisible.
Everything else works, so should I just leave it alone?

You should be able to find Superuser by using the search key. It's not really important to have, it just manages the superuser permissions. I think of it as a background app.

I just mixed together the first test now. Right now it's a HUGE rom Taking up 281MB of System Space, and I'm having problems with Titanium Backup not seeing the system as rooted, even if Super User is giving it permission. I'm still a very new rookie at cooking a ROM.
I do want to thank earthbound, his Seppuku MTD TW Kernel is awesome!
Now I need to make this quick microwave batch of EL30 Gingerbread taste like oven fresh.
Well if you do manage to get a stock MTD version of EL30 working I'm sure many people here would love to get in on it.
We are all anxious to see it. Good luck nailing it all down.

OK, so I'm deleting some of the programs I don't like out of the stock programs to take out some fat. I'm also going to try taking Titanium Backup out of the system apps to see if that helps with it's root issue. Android terminal emulator is switching ok to the proper SU # prompt when I command SU in the terminal.
Update for those curious
I was able to get the size of the ROM down to about 235MB System, far better then it was.
As for the root issue, I realized that it's not the fault of Titanium Backup, but all my root programs could not recognize successful rooting (Set CPU, ES File Explorer, etc) and my version of SU kept reporting an outdated version (2.xx versus the 3.07 I have on my EI22 ROM), which is strange because I used the same Super User apk file from my EI22 ROM.
Sadly, I don't know enough about the intricacies of the root settings between Kernel, and ROM Versions to be able to solve the issues. I suspect there was something to do with my use of Earthbound's EI22 Kernel with the EL30 ROM Files, but I can't find the problem.
By what I saw from late night testing, there were two problems:
The root issues
GPS Lock Issues (Couldn't try changing the permissions because I didn't have root permissions.
I apologize for my failures at fixing the problems for a good release.
Come back when it is using the el30 kernel. The old convert process still works...

Hey people,
I've been trying for a while now to root my sister's Intercept (virgin mobile). I've looked all over the place and no method seems to work. Does anyone know of a way to do it?
I've tried:
z4root apk (said phone is rooted but su wasn't installed and all other apps said it wasn't, including root checkers)
intercept root apk (same as above)
SuperOneClick (latest version) (stopped in the middle and never completed, always fails)
Gingerbreak apk (just reboots the phone and doesn't do anything)
Any ideas? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
The intercept root apk worked like cake for me. I would try doing a factory reset then using that apk first thing after rebooting. It doesn't work with FB01 (Sprint) Intercepts after a February 29, 2012 update, but it should still work with EC07 (VM).
This is the one I used: http://intercept-root.googlecode.com/files/InterceptRootV1-35.apk
Once you've used the app once and reboot your phone, open it again and if it worked you should see options to either unroot or install CM01 custom recovery (recommended if you want to flash roms onto it).
Good luck!
Gonna try it out when I get a chance. Thanks!
The z4root dont work on the intercept anymore. and the inerceptroot.apk on my phone would say that it was failed or what not and i would use root apps and they would still work (even without superuser)

Id just start from scratch and find a stock rom to flash. I used to have a VM intercept for a painful 2 years. Sometimes you just need to start over with a fresh rom.

Intercept root
i have an intercept from VM and it was easily rooted with interceptroot.apk Google it, a safe copy will be found on sdx-developers website.
this should get you started, make sure you download the file with your phone, click the home button. Next, click the settings button on your phone, go to applications and then in the following menu, go to development and turn on usb debugging and use the back icon, next allow unknown sources in the menu you are now into again, and click the home button yet again.
Make sure you have some sort of file browser, I personally prefer the app "file expert" but others have their own preferences. (you can use any file tools, like: es file explorer(free), file explorer(free and paid), file expert(free and donate versions), root explorer(free and paid verisons). Anyways, go to your sdcard with the file tool, locate the folder called download, and tap the icon that says "intercept-root.apk" make sure its version 1.35!
You should be asked if you'd like to install, select install. *** NOTE: if you have an antivirus on your phone(whats the point?) you'll get a pup warning, it does not mean its a virus, just a Potentially Unwanted Program, which means that you might not want to install just because it will void your warranty.. if you don't mind, JUST IGNORE! ****
next, you will have a few options, might I suggest permanent root so you don't have to keep rooting your device, it will also have other options and install a handy icon inside your applications menu screen for safe keeping!
You should be all good to go, to find out, go to the google play store and download a program thats free called "root checker basic" It will let you know if your good to go or not.
That concludes the fast off the top of my head tutorial! happy rooting!
*** Update ***
This intercept root apk file also has the option to install the CM01 recovery mod (flash) if your into modding or wanting to flash the phone to a new network sometime (why????) you might want to use this too, make sure to read up on it, I personally have not done it and choose not to, at least yet.. This is important if you want to install roms, kernels (like crappy-kernel) and opens more features to your phone, but can render it into a paper weight if your not careful and PAY ATTENTION!
hope this helps everyone.
