where is the sprint user registration on the epic? - Epic 4G General

Wondering where the registration for sprint is on the rom for the epic? I have a epic wrkin on vzw, but after a few hrs...the data defaults to profile 1 on qpst...which then drops my data. I then need to use qpst and make profile 2 active...and this happens all the time. I would like to stop the process from running.

Few annoying problems

I am using DCD's 3.0.4 wm 6.1 rom. I only have sbp pocketplus and a third part digital clock installed on the today screen. Also only have s2u2 and touchflo starting up on the phone. For some reason the phone randomly locks up on a softreset, all I can do is turn the phone on or off from that point. I must softreset again to get the phone to function correctly.
The second problem I am having is I do not have a data plan and for some reason my phone keeps trying to connect to the internet. This just started happening yesterday randomly. I have put in a username for the data connection so it cannot automatically log in and charge up data on my bill. But every month somehow I have about $5 of data used. Is there any way to completely turn off data on this phone.
Thanks in advance!
don't worry, if you have sprint, your maxiumim inet fee wll be $75 lol. I have unlimited, but they apparently canceled that for a few days and i got the max charge of inet usage of $75, that's how I know about the price.
It's probably the SPB suit you're using. For example, I run one that has the weather. In order to update the weather, it connects to the inet. That could be the reason it's doing so. Otherwise, none of my SPB programs i run connect automatically that i am aware of.
It could also be something built into the rom, but i doubt it.
Search the tweeks sections for disabling the inet. I know there is a program that limits your inet time for this reason. You could set it to 1 second, since you are billed by KB not time.

I just recently got a data plan, even though I had the phone since September. I recommend calling Sprint (or whatever carrier you have) and requesting that they put a block on the data connection. If they do it right, then it will disable the data usage. If not, they will at least flag your account so that you can demand a reimbursement (which is what I did every month because they had trouble doing it right). The other thing you can do is go to start\settings\connections\connections\manage existing connections and then delete the Sprint PCS #777 connection by clicking and holding it. That will fix the problem until u do a hard reset.

Cellular South issue with all auto PRI ROMs

Ok, As most of the Cellular South Users know, the auto PRI feature does not work for us. When we install a ROM with this feature, we get "Hands Free Activation" errors on start-up, we experience data loss with a data connection error that appears at random, etc. What I want to know is, how can you remove this feature from the ROMs? I want to use Fresh 2.0d, but this problem is getting on my last nerves. I understand that making ROMs aren't easy, but there are more than just Sprint CDMA heros out there. I would actually like to start a Cellular South Specific ROM. Could someone please inform me on how we can remove this new "Auto PRI" feature designed for Sprint? Also, if anyone is with Cellular South, and would like to team up and start a Cellular South Hero Development team, let me know! THANKS!
EDIT: This is the exact error that Cellular South users get at random times
Data Call Failure
Error Code 65 .Unknown error. Sign in failed. Please try again. If the problem persists, turn your phone off then turn it on again.
That started ONLY when I started using Auto PRI update ROMs.
For the record... I have always put in my roms that it is only for Sprint CDMA Heros.
Are you able to tell me what PRI the cell south heros are supposed to have? You may need to look at one that hasn't been flashed with anything.
Try this:
##DATA# (so ##3282#)
You'll need your MSL six digit code to get into the edit mode.
Tap on Data Profile
Scroll down to the bottom and change the DSA Server URL to be just https://
Also, for the record, I'm not on Sprint myself. I'm on GCI Wireless in Alaska. Everytime I flash Fresh2.0d to phone on our network I get that "Hands-Free Activation" but when I do the steps above it doesn't happen again on subsequent re-boots. Although, I usually remove ALL of the Sprint bloat-ware as well so I don't know if it's the steps above or removing the Sprint apps that's actually stopping the activation screen from returning.
Useless Sprint apps that I always remove:
Sprint_Core.apk
SDSA.apk
OMADM.apk
IQRD.apk
HtcIQAgent.apk
sfl-prod-release.apk
I'm also using the Auto PRI from Fresh 2.0d and I have not had any problems with it. The PRI shouldn't be affecting your data connection at all. PRI, in the wireless world, stands for "Product Release Information" and contains both product release information as well as some authentication measures that can be used by the carrier for their network specific applications. Your actual connection settings are dependent on what is entered in the programming in the ##778# ESPT programming. You might want to look there and make sure your home SID/NID are correct and that under security you have the correct user/pass info for 1x and EVDO. I'm sorry, I don't know what these are for CellSouth.
*EDIT* Per a PM exchange with Avalaunchmods: Also the pri for android is the base of radio.img and some things are not utilized correctly if the pri is wrong. It's possible for some carriers the PRI is more important than others but I can tell you this, I've tried FIVE different PRIs on my Hero and never had issues with any of them. The only times I've had issues are when an RUU or performing the factory reset have messed up my EPST programming.
Exactly same i flashed 2.02d from Fresh and i lost Data in almost all ROMs comming from ERIS and Sprint Based (Damaage and Fresh)
Then again i Settle to 1.73.003 PRI came from 1.5 RUU but Data is working only in 1.5 and not in 2.1 ROM Strange
I am on Reliance India Mobile.

Forcing 1xRTT

I have crap service at my house, so after a phone call to Sprint they sent me an Airave for free and waived the monthly fee. Now as I understand the Airave is 1xRTT only, which is fine, whatever. But there is a slight EVDO signal that my Hero stupidly jumps on from time to time resulting in dropped calls and lost data connections because the EVDO signal fades in and out. Then it will go back full strength 1xRTT again. Rinse and repeat throughout the day.
I'm running Darchdroid 2.7. Is there a way to force 1xRTT?
Not without going back to a sprint based rom first. then you need your MSL. Call Sprint for that or Use alogcat. Calling sprint is easyer. AOSP roms don't have the ## sprint codes. ##DATA# is the one you need to force 1x only. Before you try all that try just keeping WIFI turned on at home. This should keep the phone from jumping off the Airave looking for 3G.
Hm, turning on Wifi didn't stop the signal from dropping to nothing from time to time like usual. Really don't like the Sprint based roms so I'm just going to live with it. Wish there was a way with AOSP roms though.
Flash a Sprint ROM, Change it, Then Flash back. It will stick. At least it did on my Moment. I put her (my wife) back on 3G when she went on a trip last month. She is back now and I have not swiched back but the problem seems to be gone. Weird I know.
Yes it does seem to stick. I'm kind of in a tough spot though. I need to force 1x at home for the reasons I said before, but I also use Pandora on my drive to work, so I need 3G then. So I guess I need to stick on a Sprint ROM so I can access the DATA menu regularly.
Thanks for the suggestions. Can anyone recommend the quickest Sprint based ROM? Even Fresh's ROM seems so laggy aince I've used darchdroid and darchstar's CM6 2.2.
I use the app AnyCut. I am able to create a link to CDMA Options > Mode of Operation. There you can select either Hybrid, EVDO or 1x. Using any cute you can easily access the right menu.
i dont have that option mode of operation
then again im using cm6

This is just another reason I choose SenseUI over anything else.
The ##778 stuff, the different options available to control my phone, the widgets, the smoothness...
On cm6, I don't know that there is a way without modifying your phone's PST settings. QPST or something, if you can get in DIAG mode with cm6 (I'm assuming you can).
But then when you leave your house, you'll have to change it back (which is a huge process compared to the SenseUI way outlined by andrewjb)

Vibrant and NO data plan but 3G/E signal?

My wife fone does not subscribe to data plan. But sometimes, she got 3G/E signal display on the phone. Will Tmobile automatically add data plan to her phone? is she getting charged to browse the internet? Is there a way to disable this? Thanks.

How did she get a plan without data? Its a requirement for the android devices.
I'm sure tmobile will automatically add it.
Yes they will charge. Either 30 bucks a month for per meg. I had someone that tried to do this with Verizon and he got a bill for 300 bucks.
You can turn sync off which will prevent it from going online to get info. (sometimes)
Those 3G/E are normal even if you dont have data plan
Disable with "APNdroid" from the market. After you disable 3G/Edge/Gprs data connection make sure you reboot so it actually disables it...you will no longer see 3G/E BTW Expect even better battery life after doing so.

I wouldn't touch sync its still very useful even if just using Wifi
Not sure what you will get charged but a data plan is NOT required on this phone. On other android devices it has been but for some reason this one can be used as a "dumb" phone. Store employees may tell you otherwise so they can get the commission.

I've seen people INSIST up and down that you can't run smartphones without a data plan or the carrier will add them. They told me the same thing about AT&T and guess what? My wife runs her iphone 2g without one (edge disabled) and nary a problem.

But now i have a $60 month plan so i can use my smart phone for what its intended for
yep, no problem with my even more + plan sans data. been using it that way since i got my g1, and they have not said anything.

thats not true. its not required to have a data plan with an android phone. I talked to a tmobile rep and he said if you buy the android from them by either upgrading or starting a service then you do. but if you bring a tmobile android to them to start up service you dont have to have a data plan. although its really pointless to have an android phone without a data plan.
thanks for the replies guys. I download APN Droid and that took care of the concern. Thanks.

you dont need to download any apps. just go to mobile network, select APN setting and change the epc.tmobile.com to some arbitrary characters like "24532lk34j23l45ju204213" and hit the "menu" button and save. then turn off background sync at all time (unless you turn on wifi for android market donwload apps and gmail or apps that requires internet) and then reboot the phone.
the phone will will still shows 3G/E but u wont be able to get on internet as the APN setting has changed. T-mobile wont charge you data plan for this even though they got the IMEI detected. Ciao!

Yea remove epc.tmobile.com and for some reason you want it back but you forgot what it was so you go searching online because your forgot to write it down...you get the point
You really think that's easier than just getting APNdroid click to disable, click to enable. And why would he want to and disable background sync im sure he will use wifi.
BTW when you use your "method" and still see 3G/E your phone might not be able to connect to tmobile but it is still searching for those signals ultimately wasting battery
I don't have a data plan and I haven't disabled the APN settings. Whenever I go onto the browser without WiFi it shows me a T-Mobile page that just says that I need a data plan use the internet. It has never charged me. But I do have an unlimited text message plan and I can send picture messages just fine. Just an FYI.
I have used several android phones with out a data plan. We have a family plan, and so all I needed to do was use the sim card for a line that did not have a plan. It actually works well, and were I not waiting for the ota for froyo, I would be tempted to drop my data plan and I use my phone extensively.
If I recall correctly, the only applications that I could not use when out and about were the browser based apps. Initially, the thought of not being able to user google maps would have been enough of a reason not to drop the data plan, but with my trip to canada, that was cured with a $20 download of Co pilot. I am generally using my phone where I have wifi access. Nonetheless, I still was able to get email updates with out a data plan.
In essence, with out a data plan you can still access email, messaging, and use many if not most of your downloaded applications. If you need constant access to FB, you tube, twitter and the likes, you will not easily be able to drop you data line.
Note that I was able to get my wife's phone upgraded to a my touch slide on t-mobile and was not required to add a data plan. I did, but it was weeks after I already had it up and running which was possible because it provided an option to configure wifi before having to have the google account configured (unlike the G1).
Just fyi those those interested.

T-Mobile will NEVER add a data plan to your line, especially without your knowledge.
I've been using a smartphone with my plan without data for years now.

[Q] EVO> Boost 3G EVDO evdo and still no internet?

Hey people, new here, just finished getting my EVO 4g on boost. however i have no data. ##debug# says im on cdma with EVDO rev a also 3g icon is up with dancing arrows. when i hit internet and try to goto a site it times out after a min with dreaded page not found.
I have poured thru the extensive toots on this site with no avail, and spent atleast a 3 days non stop trying to get this to work. the misses is real upset with me and threatening all types of boycotts because of my "neglect" so any help dealing with this would be appreciated.
Im assuming this is some sort of authentication failure but again when i check debug mode under EVDO ( an/aaa authentication) i get Authenticated. im stumped at this and cant find a situation quite like this on any post in any forum.
what i have:
Ive got HTC EVO 4G non rooted with Incognito as don'. incognito was activated before the surgery. albeit very briefly.
3g icon with arrows. CDMA EVDO REVa listed under status
What i dont have:
Internet...1xRR or 3g
called up boost ATS ( by the way to skip thru the endless automated messages press "88" as the dude asks if you want spanish, you will be connected immediately...then ask for advance tech support...dont waste ur time with the first person). anyway they told me the phone would need 24-72 hrs to provision, i then told them its was going on 4 days , they then told me there was a delay with there provisioning servers because of an outage in my area. could this be true since my other boost phones work fine?
so to recap my issue is getting 3g to work...since not even 1x works at the moment.

It says Evdo Rev A . I forgot to do the update , but I just did it now, with same results. still says Evdo...
Dont know if this explains things, but I turned off the EVO and removed the battery, Turned on the incognito, and tried to access the web, and a web page comes up saying that I havnt payed the bill... and gives me options to do so...!!! WTF? the 50 dollars was added 4 days ago when i activated the phone lol... any thoughts on this and if it could be whats causing the EVO to time out?
Im going to call boost now to see whats up with that web page on the incognito. will follow up
Prepaid carriers have terrible data transfer speeds without an excellent signal.
OK got it working.
didnt realize the cdma workshop wasnt writting nv files. well it was but it seams you cant load the individual 466, 465, 1192, 1194 without errors because the format is wrong. I didnt catch the error because its the error message looks the same as successful message. so what I did was Read the entire nv file 0000-1174 i believe and deleted the 465, 466, 1192,1194 and copied and pasted them back in from the saved donor nv's. also make sure it successfully wrote NAI's ... the [email protected]..... as well as your boost NAI. mine was successfully written but reverted back upon restarting the phone and failed profile updates. also on my evo in order to connect to modem i had to enable tethering and when thats done i would get an error saying that I am not authorized to to use sprint hotspot and it would automatically disable all data... so what i did was turn on the handset and enable airplane mode whenever i had the phone plugged in to the pc. anyways once i had the correct nv files written i restarted phone waited for handsfree...cancelled PRL update...waited for phone to show 3g...restarted phone, i then skips hands free activation and goes into PRL update, allow it to continue and then viola it worked...
getting 900-1400 kbps down and around 300kbps up with about 3 bars
voicemail notification doesnt work like it used to on sprint but i get texts and what not...
too bad it so expensive to purchase DFS cdma tools. the whole process could be completed with no need for multiple programs.
do you have any update on the voicemail notification ?
---------- Post added at 09:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:05 PM ----------
also are you sure the NVM Items 1193 and 1194 are correct... in my NV i do have 465 and 466 but not the other 2
thx
this helped me
