[Q] Noobsauce I know, but im desperate - XPERIA X10 General

I recently rooted my phone, and I had all the apps for it but I guess it didnt root successfully. Can anyone help me out on a step by step to root it and i'll love you forever! please!
P.s. dont be rude im new to sony!

What rooting method did you use? Have you tried z4root from the adndroid market? It seems to be the best and simplest rooting method.

The best and easy way to root is the Z4root. Just install the app, run it, click on Permanent root and you are there after a reboot of the handset (automatic).
You can verify you are rooted successfully by looking for a app called "Superuser" with icon of a android skeleton kind of thing.
The next one is "super1clickroot" method which involves running a program in your PC and using it to root. Search for the above mentioned term and you can find the guide on how to do it.
Hope this helps.

What is your installed apps? Check the permission in your Superuser apps. All apps that need ROOT goes there.

The superuser.apk just doesnt remove when you unroot. Nothing is working as you didnt re-root.
If you want root again, simply root it again and you will be good.
I rerooted it over and over and still didn't w
ork.
Follow the manual rooting process and it will work. I promise.
Same thing happened to me but I had mine re-rooted within 5 minutes.
I NEVER trust those one click apps unless they come from UnrEVOked.
i have try different ways and still didnt work...could someone please help...
Honestly brother, you are giving people nothing to work with. You just say it didn't work. The manual root method will work, so as stated above use that. If you are saying you did use that method, then please describe where it is failing and what things look like. Post the link to the manual method that you have used, there are a few, which did you try, what steps did you follow?
Also, what do you mean it doesn't work/ You said you went into the superuser app and nothing is there. Well, I am confused as nothing is supposed to be there. The app does nothing when you click into it. It only goes into effect when you download and install a program that needs root. (an example is root explorer) When you install that app, it will open up superuser and ask for root permission and you can click to remember, etc and give it access. Explain what you mean by its not working......Unless you have apps that already have supervisor privs
i went to youtube....... when i type in the command ./exploid[/B it say denied.....Ok when i download rooted apps and try to open the apps superuser never come up for i can click allow....none of my rooted app ask for root permission. When i use the one click root process it say my phone have been rooted...
Follow the ROOT instructions in this post and in the links on that post.

You might have to try the . Exploid command a few times before it will prompt you for the password, TRY AGAIN! I had to run that command several times before it showed the password prompt.
when i get to the step i got to type ./exploid it keep sayin permission denied...I have try over and over still not working..can someone please help...

OK, I am going to try and help but only if you post what you have done, what you are following, etc. You cant make a blanket statement and expect people to know where you are at.
What files are you using, are you using the root that I linked you too? How are you typing things in? Dont put the "" around the commands like its typed, just type.
Did you in fact set up ADB correctly? When you push in step 2, what happens? When you go to adb shell after that, what happens, when you change directory's to sqlite_stmt_journal in step 4 what happens? etc.
If you want help man, you gotta be specific. This is why you are not getting a lot of replies.

Root help, i'm confused!

Hi there everyone,
I want to root my Desire HD, but I don't want to install any custom roms, radios, etc. I only want to root my HD so I can install apps that require root. I see no advantage in installing any custom ROMs, so I want to leave that alone.
What's the best way to go about this? I've found this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834427. Do I need to do anything else, except what is in this guide? I'm terrified of bricking my phone!
Could I brick my device if I made a mistake with the above guide, or S-OFF?
Thanks in advance,
Alex
Sorry for the question (no doubt it's been asked before), I've rooted my old HTC Hero before, found that easy, but this I'm confused!
Hi there. I'm actually quite a noob at all this since rooting is all new to me but seems you and I went after similar threads because I also read that guide to rooting the DHD at first. But after some further reading I discovered this is actually a much more difficult method of rooting (maybe because it's older?).
It will really, really help to look in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846248 as it explains so much and has many useful links.
But in answer to your question read this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841076 A much easier method of rooting =)
Good luck.

After I've ran that step - do I have permroot and I don't need to do anything else? I only want root, not custom ROM's.
I'm scared of doing the permroot, sounds like I'll break my phone if I even attempt it! Is there any way to ensure it will work?
Yeh you will be perma rooted if you follow the steps. About ensuring it will work, this is something I am now looking into myself. I'm getting the impression that it's possible to create a copy of the stock rom even without the perma root and using that to do a recovery in the event of a root failure. Though I would have thought perma root would have been needed to do a recovery in the first place....
I've got a thread below yours where I'm still trying to get a clear answer as to how to do all that. If I find out I'll let u know =P

By "if you follow the steps" - do you mean I only have to follow step 1 for perm root? Or more than that?
Sorry for all the questions, I really do appreciate your help, thanks!
And also - if it fails, the stock WWE RUU can be flashed to restore the phone, can't it?
EDIT: Followed step one, restarted device and everything - perm root stays. Thanks for all your help mate!

Go all way through these steps from 1.1 to 1.6. Once you've done 1.6 your phone should be rooted. Just download the terminal emulator from the market and do that last thing that is mentioned to test the perma rooting. If that works then your good.
Oh just so you know the temp root option in Visionary is apparently completely safe and won't harm nothing because it makes no changes to the system partition.
Not sure about the WWE RUU. I'm not sure it will be compatible with your current ROM (Only thing I do know is that if it's older then your current it won't work). Don't know how to flash it either tbh, that's something I ain't found out yet =P

Use "FlashTool" (Search the forum for this). It's the easiest way to root ATM and you can Install xRecovery and Optimize (JIT) as well using this same tool.

[Q] i Cannot root again...( since V. 2.3.4)

hi. i updated my phone to 2.3.4 (sys 4.5.91 us) and i cannot get my root back. im pretty new to root but i do not want anything but root. not unlock, not new rom, not anything except root.
i had the latest version of Android and used Gingerbreak and i was extremely happy as it was so easy for me to do. i had root and that's all i wanted. but now... i updated to 2.3.4 and i did not unroot before this (maybe this is my problem) but my phone is fine, everything runs great. but i cannot root it. i used this walk-through http://www.atrixforums.com/forum/motorola-atrix-hacks/4414-how-root-motorola-atrix-all-versions-including-stock-locked-2-3-4-a.html and finished it all. everything went through and i still don't have root.
i have done it 3 times now and successfully competed the steps. i still have no root. can someone direct me or walk me through another way of rooting or by chance giving me advice on what to do so i can get root? im not a scientist and i know it doesn't take one...but all i know is i just cant get my phone rooted and want it rooted badly.
someone please help me. i searched all over the forums and keep finding the steps i followed and then also found unlock steps(something i do not want to do)
all i want is root. please keep that in mind.

I used this method on my OTA gingerbread.
At first, it gave me errors and pretty much wouldn't work past command line, but in reality, Superuser was installed and I was able to launch it.
Do you have Superuser in your app drawer?
yes i do have super user. and i am able to launch it. but it does not unlock anything.
i got no errors. i did everything correctly and still i dont have root access. maybe im missing something?? i try to run Titanium backup and it said no root access. said the same thing with Root explorer.
superuser runs... but it doesnt have anything unlocked. i try to update superuser and it wont let me.

hmm, you can try going to manage apps and clearing superuser's data, and then maybe attempt the process again.
I had to clear data to get superuser to do anything at all when I rooted.
i read that before i attempted it the third time. i cleared data then completed the steps and still... my superuser runs but apparently i do not have root access.
superuser does not ask if i want to allow for root access for any programs like TB or Root Explorer as it should.

[Q] my old unroot method (SuperOneClick) not working anymore

Hi all,
I'm using the latest build of quarx cm10 image, 20130110.
I've got an app that only runs on unrotted devices (Excitor DME).
In the past I was able to use SuperOneClick 2.3.3 to unroot my defy again after having installed an update. Now however it stopped working, but it's dependened on the quarx image. In older images that functioned smoothly, now it just stops.
Superoneclick now also hands out a warning: "Automatic version check failed. Is your OS version 2.0 or higher?"
Now I'm not dependend on SuperOneClick, it was just a simple tool I used. If there's another way I can unroot my Defy, I'd be glad to learn from you.
Nevertheless I attached the window output from SuperOneClick to this post.
Thanks for your help in advance
Alex
Hi,
could someone please just point me to the right direction?
Maybe I've overseen the obvious but please give me a hint on how to solve this.
thanks a lot!

I dunno if superoneclick can manage with custom ROM. You can try one of the apps which can do the root/unroot from inside but I am not shure if work.

If someone's interested in it, the solution for me was to use the "SuperSU" app. Installed it, removed root access inside the app, uninstalled the app and that's it. DME is now working as expected.
Also tried "Hide my root" but this didn't help at all.
Cheers!

Hi I've tried using SuperSU and it didn't worked.
I've also made sure that the Kernel I was using doesn't re-root the device on boot.
DME is still detecting root access
I'm using cyanogenmod 9.1
Which rom are you using ?
Can please someone else help on bypass dme excitor root detection?
Thanks in advance!
Hi I'm using Quarx' latest CM10 image (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768702)
I installed Super SU and in the propertys I found an option (sorry, unsure what it was called exactly) to uninstall root. I hit that option and it also uninstalled Super SU. Finally, DME didn't recognize any sort of root any more.
See if you can find that option as well and use it the way described. If it's not working for you, it might be something within the kernel/mod/image you're using. Maybe you should give Quarx mod a try, it's working quite well! :fingers-crossed:
