Definitely do. Don't miss out!
Here, I'll help remove the mystery.

App looks like it would be awesome but without root I'm not able to control CPU so its not worth it for me. I use widgets to control everything that the program does and then I don't need to have it running in the backround

Glad that works for you. Me personally, I'd rather let an app do it. Then it can still let things in every so often without me doing anything. And the battery use is minimal in the background.
JuiceDefender works... it's a good application. The more time you spend setting it up correctly, the better it works. And having UltimateJuice is a must.
I don't believe in Taskillers as they are just taking up CPU cycles killing off applications that aren't even doing anything (read up on how Android works to understand this fully, mainly how it kills of application and how they can be open and dormant).
gonna give this a shot, thanks
What is the proper way to set up, or some decent configurations for Juice Defender? I've tried it but I really do not understand it at all.
Giving it a try on Fresh 3.1.0.1.

actually seems like a pretty good app, setcpu saves me so much battery already just by underclocking when the screen is off idk if i need to sacrifice my data connections. anyone know the benefits of ultimate juice?

If you set it up as I do in the video, I've found that its a very good balance.

Agreed on both accounts. You gotta go for UltimateJuice and I can't emphasize more that task killers really don't help. You're completely right on your points. The apps aren't doing anything. Android doesn't handle background apps poorly like a PC.

In the video I state the benefits of UltimateJuice. Also, with JuiceDefender you'll be able to underclock as you do with setcpu. Saves you a running app as well

I know...my cube is right next to the door with the director of my department going in and out of it all day long. So it's stealthier for me to watch a video on my desktop rather than my phone.

Oh, it's just a big advertisement for JuiceDefender. I thought it was providing some acutal tweaks and settings to change and some data to back it up.
Coming from the cliq rooted with a 2.1 rom, atk was a necessity IMO.But ive hard that task killers are not needed with froyo and that it hurts more than it helps. But ive noticed that even with atk on froyo, apps aren't being killed unless I go to settings/applications/manage apps to force close myself. Ive tried just not force closing or killing apps and ive noticed it being a memory hog and decrease in performance and battery, but thats just my own personal testing.
What's your opinion on task killers and such? do I need it or am I better of without one?

I am using "advanced app killer'. A number of stock apps will restart right after, but most others will not.
I use it right after starting up, and after closing some apps (they often keep running in background). I think this is helping materially with my battery life - which is fairly good.

is a horrible thing. the second u close an app and it instantly reopens itself your cpu shoots up 100% and you end up killing more battery by doing that.
Haven't seen the need for a task killer. I run System Panel app and what I'm seeing is the majority of the apps listed are on background and not taking up CPU power at all.
If anything, once I root, I'll probably use Autostarts just to minimize the number of apps that run at startup. But right now... not even necessary.

Hey everyone,
First time android user and absolutely loving it so far!
I was wondering how vigilant I need to be in killing off background apps? Coming from the iPhone, its a very different approach. I am just wondering if too many apps running has a negative effect on speed and battery life. How adept is the OS at killing off apps that I haven't opened in a while?
Thanks so much for the input. I am loving my Atrix!!

Starting with Froyo, Android became much more efficient with managing memory. I do not run a task manager on my DX, never kill any background processes, and my phone runs great all day long.
I only use task killer to make sure I don't have any constant data streaming while I'm not using the phone.
Thanks for the input. I will have to read up on froyo and multitasking efficiency. On the same note, can anyone recommend a battery indicator replacement? Is there a way to show a percentage using the stock one?
Thanks again.

Good point I forgot about. Since Verizon is still on unlimited data (for now), I never pay any attention to what runs in the background.
I too am new and did find one app that allowed multi-tasking, kinda like the windows version of alt-tab and also kill it it too. Very simple but sees be great so far. Called TaskSwitcher. I hold down the Search button and it brings all the "windows" in the background, can go to them or hold it down and kill them. Really impressed!
Meh, with this ophone, you don't really need to worry about background tasks slowing you down.
I used one to make sure there wasn't something big in the background draining the battery but other than that, it hardly ever slows down.
there is a small default app which works to save battery..i used it and found it really effective,it summarizes all battery eating stuff in one place.
if you have default 2.1 just go to application "support" and then click on tools and there you will find this battery optimiser
worked good for me,quick way to save juice

In the app drawer there is an app called Support. Once you run it there is a tab called tools. That's where it's at. The icon is a gear with a question mark on it.

yeah it is nothing NEW,all it do is ,it summaraizes all the battery eating stuff at one place,so it becomes really easy for everybody to do everything from there rather than going to millions of settings to do the same,i still have 85% after 12 hours with moderate usage.
.58 baseband
2.1 official
jit v2 and crap apps freezed
I am about to travel abroad, so I won't be able to use mobile internet at all and I really need the extra battery life, as I'm probably going to be wandering around all day!
So today, for testing purposes, I fiddled with the settings from this app, and in the last 12 hours I only lost 20%! That's quite awesome!
It's nice to have those settings gathered together!
Thanks for the find!
hmm, is there any way to get this app back on the phone?
one way for sure, PC Companion and Repair!
And second one would be... gimme moment.... made a Backup of ALL Apps. should finde it here somewhere... *searching*
Nope sorry, just made a Backup from all installed Apps and not Pre installed
P.S Here some Pictures of Battery Optimizer. Just found him out of curiosity 2 weeks ago ^^
Already had only 2 left when i found it ^^
I haven't this either and i just did a re-flash so all the apps are back and no "support" app at all :/
Ok, I found it in the thread of 'all 2.1 system apps'.
Here it is for whoever else wanted it.
Out of interest I tried to install on FreeX10 beta 4, but to no avail. What settings are you able to control? Is it like wifi/2+3G data/blue tooth on/off policies?
It's strange that this is so hard to find in 2.1 because 2.2 is the same way. There are many advanced settings hidden in the power control widget that have increased my battery life with 2.2 far beyond what I got with 2.1 optimized. Not to mention, I haven't come close to going over on my data plan for the first time, and no need to use APNdroid anymore. You would never know they were there if you didn't look for them. I wonder if this "hiding" is an attempt to run up our data plans and encourage battery sales?
@Batman_112, Good to see you made it out of the batcave. Lots been happening while you were away. Welcome back! ( ^o^) lol

Screen off animation help and setcpu with cm7!
My tv screen off animation worked for probably 1 hour before I downloaded apps... idk why it's gone but I would love to get it back without widgetlocker.
Also I have read people getting 15 + hours of battery life using setcpu I just want to know what I should set it to and if I should use screen off addition. Thanks

I have min set to 264 for pandora to work and max at 748. You may need to play with max since every hero can run 691, but not all can go higher.
hmmm, i had same problem with the tv screen off animation. i don't use setcpu i am using kifno's tweak. he has two, one for more battery life and one for more performance. reason i mention it is that when i flashed his tweak, suddenly my screen animation came back and has stayed.
Yeah ill try his tweak. I'm gonna go with battery rather than performance. Will I lose all my apps? It says I have to wipe I'm pretty sure

No you will not loose any apps. Mp= More performance and Bl=more battery life. Don't flash both. Just read the thread carefully, choose one and flash from recovery.

I just flashes battery life. I'm going to wait til completely dead but I see absolutely nothing different so far... is it just like signal strength and little boosts like that? And battery of course. Should there be another application? Something in my settings? It just seems too easy

You should really take the time to read the whole thread or as much as you can to understand how you are modifying your phone setup. The risk/benefits will/should be posted by the OP. Also user experiences and feedback will be posted there as well.
With that being said.
The BL mod will take time to setup you will not see an immediate extension in battery life untill you have properly calibrated your battery. However you should experience a boost in 3g dl/ul
speeds. This will be minimal compared to the Mp mod but should be better than stock.
The Mp tweak results should take effect immediately hence the name of the mod.
Basically you can't have both. Its either one or the other. I run the Mp tweak and it might help with your animations. This is my understanding of the mod. To gain a better perspective hop over to the thread and read or Pm the dev. He's on break now but I think he's answering Pm's. He's quick to respond and is a cool dev.
Well Good luck. If you want to try a mod and have read upon it and need any help let me know if I can I will.
