Hey Forum,
New to the smartphone world, finally replaced my old razr with a droid pro. Got it rooted, backed it up via ti pro, silenced droid startup sound, froze apps and changed side button to be another power key.
Now I would like to remove the slide lock without using no lock, so only the top and side key will unlock, not the whole keyboard. Would also like to reprogram the search key and remove the vibration from the home keys.
Could someone clue me in on how to do this or where to find a link? So far searches haven't come up with anything dro-pro specific for key reprogramming. I'm new to phone hacking but good at understanding code, just need a point in the right direction.
Thanks.

How did you silence the startup sound?
Use Root explorer:
System=>media
Rename droid.ogg to droid.old

I've looked 'n' read around and messed with the various theme apps but haven't been able to find any method to change the default Sense Home "All Programs" lower left triangular button function to display Mail or Messages. These are the two apps I use far more than anything and find myself having use of them on every screen.
I'd really love some way to either open something other than default or better, some way to remove the + button and add another like the left arrow there too so both of them can open Mail and Messages.
Any way that its possible? Thanks.

Install Helix 2 from the market. You'll lose Sense but you can make a tool bar on the bottom of the screen that holds 4 apps.
Thanks...
Tried that priorly, not really what I'm after here. Definitely not replacing Sense and my current config on it except for that lower bar. That is all I'm after tweaking.

You don't 'Lose' it at all, Sense is still there and you get asked to choose between the 2 anytime you do anything until you make one default.. even then, sense is still running in the backgound unless you manualy shut it down.
You're right. I just gave some of the variants a try including Launcher, HelixLauncher, Home ++ but it looks as if what I thought was HelixLauncher 2 was HelixLauncher. 2 is definitely quicker for me and better suited but still no way of adding one or two select apps which scroll open/close with such a lower bar menu button on any home screen you're on. Just as the All Programs do on Sense.

Just FYI, Home++ has two such buttons on the lower bar for opening all programs and bookmarks but they're not remappable to a function or app you'd like (which is what I'm after).

Hi,
its my second day with HTC Legend..
I love it, its totaly nice but i just have a quistion !
is there any way to give all keys the ability to wake up the device
then i touch the screen to unlock it ? i think it would be better than
waking up device by pressing Power key ! and it will save power key
pressing counts..
in other way the screen is already locked and we have to unlock it
after waking up the device !
so, Why not to "wake up" the Legend by pressing any key ?
i want to know why they did not put this option
and if there is any way to fix it ...
Thanks..
Hey man, had the same issue myself and a free app in the market fixed it.
Search nolock and grab it up

Check out the NeonMod or Azure ROMs. Both have the ability to wake screen using the trackball button or menu button.

HELP ME PLEASE !!!
There should be an app called Market. Android Market. It's where you go to download apps, which is the whole point of smartphones

hey ! i installed NoLock and its just disabling or enabling the HTC Lock screen , but still cant wake up the device by pressing other keys except Power key !! ...
I want any way, app or trick just to allow me wake up the device without power key, and i dont want to disable the "htc locked screen"
Please help me..
thanks all
Could you finally access the Android Market? If not, tap the screen on that left soft buton (the one with the small arrow) and a list with all installed apps will pop up.
Search for an icon called Market with an icon like a bag (someting like the one attached)
After pressing it you'll enter in "the market". Look for an application (you have a search at the top of the screen) called FlyScreen. It's a screen locking utility that brings you something similar to Froyo one, with lots of options (including placing widgets on the lockscreen). Besides that, press on any device buton to wake it up then slide it to unlock. The only bug I've found was that pressing Home buton wil give you the homescreen instantly, without the need to unlock the device.
Let me know if it's ok for you
no market in my device and noway to install it, i tried everything its something with software policy in some areas, and my phone is not rooted , i dont wanna break the warranty
Did anyone ever find a way - other than installing a custom ROM - to do this? It sounds like NoLock just enables/disables the lockscreen, and what I (and the OP) want is to be able to wake the screen up with the home or trackball button.
Any ideas?
Cheers
did you find any way ? am still looking but nothing found !
and i dont wanna root my phone..
it almost be impossible in a simple way without modifying "/system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl" file. But modifying this file requires real root or recovery mode.

Weird, because I was using No Lock and it removed lock screen and gave me an option to wake my Legend with press on any key. It basically wasn't a good idea, since I pressed vol up/down by accident far too many times.
The no lock app works. No lock and wakes up on any key including the volume keys (not a good idea). The widget solves my problem though. I keep it unlocked when at work, but keep it locked otherwise. Doing it manually now.
Would love an app that can do it automatically
Guys, I told you that you can use FlyScreen for what you need. For those who don't have access to the Android Market, I've found a topic on this forum that has also link to download the .APK from MegaUpload (you find the link HERE)
With this small application, you're replacing the default lockscreen and also you can wake the phone by pressing any hard button not only power. The drawback is that pressing Home, will get you on the homescreen without need for unlock. Test it if you like, anyhow the application is free.
Yeah, I got flyscreen but I can't figure out how to make it work.
When I enable "Lockscreen mode", every time I go to unlock my phone I get a "Please wait" message before I can actually unlock it. Even though I don't have any widgets on Flyscreen.
Does this happen with you?
No, for me worked from the beginning without any problems. I've initially used the weather widget but the red color was hurting my eyes so I've disabled it.
I don't know what advice to give, there are plenty of settings to try and you should also check their homepage for tips.
I recently updated to DJ05 with both Super Clean .9 and Stupid Fast (Whatever the newest is.) A day later, everything is working fine except when I try to longpress to move a shortcut or widget. I receive a small vibration but no ability to move. I'm using Adwlauncher, as well.
Does anyone know what could cause this?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I have noticed the new adw launcher has an option to lock the desk top. If u press the menu soft key it may say unlock desk top. Just something to try sounds like it may be the cause
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
The latest ADW version kills long press. No idea why, it just does. Switch to LP or Touchwiz and you get the button back. Shortcut apps from the market have no effect. It caused me to buy LP+ and I regret not doing it sooner.
Lastly, this should be in general, not development.
ya if u mean voice search via long press of the search key it is messed up. However there is a work around for this as well. Double press the search key first to open the search then long press it to get to voice search. However in your original post it sounds more like the desktop is locked to me just unlock it and should be good
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
The desktop was indeed locked. Thank you guys.

anyone here have any idea how to wake the device using volume button?
i tried editing all file within the /system/usr/keylayout folder but to no avail.
this should've work but it doesn't seem so.
If you look in the playstore you can find an app called smartcove or something like that. It wakes your device up when you take the cover off. Definitely this is not what you want but it's still an option

So I just got my dock a week or so ago and I'm loving it. Hardly ever take it off now. I especially like the shortcut keys. I was just wondering if there is anyway to change what the keys do when pressed? I hardly ever use the menu key because most of ICS/JB got rid of it. However it would be nice to change that key to say open my recently used apps or anything else really lol. I also was curious about changing what apps are open. So when I use the browser button the stock ics browser wont open but chrome will. Or I can change my settings button to just show notifications.

I have also been very interested in figuring out this. From what i have seen, there is a file located in /system/usr/keylayout/asusdec.kl. If you open the file as a text document it shows you the key layout. It also looks like key139 is the "menu" key. I am sure we could change this one entry and copy it back into place to change the mapping, but i do not know what key word to use for the recent apps menu. If we could find this key word, we could edit the file to change the mapping. Does any one know the keyword to use to map the recent apps to a key?
Update: If you edit this .kl file and change key139 to read APP_SWITCH. The key will now bring up the recent apps menu. The only problem is it brings up the old looking recent apps. I am looking into how i can make it bring up the new app switch menu.
Interesting. Maybe getting a hold of Asus and asking them for the keywords would be nice. I wonder if they would have that information or be willing to give it out. Until then we can just keep messing with them and see what they do lol.

Plus it would be nice to have the lock button also turn the display on. I am running the CM10 build out there so i'm not sure if it does it on stock but would be a cool feature.

Unfortunately the lock button doesn't unlock even on the stock ROM. I'll be watching this thread closely to see if you guys figure out a workaround. Maybe a semicolon between commands to send multiple commands at once? Who knows.

To be able to unlock using the keyboard lock key:
You can go to the settings (in stock atleast) -> Asus settings -> Battery saving -> untick the mobile dock option.
I assume this requires rooting? And another thing, have you tried changing the browserbutton to Chrome or any other browser?
Does anyone know if I edit this file /system/usr/keylayout/asusdec.kl. and completely turn it into a garbled mess, will it potentially brick my device ( I'll back up the file of course ) I just wnat to ensure if I reboot after making a change to it and I've made a mistake will it stop my device booting ? I've only rooted my tf300 and it's still locked....

This issue exists in many places. However, its rather difficult to fix and requires a flash of a patch to fix. I had to do it on ics aokp on my phone... I found someone who would do make the patch for me. However that was aokp, and I don't think it would work here. Also, it requires an unlocked loader.

This is useful, just tried it on my TF700. However, now it looks like the screen lock doesn't work. That is to say, when I wake with a key on the dock, there is no slide lock, just comes right back to the Launcher screen. Sounds like that could be a bit of a security issue, honestly.
Also, since the option specifically mentions it drains battery (assumedly from continuously polling from input from the dock), I think I'll wait until this is sorted out a bit better.
This is kind of annoying, tho. Having the TF right here next to me like a laptop, but not being able to wake it with this nice huge keyboard dock...
