Wondering if anyone else is having this issue. My screen will dim randomly while in the middle of use and I have no idea why. I'm not talking about the auto-dim that occurs before the screen turns off. I also have auto brightness turned off. I seem to notice it happen right after pressing a hard key, like back or home. When it happens, it seems to un-dim itself after I long press on the screen or switch applications. It doesn't happen every time I use a hard key and it does happen when not using a hard key at all. It's not application-specific but it seems to occur often while using the Market and NewsRob.
For example, I'll be looking at an app in the market and right after I hit the back button to return to, say, search results, the screen will be noticeably dimmer. Normally long pressing or switching out of the app to something else corrects the issue, but I can't pinpoint exactly what causes it or what fixes it.
I downloaded the AdjBrightness app because it has the option to lock other applications from changing my set brightness level, but the issue persists.
Anyone else experience this? I'm on 2.2.1 (2.3.340) but I noticed it with 2.3.320 as well.
never had that issue, I'm on .340. sounds like a hardware issue. Just speculation though

Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing a very weird problem, with my Trinity (actually a p3600i).
When I'm using my thumb or fingers to type on any SIP, sometimes the start button is pressed even though I'm no where near the start button!
I'm not sure if it's happened when NOT using SIP.
I've noticed that it only happens when using my thumb/fingers. If I use my nails to type the problem never happens. Same when using the stylus, no problems...
Anyone know what is going on here? It can be very annoying sometimes.
Thanks for reading!
OK I just made it happen when just in the today screen.
Doesn't just happen when using any SIP...
Happens when I'm tapping in the bottom left region of the screen in portrait mode.
you are not alone
have the same problem, occurs couple of times a day, and as you noticed when using fingers. we are not the only ones, many (really!) trininty users report the same problem. finally it may result in widely known problem related to flickering start menu button and irreactive touchscreen.
i noticed one more thing: when you disable sound for screen taps from sounds and notifications menu the erratic reactoin seems to go away, not completely, though because i still manage to cause false start menu activation by chaotic screen tapping in phone mode.
read this topic, sorry to disappoint you but imho this is our nearest future

looks like i will need to send it to them for repairs
and nothing ever returns back the same, when it goes to get repaired
hey i downloaded extended control power widget. and when i pressed the brightness button. the screen went black and touch doesnt seem to respond (tried tapping the same place to bring it back...)
the phone is still awake as i can hear lock sounds and such. but i cant get brightness back up at all.
is there a way to fix this? i would assume adb or something
or possibly a script i could load on reboot into android?
Try holding your phone under a very bright light and play a little with the angle. You should see your widgets. This fixed it for me
Try this:

thanks, that worked. it at first seemed as though the touch wasnt responding.
but it seems i accidentally moved the widget in my frustration LOL so i was hitting a blank spot.
So I've noticed that if I leave my phone on for a long period of time. Usually for over a day that when I go to text someone the keyboard will lock up or be distorted. Such as if you try to turn the phone sideways only half the keyboard will be there and samething when you turn it back. Or the keyboard will be there but when you push the keys nothing works or responds. Sometimes the keyboard wont even be present and I can't type a single thing. I can back out of it and use my phone like normal. The only way I've found to fix this issue is to just power off the phone and start it back up again. Let me know if anyone else has a solution to this problem or has experienced it.
I just experienced this last night only what happend to me was my key presses were being registered way above or below where I was typing. Soon as I turned it off tho it went away.

Hi Guys,
Are any of you noticing a long delay after you press the power button? I feel like it can be a few seconds from when I press it to when the screen actually turns on. Not only is this incredibly annoying, but it also seems to be affecting phone calls. I am not able to answer/decline before my phone stops ringing in some situations.
Any way around this?
Thanks
u have setcpu ?
edit:
fyi i have setcpu with screenoff profile, but no delay
Or are you using Widget locker or widgetoid?
I just uninstalled widgetlocker... It was installed but not in use. I will see if this helps.
I am seeing the same issue. I am currently on gingerblur beta 5, and am still seeing the delay just like I was on stock. Very annoying.

Yea, still a bit of a delay. My captivate was instant on (as any phone should be)...
no delay here

I am seeing this occasionally and I am using WidgetLocker. Is there a setting I am using worng or is it just an known issue with WL on this phone?
I think WL is the culprit. My screen is MUCH quicker since uninstalling it.
I think he's talking about a delay from the time you push the power button to the time the screen turns on.
I had that happening to me for a couple days and it was really annoying. I did a power-off, then power back on and it seems to be back to normal for the past day. I never used WidgetLocker, so it couldn't be because of that.

I'm using WidgetLocker and fairly heavily modified...and it doesn't have a delay like this.
Never had it... then a couple days ago it started, then I just pulled the battery and its fine again
I noticed no delay initially, but after I installed widgetlocker I noticed a slight delay. I'm using the volume rocker to wake the screen typically.
no WL here, running launcher pro. I do notice an annoying delay. Not terrible, but still annoying
Yeah, sometimes getting a bit of a delay. Sometimes it takes as much as a minute for the screen to turn on (not reacting to button press). But generally, the phone catches itself after that, and everything is ok for a couple of days.
Every now and then, it would restart when this issue appears. Maybe once per week or so. No biggie for me.
I use my phone a ton for calls , imagine that .
Lately when I put a call on speaker, the screen will not turn off. It will not time out and even if I press the power button to shut the screen off manually, it just comes right back on.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so have you been able to correct it?
p.s. this has only been happening in the past week or so and I can't think of anything I did or any updates that would have caused this.
Thanks
I'm experiencing this same thing. Tried multiple things and even did a hard reset and the issue still persists. Very annoying.
I found a workaround where if I come out of the phone app, then I can lock the screen.
got the same thing. i read something on AC( think it was) regarding the calendar notifications not allowing the screen to go dark too. i wake up, my phone is super hot if i have an all day appt with a notification. did yall find a fix to this? the other forum mentioned possible connection to samsung pay.
Having the same issue. The screen does not turn off when holding the phone to my ear or when I'm using bluetooth headset.
