I notice there are a few different ROM's for the DHD, some with Sense some without.
Whats the actual difference, does Sence in some way slow the phone down?
I use the clock, friends feed, messages, mail, agenda and the music widgets.
However the one thing that I really dont like is the slide down thing that sense brings, I much prefer the press/slide left/right that you get with the plain Android builds.
So, are there advantages to running a more vanilla android version with some widgets over the sense style ROMs.
I am on mike1986's Android Revolution.
I myself believe sense itself make things sense. For instance the iPhone-like copy&paste.
But yeah you're right it's huge and clumsy. But that's why desire hd has such big ram. I feel sick for not getting full advantage of my device.

If you root the phone using VISIONary+ you can delete/rename the Lockscreen.apk I believe and it will return to the vanilla lockscreen. As for jazzy widgets that's a Sense thing, unless you buy and install LauncherPro over ADW.Launcher, LauncherPro has People, Bookmarks, Calaendar, Messaging, Twitter, Facebook & Friends widgets that can be used. There is also music widget control using Cyanogen.
I find sense slow and garish, it slows down the phone for no good reason, ASOP ROMs are much lighter and look, IMO, much prettier and unique.

I got rid of my Sense just recently, I prefer the phone this way, Sense just took too much space, try other Launchers out, if you prefer it, I suggest you try out the Cyanogen ROM, which I have done. A whole lot better.
i dont get it, people who have cyanogen seem to think its LOADS better, but its not though is it, iv used it on the hero and now running it on dhd.
its ok, just more theming options and alot uglier imo, dont like contacts, or phone or music or many of the default apps
thats where sense is LOADS better, its alot easier and nicer to use, has better features
saying this im on cyanogen and really cnt be assed to change back otherwise i would, and i wanna try ginger out when its out
apart from that sense blow cyanogen out the water

People like the simplicity of Cyanogen. Sense slows even the DHD down, it's aweful. And to boot pretty much everyone with an Android phone has it. It's better to be unique.
you think sense slows dhd down? yeh it makes it sooooo laggy, i get no slow downs using sense and never had not even on hero
people just go with what most say, to make themselves feel "unique", its mainly down to the rom dev if it has lag or not, although it ironic you say your unique for using cyanogen just like allll the others

Scroll down to the bottom of your app drawer and look at the lag as it reaches the bottom, and open your SMS's and scroll, notice the lag. Sense isn't well coded. And of all the people on XDA how many do I know personally? None. How many of my collegues and friends have Android phones? Lots, how many have Cyanogen? None. That makes it unique.

Point well made.
I really can't notice nay slow down due to Sense whatsoever. I really do think that someone should clearly "sell" the advantages of dumping Sense, other than just plain old enthusiasm for hacking something. I think it is more down to aesthetics than anything else. Try other ROMs and see if you like them, you might. I like the fact that HTC have at least tried to add value to Android.
A further irony is having come from the Magic I can vouch for the fact that much effort was put into porting Sense to that plain Android phone.
Sorry, no lag when I scroll my SMS or App drawer. The DHD can definitely deal with the demands of Sense.
Sense is pretty cool and only lags if you try to make it. I think that if all Android phones came with Cyanogen as the stock ROM then the Sense ROM would be a massive hit. Cyanogen is definitely a good choice because it's clean and fast but until i actually need my Desire HD to run faster and more efficiently i won't use it. That's why i will go sort of halfway and flash a cooked sense based ROM like Leedroid.

look at what lag? my app draw runs fine using launcher pro plus, sms's all run with no lag difference than cyan, just cyan is uglier
who says sense isnt well coded? its coded for normal peole who dont want to run and say i hacked my phone now everyone else says its loads faster so it must be
fair enough benchmarks might say it but is it noticeable? no

I have to admit I didn't try it out on desire hd but I tried it when I'm with a hero. Say, cyan is for dev and sense is for users. Whatever you get what you want.

Lol, LauncherPro isn't the default launcher, so on a Sense based ROM it will be faster, I am simply pointing out that stock Sense, totally stock launcher and all, lags.
We could argue until the cows come home which is better, but I prefer the alternative that is Cyanogen. At least then I can have a totally black and white theme which is what I like. And it's only recently I have switched to ASOP previously I used a Sense based ROM on my Desire, but craved the ASOP lockscreens and dialer.
If we move to another ROM apart from sense, does this mean that we will be losing some features like "louder ring in the bag, flip over the phone for quite" etc... ?
Does Cyanogen ROM provide these all?

You loose louder ring but flip to silence still works. You do loose quite a few of the jazzy features of Sense.

Is there any exact list showing sense features we will be losing? I guess that's important to know before deciding to move a different ROM, right?

Not that, I know of. Sense Copy & Paste is one of them, there is no magnification window when you copy and paste on the DHD, and the louder ring, that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

lol who said it had to be standard? sense comes with to much bloatware, so i remove most of it
have you tried this theme addon? http://classical-gas.blogspot.com/2010/12/jamt-htc-desire-cyanogenmod-610rc2.html
works real nice i have cyan set up alight atm but hopefuly not long till the ginger comes along
I am back on a sense rom. Rcmixhd since adfree and other components work correctly unlike on the other sense roms I've tried. I used to love Cyanogen on my Nexus One but the new sense is very slick indeed.
It does not lag. It does take a little longer to boot and use more memory but who cares when we have so much ram on the dhd. I don't know how the amount of room it takes can be an issue either considering we have 1.5gb rom. I still have 0.9gb free with 54 apps installed.
tbh I still love cyanogenmod but its htc locations which is keeping me on sense. Its the best android offline navigator I've tried in terms of routing here in New zealand and I love the fact I can just buy a cheap 1 month subscription for navigation in another country when I go overseas. Any other app one is forced to buy a complete package for that country at considerably larger cost.

I really don't like the Sense launcher, I use adw, but sense has lots of little modifications that are just nice to have. Text selection, quick lookup, freaking awesome dialer, flip to speaker etc
I'm running android revolution hd, no lags, excellent battery (whole day with pretty heavy use. Needs charging every night but I can use all the phones features as much as I like and not give the battery a second thought) also 2400 in quadrant. So all in all i really rate sense.

You can't just disable sense, it IS the UI and for all intents (lol) and purposes, the OS. Vanilla Google Android 2.1 is a different kernel than Android HTC Sense 2.1, so it has to be replaced, lock stock and barrel. Go over and look at the Dream forums, the Sense&Espresso camp is quite different from the Donut, Eclair, Froyo camp. If you've ever used linux, the difference between Gnome distros and KDE distros is a pretty apt (lol) comparison. They can run each others' programs (usually), but they are built up from the kernel differently. So like the other dude said, just wait a sec

There's some serious work to be done unless we get some test keys. Don't think that customs ROMs will be coming within the next week.
You can start by using a different launcher. I like launcherpro from the market. Its really nice and fast compared to sense. Once you install a new launcher, make sure you set it as your default and then reboot your phone.
You can also remove a lot of sense apps while in recovery. Just be careful what you remove. Some things are needed or your phone will boot loop or you might get a mess if fc's upon rebooting. you might want to try just renaming them first to see if there is any bad side effect before actually removing it. You can also copy the apps you remove to your phone for backup purposes. Be careful 'cuz I am not responsible for you bricking your phone.

So we basically we should just wait for a fresh 2.1 rom from one of our devs, Ill just sit here and twittle my thumbs in the mean time
If twiddling thumbs (as I am doing) isnt working for you, the other option is to become a developer. No better way to make things happen than to do it yourself! I dont have the time and patients to learn Android right now, it just isnt plausible....so I wait.
As far as the launcher goes, that isnt the portion of Sense I dont like. The launcher is usable. Its the OSK, the phone screens, etc. I tried the launchers, but it wasn't what I am after. I want a plain Jane Vanilla rom, like my Nexus had.

I agree with you all I want is simple android 2.1 (or 2.2) without all the verizon crap they feel I need on my phone
Just use AWD or Launcher Pro... you won't see anything sense related using those unless you hunt for it.
if you think this is true, you have never used a vanilla rom. The phone, dialer screen, contact screen, etc are all still Sense (and junk to navigate and use). They are not related to launcher. I have used both Launcher Pro and ADW (not AWD) with the same result.

I have used both.... and after giving sense a try and not listening to others.... I actually prefer it over vanilla... everything works better imo with better integration.
...and thats fine for you...but not really correct to say that a Launcher will remove the feel of Sense. There is enough room in this world for Coke AND Pepsi...as well both Vanilla and Sense roms
Cyanogen based ROMs are the best. Sense sucks ... IMO.
Sent via my rooted Incredible
I "replaced" my SenseUI with ADW, and it works great. I say "replaced" because by installing ADW or Launcher Pro, you're only replacing the UI part of Sense. Sense will still run underneath. Until custom ROMs come (which won't happen until we get an unlocked NAND), that's what we've got.
I am really looking forward to getting Froyo. I came from a Moto Droid where I had just recently installed Froyo, and it was so fast. I actually like the Incredible more because of the better screen and lighter feel with no keyboard, but the Droid was so much faster on Froyo it almost makes me want to go back until they get the Incredible figured out.
I think if you came from WinMo and are used to Sense then you will like it on Android. If not then most will hate it.
Not to clutter this post or change subject
I dont see you you can say the screen on the incredible is better. I have both and I still think the Moto droids screen is better higher res and easier to see in sunlight. again its my opinion.
Dont get me wrong they are very close in resolution but the Moto droid is slightly higher. Inside with no sun on them they are very close I'll give it that.
I for one like Sense, well I am not running a Sense ROM now I do miss a few things. So I wanted to see what people dis like and like about it and well maybe help some of us out. You know, finding way to forget about Sense.
I am running Cyanogenmod 6.0.0 now.
Like:
1: Flash {Cant find a work around}
2: Widgets
a: Peep {There is twitter but I like how dark peep is}
b: Friend Stream
c: Calender {Cant find a replacement }
d: Contact {Contact Widget does a great job as a replacement }
3: The ringer getting low when you pick up the phone {Cant find a work around}
Other than that, I cant say I miss Sense all to much, to tell the truth I am really liking adw launcher.
But if you have anything that helps replace what Sense does give you should add a list and if you are just missing something you should ask here, maybe one of us will be able to help you out.

I like AOSP because it is much faster than Sense regardless of what you do to speed it up. I love the look of sense, but after buying a couple of apps and downloading others I can say that I do not miss Sense.
LauncherPro Plus-He is working on Sense like widgets. I now use this instead of Rosie.
Beautiful Widgets or Fancy Widgets- imitates Weather and clock from Sense. You'll have to find a fancy widget download online as they had a C&D order from HTC.
Extended Controls- Allows more options than the power control widget
CalWidget-Calander Widget on your home screen. I think you can change text and background color with this one.
I'm not a social networking freak so I don't care about those, but I know that they will get friendstream working on aosp. And you can still get all the other apps for aosp.
There is a setting somewhere to change the ringer volume on phone movement. I don't have CM6 flashed anymore, but I know its in the settings somehwere

Fyi nfinitefx45 just got jit working on a sense rom. I'm using it on my red dawn as I type. I'm getting between 4.4-4.8 on linpack and that's with all the extra crap I've got on my rom.
The days of saying aosp is faster is at an end. I've got no lag. Running smooth and extremely fast plus have sense and all the Widgets that come with it.
Sense will find a way onto froyo eventually and will be just as fast as aosp
It really does seem that AOSP can be just as great as Sense as far as cosmetics. So the only thing left is flash, is there any way to get flash working on ASOP 2.1 or the 2.2 we have now?
Thank you all for the great input!

What about quadrant?
Some will never give up on Sense. I used to hate AOSP. I didn't like the look and missed all the extra's found in Sense.Right now I keep switching between froyo and Sense. If only someone could get all the sense apps working with AOSP.
Flash will never come to the hero because it's not built for it. I love sense, but i've learned to get by in froyo. The main thing I miss is the nice widgets, but there are some nice replacements in the market. I use digiclock widget and the weather channel. For twitter, seesmic is better than anything and it is fast. Launcher pro will let you customize your bottom row just about any way you want and will let you have 7 home screens like sense. If you have your homescreen laid out just how you like it in sense, then it's not that hard to recreate it in AOSP, unless you use a lot of sense Widgets.

We've had Flash for quite a while now.
Sense just seems like a waste of memory to me. Everything can be duplicated with Market widgets.
I really wish I knew what people saw in it, I hate it with a passion.
The way I see it is, Sense UI does offer things that other phones dont have and HTC has stayed a head of the game a little by giving us all just a little bit extra (flash)
On top of that, how many themes are out there for AWR or Luncher Pro? Well Sense if at heart a big theme, Things are made to go to gather and its simple and dark.
But anyway, How do we get Flash with out Sense?

Have you tested the new sensebuild /w jit on quadrant? It is a better benchmark than linpack, if for no other reason than it tests more than floating point calculations.

Curious to see what people think: for those who were on VU and then flashed to the new Doubleshot ROM, what are your impressions? Can you compare the 2 a bit? Which do you prefer and why?
I'm on VU beta and it is SO smooth and pretty, I'm having a hard time convincing myself to try the new DS. But being able to remove the mysense icon blocks is a big help.
What benefits are there to the DS ROM over VU? Any? I know some differences are DS has only 5 homescreens, the new Sense dock bar, the potential to go landscape rosie (but apparently not on our phones). What else? Seems like a big loss to lose the VU lock screen shortcuts...is there a big difference in speed/performance? I can't imagine another Sense 3.0 ROM being any faster than VU beta.
Thanks for your thoughts

Hmm, interesting advice. Why didn't I think of that?
Anyone else?
p.s. in general I agree with you, best way to know is to try it yourself - but I'm at work, and it will be a while before I can flash it. But I can sneak onto the forums here and there to whet my appetite, so I'm asking for opinions.
DS is the 3.0 revision of mySense...While VU is Sense 3.0. DS is limited in ways like no lockscreen shortcuts, less homescreens, and other things, why is this? Well because it's mySense, which is a slimmed down version on Sense. It ditched the mySense dock, for a new one, that's customizable. It features all the Sense 3 widgets, and has a new one called mytouch widget. Both are very similar in speed, but I haven't tried the latter-i've only tried the DS build from daddyc. Since both are Sense 3 they'll have similar speeds, but DS may be quicker since it's slightly toned down. Less homescreens could lead to a faster experience on the homescreen, and potentially a lower RAM usage.

Thanks. Yeah as far as I can tell the only bonus DS has over VU is the customizable dock, and I guess possibly a lighter build hence quicker performance. I'm sure it's a great ROM but I don't see enough reasons to make the jump from VU, which now on the beta has been absolutely stellar.
Hope no one minds this relatively pointless thread, just thought it might be a subject of interest since I know both of these Sense 3.0 ROMS will be very popular.
I personally like it better so far, the main plus is much less ram usage that VU was giving me, plus the dock bar is nice
I love them both, keep switching back and forward

DS is mySense thus the lighter burden on RAM, but tbh I don't see any reasons to change from VU->DS or DS->VU. The experience you'll have on either will be similar anyway. I personally prefer the sense dockbar over the new one in DS.

I tried the DS port for all of 5 minutes before I restored back to unity... I just couldn't deal with 5 homescreens and no shortcuts on the lockscreen.. But this is only my opinion... It is quite smooth, though
well i got to say i tried them both and switched back to evil d unity beta its much more smoother all i need is ffc 2 work and the battery is the same for both did not notice a difference actually i believe i get better battery with evil's unity beta and much more smoother
how can i get the beta

Thanks for your thoughts

i tried vu and it has some cool features, BUT, like all the other roms i've tried, i just keep coming back to cm7 (which i hope they will update sometime). i like the simplicity, and it all just works.... also..... a major plus i like.... you can increase the font size for your contacts in vanilla gingerbread.... this makes looking up the right number when a contact has several to choose from.... for some reason... the sense roms leave out this nice little feature...... another BUT.... i will probably try out the VU rom again just because it does have coolness all over it...

I also like cm7, usually when I go back to AOSP that means cm7. I tried the new RC1 and really liked it, the lock screen gestures were super cool, great for shortcuts.
But ultimately every time I try AOSP I come back to Sense based ROMS, because the peripheral apps, i.e. dialer, music, camera, are so much better IMO. I'm thinking of actually trying the No-Sense mod on the DesireHD forums. It takes a Sense ROM and removes everything BUT those peripheral apps, removes most other launcher-related things, so you can run an AOSP launcher over a stripped down Sense. Sounds like the best of both worlds.

Okay I tried it. It runs very fast now but the personalize menu doesn't work. So a quick fix was to re-flash the rom and set the lockscreen icons the way I wanted and then flash the script. Also, the script removes the sense weather which I didn't like but I was able to get it back by going here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13460723. The only thing is the animations don't work so it's just a black screen with the weather info but that's good enough for me. I also replaced LauncherPro with ADW EX. I've been using the phone pretty heavily and battery life has been way better.

Wow - awesome, thanks for sharing! What sense ROM are you running it over? So is it pretty much like an AOSP ROM with Sense camera, dialer, and music?
I dont think HTC has decided what to do with sense after seeing ics , most of the funcionality they offer wasnt present on any android version until gingerbread and now ics includes most of those, do you think they're going to do something similar to windows phone and use almost stock android but with their apps and services like weather, htc sense account etc?
I personally despise sense and hope HTC starts to give us little android virgins, but I am sure for marketing purposes they will keep cramming there software on there products so they have some claim to originality.

ICS has a feature that all apps can be disabled (equivalent to 'freezing' in titanium backup - not removed but can't run)

If you root you can have anything you like - try CM7 (and when released, CM9 with ICS).

What kind of functionality did sense add? It was very pretty and the widgets were very good (calendar, for example) - but did it add any extra features?
I actually like Sense. Of all "major frameworks" like TouchWize and Blur and what not, Sense comes on TOP (my opinion only).
Now, can we live without sense? Perfectly.
Will HTC abandon Sense in ICS? Doubt it.
P.S. i run a rom with Sense daily... so.. biased
I hope so. I hate sense. I only like the widgets and the social network integration on the contacts app. After getting rid of sense my phone became faster and battery lasts longer.
But now, the stock launcher and features of ICS is better than sense. Even the widgets looks better now.
But i doubt they will remove sense 100%. I just wish that they won't be changing the stock ICS UI that much.

This is my point! Pick Sense, remove social integration, custom widgets, dialer, sms app, and all the other minor things, and yout get AOSP. And the you miss those things.
I agree, Sense IS HEAVY. But for what it does, it's the best. How many apps would one have to install on AOSP to get the full sense functionality? And how slower would that device be with that amount of apps interchaining themselves?
^
in short. ditch sense for the ICS UI
HTC will always add there own interpretation on what they think Ice Cream Sandwich will look like, and that is the way it is. But what I do hope is that they build on top of what Google has done instead of stripping everything out.
For example, mail apps, people apps are not stock and they should try to keep it true to what Google intended and maybe use the API that are exposed by Google to add there on stuff on top.
Also they should try to build a launcher that is not so heavy integrated to how the whole OS works, instead decouple it away so if there are updates needed to the OS it can fit nicely on top.
So no I don't think Sense will fade away, but I do hope the way they implement it is as close to stock as possible, just adding features on top of it.
i don't see the point in complaining about this since pretty much all of us here on this forum have the ability to root and just install vanilla ROM, or whatever you want
for the average user (NOT US!) HTC don't seem to do a pretty decent job with Sense, since developers here can prepare some very highly optimised versions. What i would prefer is for HTC to look at the ROMs present over here and take note.
I run RCMix HD sense 3.5 daily without any problems at all and while comparing it to my brother's iPhone 4, 9 times outta 10 this ROM is as smooth as or even smoother, and lets be fair as far as UI customisations go, HTC are alot further ahead than everyone else, but if they realise the potential in their own skin as the developers have shown, they could take a really hard fight to Apple as far as usability goes (hopefully with less lawsuits than samsung have).
HTC is not gonna remove sense 100%, as they mentioned before they gonna take it to next level sense 4.
So get ready

HTC do something different with Sense and it's one of the reasons I (and others I know) bought an Android phone over another platform. The Sense UI seems to be much better than Touchwiz etc. (tried on Galaxy SII and was not a fan) - phones are a very personal choice at the end of the day and with Android we are a bit spoilt for choice between manufacturers.
Whatever HTC do now that Ice Cream Sandwich is inbound I look forward to their progress as they seem to be my preferred manufacturer right now, if I don't like what they come up with then I can always opt for the Galaxy Nexus or (judging by XDA currently) end up rooting and put stock a ICS ROM on there anyways.
I'm using sense and I must say I like it, when I saw the ics video launch it looked really similar to sense.
I really want to see what HTC is going to do and I hope it won't take too long...
Mymy, i love Sense, i have a Sense ROM in my phone everyday! I always thought that stock Android is ugly, but after i've seen ICS, i am ready to switch to ICS without regrets !
i concur with the observations of everybody one on this thread, sense is some times heavy , most times resource hungry but the most important aspect of it is the packaging, i tried every rom available here on XDA and found when i was on CM i always had to download additional stuff say for my calender's, social networking, word processing (apps to open .doc's and other stuff) and crucial of them camera !!! i am sure many will agree MIUI cam is heck of a lot better then what CM has !. But when i'm back on sense roms (RCmix,ARhd or lee) i dont need get these extra stuff.
The way is see it,if we are going to build some thing to have integration of various different aspects of using your phone with third party applications you are bound to have a heck up here or there but then its quite hard to see those kinda of heck ups happening on any these sense roms even on the beta one's ! so i guess coming from a sony branded x10 with there stupid philosophy and launcher , i believe integration and stability are the key factors of sense, the only other rom that i found such level of integration sans few heck ups are the MIUI roms but then there always the battery drain issue on them.
So as for ICS i believe HTC should try to carry the kind of integration they have sans the resource hunger nature of sense launcher , take some notes from other oem launchers like touchwiz where the complete os experience is not themed.
Just my observations
Actually i like sense but stock ICS looks promising to me. Would love to see a stock ICS with some sense widgets tho

Exactly. I love how light and smooth CM feels but its just a whole lot more easier and convenient to have everything put on a platter in front of you....like Sense does. Especially with the social integration aspect in the people app and the calender.
Although an AOSP ICS Rom night change all of that for good. We do seem to have improvements in the contacts and calender apps.

Agree with this post totally... but what I am hoping now is that ICS is much better on a UI point of view that HTC would not need to change so much of the OS and just tweak it a bit to add a bit of differential. This hopefully mean that it won't be so heavy. But then saying so, HW acceleration will help so much in transitions on the UI that maybe it won't feel as heavy.
I feel HTC should add on top of the existing UI instead of stripping and re-writing most of the Google Code.
Sense is definitely one of the best UI customizations available for Android. The focus on social integration is its biggest strength. At the same time its so heavy that it brings my phone to a standstill sometimes, which makes me want to just go back to AOSP now and then.
To get to the point, I doubt HTC will let Sense fade away that easily. It is their identity, and as MrKaon already mentioned, they're going to take it to the next level. Because ICS has a lot of that functionality now built in, I'm hoping HTC will rework Sense to make it much lighter. I'm eager to see what more they do with it !
Just wondering what people like about sense and any/all of the sense roms? I don't mean this to bash anybody's favorite rom and definitely not bashing any developers, I respect all the time and effort that's gone into any custom rom. I just wanted to know what I'm missing and/or if I just haven't given any enough quality time yet. Every time I've tried one it's just seemed a bit laggy and slow compared with some of the other rom's I've tried based on cm7. Again, don't start flaming me, I want to hear objective, reasonable reasons why you sense people like it.
The last time I used Sense was on my HTC Hero before I tried CyanogenMod. What I think Sense does right is it provides a UI and functionality where everything just works the way you would expect them to, without needing additional tweaking or apps. For example, there is no denying that the HTC dialer is infinitely superior to the AOSP dialer. I find it incredibly ironic that a glorious top-of-the-line smart phone cannot do something like smart (T9) dialing of contacts, something every single dumbphone can do. Also, since the beginning of Sense, the mail, phone, and text messaging icons automatically display an unread count badge on them, which I think everyone can appreciate. If you want that in AOSP you have to install separate widgets (like SMS Unread Count) or different home launchers that pretty much only enthusiasts would look for. HTC Sense also gives power controls and other shortcuts in the notification pull-down whereas stock AOSP does not (unless you're using CyanogenMod, which again, is only for enthusiasts). Also, I imagine that people also like the overall refined look (clean, dual-tone textures) that Sense provides over AOSP's rather plain and basic look. Just my two cents.
i hate sense but i can't live without it

The ONLY thing i miss about Sense is the zoom function of most included camcorder apk's. Not sure if it's something that can ONLY be achieved with sense but I've never seen it on non sense roms.

- Clock app ( alarm, timer, stop watch) all in one
- contextual menus
I dont use sense launcher, I more like launcher pro.

I just love Sense, tried other ROM's but couldn't get used to the UI which was a bit boring. Of course you can modify it all yourself, but I like the ready-to-go package Sense provides me. Now running Virtuous Affinity and Sense 3.5 looks great!
I wonder if it's what you get used to, in other words I wonder if I gave it more time and forced myself to use it for an extended period I'd get to like it more?
Sense is great for its integration with the ROM. in other words, if you prefer to have a GUI and sense's style happens to click with you, then it's awesome.
ofcourse. the dialer is best.

Internet passthrough =/= tethering. Internet passthrough is when you plug your phone through the USB to your PC and uses your PC's connection. Tethering is using your phone's data FOR the PC.

I know the difference between both. I could've sworn the older roms that I use for the DZ offered internet passthrough as well. I wasn't referring to tethering.
when it WORKS (as in doesn't encounter force closing) it is one of the smoothest and most intuitive interface's i've ever seen. I'll admit, it has problems and is still in need of work, it does take some CPU and RAM away from other things but over-all it is a beautiful UI and one of the most interesting and beautiful UIs of all of the custom ones out there. Now, with that said, I don't mean to say that the other's aren't nice.. however other companies just haven't gone as far into making a different and flowing interface
I like the look of sense but I just can't get past the lag.
I tried the two versions of 3.5 out there recently and they were so slow they were basically unusable. I tried with swap and enabled and without and overclocked up to almost 1500 and it still was so slow.
(used superwipe, etc before/between flashes)
2.1 ran a bit quicker but I still found it laggy and there were always odd things that did not work for me.
What was ironic is there was no "problems" at all with the 3.5 that i ran across as far as bugs, reboots, etc , it was just slow.
If one could even approach the speed of stock or cyanogen I would gladly use it.
It all about the widgets (Email especially ) that HTC provides on the sense I like.
