What's the purpose of "android.permission.BRICK"? - Android Software Development

I haven't seen it used anywhere. Does it actually enable any particular functionality?

use for bricking your phone.
no really, it does what it says

Why would there be such a permission?

External sdcard permissions

I was following an earlier thread about the problem where only the "My Files" app has permissions to alter content on the external SDcard (unrooted), but something wasn't clear...is there a solution to this short of rooting the device? I'd really rather not root, but surely Samsung thought an actual _app_ might want to write to the freakin' card!

What's wrong with rooting? The process is easy peasy really.
Just FYI if you're timid about rooting for warranty reasons, if you do factory reset on the 7.7 it will remove root and no one will be the wiser.

Mostly just uncomfortable with the risk. Doing it on a Nook Color was one thing, doing it on the 7.7 is something else from a cost-of-screwing-up standpoint.

There are a number of ways. Are you asking from the standpoint of you wanting to know, or afraid of your carrier knowing?
If you want to know just download any app that requires root and see if it runs.
For your carrier to know, i believe they would need to physically see the phone. For instance bringing it into one of the stores to troubleshoot an issue and having them see a root requiring app.
Root check works well. You can also get Titanium Backup as well and that has a check in it also.
Did you root your device? Lol.

No wipe root methods?

Is anyone working on other root methods? I'd really like to root without having to wipe my phone if at all possible.

There would be numerous posts announcing this if it were the case.

Announcing that someone was working on it? I just wanted to know if someone intended on working on it. I know there aren't any methods currently.

Replacement S5 with 5.0, BOG5, am I out of luck to root? Any way to remove bloat?

Done some searching through the threads and I just want to make sure I haven't missed anything new. Build number is BOG5. Can I downgrade that and root? Or am I out of luck?
Are there workarounds for removing bloatware? Thanks.

Sorry but OG5 can't be root. You're out of luck for now.
For de-bloat junks, check out this - Install the software to your PC, then connect your phone and click on read the device, put a check next to the app that you want to block, hit apply. If the app can't be blocked, you could use remove option (put a check mark to the option on the top), however be careful with what you want to remove.

Out of curiosity, why can't OG5 be rooted?

Because they patched all the security holes that allow us to sneak in root!! Started from OE1 then OG5. Anything previous to those 2, it can be rooted.
Is there a way to load in an earlier or rooted ROM using Odin? I just found myself in the same situation.

Assuming you're on SM-G935F, it's completely safe and easy. I used CF-Autoroot

It doesn't require root and surprisingly it works quite well. I would expect such an app to be a hit&miss but I'm loving the app so far.
noxapp+ is also a good one. You should try it
