In the past few months I can not get GPS to work on any build but one.
Could you all please enlighten me as to what i am doing wrong?
thank you!
Method:
edit /system/etc/gps.conf
from europe.xxxx to us.xxx
save
reboot
double check it saved.
GPS works in:
[Everyday Builds][latest linux_on_wince_htc][PPP] CM6.1+
and
copenhagen's nightly
GPS does not work:
MDJ
clean
MDJ FroYo HD
GIPAQ MIU
Jaws-MIUI-1112
JIGNERSMIUI
I'm in the same boat.
I've tried about 6 different flavors of android and yet to get the gps to find me.
I haven't done any special edits yet, still searching for the cause though
I though it migt have something to do with WM or hardware malfunction, but i guess its not, ill try one of those builds soon and see if it works for me.
I have no problems with having used nearly half of the listed builds. Here's my gps.conf, if you want to look at it. I renamed it a txt file

I just thought I'd post on this because apparently I'm not the only having this problem but I'm not sure what has caused it. My location was working on Donut, but for some reason that no longer seems to be the case. I can let you know the specific files I'm using if need be, but I've tried different combinations of files to go along with different Donut system.sqsh files and it still doesn't seem to work.
Is there a particular reason for this of which I haven't been made aware?
I see a bunch have viewed this but no one has replied. If anyone can use My Location on Donut, could you at least confirm that for me? Thanks.
I've never been able to get 'My Location' to work on any build, but Google Maps in WM has always worked... I would also love to see this issue solved!

It will work on your first boot of donut with a new data. After that, it doesn't work anymore. The devs need to rework the code (zImage or rootfs or somewhere). I'm sure they'll get to it soon. Until then, we wait patiently or learn how to code and help out!

Thank you for the response. I heard this from someone else, but it didn't even work on first boot for me, so I'm not sure. In any case, if it doesn't work for anyone after that initial boot, then I'll just have to wait.
I can't even get it work on Cupcake now. I don't know what the deal is.
But, My Location works on senseHero
I don't know if you care, but My Location does work on Zen's senseHero-v1.3.3. You can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582372
I keep going back and forth between senseHero and craig0r's Donut-Ion build with fixed Market found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=568580
SenseHero has GPS and My Location; Donut-Ion has the camera working. With Market-Enabler.apk, found here: http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/downloads/list you'll be able to get the paid apps on either build.
I just have the two builds on two different 2GB microSD cards. It's easy to carry the spare and change at will.

I'm sure you already tried this, but make sure you have checked "allow location / gps blah blah blah" in your settings...just a thought.

I'll give those a try now. I don't usually like HERO builds as much as the less themed ones, but we'll see.
Can any developers, if you see this post, say whether or not you're aware of this issue? As always, I'm not doing the developing so I don't want to be ungrateful. Just wondering what the deal is.
Whenever I receive a picture message from someone it comes out with extremely horrible quality. Its not there phones, there phones have 5mp cameras and I'm getting pictures that are pixalated really bad. I know I'm not gonna get 5mp quality messages but this horrible. Sending pictures quality is fine just receiving. Details in my sig. Anyone know an answer?

The link you posted really only addresses MMS send and receive issues relating to incorrect APN settings.
A fix for the compressed MMS issue is listed on Page 3 (Comment 25), but the instructions are only achievable if you have a Linux box. Plus you have to delete your old data.img and do a fresh install.
BetaBoy,
The poor quality MMS issue is discussed more in-depth on this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774672
The problem is only affecting Desire builds and is not an issue on the standalone Froyo builds.
Now there are two ways to fix the compressed MMS issue.
Option 1:
1. Download ES File Explorer from the market, install
2. Go to ./system/etc/ directory and look for a file called "mm_property.conf", open the file to edit.
3. Change the wapprofile=" to "http://www.htcmms.com.tw/Android/common/NexusOne/ua-profile.xml"
4. Save the changes
If that is too complicated, then the following option is for you! I went with option 2 because I am not proficient with file explorers and I couldn't figure out how to correctly access the system directory...
(Please note, with this method you have to delete your old data.img and do a fresh install)
Option 2:
Go to this thread and download the corrected data.img.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774672
(Also note, Chiasoft has only corrected FroyoStone Sense V2 and Mattc Froyo Sense 1.7)
If you send him a PM, maybe he can put together a data.img for your setup.
And Betaboy, what the hell are you running 2.1 for anyway?
No need for any of that
The problem was fixed i just went into Messages>settings>Custom User Agent>Nokia N95
Problems Slved!

You aren't running the sense Build; Vanilla Android has different fixes. If it's a CM port, then you can modify the UA within the MMS app.
On another thought: Sense is "prettier" looking on that nice 4.3" display on the HD2 than stock Android, no matter how you theme it, imo.
I installed wildpuzzle and its not picking up my location correctly. On maps it says I'm several hundred miles from where i actually am and the clock/weather widget doesn't find me at all. If I turn on GPS maps can find me but the weather widget still can't. Is there a solution to this?

first of all, why did you create a new thread? if you used the search function or read through a few pages of the wildpuzzle rom thread, you would already know, like other users, that there is still this little problem. danne jo however i think has fixed part of the issue in the new version.
sorry, i did search but obviously not with the right words and also I have the latest version.

You lousy, miserable, jobsworth ****. The poor bastard was asking for help.
For those having issues with triangulation / location finding: DanneJo figured out last night on IRC that it is because the app NetworkProviderService.apk was removed.
You can extract it from 8.0.8 (it is in system/app) and add it to the 8.0.10 zip file, then reflash. I can confirm this works fine.

Hello for the past weeks i tried to install many roms some dont start other do. I like that people share the roms they make. The wildpuzzle rom would be perfect but the location problem is still not fixed(also the fix as discribed here is not working). The openfire rom and the CyanogenMod are very good but as far as I can see its not possible to make videos with the wildfire with those roms installed. So maybe some one can advise me.......
I have installed WildPuzzle 7 (the previous version) along with the Wildpuzzle V7 overclock kernel and that seems to do pretty much everything wildpuzzle 8 does except without some new apps. The advantage is the location works and so does the contacts (picks up 07 and 44 numbers as the same person). I haven't seen any major differences between the two versions other than that.
Hopefully this is the right place to post this question. I have installed the latest stable Cyanogen rom, but I'm running into a couple of problems:
1. I cannot send text messages that are more than a few words in length. I suspect this to be because the ROM was written with Sprint's settings, and those settings simply won't work with Cellular South users. Am I right in that there is something that I must change to get my texts to work correctly with Cellular South?
2. Reboots - this one is rather annoying. There is really no rhyme or reason as to why it does this. I can reboot my phone, and it will just sit there, with only SipDroid running in the background (as far as apps that I have added that are running), and my phone will reboot itself every few hours. Now, one thing that did happen was the 2GB MicroSD card that came with the phone died, and I replaced it with a Class 6 8GB MicroSD card. I can't remember if I had the reboot problems prior to that. Any suggestions to help me try to isolate the cause of this?
Thanks everyone.
Bump. Sorry about bumping this thread. Just do not want to have to go back to my stock ROM.
You need the APN settings for cs I think.

Does it by chance reboot when your GPS comes on? Open Maps (or anything you know will cause the GPS to become active) and see what happens. If so try the GPS fix. Used to be able to type ##GPSCLRX#, in Sense but you can't in CM, but there is a fix.
@ranger - it reboots even when the GPS is off (I generally keep it off). Thanks for the suggestion though. Maybe I just need to wipe it and reflash? Couldn't hurt I suppose.
@mrinehart - thanks. I'll do some searching for the "APN Settings" for Cellular South.
What's your total setup with cm6? Like kernel, overclock app and what not? But I believe all cdma users have the 160 character limit with the stock messenging app but if you use handcent or chomp you can bypass this by checking the split thread option in settings. Hopefully after hearing your setup I can help you figure out what's causing the reboots

@ThaSik1 - I was using just the stock messaging app. I didn't realize there was a limitation in the stock messaging app. My setup was just CM6 stable with the gapps installed. The only other apps that I had running constantly were Sipdroid (used for my GV + Gizmo5), and for overclock, I had been using the Overclock Widget. I have restored my stock CS ROM for now - but will applying the CM 6.1 RC1 ROM today.
Let me ask this - my stock CS ROM is 2.1. Would it be worthwhile to copy my APN configuration file from my stock ROM over the CM 6.1 configuration file? Or, would that cause problems?
To my knowledge it shouldn do any harm because the apn file that comes with Cyanogen roms dont have our carrier listed in it anyways. And if it does cause problems, i'll just attach my apn file (which is a modified version of cyanogen's to include Cellular south). But I dont think apn's do much good unless you have picture messaging..dont quote me on that tho lol As for your reboots, i can't see why it would be rebooting like that..If you wiped data and dalvik/cache, then flashed the rom, followed by gapps you should be good. Only thing i can actually see giving you problems would be if you had it overclocked too high since all heroes can't handle the 768 frequency
Flash Deca’s capped kernel to stop the random reboots

I do have picture messaging on my plan - I take it I will need to go ahead and use my a CS APN file. If you don't mind, then yes - please do post the Cellular South APN file that you have. I really do appreciate your help your help. This forum rocks!
I have installed CM6 RC1, and everything seems to work great. I took your advice on not using the stock messaging app and am using Handcent instead. I set it to split the messages. That appears to have fixed the texting problem. Handcent reminds me of my old iPhone texting setup, which I really liked. I have also set the Overclock to max at 691 to make sure that I don't run it too high (or too hot for that matter).
hahahaha no problem honestly i'm just paying it forward my good friend cuz i was once in your shoes lol.. To use the apn file i'm attaching, use an app from the market called "apn backup & restore".. install the app, use a file manager to place the attached file in the folder labeled "ApnBackupRestore", then open the apn app, click delete apns, then click restore apns. You might also need to reboot for it to take affect too lol and sorry to step on your toes in case you already know all of this info But i really hope Cm6.1 works out well for you cuz my Csouth hero is loving it!! haha
P.S. the xml file inside the attached zip is what you wanna place inside the folder lol

Thanks. And go easy on us in the Egg Bowl this year. It's going to be an ugly blowout......... lol
Now, I just need to get rid of where it says Sprint. I think that's been covered in the forum somewhere, as I think I remember seeing that topic.
Ha hey you know us dogs go all or nothing man hahaha but I can help ya with that sprint text issue lol I have the Eri.XML file ya need in order to change that but I can't post it from my phone..give me a sec and I'll boot up the laptop to attach it

Once you back outta the settings copy the eri.xml file, look in the upper left corner and touch the slash button to end up on the root of your phone) Okay from there you wanna find the system/app folder and then paste the eri.xml file there. All ya need to do then is reboot and you should be good lol

Thanks for the help. I copied that eri.xml into the system/app folder and rebooted, but my lock screen is still showing Sprint. I noticed that there wasn't an eri.xml in the system/app folder to start with. Perhaps that has been changed to a different location in the CM6.1 build?

Hi,
I'm at the end of my patience here. I've had all 3 of these roms installed, and they all work great, except that google earth NEVER shows up in the market. I found a google_earth.apk, and Installed it from ES File Manager, and it works except when I try to clear the cache, or change any of the layers. And on the first attempt it crashes but 2nd or more, it will work if no settings are changed. I've already tried to fix permissions in clockwork but to no avail. Any suggestions?
From what I've read by searching Google, I think Google actually removed this from the market for some reason.
EDIT: Either that or they've changed it to 2.2 and above only. Haven't used 2.2 yet so I'm not sure if its there or not.
well then I guess I should be happy with what works??? lol! But if anyone wants the file, here it is. See what you can do with it.

I'm on the 2.2 Beta and its in the market for me. so if you really can't locate it in the market then i would assume you are right in that its only for froyo now. in which case you can probably install an earlier version of google earth and run it without any problems. i'lll see if i can find one in one of my old backups somewhere if you would like.
I would really appreciate that!

I doubt that would work, since you have to connect to google servers to run the program and they force you to use the most current version.
Worst case scenario you will get it when the official 2.2 is out, won't be long.
randomly now it works without any problems. strange.
Probably put it 2.2 only for the size. I still have ir installed on 2.1 and it works fine, I can pull the apk later and pay it If anyone wants it.
