So I'm using swype on an unrooted device and when ever I trevor reboot my phone or some times just randomly the newest version of legit swype stops working, I reverted to the last version I was using and it fixed it.does anyone else have this issue and do you know how to fix it.
Thanks,
Cryous

I'm using the beta now and think I'm having the same issue. Basically after a reboot I have to select the normal input method then select swype.
Last I looked on there forum it's a known issue with no solution at the moment. Something about when the licence is loaded is after the program and it generates a conflict. Iirc.
oh well, once its fixed il go to it currently I'm using 2.10

I am having the same issues with Swype. I am rooted but same issues.
I've always had that problem since I got my first legit copy of swype. It doesn't work after a reboot/startup. Just gotta change input, then change it back to swype. I'm on 2.15 swype currently.

i have access to the beta, but im using a hacked version that pieter3d tweeted about, red and black version. it works every reboot
Yea the hacked versions work better right now but once everything works right legit swype is going to destroy

Just checked that version out.. It looks like an old version of SWYPE. I found some other themed ones on Mobilism that look really nice.
This is their copy protection in action, and that bug has been there for several releases. Very annoying. They know about it.
This Issue is very annoying but I'm glad that Swype allowed me on the beta test group. If switching back and fourth text input apps don't work, I uninstall and reinstall Swype.

I am an official beta user....but this also pisses me off. They know for many releases and do not fix it. I would use a hack version if I wasn't so lazy to find one I liked.
The latest beta has somewhat of a fix for this.
If you keep the Swype Installer around, there is a button to Generate License. And that fixes the whole rebooting not recognizing device issue.
This bug seems to happen to me everytime I enter into Airplane mode, then reboot my phone.
Isnt it just faster to switch inputs takes less than 5 sec to switch to standard then back to swype. After that it is good till next reboot.
BTW I have a second DInc and the license would not register on the second device...wierd. I put SlideIT on it but may look for the hacked swype to solve both problems.
I use an old version of swype that is hacked even though I'm a beta user, because I cannot stand the switching inputs thing
Sent from my HTC Incredible
Recent version of myn's warm rls5 and up fixed the problem for me. Swype always works on boot, I hated the input method thing, yea it was simple and easy but I'm glad it's fixed for me at least.
Anyone else try myns yet?

I wondered if anyone has tried SWYPE on the Desire and if there are alternatives to it? The videos of Swype look fantastic.
yep have it running on mine and it is perfect, much better than shapewriter, it does however stop the pinch zoom from working, this only seems to work with the stock keyboard.

Do you mean the pinch zoom doesn't work at all on the phone or just to enlarge the keyboard?
Where do you get swype for the android by the way?

As my android is german, I don't exactly know what the menu items are called, but it should be something similar:
1. Download the .apk file and copy it to your phone's SD card
2. Go to Settings -> Applications -> Check "Unknown Sources"
3. Use an app like ApkInstaller, browse the apk and install it
4. Settings -> Language and Keyboard -> Check Swype
5. In an input field, long-press the field, choose "Input Method" and "Swype".
6. If you wish, change the Swype settings in Settings -> Language and Keyboard -> Swype.
That's it.
thanks for the comment. I am looking for apkinstaller in the marketplace but it's not coming up. I tried installing a couple of other apk installers but they both failed....
I'd post the QR code, but as I am a noob, I'm not allowed to.
So google for "apkinstaller" and you'll find it.
If not: What's the error message you get?

Thanks... I used an EoE installer in the end and that worked like a charm... Got Swype working but it's been crashing quite a few times..... I wonder when they will open the beta or release this as it does look fantastic.
I use Astro, just do a search for this app, very easy once installed.

Swype for the Desire - Just get it.
Sorry if this is an old thread, but just cottened on to swype thanks to the Mobile Buzz widget informing me. I'm new to Android and only had my Desire 2 months.
It is app nirvana! I'm running the beta now (1.56.30), and I must say, when it runs out and I have revert back to the stock keyboard and tapping away, I'm gonna cry. It works so well. Has increased my typing speed at least 3-fold. (HTC Desire with stock 2.1 ROM).
The only thing I'd like to re-enforce that was covered in another post, is that it's not made very clear by the developers how to start using it! After installation, get to an input screen and do a long press, and select the 'input method' option and check the swype box. It will stick with your stock keyboard if you do not do this.
Will happily pay/donate for this when the full release comes out, and will be very surprised if this does not become the standard implementation for touch screen typing very soon. The swype keyboard also works well with the tradtional tapping method should you want to type something unlikely to be in it's database, so why not?
Very very impressed with it so far.
Edit: Noticed a slight weakness. Not sure if this is fair, but it is not so useful if you are using the phone in landscape mode. It works to a degree, but you have to stick with one finger per word/swype. Not easy if your thumbs are not up to reaching across your keyboard in landscape. Can be uncomfortable. Recommend sticking with fingers instead of thumbs! But for one-handed, portrait typing this is still the daddy.
the new beta version, what is the full version number? 1.56.30......., I already have a modded version 1.56.30.7625.t100 installed. also how long on average does beta version expire? After requesting for an invite ages ago, I finally got an email from them to use their beta. is it worth installing it??
Is there no Swype version for Moto?
I just switched from an Eris and I had multiple colors of the Swype apk file but I cannot find one that fits my screen, per the error I get.
Anyone have one to fit the Moto or is there not one?
I found a good copy by Googling anyway. Let me know if you need it.
Here is the URL to the post containing themed colors for almost all Android device resolutions of Swype.

one good place to look for all things droid related is droid-life.com. Its run by Kellex, and he has a downloads page with all things that work on the Droid. Excellent blog
the free alternative, is called shapewriter its on android makret. in the end i didnt bother with it, as i had a real keyboard, but try it out, i know that the beta APK which was flying around has now expired i havent looked for a new one since.

bugs out when u got to landscape.... and then shape swyping doesnt work. but you can use it as a normal keyboard
this is the file i used.

Hey. mountaineerndixie i need the copy because mine doesnt work in land scape mode. thanks
Same here..
swype 5612 dead
anyone got the new beta ripped?
the new beta works ok in portrait, and is almost useless in landscape mode.
the older 5612 build that has just expired worked 100% flawless in my opinion.
it would be nice if someone could find a way to edit out the time bomb in that build so droid/incredible/nexus users alike could enjoy a working version of swype again
edit:
ive switched to shapewriter. works a bit better, especially for words that have double letters. the main things i miss about swype, is the broad landscape keyboard - great for typing passwords without having to use the slideout, and the options-abc gesture to bring up the arrow pad
shapewriter is great because it has gestures for cut, copy, paste, select all and other useful options - most importantly it works on my phone where swype no longer does that well
The new beta works fine in landscape mode. Droid Life links to a version that has been modified for the Motorola Droid / Milestone. If you go to the thread it mentions, you'll find smaller versions that do not have all fo the extra languages.
I'd link it but the forum won't let me.
My only complaint with Swype right now is the memory usage. It's consuming 31 megs of RAM just to run in the background. I know that Android will manage memory as needed but that's almost as much as Android System is using.
I have tried every swype link I can find. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Each time it still tells me that I need to upgrade my copy of swype. Amy ideas?
Not really. I never received the expired message for 5612 but I uninstalled it and reinstalled the newer version anyway. Maybe try uninstalling it, power cycle your phone, and then install the new version?
What do you mean power cycle? Just take the battery out?
Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk
Here ya go, get it while it's hot!
Hang onto your power button, select "turn phone off", give it a second or two, turn it back on. Taking the battery out would accomplish the same thing.

Remove swype AND installer. Reboot. Try an apk.
Man, I almost cried last night when I saw my swype not working. Hopefully this works. I don't know why they don't put it on the app market, I'd be willing to pay.
I am having a couple issues with the official Beta of Swype on the Leaked 2.2 ROM. According to a browse through the Swype forums it looks like Swype does have issues on 2.2 in general. Hopefully we can get an updated version that isn't so buggy.
1. Swype has stopped functioning randomly several times. Can use as regular keyboard. - Attempted clearing temporary data (cache) but didn't fix. Ended up re-installing it to get it working again.
2. Occasionally the default keyboard just sets itself back to the HTC/Android and I have to re-set Swype as my input method.
Anyone else having these issues? This will also be posted on the official Swype Beta forums as soon as I figure out how to post there.
1st: didn't work using Titanium backup, I had to uninstall, and reinstall from scratch
2nd: I couldn't get it to swype into the URL bar of internet, however without doing anything else it worked in another app just fine...
So, there's some "things" going on for sure.
Same
I agree my Swype doesn't work on Froyo. This sucks. I'm forced to use swiftkey...which isn't that bad.
I don't recall where I saw the thread, but apparently Swype has responded. They said a reinstall isn't necessary, just switch to the stock keyboard and back to Swype. I haven't tried it yet, but figured I'd pass along the information.
http://swype.uservoice.com/forums/1...-be-reinstalled-every-time-i-reboot?ref=title
That works, however not forever. It eventually stops working again. I've had to "hold" on the input box to get the popup to switch input methods a couple of times now. Each time it has fixed swype for a little while.
nevermind, still seems to be buggy on 2.2
I really feel like evoking a tune from Dora the Explorer here, but I'll save yall from experiencing the odd effects babysitting my nephew!
Anyway, I got in on the recently re-opened Swype beta as recently as yesterday, as I remember, and today i'm not able to swype to type anymore. I'm typing this post from the Swype keyboard by traditional "pecking." There is also no word prediction happening, despite it being checked in the swype menu.
Am I overlookimg something. Has anybody else had this happen? Thanks!

It started happening and then i don't know how or why it popped up saying that swype wasn't licenced for my device.
So i just uninstalled the keyboard and went to the skype installer and reinstalled it.

I'm having the same problem as well. I've noticed that it comes and goes. My quick fix is toggling input method.
On Miui I haven't been able to ever get Swype to actually Swype.

Swype version 2.4.44 won't swype, but it will accept keystrokes.
Old versions of swype 1.6 or so seem to work fine.
Anyone been able to get a new version of Swype to work for them? Especially on an HD2?
i've searched for an answer to this question but most keyboard problems i've come across deal with the entire keyboard freezing or lagging and usually changing settings like pop ups and autocomplete resolve the issue.
my problem deals with individual keys freezing. when this happens, the rest of the keyboard functions as normal. usually closing and reopeneing the keyboard or pressing other keys will fix it but that's really annoying to have to do. the delete key and space key freeze the most but i've experienced it with just about every key. i've tried every different keyboard in the market and tried changing keyboard settings but the problem persists. i don't know where else to turn so i decided i would ask on here.
i posted this in a dev thread earlier because i originally thought it was a rom issue, but the issue has repeated on several different roms and other people have confirmed that they're experiencing the same problem. i'm not sure how widespread it is, but it's definitely something that i think needs to be addressed.
i'll appreciate any response so thanks for any help in advance
If it is across all the keyboards you try, maybe it is something with your screen? I had similar issues with my phone, where if I would have two fingers touching the keyboard on different keys, it would flip out, and sometimes lag. I am currently using the HTC_IME keyboard and I no longer have issues. Btw my phone is an optimus v. Hope I helped. Cheers.

I have the same exact problem. And you're right on, my delete key will stop responding a lot of time. Especially when I long press it to delete words quickly.
I have used like 5 different keyboards with the same problem. This happens to every ROM EXCEPT Royal Ginger 2.1
And I have no idea why RG2.1 is the only cure...

They might replace it, but I wouldn't count on it. They'd probably factory reset it to see if that works. HTC_IME is a modded keyboard found here on XDA, it is highly themeable, but I use it for its precision and its multitouch functionality.
