Hey guys quick question,
After reading on several sites about the android 2.2 for the epic that was released on googles servers I flashed to that. So, I'm on android 2.2 now and 1) am wondering if it was a real rom or if it was just a leak and 2) why didn't we get the puzzle piece lockscreen like the captivate vibrant etc.?
Thanks for your help
Edit: I'm currently on dk28

1) leak, it isn't "official" unless sprint provides it
2) different pieces are scattered between galaxy s phones, find someone to port it as an add-on
Thanks so much for your help. One last question: will I receive the"official" update ota even though I'm on this leaked rom? Do I need to flash back to stock 2.1?

Have to be on 2.1 to get the ota.

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but is it possible to install stock 2.1 Rom over leaked 2.2?
I really dont like this leaked Froyo.
Thanks.

no
and next time post this under questions
Please try searching before posting. There have been like 10 posts a day about this since the leaked version launched.
Take it to a Sprint store and they should be able to roll you back.
I'm still waiting on the update. Dose it matter if I'm rooted or not and wll I lose root when the update hits?
I have had no update to my firmware as of yet.

2 things. Did I miss the update being released? And I have yet to load a leak because I need infrastructure wifi. The update will remove your root and you will need to re root after you get it. Also, the update probably won't install ota if you aren't running stock rom/kernel. At least the other updates haven't installed with modified stuff.

I thought 2.2 was suppose to b pushed nov 11 if I'm not mistaken. And I'm still running everything stock just rooted.
Could any one reccomend a good coustom 2.2 kernal to flash to? I don't think I wanna wait too long for 2.2
2.2 source is not out yet. No custom kernels until it's released.

Sad... but they probably are. Lol
Just wish they would learn a few things from XDA.

I've been using the quantum rom for a couple days now and the only problem I've had so far is it force closes when I try to use my flashlight program. Other than that everything works great so maybe you should flash it if you want 2.2 right now.

the OTA hasnt been pushed yet. if you are rooted already, you will lose root.
if you're not running custom ROM/kernel you won't get the OTA.

You mean if you are running a custom rom. What about clock work? Will that cause any ota problems?

I stand corrected.. oversight on my part. Custom ROM/kernel will not get the OTA notification.
If you have the stock ROM/kernel, you'll get the OTA notification.
If you're rooted and using stock ROM, you'll lose root. Might lose custom recovery as well, but I'm not sure on that.
What I'd recommend, if you ARE rooted and you have custom recovery (clockwork), then wait for the release (like we all are) and it WILL show up here.
The Devs/chefs are all over this and waitng just like everyone else.
Patience is the key.
I flashed back to 2.1 stock last night. I'm going to wait for 2.2 OTA before I root again. Then I will wait a couple weeks until some nice stuff gets cooked up here on xda and is nice and stable before I flash any custom 2.2 items. I can wait.
I'm pretty sure everyone is waiting..
Yeh I guess ill just wait...guy at the sprint store promised 2.2 by the end of october and 4g by the end of november. I guess they will say any thing to sell a phone -__-
Any one know if touch wiz 3.0 will be in the 2.2 ota update?

While none of us know what the end product will be the fact that the beta releases have tw3 more than likely means yes it will.

I have been twiddling my thumbs for weeks waiting for the 2.2 OTA update. I got so impatient one night that I started downloading the necessary tools to root and install a leaked 2.2 version, but quickly settled down and decided to wait it out.
I also downloaded Samsung Kies; I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and the program will not boot from the .exe under any conditions (as administrator, under XP compatabilities, etc)... I have yet to even be able to see the program's interface or find any legitimate documentation for troubleshooting the software.
No complaints with the phone yet, but I am seriously disappointed that I have had to wait so long for 2.2... Samsung claims that this update will allow for quicker future Android updates, but I am taking that with a grain of salt considering the false announcements that have been made so far regarding its official release.

The only thing I dont like about the leaks is the lock screen lag.... If it wasn't for that I would be using it everyday!
1. can I accept it if I'm on the stock rom?
2. if not, will there be a comprehensive update from the dev community with new radios and the updated rom?
We already got the update go look in dev section for glacier gingerbread leak posted by faux123, not teampokerface

This wasn't always true in the past on older phones, but on the MT4G and you're rooted, you won't receive OTA updates even if you're on the stock ROM.
so in other words i have to unroot to get the ota update when it comes out?

no, those are the exact words.
The new OTA will be GB MySense, we've had it for over a week. We now also have GB Sense 2.1 built specifically for our hardware. So in other words, everything tmo has to offer and SO much more is already posted in the dev section. The pecking order of AOSP>Sense>MySense pretty much means that it takes FOREVER to get updates, so official OTA's are like celebrating Christmas in July.
I rooted my shift so i can use wifi tether. When, if htc releases 2.3 for the shift will i be able to load it or do i have to use a custom version? I rooted using the instructions on this site. Thanks in advance.
To be able to use the HTC drop you should ruu first, but I would just stay rooted it offers far more perks then being locked down
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Don't load the ruu. Load a stock rooted rom. It may be a long time if at all before an official update is rooted.

Maybe im an idiot but if i thought if you were rooted and let it update with an official update i thought you were screwed thats why i said if you want htcs unroot if not flash one of the htc leaks which is out gingerbread with the new sense so it will get an update

As far as I know, any "official" update will break root.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Usually someone will post the update but remove only the crap that breaks root. Wait until that is available and use it. It will be tempting to load the official update when you see posts around the various websites mentioning that it is going out to people BUT DON'T DO IT!!! You may forever lose root....as it seems the Shift was fairly involved to root the first time around I wouldn't hold my breath for the next update to get rooted very soon, if ever.
Also, based on the EVO 3D apparently having an encrypted bootloader I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last HTC phone I ever own unless they make a future Nexus phone.
i know this may seem like a stupid question comsiderin how long its been available but does anyone know how to update samsung galaxy s to froyo from eclair?

Take a bow from me for you must be a very unique person indeed, especially in these times when most people are itching to port ICS even before the official launch!!
Hopefully you have Kies installed in your PC in which case, all you have to do is connect your phone to your PC,start Kies and you will be told about the update that is available which is going to be some version of Gingerbread depending upon where you live.
As for Froyo, you can download any Froyo package from 'Ramad's' posts that you will find with minimum search in these forums and then flash through Odin. You will also find elaborate tutorials that will give you a wealth of information.
You are a modern day Rip Van Winkle surely!
You might want to consider froyo 2.2.1 ZSJPK as that is the most stable of the Froyos.

No stupid question at all! found the news that only a small part of the android users is upgrading (in dutch)! guess the junkies of xda are not really representative! For your case i would recommend to install kies and all drivers to update according to your region! if you need a specific froyo do as above!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Plug in your phone to your computer and try upgrading through KIES. If you have any problems with that, then use Odin and grab some Froyo stock files...
