I'm still waiting on the update. Dose it matter if I'm rooted or not and wll I lose root when the update hits?
I have had no update to my firmware as of yet.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
2 things. Did I miss the update being released? And I have yet to load a leak because I need infrastructure wifi. The update will remove your root and you will need to re root after you get it. Also, the update probably won't install ota if you aren't running stock rom/kernel. At least the other updates haven't installed with modified stuff.

I thought 2.2 was suppose to b pushed nov 11 if I'm not mistaken. And I'm still running everything stock just rooted.
Could any one reccomend a good coustom 2.2 kernal to flash to? I don't think I wanna wait too long for 2.2
2.2 source is not out yet. No custom kernels until it's released.

I've been using the quantum rom for a couple days now and the only problem I've had so far is it force closes when I try to use my flashlight program. Other than that everything works great so maybe you should flash it if you want 2.2 right now.

the OTA hasnt been pushed yet. if you are rooted already, you will lose root.
if you're not running custom ROM/kernel you won't get the OTA.

I stand corrected.. oversight on my part. Custom ROM/kernel will not get the OTA notification.
If you have the stock ROM/kernel, you'll get the OTA notification.
If you're rooted and using stock ROM, you'll lose root. Might lose custom recovery as well, but I'm not sure on that.
What I'd recommend, if you ARE rooted and you have custom recovery (clockwork), then wait for the release (like we all are) and it WILL show up here.
The Devs/chefs are all over this and waitng just like everyone else.
Patience is the key.
I flashed back to 2.1 stock last night. I'm going to wait for 2.2 OTA before I root again. Then I will wait a couple weeks until some nice stuff gets cooked up here on xda and is nice and stable before I flash any custom 2.2 items. I can wait.
I'm pretty sure everyone is waiting..
Yeh I guess ill just wait...guy at the sprint store promised 2.2 by the end of october and 4g by the end of november. I guess they will say any thing to sell a phone -__-

While none of us know what the end product will be the fact that the beta releases have tw3 more than likely means yes it will.

I have been twiddling my thumbs for weeks waiting for the 2.2 OTA update. I got so impatient one night that I started downloading the necessary tools to root and install a leaked 2.2 version, but quickly settled down and decided to wait it out.
I also downloaded Samsung Kies; I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and the program will not boot from the .exe under any conditions (as administrator, under XP compatabilities, etc)... I have yet to even be able to see the program's interface or find any legitimate documentation for troubleshooting the software.
No complaints with the phone yet, but I am seriously disappointed that I have had to wait so long for 2.2... Samsung claims that this update will allow for quicker future Android updates, but I am taking that with a grain of salt considering the false announcements that have been made so far regarding its official release.

LOL.........
okay...we already knew this was true, but i have a question.
When the real froyo comes out, will we have to flash back to the DI18 stock w/ Odin or will we be able to update the manual way like we did for this "test"? (I know it wouldn't show up in the system updates notification)
Since ur probably gonna root and load a custom rom anyway, pretty sure u can just wait for the rom packages to be updated and go straight from dk28

Yea, but doing that will inevitably lead to problems. The best way to do it is to return to DI18 and let Android update you the normal way, then root, then install whatever rom you want. If DK28 has taught us anything, its that trying to take the shortcut leads to non functional GPS and other problems.
Which means we'll probably be getting the final build of froyo in a few months judging by the current rate of progress. SOOOOOOO tired of waiting.
I checked the Sprint forums.
One of the admin suggests that the official update will be released within 3 weeks at the least, unless there's problems. Which...there will be -_-

RoyalGinger is as close to stock as you'll get, although any gingerbread roms will have some bugs since they're using dumps and ports for their base rom so once the update comes out we'll have the kernels and correct drivers etc. Making for a now perfect Rom hope I helped

It will definitely be out before the end of June, so if you can wait that long and you're wary of rooting, it should be here within 9 weeks.

To be able to use the HTC drop you should ruu first, but I would just stay rooted it offers far more perks then being locked down

Don't load the ruu. Load a stock rooted rom. It may be a long time if at all before an official update is rooted.

As far as I know, any "official" update will break root.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Usually someone will post the update but remove only the crap that breaks root. Wait until that is available and use it. It will be tempting to load the official update when you see posts around the various websites mentioning that it is going out to people BUT DON'T DO IT!!! You may forever lose root....as it seems the Shift was fairly involved to root the first time around I wouldn't hold my breath for the next update to get rooted very soon, if ever.
Also, based on the EVO 3D apparently having an encrypted bootloader I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last HTC phone I ever own unless they make a future Nexus phone.
Looks like we are finally gonna get the official GB update.
It will start pushing the 20th but as of the 17th you can manually update by going to MENU>SETTINGS>SYSTEM UPDATES>HTC SOFTWARE UPDATE

Well yes if you install the OTA .. No if you wait for the great Devs to make a stock rooted ROM
Thanks for the heads up. It's about time they said something. Sounds good, but I'll wait till our Devs get there hands on it. Don't want the same issues some people are having with the EVO 4G update. Don't want to lose root, and have to wait.

The leak that is over in the Android Dev section has sense 2.1. I wouldn't expect the final release to have anything different.
This will be good once the kernel source comes out, and we can get some overclocking going.
Also, once the kernel source comes out, this should give the kingdom rom port a shot in the arm, as we will be able to OC that rom, and make it run like it should run.

Shift deck is AOSP, right? This is the sense rom update. You should only update to this rom if you want a sense rom again.
I will be waiting to install it as well. The root process on this phone is already involved enough. It will probably be a long time, if ever, before it gets rooted again after they patch the root method we are currently using.
The one thing I am curious about is if we are stock rooted will we be able to ignore the notifications about updating or is it going to constantly notify us to update forever?
According to Sprint's twitter account, the OTA is available now. I'm rooted, so I'm not going to mess with it, but for anyone who isn't rooted, and wants it, go get it...

I wonder if this Merge update has the same bugs our 2.3.3 Evo Shift update from Sprint has like the major problem with the Sense reloading. If not, I hope that Sprint will follow very soon if this update if it doesn't have any major bugs.
Any Sprint insider info out there on if the Shift will be getting this 2.3.4 version too??? Especially if it fixes the Sense reloading issue.
What you should do is root your phone ASAP and NOT accept any OTA from HTC/Sprint while you still can. If you want to run Sense there are many Sense based ROMs you can flash.

Just say no to OTA's . When and IF the Shift gets another update hopefully people have learned their lesson. Don't accept OTA's. If your already rooted stay that way. Wait for updates to be worked on by the Dev's.

Just an FYI:
The last time there was a major OTA update for the Shift, I posted a working, rooted version of the update within four hours of us getting the zip file. I'm pretty sure we had a rooted Gingerbread Sense ROM available before the official update was available OTA for most of you.
I have no idea why anyone with an interest in keeping root access would ever accept an OTA update from Sprint.
