Those are the phones I'm thinking about upgrading to from my N1. Which should I go for? I want the phone with the most support here on XDA. Leaning more towards the G2 because of the look, HSPDA+ and seems like it has the most support here out of the three. One drawback about the Nexus S for me is no HSPDA+. MT4G seems like the most powerful. Which should I go for?
EDIT: Sorry wrong forum, feel free to move it.

Mine is too. OP is confusing it with HSPA+
G2 is best one of those
This is why I don't upgrade my Nexus One.
All phones are not that great over the Nexus One yet all have their own individial pros/cons.
The MyTouchHD looks hidious but has the hardware, HSPA+, and front facing camera
G2 looks slick, HSPA+, and no front camera
Nexus S will have the same support as the Nexus One but lacks HSPA+, Super Amoled, etc.
I don't like keyboard phones at all. So I'd pick the Nexus One over the G2. I thought about trading in my N1 for a MyTouchHD, but it looks like crap.
If I lost my Nexus One today and my insurance would cover the cost of any one of those phones, I would pick the Nexus S.
If you want a nexus s but want to save money get a vibrant. My wife has one and I've got it running cyanogen 6.1, same as the NS minus NFC & FFC but the bonus of a sdcard slot.
My Nexus One has been doing great all year and I'm not impressed enough with the Nexus S to make the switch. Besides with the OneMoreFace mirror coming out and Gingerbread soon on all our N1's why upgrade at all.
If you really want a N1 with a physical keyboard get a G2. Especially if you're in a 4G market. Otherwise you can save your money and keep the awesome phone in your hand.

If I had the nexus one, id make the same move too. The nexus one has the "old" factor and I feel many people upgrade from their n1 only cause its time for a new toy but that phone was so ahead of its time. Its still on par and even better than most phones out there.
I was comparing these phones and took the plunge on the mytouch 4g and honestly, best phone I've ever had. Looks better than the vibrant, very sleek. Got the black version. I dont know why some people think it's ugly but to each their own. I guess the squigly "my touch" writing isnt all that great.
The G2 looks more professional and business man like. I was really close to getting that but after playing with both for hours, the mytouch 4g's display blew the G2 out of the water. Something, not sure what it is, made the G2's display very dull and lifeless. Almost like a very crisp G1. Also, cant live with the hinge problem, that drove me crazy.
Id keep the n1 and wait a month or two (maybe) for a HUGE leap, not the clump of smartphones that are coming out in waves all at the same time period. If i had a choice, Id have gotten the n1 a while ago, kept it and done that.
Too bad i had the g1, i needed to get rid of that outdated phone.
The Nexus S would be what I would go with if I had to, but there's still none I'd take over the N1.
Remember back when the N1 was first released, and Google was planning on expanding the online store to various Google supported phones for different carriers and from different vendors? Maybe if the NS is a big hit they will go back to that plan, but with the brick and mortar vendors instead of the online store. I know it's not likely, but it sure would be sweet
I'd say go for the g2 since it's running stock android but not vanilla but it doesn't matter anyways cuz you'll be flashing a custom rom as soon as you want to. The g2 was one impossible to root but not anymore though.even when the g2 is clocked at 800 mhz but hell no the processor is just as good as all the 1 ghz phones. And about the hinge problem htc seems to have fixed that with their current in stock right now.our if they give you one that got the problem.ask for another one and choose the one that's good cuz not all of them are infected. G2 is good.

But it is still not clear how easy it will be to root nexus S. Sure there will be an option to unlock the boot loader and loose the warranty. But no one know about any reversible root procedure on nexus S.
I would stick with N1 because of rooting and HTC seems not to care if you root you phone. I had 2 swapped out and both were rooted running different roms. Samsung might not be that cool about unlocking boot loader and rooting.
Hang onto the Nexus One a while longer. I got mine in January, its still going. If I had to choose one of the phones you list, I would probably get the MyTouch, I need a actual touchpad/ball

Yea the MyTouch has some good specs. Its just ugly. Perhaps you can replace the case on that thing and get rid of that bright green button.
If your going to trade or sell your N1 to get one of the three. I say get the G2.
1.Incredible hardware/ clearly superior to the N1.
2.Awesome dev community. (This is where I'd say it beats the MT4G)
3.Plus, HTC has released the source code for the G2, so it won't hit a brickwall in development.
4.The going rate for a N1 is between $3-400.00 you could get a used G2 for about that price and not have to spend a dime on your upgrade.
If your just going to outright purchase one of the three phones, I'd say wait for something more groundbreaking early next year.

I wasn't clear.. I'm aware of the state of G2's root, my point being that it was a drawn out process to achieve root with lots of complaining and from this point on I intend on voting with my $$$ and purchasing only phones that support "fastboot oem unlock".. My personal opinion is that carriers hear these votes more than angry tweets/emails, and if people didn't purchase the G2 and instead went with the truly open Nexus S, Android hardware as a whole would benefit

Hey.
I am thinking of getting android phone, and samsung vibrant is on my list, but I want to know what is better than vibrant at the moment?
Any other andriod phones better than vibrant at the moment that has good features?
I cannot afford Nexus S at the moment as its very expensive without any contract.
Thanks.
You may find other phones that people claim is faster, such as g2 or mytouch 4g or something...but I have yet to see another android phone with the amazing gpu performance of the vibrant..plus, with a few tweaks, this phone is faster than lightning...
But to be fair, Samsung support for the phone isn't all the best. Don't expect timely updates and such. However, our dev community here is awesome and with it, you probably wont miss support from Samsung...

Vibrant and Nexus S are bascily the same, a bit different.
umm... i really can't think of any other phone. Vibrant has filled my needs, but if you plan NOT to put a custom rom on it, or Root it... then... dont get the vibrant, samsung has quit on us, and the devs are the only reason this section is alive.
I dont know how to root or what roms are, etc, but I was waiting for 2.2 I heard it had good features.
So but now that 2.2 is not coming out are there any roms that can fill that gap?

YES.
If your looking for a 2.2, there are some awesome ROMS.
Nero, Ginger Clone, and Axura are the most popular currently.
They DO have a FEW bugs, but they're pretty small ones.
there has been a LEAKED froyo(2.2) rom, if you want a stock one, there is one.
I think you'd love a Vibrant. Before you get irritated, when you buy it, open it right there, and in front of the guy who sold it to you check if the GPS works, some new ones still don't work, and if it doesn't ask for another, and another if you have to, but be sure to make the GPS work wether you use GPS or not, you'll get annoyed later.
Also, if you don't know how to root or flash custom ROMs, there are PLENTY of EASY STEP-by-STEP tutorials to do it.
Just get the nexus S if you don't want to root. Bad side of it is it doesn't have a external storage.

Yup no ext SD was a definite deal breaker for me. Other then that it's a very nice phone.
The mt4g is a great phone for the casual person. But i wouldnt trade my vibrant for it, Im gonna wait for the fabled galaxy s2.
Fear the beard...
I actually went ahead and pulled the trigger on getting a Nexus S today. I love my Vibrant and I'm keeping it as I've had loads of fun with it because of all the community support. Macnut R14 was and is still my rom of choice with the phone and it's very smooth and not that buggy at all - and my GPS works.
Having said that, the reason I got the NS is due to direct Google support. Considering Gingerbread is out now and Samsung has yet to deliver Froyo to 3 of the 4 GS models stateside, I finally made the decision to drive something I know is going to get timely updates. If you're not going to root get the Nexus the trade offs make it about even. If you are going to root then the Vibrant could a strong choice considering what it has over the NS. I know I'll still be here flashing roms for my Vibrant even though I have a different phone to play on now.
If I didn't mind being on Sprint, I'd say the Sprint HTC EVO is better in some respects than the Vibrant. No other phones come to mind. I also still consider the Vibrant to be the best Android powered phone on T-Mobile ATM. FYI, I don't like phones with built-in physical keyboards so I tend to immediately rule those out. The lack of both the SD card slot and gorilla glass on the screen are deal killers for me on the Nexus S when comparing it to the Vibrant. The Nexus S offers nothing I want which I don't already have (EXT4 file system) or won't get in the future (Gingerbread). Timely updates aren't worth it to me.

For the price of the Vibrants right now this is the best bang for your buck stock or not. Fast processor, very customizable, 14gig storage STOCK with an external slot to increase that to only the limits of microSD cards.
My opinion is the casual user will not notice a difference in 2.1 2.2 or 2.3 aside from some cosmetics which can be imitated by many free market apps. Casual user.....
For the non casual user I will reiterate what my fellow enthusiast have already pointed out. We are blessed with some REALLY talented ROM developers that have been nothing but generous with their time and efforts.
I have never gone to a manufacturer for support on any phone I have owned. Majority of the time the communities solve the problem 1000x faster.
I would also like to point out I am not biased to this phone because I own it lol, it just happens to be the one I own currently. I for one LOVE my Vibrant. I have had a g1, my touch, every iphone and some in between.
I have only used two other android phones: the Mytouch 4G and the G2. Both are hands down a much better user/android experience than the Vibrant i now own.
The only thing that makes me think about keeping the vibrant over these other phones is that the vibrant kicks their asses when it comes to audio playback, the quality is noticeably better.
Appart from that, battery life on the vibrant is lame, the screen is big but the colors are off, withes are actually blueish. The stock software is horrible, touchwiz is a joke, seriously, so is the fact that this thing still runs 2.1.
For the more that people talk about the speed of this phone, i found it to be incredibly laggy and slow, from apps to file transfers.
Ironically the best thing about the vibrant is that it made me use my phone a lot less than the Mt4G or the G2. The G2 made me a very anti-social person.

vibrant or nexus S
Currently have the iphone 4 from a trade I did with my nexus one. Going back to android! Stuck on which to choose the nexus S or the vibrant. Seems as if both phones are pretty much the same. Save a few hundred with the vibrant or go with the S
Thanks for all the answers, I got the Vibrant!!!!
Now, when it arrives, then need to do some reading on roms, flash, root, etc as I dont know anything about them....
To get full flash in browser, and to get GPS to work fully (if it does not work, hopefully it will) what ROM is the best to flash? And by flashing that rom, will I lose any of the stock rom features?
Because my vibrant will have stock 2.1

I said the same thing to the T-Mobile Reps. a couple months ago The phone has actually changed the way I use smartphones. Before I was always tethered to my smartphone, now I have to make sure I don't forget to pick it up when I go or leave some place. I don't really use it that much. It's just not fun. I tend to carry my notebook with me, now, and of course my ZuneHD
I think my next phone will almost certainly have a full QWERTY slide-out. Swipes way of automatically adding typos to the dictionary is annoying. I spent like an hour last night just removing typos that kept registering as words when trying to send texts and stuff.
My thought is that the Vibrant is the best media device on the market right now. Great codec support, best screen, excellent storage.
I've considered buying the Nexus S to use as a phone and to keep the Vibrant like it's an iPod Touch, just a movie/music/game device.
Moved over from Big Red to Tmo to save some moola.
Loving my G2 thus far. Allready perm rooted and on CM6. Also dropped in my seidio 1750 from my Inc. I will enjoy this phone till I pick up a Nexus One.

I don't think anyone hates the N1, it's just not "new" anymore and therefore not as cool as the "newer" G2... you know the drill with us techies.
I don't think you'd be unhappy going from the G2 to the N1. I personally can't understand how you'd be able to like the N1 and not like the NS though... they're basically the exact same device minus the manufacturer's name. (putting my flame retardant suit on)

No flame here. I completely agree. I love the N1 too, but it is a year old now, the specs just aren't good considering what you can get now.
I agree on the Nexus S point as well. NS is the next iteration past the N1, and it really is a solid device.
My issue with the NS is more of an anti samsung thing. With them dropping the ball on the galaxy froyo updates I just can't back em. Plus I the N1 was sexier. Imo.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2
I also think about picking up an N1 to fiddle with. Love my G2, but I'm afraid I've become addicted to seeing what our brilliant devs can cook up. So, the idea of having both a daily driver and a toy is attractive.
Regarding the NS: I'm wary of Samsung. I'm sure it's a solid device and, having been tapped my Google to be the next Nexus, will continue to reflect the bleeding edge of Android for at least another year. However, Samsung's record of slow updates and less than solid build quality puts me firmly in the HTC fanboy house.
Not going to lie. The new 10.1 tablet is tempting even with Samsung written on it.

I got the lg g2x (ugly phone)on release date.
Since i was eligiable for an upgrade i decided to go with the g2x after reading all the reviews and specs i gave my wife the NS
5 days after
I miss the screen
How the NS Feels on my hand
G2x is fast but i havent really notice nothing really impresive
2.2 and god knows when 2.3 update will arrive
G2x camera sucks
Speakers are to low
Two Pros: 4G and HDMI tv output
Thankfully i got a defective unit (screen bleeding) so i will be returning my g2x today.
Should i get a replament unit or get myself another Nexus S?

If you already are disappointed and miss your NS, then why do you actually need our "permission" for this ? Just go for it ! If we would've said get another G2x instead of a new NS, would you have done this ? I, for one, wouldn't have. So yea man... just go for it, especially if you already know how the NS is and feels. Then you CAN'T go wrong.
Wait for sg2 or HTC sensation is what I think I would do just cuz dual core more future proof IMO I do like my nexus but Google isn't what its all cracked up to be IMO
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
The main reason I haven't got the G2X is because of its looks (Fugly little monster xD) but anyways, I did notice the camera was a lot better than the NS. Surprised to see you say it sucks lol. T-Mobile did say that 2.3 is not far away and also Cyanogen has been working on getting CM7 onto it which will definitely be 2.3.3
Anyways, I'm extremely happy with the Nexus S and besides a slightly faster phone with improved camera I don't see much of a reason to get the G2X.
I was going to make the jump to T-Mobile, and I held off a couple weeks to try the G2X. I was wary about service at my new place, because my AT&T didn't get any reception. I wanted to get something with UMA, and G2X seemed like the best phone with 4G and WiFi calling. Now that I've realized that I get perfect reception at my home, I don't need to stick with the G2X. After reception and battery issues with the LG, I'm welcoming the delivery of my Nexus S with open arms. I love the screens on my Focus and my old Captivate, so I'm really looking forward to Super AMOLED again.

I dunno about that. Play with an Atrix for a week and then get back to us
God knows I wont try that again.
I would go back to the sexy nexy Nexus-S is a bad ass device, who cares about dual core right now, I would wait until "Ice cream" update is out, for true dual core support, and then get the newest Android phone out at that time, which will probably be a dual core Nexus-3.0 that will be first phone with "Ice Cream" 3.1.
So get the Nexus-S now and have fun. And upgrade to the Nexus-3.0 next year.
Agreeing with the one saying that you don't need our permission. When I saw the G2X I fell in love, but I knew deep down that I would't love it as much as I love my Nexus S. You see, in the future there will be something similar to the Nexus S, the Galaxy S2. It will have better specs, and offer the same development ( or similar) that the Nexus S provides( unlocked boot loader). Trust me, keep your Nexus S and wait for that xD

What he said. But even with jailbreaking a device, customization is still very limited compared to a Android device with access to root / custom recovery.
@OP
I thought the G2X was extremely sexy, sure it looks a lot like the iPhone 4 but the edges were nice and for a 4inch device it felt amazing in the hand, I also loved how the speakers were not on the back, but the bottom(which makes it a great media experience).
Still, I would go with my NS.
Why didn't you guys did what I did got g2x when it came out and also kept my ns so I can switch between devices whenever I feel like. They're both nice phones I think when 2.3 comes out for g2x will be a lot better phone than it is.

Well the G2X just doesn't have the same look and feel as the Nexus S
you see the Nexus S looks like it was the only device on the planet to run stock Gingerbread, the device is all black, and so when you look at the status bar it blends in with the body of the device. The curved display just makes it look so distinct as well, and plus you can't forget about stock Android. Plus the specs are really not that noticeable. Yes that beast processor is better but the multi tasking experience would have been about the same.
I am currently on a sgs. Is it a good idea to change for a nexus s? Or should i wait for the sgs 2???

Couldn't agree more ! Well said.
Ok, so I bought a Nexus S around January of this year. Full price from Best Buy. Thought it was fantastic. It was my first "Nexus" phone. But a few months later, I got bored and heard about the Dual Core HTC Sensation. So I sold my Nexus S and bought the Sensation.
I loved this phone at first, but the novelty wore off. But the entire time I had it, the Nexus S was in the back of my mind. Sure the Sense 3.0 looks good, but for a dual core phone it didn't feel better. The Nexus S is faster. I know that Sense uses a lot of memory, and the Sensation was my first Sense phone, but it ruined Sense for me. I dislike Sense because of the Sensation and will probably never pick up another phone running Sense.
So, this weekend I sold the Sensation to a user on this site and bought another Nexus S. I feel that at this point, if it isn't a Nexus phone, then I don't want it. Dual core or not!
LOL thanks, i guess that summarizes what i've been hesitant about
I was also thinking about picking up the Sensation, or the G2x, but no matter how i looked at it, it didn't have as much development going on as the Nexus S
also the lack of SAMOLED is a big no no for me.
the only phone i've set my eyes on at the moment is the Samsung Hercules due out on the 09/26th
Yes, I missed the hell out of the Super AMOLED screen. It was one of those "don't know what you've got till its gone" type of things.
I would stay away from the Sensation and stay waaay the hell away from the G2X phones
The Super AMOLED spoiled me so I hope that Samsung gets the next Nexus phone too.

i wouldn't mind if they build them with SAMOLED from Samsung
after all Google is buying Motorola to get the patents to protect all big 3 (HTC, Samsung, Motorola)

Too late into the development cycle for Moto to get the next Nexus..but maybe the one after that. Plus, Andy Rubin just said even Moto would have to bid for the Nexus just like everyone else.

I returned my EVO-3D for my Nexus-S. The Nexus is the faster and smoother phone in my opinion.
Plus this screen after setting up Voodoo is amazing.
The next Nexus will be made by Samsung most likely or LG. I see Motorola making the Nexus-Four

I like the open, devvy nature of this phone.
I just wish my battery didn't suck.

To be quite honest, this is one of the less active boards, development wise. Not complaining, just pointing it out.

I don't mean xda's NS4G section, I mean the whole idea of the Nexus phones in general.

I think partly because it "just works".
The EVO boards everybody was trying to get AOSP/Cyanogenmod working and bugfree (bluetooth stack issues) and add Wimax support.
G2x also trying to get AOSP working, in a stable fashion. And they're trying to port the LG camera to AOSP. Also bluetooth issues there.
Here everything already just works.

Yeah, I remember seeing your name on the epic forums, the Epic ain't a bad phone, but the nexus is just to legit in every single way.

This has been covered ad nauseum, but basically the other phone development forums are swamped with activity, most of which revolves around trying to get their phones to be like the Nexus is out of the box.
Maybe someone can start posting ROMs with features like "SENSE-less, no Touch Wiz, MotoBlur removed, ZERO BLOAT!!!!!?!" and then we can be like the other forums.
I second that, OP. Had the NS4G but then bought an SGSII and jumped on AT&T. SGSII was an AWESOME phone hardware-wise, and really liked that I was only paying $10/mo data for unlimited hspa+. But software wasn't as good as stock GB, and I missed the form factor of the NS. So I sold the SGSII and now looking for an AT&T NS, probably a white one since they went down in prices recently...then consider the Nexus 3 when it comes out
I have to agree with most on this board. if you want the newest updates always and if you want all the apps to work with your phone right off the back, stick with nexus. skype and netflix worked with the nexus right off the back, it took a couple of months before most of the other phones caught up. nexus prime is definitely my next phone, and hopefully it drops soon
Does anyone know if there is still any place that sells brand new GT-I9020T Nexus S phones?
Best buy

and will that work on T-Mobile 3G? I see that it is listed as an AT&T phone
You have to pick the Tmobile one. They sell all 3.

are you sure? I don't see the T-Mobile Nexus S listed on their site...

traded an htc sensation for mine. no regrets
having trouble deciding between the Nexus S and the upcoming nexus prime.. the prime looks cool but 4.65 inch screen just seems impractical for a smartphone...
the prime is not going to be released any time soon
hope that helps
wait seriously? how do you know?

4.65" is including the part for "buttons" since they will be on the screen as there aren't any physical keys. so technically it isn't 4.65"

Depends on your definition of "soon".
As of right now it looks like it will be released around November.
If you want a cynic's opinion, here it is: The Nexus S was old-hat before it was even released. The only benefit was the ease of unlocking and getting updates first, which sounds awesome until you realize that the initial versions of GB were massively buggy. I'd expect the same for ICS. Add to that the fact that HTC is making it so you can easily unlock all of their phones and the list of reasons why I would want one gets much, much shorter. Non-existent, in fact. I'm actively looking for a way to get my hands on a device with hardware that wasn't dated before the first model rolled off the line or wasn't succeeded months later by a phone with a key feature the original was lacking for a more than sub-par carrier. I've said it before, but to save you the trouble of reading it somewhere else, I should have learned my lesson about buying Samsung phones after the Epic 4g debacle but I didn't. I have now and I'll advise anyone against buying their POS devices.
what does gingerbread being buggy have to do with samsung?

I'd say before the end of the year is "soon"

When did I say it did? Never? Yeah that's the answer to that. See there are things called 'lists' where you mention many things that are all related to one other topic but are not necessarily related to each other. Like a grocery list. See cereal and baby spinach are not related to each other but they are both things I need from the grocery store. Just like GB being buggy and my hatred for the way Samsung treats its customers are both reasons why I wouldn't want another nexus device but they are not related to each other. Does basic sentence structure make sense now?

I think he was confused (as was I) by the fact that your conclusion didn't really follow from your argument. You complained about the phone being outdated and you complained about gingerbread being buggy and then you ended by concluding that you shouldn't have bought a Samsung phone. But everything you complained of was Google's doing.

I just picked up an i9020t Nexus S knowing full well that the Nexus Prime is coming. You know why?
Refined Galaxy S hardware
Comfortable rounded edges (looking at you, captivate)
Great ROM support, with ICS on the horizon
Respectable battery life
Pretty freaking fast
So yeah, the phone's hardware is dated. However, the Nexus S is my favorite size and shape, and OC'ed to 1.2ghz with some speed hacks from different places, I can't even imagine wanting for more speed. Now, this is all my opinion, but you can land a Nexus S now for a reasonable price. So get one and have several happy months of hacking!
