but when i use the volume up/down button there is an strange animated image
and when i go in preferences on display i get an error with the process com.android.settings
also i get reboots sometimes
i used FrameworkUtility and the files i added to the post
plz help
Better Dont use it now
you can flash the file (framework-res.apk) with adb in the tools of android sdk
open cmd and type
cd (path like d:\android-sdk-windows\tools)
d: (when its on d
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
adb shell reboot
you can try to make new folder in the root /system/framework and copy the file there, reboot and delete the files, but for me it doesnt worked
i use mdeejays froyo hd 4.3
may work with other builds, but you can try it change your framework with the files und framework utility
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Guys,
i want to use a circular battery with %
so far i tried to use the graphics for a circullar battery which i copied into framework-res.apk with adb - this works
then i tried to add the %
i changed this files(tried it with files from diffrent threads) in framework-res.apk with adb
battery_charge_fill.xml
stat_sys_battery_charge.xml
zzz_stat_sys_battery_1.xml
stat_sys_battery.xml
but i then i have the problem that i have no battery indicator anymore or i get a boot loop.
i have read that the xml files are compiled so i decompiled the framework file with apk manager 4.9, packed the files in it but have some trouble to compile it again.i tried just to compress again but it doesnt work
so what is the problem?
compiling, the xml files, the graphics or are there more files i need?
or something else?
i know there is an app but if its possible i want to include this directly.
and i added the files i think are needed to get the full circular battery with % working
yes.. reemplacing framework of course works
but depende what kind of build are using.... for me, is easier to use and change in desire hd builds
Why dont you try replacing the framework-res.apk with one of these in this thread. It looks very similar to what you want and of course, you dont know until you try. I would not try the animated frameworks, just to be on the safe side. Of course, it would help if we knew which build you are using.
i use MDJ FroYo HD v.4.3
i dont want to replace the whole framework i want to know how i can change it on my framework

Okay I am trying to make some changes to my Rosie. I'm not going to ask how to make the changes I want I will hopefully figure it out myself....My question is about apktool. I keep getting FC on startup after trying to decompile and the build the rosie apk without making changes. What I've done
1) apktool d Rosie.apk
no errors ( Yes I have put the correct htc framework into apktool fw)
2)I Made no changes at all
cd Rosie
apktool b
3)I go to the build dir and the apk is there from here I have tried two different things
3a) Sign the apk using
java -jar signapk.jar testkey.x509.pem testkey.pk8 Rosie.apk your_app_signed.apk
3b)Leave the apk alone withouot signing it since it's a system app I dont think it needs to be signed, but I'm not sure
4) I put into a flashable file, in my update script I wipe dalvik cache as well, everything installs fine and I know this step isn't the issue
5) I reboot nand get constant FC so I have to pull the battery
I can't figure out why I'm getting this error so If anyone can help I would appreciate it alot....Thanks
it's not just Rosie I cant get to work....It's any apk...I decompile and build and they dont work with non changes....any ideas?
Hey bro I just started a thread on this in the theming section I'm with you on the Rosie.apk can't get it to work.
I haven't done system apps before, but I have successfully used apktool. There is (if it's different or maybe I'm just losing my mind) and additional tool called apk manager that utilizes the apk tool. That's what I've used that's so successful. It basically just gives you a list of choices with what to do with your apk. All you do is place the apk in the specific folder where the script can reach it and then run he script, make your choices, and bam. You have what you want. That could be either a system apk, regular apk, or a folder that's been decompiled. (I used a tool after that called j2gui that let's you take the .classes file and see a near perfect reproduction of the original java code).
Jack Attack!
I have had my fair share of dealings with Rosie, but apktool can do the job.
Everything up to Step 3 is good, although I don't 'cd' into Rosie, I just run:
apktool b Rosie from the previous folder.
Anyway, system files like Rosie do not need to be signed so scrap that route. The issue you have is with the new Rosie.apk that's been compiled not containing the original META-INF folder so won't be accepted by the system.
Check out this post that describes in full what I am trying to say. You'll want to focus on Step 3 and onwards in that post
i'm trying to do the same thing and i'm having a ton of different problems.
I believe about a month ago I checked the Apktool website and checked their list of bugs. There is a really nasty bug in the newest version (at the time I read it) where if you generated your .apk, then some things would be written incorrectly and of course would be the reason why your apps no longer work.
I'm gonna suggest you all check what versions you have and go to the previous version which worked great, or they might have fixed that already.
Hello,
I found this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765419

1) Is it possible to "tweak" our framework-res.apk with this battery mod.
2) Can I use this method to "tweak my framework-res.apk : http://circle.glx.nl/
3) When I download my new framework-res.apk, how to boot on recover mode on the phone to put the framework-res.apk on the system ?
4) Do you know an other easylier method to tweak icons on the HD2 under android ?
Thanks a lot !
+1 I asked myself to but no time to seach forum

Ok I think I'll answer this, but bear with me as it's NOT easy or for the faint of heart. If you read this and you DO NOT feel comfortable I would recommend you not giving this a go.
Before you start ANY of these steps below, MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR FILES BEFORE REPLACING THEM. I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED FOLLOWING THESE STEPS! You have been warned.
1) Visit the website above and run through the steps to get the battery images you want. For the purposes of this tutorial/howto I am not covering how to change anything else (KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid).
2) The easiest ones to change are the Version A-I ones, just choose which battery set would work best for you on your phone and click "Next"
3) Choose "Do not include icons" and click next. The icons it is talking about here are the signal, wifi, usb etc notification bar icons and as I mentioned I will not cover how to change those here.
4) Leave "Do not change notification status bar" selected and click next. Again I'm not covering that here.
5) You can choose a different boot anim if you want, they are very easy to upload to your phone and you can figure out where they have to be put yourself with no problems. IMPORTANT: If you do change the boot animation, make sure you choose the correct type of rom you have from the dropdown selection.
6) Upload your existing framework-res.apk (using something like DroidExplorer, navigate to /system/framework and paste it onto your desktop, then upload here). This will update the relevant files in your framework-res.apk automatically. (If you cannot obtain your existing framework-res.apk I cannot guarantee method 2 will work, sorry but feel free to try)
7) Replace your framework-res.apk (via DroidExplorer or your chosen ADB browser) on your phone and reboot. Voila!
This worked for me on shubcraft 2.0 drop mode but obviously I cannot guarantee it will work for everyone. Please remember my warnings above that this is not guranteed.

there is another far more complicated way around it, but it really does take about half an hour to work out.
Basically, you need to get your framework-res.apk and extract it with winrar or something similar (an apk is basically just a zip file) and find the folder called res/drawable-HDPI. this is where all the icons for things like your battery icons live.
Copy and paste the new icons from someone elses framework-res or even one you download from the website above into this folder and replace the drawable-HDPI folder into your framework-res.apk, replace it onto your phone and reboot.
Again, this is a quick description of a much lengthier way of doing it but it does work. Also, my disclaimer in the post I made before still stands, do this AT YOUR OWN RISK and do NOT complain to me if something breaks. If you don't fully understand, don't do anything.
I tried the kitchen method, but I receive a huge error log after uploading the framework apk

It doesn't seem to work all that well with frameworks from our current modded builds. I've tried it with a rooted desire framework (from my gf's desire) and that worked. Evidently all the work that the devs do on our hd2's make them very different to other android builds. the second method I posted (adding the png's to your existing framework) works perfectly.

This method will not work with the battery icons which shows all 100% increments. This method will only work for the standard battery icons, which only involves like 12 battery icons.
In order to add the 1% increment readings in the battery, it involves modifying xml files to read and associate the correct battery icons at each increment.
can you give a tut how to add the version a manually?

[Guide]Solving T-Mobile Engine/Cyanogenmod Theme "IMPROPERLY COMPILED" error
If u r using Cyanogenmod or Metamorph then u might see an error "THEME IMPROPERLY COMPILED" while applying some themes... Sometimes it might get fixed by just restarting the phone but many times it doesnt... There is a simple fix for this...
Requirements:-
1. Windows PC
2. Java Installed
Get one from here...
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
3. apktool
Download here http://www.multiupload.com/OV96GE5JOL
4. Autosign Tool http://www.mediafire.com/?recnmyzergg
5. .apk file of the theme which you want to make work (there are many tools to create apk file of apps you downloaded like Astro file manager or Estrong file manager)
Huh.. That was quiet simple...
Procedure:-
1. Install the java you downloaded
2. Extract the apktool & autosign you downloaded (i assume you extracted it on desktop for convenience)
3. place .apk file of the theme in the same folder where you extracted apktool & rename it to something simple like theme.apk (in my case it is desktop/apktool)
4. open command prompt (type cmd in run)
5. Go to the location with command prompt where you extracted the apk tool
(in my case type cd desktop)
6. then type cd apktool ( I assume there is no sub folder inside apktool folder)
7. Now type apktool d theme.apk
It will process some files and in less then a minute it will be completed
8. Now type apktool b theme
9. Open the folder apktool on desktop (with windows explorer and not with cmd)
Go to folder "Theme", Open folder "dist"
10. Copy the file "theme.apk" inside dist folder and paste it in autosign folder on desktop (which you extracted earlier)
NOTE:- There shouldn't be any other .apk file except theme.apk in autosign folder)
11. Now open sign.bat and press any key to sign the app...
YOU ARE DONE
A file will be generated with name "your_app_signed.apk" copy this to your phone and install this (obviously after removing the theme which was giving error)
Now it should work without any problems..
NOTE:- In theme manager you wont get display image of the theme instead you will get a black coloured image with name @string/theme_name....
This is the theme you just installed (I dont know y no image is shown in display after recompiling)
IT MIGHT SEEM A DAUNTING TASK FOR THE BEGINNERS BUT IN SHORT WHAT I HAVE DONE IS EXPLAINED YOU THE WHOLE PROCESS IN DETAIL OF DECOMPILING & COMPILING THE APK FILE AND THEN SIGNING IT
Alternative
Thanks for solution friend, u can also add this aternative fix to ur post.

Using a Note 3 from T-Mobile, I pulled the file with the adb command, with root explorer, and extracted it from the stock ROM file all giving me the same error. For some reason I also don't get any smali files out of my SystemUI.apk which has been driving me crazy. I can't seem to find any working answers yet... Fail...

Summary/Lessons Learned in the last 24 hours:
I must have been too tired, went to sleep got up again and went at it. I realized a few things, main thing was deodexing, I learned all about that. Converting the .odex file to a class.dex file inside the SystemUI.apk and SecSettings.apk so decompiling would work properly (I was originally missing the smali folder without deodexing my app). Second I needed to pull all the framework files from my device instead of just the two I had, then I used "apktool if framework-res.apk" then "apktool if twframework-res.apk" then "apktool d SystemUI.apk" then "apktool d SecSettings.apk". This time it actually worked, I proceeded to try and re-compile them just to test. The SystemUI.apk worked flawlessly but the the SecSettings.apk had errors then I realized I needed to copy the AndroidManifest.xml and resources.arsc from the original app to the decompiled folder and the SecSettings.apk compiled with no issues. I had to get the original file out of the stock ROM, it had gotten damaged somehow with zipping/raring/7zipping so quicktip no one should be zipping the files you're about to work on get it fresh from the ROM.
Current Issue:
Now that all that's done I'm onto what I was trying to get at when I started this whole project. I need to modify both of these apps which are now perfectly deodexed and on my stock device. Every time I try to modify these files I lose my status bar and my settings stop working, I'm obviously breaking it, this is the XDA guide I was following.
Any help or redirection on where to post would be greatly appreciated, thanks
Easiest thing - put your mod back in and get the status bar to disappear/fc whatever
Then, pull a log (catalog from appstore works fine)
Post that log at pastebin and link it here
We won't be able to solve your issue without knowing what it is, in the first place
Like this?
This was before I restarted: Log 1
Then I recorded for a little after I restarted probably pointless but that's where the error would have been: Log 2

Not sure exactly how to record it and send it to you, I pressed record but when the phone finished rebooting CatLog was closed so I reopened it and it keeps scrolling endlessly.
Research progressed a little
I came across a post here in the Flashlight Mod development thread which made me realize I'm not getting the ID's correct. They suggest compiling the modded SystemUI.apk to get the ID's into the apk file under the /res/values/public.xml file, then decompiling it to read the ID values. I'm missing a step or doing something wrong, I can't replicate it to find the ID values I need so I can add them to the .smali file and recompile a final time. I'm sure this is the only reason for the missing status bar and the force closes. I guess I need help understanding, a different set of instructions or just more detailed?
I can't post in that thread yet so I'm getting my posts up over here, I already posted in the Q&A thread but no one has responded yet, any help is greatly appreciated!
I get this when decompiling the modded apk: Modded SystemUI ApkTool Decompile
All these errors look like the file is broken now or something, I'm just lost at this point. I tried ApkTool 1.5.2 and 2.0 as well.
EDIT:
Additional info below for troubleshooting purposes since it seems my issue recompiling at the end to get the values for my public.xml
STEPS:
1. deodex (universal deodexer v5)
2. decompile (apktool 1.5.2 & 2.0 separate tests)
3. modify (add flashlight .png's and .smali file from 4.4kk flashlight mod files)
4. recompile (apktool)
5. decompile (apktool)
=
Errors <<<<< These errors solved in edit below
EDIT:
I forgot to use "apktool if SystemUI.apk" when loading "framework-res.apk" & "twframework-res.apk" now I get through decompiling and recompiling like I thought I should be and I even located the values int he public.xml, replaced them in the .smali and everything went peachy. Only problem is I never get the status bar after I reboot, not really getting any FC's but the status bar, if my goal were to get it to be invisible I would be so happy omg lol If you're curious I've also tested by signing and even another test with zipalign, nothing zip/zero/zilch...
EDIT... Again I know still no sleep, durp durp:
So my main issue was not using apktool v1.5.2 to decompile and v2.0 to compile EVERY SINGLE TIME, NO EXCEPTIONS. When I followed that simple rule I get it onto my device and she has no status bar... Hmmmmm..... And a logcat for anyone smart enough to help me
EDIT:
Maybe I'm in the right direction with an error I saw in the log at this post? I thought it was so I installed the DisableSignatureVerification Mod from the Xposed Modules and still nothing.
Calling All Developers
It's been like 2 weeks just curious if anyone has even looked at this, I haven't been able to make any progress so I started learning how to develop apps. I made two small apps basic flashlight and a counter app but I really want to know why I'm totally unable to mod a file on my phone. I can't get the ink effect to work with finger input either I've been really trying to get this flashlight mod and the ink effect for months. If I could get pointed in the direction of a developer that can actually help me I don't see why I couldn't donate like $10 or $20 to the one who helps me. I'm on android 4.4.2 (NK3) on my Note 3 from T-Mobile.
Hello! I'm trying to make something relatively simple, but i'm doing something wrong. What i want to achieve is to change the stock battery icon with a circle with % inside. I managed to decompile LGSystemUI.apk using the latest apktool. I changed the pngs and edited the battery stats and chatging animation xmls. I'm not touching the .odex file since i don't have anything to change there. I recompiled the apk again using the apktool and zipaligned it. And here comes the issue - once i push it to the phone and reboot i get only desktop without navbar, status bar and lock screen. I don't get a FC but the Systemui is not loading properly. I also tryed to sign the zipaligned apk which resulted in constant FC from LGSystemUI, something which i don't get is the apk is not signed. I lost a significant amount of time recompiling and trying different combinations but the result is always the same - either fc or no fc but ststemui is not loaded. Can you do please help me with some ideas what i might be doing wrong?

I use Advanced APK Tool , and have changed apktool.jar to 2.0.0 RC4.
DonĀ“t sign the file, that is wrong.
Have u tried only replace the new (recompiled) files in the original LGSystemUI.apk (the xml & png , ressources if u need)
i tried several tools and many combinations today - they're all either FC-ing or just giving the desktop without status bar, navbar and lock screen. i tried both odexed and deodexed version. i tried taking files from the original lgsystemui.apk, i also tried injecting already compiled xml and png-s to the original - nothing. i have the feeling i'm missing something. i'm installing both the framework-res.apk and the lge-res.apk to the tools i tried to work with. everything decompiles and recompiles without a single error. no matter what i try i get the same 2 types of errors, which i mentioned above. i also tried not signing, signing with the original signature and signing with a new signature. everything should be relatively simple, but the output never works. do i need to decompile/recompile (or deodex) the framework too?
show me your changed files, i will try for myself
I tried to do some changes too, I tried deodexing systemUI and odex and same result as you
Hi i see you have manged to make it work in your other thread. May i know which files and code i need to edit in order to make this work. I know how to compile and decompile ,sign, zipalign......etc. i have checked other tutorials to do this in the net but to no avail. Ty in advance.
Hello, yes I managed to make it work using the latest ApkTool 2.0.0 rc4. Also it's a good idea to use something like TickleMyAndroid tool or similar automated de/recompile script. You need to sign with the original signature in order to make it work. Also please keep an eye on the exact version of the ApkTool included in the tool, only rc4 is working fine with our stock Rom.
There's no need to deodex if you only want to make some cosmetic changes.
