After finally getting froyo 2.2 on 3 , after a week its still quite laggy, ive read a few posts suggesting a factory reset, my question is if i do a factory reset using the 3 button recovery mode, what will i lose off the fone?? do i keep my apn settings, contacts etc??
Why dont u just root ur phone n install a lagifix?
P.s factory reset will delete everythin but the contents on ur sd card

Factory reset makes your phone like new just like how you bought it, if you want it to go faster just apply a lagfix! Voodoo or One click lagfix
I know the lagfix are available which is my second step, but first i want to do a reset, a list of what is lost and kept would be bery helpful.
Thanks

i've just tried upgrading to the new froyo build through kies, but on completion my phone will not turn back on. All i am getting is black screen with random vibrations. I can get into download mode though. Anyone have a link to jf3 or jm1 original firmwares so i can flash back via odin then try kies again?
Go to recovery (volup+home+power) wipe data/factory reset and it will work, happened to me also.

man I cant stress this enough.. THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!!!! After this happened to me I was ready to 1) give up, 2) try to reflash with odin 3) try something even more crazy..
and you saved my but ! I did as you said and it just started up perfectly ! Now I have froyo, all my data, and dont have to reflash or anything !
I just have one question if I may please !
I had a lagfix installed and I didnt disable it before I did the flashing, so do I still have it or what ? Because I didnt loose any data but the applications that I had instaled are not showed anymore.. which bugs me because Ill have to clean up and redo everything.. but at least Ill have a clean phone )
thanks again man !
You need to dis able lag fix before updating or anything

of course I know that now , the issue with my situation would be that after I got it working (did what BaalBehrit said) the phone would boot up normaly, but all apps including of course One-click Lag fix were still there but didn't show as installed apps, nor had they any icons for that matter. Therefore disabling it before second flash was virtualy imposible.
What I did was simple. I backed all my data to my computer and then just formated both SD cards - that probably took care of the lagfix, after that, I did the flash again and everything run smoothly.
but you're right I have to remember for next time
Hey
After I read that the battery life could be improved by factoryreset-ing the sg2, i resetted it in recoverymode.
And now it stuck on the boot Logo, displaying the big animated endless looping
S
Samsung
GALAXY S II
.. and then i tryd to flash a new firmware, litening rom and I thought it would fix the problem, but no, it didnt.
I use the kernel from chainfire with Clockworkmod v3.0.0.5 + the other good stuff.
what can I do ???
edit: I try to restore my backup now
Ok cool.. the restore process works pretty good.
Everything is like it was tonight, when i backed it up.
Ok, now is the question, why does the factory reset does not work here ?
I'm pretty sure they are taking about resetting it from within the phone, ie settings, private, factory reset
Edit: It's working as intended, you wiped your data partition. Needless to say this renders the phone pretty much useless

ok, i made a factory reset within the phone now
lets see..
Again.. same effect.. used the holy wcm to resque me.
maybe its because of the frozen sysapps that i instandly froze with TB after installing litening rom..
need to reinstall it again now.
Damn, i would like to have a real clean startup again.. and try if anything changes with the battery power.
My theory is, that many of us have a different hardware.. like battery type or a different screen or something..
Its like the 5 different firmwares for the mmols camera..
ok, i will now flash litening rom and configure it...
ps: don't forget to back it up yo!

how did u manage to solve it ..? i am facing with the same problem also ...thnaks!
Did you try to flash original kernel and then factory reset?
Had the same problem and downloaded from xda the original ke7 and installed it
problem solved. Then did a rooting again. Hope this helps.
It seems, that wiping the dalvic cache will produce that effect.
Because in the dalvic cache, there are many informations saved how your system is configurated..
For example your google account is also saved there within the google framework and the account and sync settings in the dalvic cache.
But not only there, there are some other places to.
Maybe i will make a tutorial in a while, how to change or delete the google account, because you can't delete or change it the normal way.
i solved this with wip data/cache

thanks i hope so

it works thank you great
You can always try a rollback to Froyo or Donut and then factory reset and reflash.
That worked for me when I had problems flashing nFinity GB.
Don't forget to have patience at initial start, it can take several minutes.

I just got a used A500. How do I do a full master reset so I can make it like I just opened it up new. Thanks guys,
Go to settings>Privacy>factory data reset...
There's also a reset button on your device Or has this button another function?
Yes however I do believe that this does not clear the internal SD storage. I too wonder about the op`s question. How does on completely reset the tablet including the internal sdcard.

If you do this and the previous owner had deleted phone.apk and telephonyprovider.apk from /system/apps, then it'll get stuck at the logo when rebooting. Check to make sure those files are there before doing a factory reset or data wipe.
Also, Check to see what ROM is on it. Is it stock? or is it a custom ROM? If a custom ROM, then to make it new you'd have to install STOCK.
So it comes down to how NEW you want it.
There's a thread that discusses downgrading to 3.01 using nvflash. That's the most sure way of putting back to factory settings, without knowing the exact status of it currently.
The easiest method probably is to just install a custom or stock ROM with a data wipe. But you need to do a little digging to find out if your on the old bootloader or new one and weather or not the tablet is already rooted.
Hey guys, I'm having a serious problem with my Note 3 running kitkat, I attempted to modify the platform.xml and I don't exactly know what I did but i was attempting to allow apps to write to my external SD card, but I didn't change the permissions on it now the device literally is as about as useful as a brick.
-It will not run apps
-Internet doesn't work
-Various other problems
I've had a look at some other threads but my knowledge on androids is quite little, It was rooted by a friend who didn't exactly explain Rom's for android. So I'm wondering what I can do because I have some important things on my phone I do not want to loose, and from what i'm aware of a factory reset isn't the best option, if there's a way other than factory restoring it, I did see another solution with using ADB I think it was but i'm sure there is another way I can fix it. Note: Cannot browse any files or modify them they're not visible.
Thanks
Edit: Tried a factory restore from the restore menu I had with the root called CWM-base recovery same issue still popped up.
2nd Edit: Fixed the issue wasn't easy(This is for the people that have the same issue) I basically used android debug bridge to install root explorer, just download the android SDK from google and look up a tutorial on how to install apps, I modified the xml file to a stock one I had in the /system before I modified it, due to the apps crashing nothing would open so I couldn't do this, after that I restarted the phone made sure the apps crashed again, this was a good thing that they crashed, all I did after that was a factory reset never lost app data or my text files, everything is working and thank you guys for the help Some of my apps were gone but I had written them down so yeah, it was an annoying issue not exactly an easy fix b ut it works.
Hey. If u perform data wipe in recovery, u do not lose any files from your phone so this should be safe.
Unfortunately I have no idea how to fix the problem with XML file, but u can safely wipe your phone or reflash your rom.

"data wipe in recovery" By this do you mean the volume up + volume down + home till you get to the menu and press the restore? I just read this somewhere sorry for the noob question?
U press home +volume up +power button combo, until it reboots into recovery. Then you select wipe and factory reset or similar option. Just do not perform perform any formats, cause that's what erases your data. fingers crossed!

I pressed that some little blue and yellow writing came up and my phone's screen went black I guess it either ran out of charge or something else i'll just wait and thanks so much for the help.
Always remember to have your phone over 30-40% of battery when u go to recovery to avoid your phone going off when messing with your phone
If u can get your phone to recovery, you can try to copy important files from there to your of and completely wipe everything and flash a new ROM.

So once my phone comes back on I can do a factory reset and hope for the best? I don't really want all of my apps to go or anything i've installed on the actual device, so when I do a factory reset will this remove everything i've got, i'm not entirely sure how i'd copy the files on to my pc because I couldn't browse anything on the device last time i plugged it in after I modified the platform.xml
You will keep your files but all the apps will be removed, so you will need to install them back. Probably you could copy the file you messed up from someone else and try to get tour phone back up but I am not sure how to do it.

Ok thanks a ton for the help, I'm going to see if there's a way to use the adb utility to pull the file I damaged get a stock one and push it, I don't know if it will work but i'll give it a go, or should I just do a factory reset? I'd prefer to keep my apps but if it means I have to wipe them I will.
You can give it a try and then if it doesn't work, do the factory reset
Let us know how u do

Did the factory restore, via the boot thing same issue and the stupid app crashing, I'm puzzled on what to do. Any other solutions I'm concerned my phone is literallly broken now.
Factory reset does only reformat cache, Dalvik and data partition. If you tinkered with your system one and rendered something useless, it won't help you at all to do a factory reset. It just does not touch the normally READ ONLY system. If you wanna fix it, and you have no setting to fix permissions in TWRP/CWM you have to reflash the system, either by reflashing the custom ROM you used from there or by using Odin and flashing the original system back to it. This is why you ALWAYS should have a TWRP (or if you really think about outdated stuff... CWM) FULL backup ready and armed.
