Wifi 3g disabled / routing q. - Galaxy Tab General

When I disable wifi and disable data network mode (by holding down power button) i still have signal bars next to my battery. What does this mean? Is it still possbily transmitting RF? Flight mode does however seem to turn it off.
Also is there a way to enable wifi for local lan access only but use 3G for interet? It seemes enabling wifi takes priority over 3G. Is there an app in which I can manually set static routes?

[REQ] app that stops DATA when being connected to Wifi

hi,
the data (3g/2g) is taking alot of my battery life..
i'm looking for someting like "setting profiles" that is running as a service and while being connected to wifi its automatically disabling the data (Data enabled)
and returning it to enabled when there is no wifi connection...
i didn't see in setting profiles option to set profile without data....
when you connect to wifi, android OS turns of the 3g data connection already.

As far as I know, Android turns off data when on wifi automatically without any additional software

Turns off, or just uses the WiFi preferentially? There's a difference, though operationally perhaps irrelevant.
My NS frequently shows BOTH the WiFi connected and the Edge signal indicator while I'm at home. Both green.

it turns it off. the 3g data session is terminated once you connect to wifi, and when you turn off wifi, the 3g data connection is re-established.
Agreed, it turns OFF the the 3g data. Notice that when you get on WiFi, that the wifi icon appears, and the 3g icon DISAPPEARS. This is because it's disabling the 3g since it has access to a wifi connection
this has been the default since as far as i've used Android

Does the DroidX bridge network connections?

If I have just my cell radio enabled, then I enable the WiFi - does the phone disable the data on the cell radio, or leave both enabled?
If both are enabled, then is it bridged or not? In other words, when I have my WiFi on, will I get the speed of my WifI + Cell service?
If the data connection is not bridged, then it seems pretty silly to have WiFi options on location apps, like Latitude, since this means that if you lose the WiFi connection, the phone will not know to switch back to the cell data connection.
No when wifi is enabled the phone has no use for 3g so it disables it until u turn wifi off. Oh and I use an app called quick settings from the market cause u can manually turn off everything with it and makes ur battery last way longer too

New Note unable to connect to wifi

Hi, I have enabled Airplane mode and WiFi. However, I still cannot use WiFi at home. In particular, the device keeps scanning for network connection. After I chose my home network, it stayed there for about a second "remembered". Then, when the device started scanning again, my home network connection was disabled. Since I cannot connect to the network for more than a second, I cannot use WiFi yet. Is there something wrong with my new device? Please help.
P.S. For some reason, Mobile Network, Bluetooth Settings and Call are dimmed. I don't use 3G.
You need to turn off airplane mode, having it on blocks all network activity.

Actually not true, I can still connect to wifi when on airplane mode. If your in an airplane and there is wifi than this helps switching the phone to airplane mode than just using the provided wifi.
Anyways about the wifi, looks like it could be your modem settings if you changed them recently, if you didn't change them, forget your network on your phone and re add your network which will refresh your modem's settings. After this it should connect fine

airplane mode, auto ap, and wifi

Just got the new nexus 4 and I'm trying to set it up like my galaxy nexus. I have tmobile's $30 / month plan and use sipdroid at home to make wifi calls so as not to go into my 100 minutes.
It seems like auto AP does not work on the nexus 4. In addition, when I manually toggle airplane mode it turns off all radios and I cannt reactivate wifi (even manually in settings). Any fix for this?

You do know the point of airplane mode, right? It disables EVERYTHING.
If you want ONLY wifi, disable data in your phone settings. In 2.3.6 (N4 today!) it's wireless and network settings, mobile networks, uncheck "data enabled"
You could also get a toggle app like widgetsoid and disable background data sync, or settings, accounts and sync settings, uncheck background data and auto-sync.

Right but on my galaxy nexus I could enable airplane mode turning off everything, then turn on wifi. All I'm looking to do is disable the cell connection whenever I'm connected to wifi.
This happens on my Nexus 4 as well. I had my Nexus S setup this way as well. I use CSipSimple + PBX account, etc. Anyways, Airplane mode constantly disables WiFi, no matter what. And yes the app AutoAP doesn't work either.
I have found this app, Airplane Mode Wi-Fi Tool, funny that it was made for Android versions prior to 2.0.
The actual app doesn't seem to work (to enable/disable airplane mode and WiFi), but within the app lies a nifty feature in the Preferences menu under Extras:
Keep Wi-fi On
Wi-fi on Airplane Mode
Check both of those and you should be able to turn Airplane mode on and then keep WiFi on.
Cheers.

You can try to see if those apps work.
AutoAir for automatically toggling airplane mode when connected to wifi (doesn't check if there's an actual connection to the Internet though. don't know if your app does)
Plane Mode Tweaker for allowing wifi and bt to be usable in airplane mode. It can also make it so wifi/bt don't get disabled upon entering airplane mode if they were enabled previously.
Y5 for automatically toggling wifi on when in range and off when away. Since it determines location by logging the cell towers you're connected to, the phone should not be in airplane mode initially. Walk around the house and anywhere you have wifi since you may be in range of multiple cell towers. It's best to leave the radio on for a few days so it can learn all the towers. After that, it works very well.
With that battery of apps, everything becomes pretty seamless. I have it set to always use Google Voice. This way, I don't have any additional prompts when using the native dialer, and the other party sees my GV#. When I go home, Y5 turns wifi on, AutoAir sees wifi and enables airplane mode, and Plane Mode Tweaker prevents wifi from being taken down again. The native dialer will automatically trigger Sipdroid, and again the recipient sees my GV#. Leave home and lose wifi and airplane mode is disabled, then wifi gets disabled. Seamless. Only problem is calls won't handoff between sipdroid and cell obviously.
I'm kind of assuming the apps may be calling the same functions/methods/whathaveyou and it may not work either.

WIFI Issues

I've had my Nexus for about a week now and noticed two strange issues with the WIFI connection.
1. I can connect to WIFI successfully at home but as soon as I go out and it switches to the 2G network and then later go back inside the WIFI doesn't auto connect it will stay on 2G, I have to disable and enable WIFI to connect to my home WIFI, is there a way round this or is it a bug?
2. Whenever I'm out an about and the phone detects a WIFI network even if its not configured to connect to the WIFI network the phone seems to disable 2G Data connection and continually notifies me of a WIFI network being in range and wanting to configure it, is there anyway of disabling this behavior and allowing the 2G Data connection to be active when no configured WIFI network are in range?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Jon
Really can't help you much on the settings as I don't quite have my N4 but you should always turn wifi off when you're not using it. You will get much better battery and you wont have problem with #2. Sorry I couldn't really help much.

I have the same issue number 1. I find the battery is getting used quickly and the wifi will not connect. if i disable then enable, it quickly connects to the known wifi signal. I can see a different battery decay slope if I let this problem persist for a few hours, it then reverts to its usual slope once wifi is restarted. This problem usually only occurs once a day on average. I hope someone knows how to solve this issue.
cheers
Rich
