I rooted and installed RomManager. I was also able to reboot and take a backup of my existing 1.31 rooted image.
If I install an Unsigned Stock Froyo ROM that isn't rooted an contains no modifications to it. Will I be able to downgrade and install other ROMs in the future using RomManager? Or will the new stock Rom wipe out any modifications I made once HBOOT is upgraded?
thanks in advance.

Anyone can help me with install of CM01 custom recovery. I never had this done. I have stock VM Froyo 2.2.2 ec7 stock and perm rooted.
Hi,
I was running 2.3.4 on my Defy+, and sucessfully rooted it using SuperOneClick.
Then installed 2ndinit and tried to install CM7.1, but it failed (as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21272667#post21272667), so I tried an OTA update, and it updated it to 2.3.6
Now however, the phone is not rooted (presume the OTA 'unrooted'), but superuser is still in app drawer and 2ndinit boot menu is there still.
In boot menu, if I try 'customer recovery', it fails, telling me something doesn't exist - I presume because it's not rooted.
However, now I cannot root it running 2.3.6 - I have tried a heap of different methods posted in threads, but I still cannot root it...
So... other than a new rooting method, I was thinking to restore it to 2.3.4 where I can root it and try CM again.
I did a stock recovery on the phone, and it returned it to it's factory state, BUT still updated as 2.3.6 - stock recovery did not return it to 2.3.4, nor did it remove superuser app or 2ndint.
How do I / can I revert it back to 2.3.4 so I can essentially start again?
I can't 'uninstall' 2ndint or access Nandroid (I have a nandroid backup of original 2.3.4...) as it's not rooted!
Thanks in advance!
Rob
Fixed by completely bricking the phone (black screen, no boot at all, but RSDLite recognised it) by installing some unusable ROM (don't ask why), and then using RSDLite to flash a new 2.3.6 Defy+ Rom and then that rom was rootable using SuperOneClick.
The ROM that I got on there working was "DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-132_BLUR"
DO I HAVE TO ROOT MY PHONE TO INSTALL THIS STOCK ROM VIA CWM , AS GIVEN IN THIS LINK >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1758884
i think not since OP did not mention any root or SU privileges needed
but just to be safe,
root it
as per experience with installing different roms, from installing fresh stock rom which is not rooted to flashing custom roms. i was able to install it successfully. but just to be safe, root it as mentioned by deathnotice.
for me rooting 1st is prioterize cause example installing tweaks somekind needs root previlage... for me thats my opinion
There is no harm in rooting. That stock rom is rooted anyway
CWM Install

You don't need to root your phone to flash a custom or stock rom. The simple reason is that all custom roms are pre-rooted roms with superuser pre-installed and flashing of stock roms doesn't need rooting. Don't forget to back up your stock rom and kernel via cwm recovery if you didn't own a pc as a safety measure in case you wanted to revert back to it in the event of bootloops or otherwise. If you do have a pc, it is not necessary as you can flash back to stock rom and kernel via odin. If you don't know how to flash via odin search the forum for tutorial. In case if you don't have any odin flashable firmware package, it is advisable that you create a back up. Sorry for the long reply.

Stock ROM is possible to flash only by Odin.
Imho rooted stock doesn´t exist. You must root it after instal.
easiest way to to flash latest available rom for your region/carrier using odin, then root using towelroot. i'm using the latest uk btu which is still FNB8. I've tried loads but always seem to come back to this setup, it's the most stable for me.
If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to be able to root/unroot at will?
Easiest way I found is if you have custom recovery Philz. With this you can go into Philz setting, restore root and then install SuperSU from store. Then to unroot just choose "Full unroot" in SuperSU app and you're done.
You can also use twolroot to root the phone then install SuperSU to full unroot.....although I've found that this can take a couple of attempts of rooting/unrooting before the UNROOT will hold for some reason. At the moment I'm on totally stock ROM, stock recovery, but I rooted with towelroot to make some adjustments using xposed/wanam and to edit the snd_soc_msm files for louder music and remove bloatware using rootexplorer, and have now finally got unroot by rebooting/clearing cache at each stage of the process (i.e. when i root, when i install supersu, when i update the binary in supersu, then i reboot one more time once root is confirmed working, then full unroot and uninstall towlroot app and reboot/clear cache once more).
So now I have a sort of custom stock rom without root, sky go player working. Perfect setup until I get brave and a new update comes out.
::EDIT::
there are also pre-rooted stock roms in this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250824
not sure if the procedure for unrooting would be the same though? or even if you can using these roms?
Hey guys,
I am sorry for creating the thread if it is already answered somewhere but i didn't manage to find it.
I have a stock LP ROM and I've rooted it and installed custom recovery, and now OTA won't install v30d since device is suspected of rooting. I've already tried unrooting the device through superSU but it wasn't helpful. Do I need to restore a stock recovery too or what's the catch? By the way I don't want to reinstall stock ROM because I am already using it and it works pretty fine but it is bugging me that the phone keeps informing me about new ROM and I can't install it.
Please help or at least point me to the right place and again I don't want to reinstall stock ROM
Install recovery buckup data then flash stok rom then update and last install recovery again and restore data
