First android phone, just wondering if i can hide the top bar, or make it opaque? as my wallpapers get chopped off
also, can i change the t-mobile screen at start up and shut down, bit gay looking, want it removed.
(does it involve flashing new roms, or are there programs out there?
(came from wm where anything was possible)
cheers
You can remove the T-Mob splash screen with going S-OFF and flashing a new one.
The second T-Mob screen is your bootanimation, this will go away with a custom rom.
Look for all the tutorials in the development section. There is all you need.
You can hide the top bar with Launcher Pro.
What do you mean by the top bar?
That's interesting that your phone has the crappy T-Mobile boot animation - I'm on T-Mobile, on contract, and they supplied my DHD direct, and don't have any branding at all. What other changes did they make to your handset?
Adw laucher let's you hide the notification bar by swiping up on the home screen. Splash screens can be changed. There are posts with instructions in the theme/app section of the dedire hd forum. I've used them and I can confirm, they are working.

Same here, unless he means the lock screen, that comes up T-Mobile apart from that no branding at all.
So is the contract Tmobile HTC Desire HD totally unbranded like all their phones except for the web n walk icon and splash screen ?

My splash screen is HTC and I have no web n walk icon anywhere?
I have a german t-mobile DHD and it came in an unopened retail box but had a custom splash screen as well as custom rom with T-Mob bootanimation, some apps (TV, Navigon Select, some media center...) and some changes like forbidden tethering...
Rooted, S-OFFed and flashed a custom rom without any problems later i flashed a custom splash screen.
So in germany t-mob has some brandings but only software wise.
Was the same with my old Nokia N95 8GB...

AWD Launcher. You can also remove the bottom dock.
Oh yeah im on t-mobile aswell, sent direct from them.I have no tmobile branding anywhere on the phone.
All i had was HTC white screen before the quietly brilliant HTC screen.
If the t-mobile screen you see when booting is first screen you see then to remove that you can only do with eng s-off.
thanks for replies .,was thinking of flashing a new rom over xmas, when can have time to read the tuts and guides.
i dont know if t-mob added any more junk, no branding on handset, only the screens when boot on and off. there is a t-mobile branding on lockscreen, and one of the choices of home themes is a t-mobile one which features what i believe to be certain standard apps (like a mixture of whats available)
well, updated the other day, now reading cant root my phone or do anything at the moment
will now have to wait till next exploit.

Hi, I just got my Omnia II and one of the things I already can't stand is that my operator has created some widgets in the today screen and there doesn't seem a way to remove them. I can drag them around but they won't go back to the widget bar, they are locked in the today screen.
Since I just got the phone I was planning to play around with it for a while before I flash a new rom in it, so it would be really good if I could find a way to get rid of these widgets, since they are just occupying space in my screen.
Anybody knows a Reg Hack or something to "unlock" the widget?
appreciate your comments.
cheers
How do you enabled the H symbol for HSDPA?
Some custom ROMS have it or some customer task bars do as well.
I have read on the Tmobile forum that it can enabled with a simple registry edit, is this true?

I wouldn't be surprised if it is possible to enable it in the registry for the stock icons, but I've never seen one (for this phone or TP2). It always just started appearing anytime I put on custom taskbar icons like speoples mentioned, and that was good enough for me
There is a factory 3g+ icon which I saw for a period of time on my Wife's bone stock HD2.
Ooh, I've been looking into this, since I really wanted the network icon (G/E/3G/H) and didn't really want to install a custom taskbar. Major kudos to all who create them, since I know it's a lot of work, but I 'like' the stock WM6.5 taskbar icons. Most of the custom taskbars are brightly coloured and tacky, or in a style that doesn't match the rest of my interface - I want something that looks, hm, polished and like it's supposed to be there.
The lack of network icon can reportedly be fixed by installing one of the percentage battery indicators - but which one, I'm unsure, since I get super-paranoid about battery drain if I see the percentage, and simply prefer not to do so - thus I never installed it.
Now, I'm unsure whether T-Mo actually took those icons OUT of the ROM's DLLs, or if they just have some kind of overlay/registry entries that prevent them from being shown. This could be checked by extracting the applicable DLL from the stock ROM - I believe it is shellres.192.dll that handles those icons - and checking said DLL to see if the icons are still there
.
Also of note, EU HD2s DO have the network icon visible - so it would theoretically be an easy fix if we could get hold of the EU stock DLLs and associated registry entries. The 'fix' of installing the percentage battery increase, which undoubtedly does include said DLLs, clearly shows this is possible. Of course, for those not wanting the battery percentage, it should be sort of easy-ish to get hold of the cab, disassemble, compare the DLLs to the T-Mo stock, and swap out the battery-associated files, leaving the network icons intact and the battery unchanged.
But since I'm A. Not a dev, just a tech enthusiast who likes to tinker, and B. Lazy as hell, I didn't do any of this.
Instead, I decided I'd muck around with some of the Android taskbars (Which, being created from original Android graphics, look more polished than most custom bars) and see if I could keep my existing custom top and bottom bar skins, as well as my custom start icon. Thankfully, I could, so I'm now happily using Dark Ninja's Android iconset on stock 6.5, including network icons, and I don't have the silly Android start button. Glee!
But I'd be keen to see how anyone got on trying any of the above, since all the searching only revealed a few threads with no result beyond "Install a custom bar" and "Try the percentage battery". Apparently the T-Mo TP2 has the same problem, strange thing to want to remove. Maybe they don't want people knowing offhand where HSPA is available.
Guys my wife just got Hero and I got evo. She changed her wallpaper on unlock screen and now instead of slider whole screen (wallpaper) comes down when trying to unlock the phone. I tried system restore ( she has 2.1 android ) and still same thing - how can I get i back to just moving slider not the whole wallpaper ?
plz help
I think the whole wallpaper is supposed to slide down.

just a slider - thats how it was before and thats how it is with my evo too
Look... Not to be rude or anything, but is this really that big of a deal? When I was ever on a sense rom, the wallpaper ALWAYS slid down. It really is NOT a big deal.
/rant
not to be rude but if it wasnt a big deal to me I wouldnt even post my question here.
I tried hard resets and still no luck
what is strange that I cant downgrade to diff ruu version so maybe rom image got damaged when upgraded to 2.1
If you run an ruu you're not supposed to be able to downgrade, that's why it's a challenge to gain root on new os versions.
I have never seen a sense lockscreen that didn't slide the wallpaper down with the lockbar
so it was like that out of the box until she used picture that she took from the phone and set it as wallpaper then all change and we arent able to get back.
Now my evo is the same - when power on the screen I have a wallpaper and lock bar and then i slide it down only bar moves and the wallpaper just changes to home screen

Not to be rude, but I think you're mistaken. I think you may be confusing your Evo's lock screen with what you think you saw on your wife's Hero's lock screen.
I have had the Hero since launch day, and the lock screen has always slid the entire wallpaper down. I have probably run 40 different ROMs, and this has always been the case.
I just watched an EVO video so I could see how that lock screen behaves. I can guarantee you that I have never seen my phone do that, nor have I seen my two coworkers Heros do that.
Haha, this is funny.
First off... calm down. Oh no, the wallpaper is sliding down! Major issue!
This isn't a major issue. It's more of a personal preference. Posting "MAJOR ISSUE" makes it look like a big problem, then seeing that it is just something you don't like... very deceptive and you just did it to get more attention. Not cool.
Second off, it has ALWAYS slid down. Maybe on a different lock screen it had a different behavior, but the Hero lock-screen (including wallpaper) slides down. It has always been like that. It will always be like that.
Is there a way, on my Samsung S4 Stock ROM 4.3, to change, under settings, the colour for the background from white on black to black on white?
Thank you
Saulo
Using Settings > Accessiility > Negative Colors would in theorysolve my problem...but then this new settings applies to everywhere, to each screen, NOT ONLY to settings...this makes making pictures and movies horrible (pics have reversed colors)...
Any idea?
I have vision issues, so having a black blackground and white characters causes me not to clearly see...
Thanks for any suggestions
I would easily switch to a cooked ROM which has the background colour for settings inverted...By the way, it seems that HTC, iPhone and most major provider choose black characters on white background.. Why then Samsung has choose the oppostite?

Probably because of the s4 screen type... Its amoled, so when it shows black, it actually has the pixel off, thus saving power.

Dear Benny
Yes, probably,. However how is it possible in the world nobody else has the glaring problem that I do experience? I do not want to give up Samsung and return to iPhone just because the apple device have white background, right? there must be a workout...
Thank you

You can blame samsung all you want but in actuality its the carrier you bought the device from, AT&T uses white background setting in most of their roms while Rogers uses Black.
Don't like the background colour, switch to a custom rom/different carriers rom and get white settings.
You can easily find out what colour the settings menus are in various roms by looking at screen shots of the rom prior to installing it.
Thank you so much for your info...
Unfortunately I use a S4: it is UNLOCKED, but it is i9502 (dual SIM), and there is ONLY one cooked ROM available (from SVA, ROM 5.5). Which is excellent by the way.
It has black background.
I am very happy about the ROM. I would not want to change to another cooked ROM. And even if I want, there it NO alternative English ROM to support dual SIM i9502 Samsung S4.
Is there a way that a NON-Tech-sawy like me can accomplish the change of background from black to white or clear? Yes, I cannot do programming, but I am able to fully implement rooting procedures and I know basic Unix commands and terminal operations..
thanks
Saulo
cliff notes: you cant change the lock screen icons or remove them at all.
so it seems the biggest gripe i have with this phone, albeit, not a huge gripe.....
you cannot pick and choose which icons show up on your lock screen tray. it reflects what you have in your unlocked home screen tray.
so if you dont want any icons in your lock screen, then you have to remove them from your homescreen tray.
i have seen many videos of other HTC phones that you can personalize the lock screen, however, on the 816 you do not even have that subfolder for lock screen personalization.
i cannot even remember the last time that i wasnt able to customize the lock screen with whatever icons i wanted to show up or none at all (which is my preference). I guess LG is a little more flexible about this one than HTC.
it has been confirmed per HTC online chat.
do keep in mind, i have no plans on rooting or running a customer rom, nor do i want to hear anyone saying i should, because you're wasting your time.
this isnt something i should have to hack my phone for or to install a launcher or separate lock screen app to do this.
this phone is limited in storage and i shouldnt have to load it up with this crap.
Thread cleaned. People argue over the stupidest stuff on the internet. Everybody take a breather and let it go.
Customization on stock HTC ROMs has gone backwards for years. I've been an HTC user for almost four years and remember when lockscreen shortcuts could be changed, but they've been unchangable separately from the tray since Sense 4. So, it's not just this phone. And I agree it is a step backwards although I think removing skins was a step backwards in customizing HTC phones too. But, I guess that's their choice.
I tried to find a way to remove them, but the only option would be to remove them from the launcher and then use a different launcher which you don't want to do.
If you had wanted to add an app without running a custom launcher or lockscreen, you could enable widgets on the lockscreen. On my HTC One, you go to Settings, Security, Enable lock screen widgets (I'm sure yours is similar). You could then add a widget to whatever app you want (assuming one is available).
Thanks for cleaning up the thread, it certainly needed it. Also thanks for actually giving an adult type response. These responses is what you should look for in a forum not the ones that were deleted from this thread.
the HTC phones I had were before sense 4, I've been on an lg phone kick lately and they've been great. But I came across the 816 phablet and it seems exactly like what I wanted. This issue is a very small one and won't cause me much frustration other than the fact that I don't want them there. But I do use them because they are there, but my preference is that they were not.
OK, this isn't really for OP because he doesn't want to root but for anyone else that wants to use different apps on the lock screen...
Install the Xtended Settings module for Xposed. That will allow you to accomplish what OP wanted. Xtended Settings along with Sense6 Toolbox will allow you to change EVERY DAMNED THING on your Desire 816. And by everything I honestly mean it. I don't think I've found a color or setting that couldn't be changed.
Make sure you have a backup before you play around with things though because there is a lot and if you just play with it and test different things you might forget how to set it back.

Nice find. I've heard of Sense 6 Toolbox but not Xtended settings. It's unfortunate that rooting is the only way to change things.
will it let me get rid of the battery saver mode notification icon?
