[Q] jasjam with cellcom software - can't get online wireless networks - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hello everyone! Thanks for reading my first post.
I have an imate jasjam that comes with some cellcom software. I think this software is preventing me from accessing my wireless network in my house.
When I load up internet explorer it tries to dial Cellcom GPRS - which has no minutes and isn't connected - the phone never goes through the regular internet. Is there a way to disable the cellcom connection and tell the phone to only go through the wireless network?
Interestingly enough, after a soft reset it DOES get online through the wireless, but only for one second... then the cellcom software seemingly "wakes up" and only will try and dial through it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for your time.

Wireless Nighmares with Cingular 8125

I find myself in a situation where I can not use the wifi on my new 8125. I have a new Cingular 8125 and I am having a tough time using it on my home wireless network. It keeps trying to use Cingular network. Is there a way to disable that or make the phone use my wireless home Lynsys router rather than go to Cingular?
When I turn on the wireless on the phone it finds my router but when I go to use IE or Opera and put in a web address it says Connecting to GPRS APN then it gives me an error after trying to connect to Cingular GPRS...and the error says Could no establish a network connection.
This must be an easy fix as my old HP Ipaq had no troblem hooking up with my home network...
I just went in and deleted the cingular settings in Connections. Or if you want, you can hard reset to start over and avoid the Cingular ext ROM by soft reseting when it says it will install the customizations in 3 seconds.
Not that I can add anything to this topic - I just wanted to point out my signature. (cingular is very spotty in my area)
BTW - I never had any conflict on my 8125 between WIFI & GPRS - it just worked.

To fix this issue you need to switch your network settings from Media Net to My ISP.
Go to Start>Settings>Connections tab on bottom>Connections>Advanced tab on bottom>Select Networks>in the drop down box select My ISP.
You should now be able to connect to your home network.

you can also look at this post as it tells you all of the settings to make and/or change:

WiFi Question

I currently don't have a data plan, however I wanted to take advantage of the 801.11b feature on my home network etc. Everytime I connect through WiFi, it tries to go through Cingular GPRS. Is there a way to get online through my network and not Cingular?
I too don't have a data package and also suffered constant unwanted GPRS connections. Since installing the new ROMs, which I assume don't come with the GPRS settings, WiFi works fine.
do I have to install the new ROM for WiFi to work? Where can I get this new ROM?
First, go to Settings, Connections, Advanced, Select networks, and change the first option to "My work network" and this will force it to go through Wifi.
When I had this problem, it still wouldn't work. For some reason, some routers need you to give them DNS info. Call your ISP and ask them what the IP address for their DNS server is. Put this in your router's DNS settings and it will work.
There is nothing wrong with the wifi in the Cingular ROM. A new ROM will not help you.
So this is close to the 'problem' I'm having. My MDA (t-mobile vario) latches on to a wifi network in the area, and I can't figure out how to change it to the network I want it to connect to (other than physically moving to a location that the other networks aren't available).
I always figured it would be listed in settings->wireless LAN. That seems to be display only (the entries are greyed out). Shouldn't there be a listing of detected networks? Shouldn't there be a way to enter a non-broadcasted SSID?
Well, pfft. I didn't search hard enough.
Settings->Connections->Network Cards

I understand what you are all saying but my experience with the I-mate Rom locked up my Router, the new Qtek rom worked first time. I didn't need to search for any settings.
Same
Same here,
First connection no problem but if I want to connect a second time I need to Reset my AP.
Any suggestions.
tnx
specs:
Qtec 9100: 2.17.7.2 WWE
2.07.10
AP: D-link DWL-900AP+
Sorry can't help, mine works OK. Try Qtek Rom 2.17.7.2.WWE

WiFi connection

My Cingular 8125 randomly drops my wifi connection while connected to my home wireless network. Problem did not really seem to start until after I connected once at starbucks to tmobile hot spot.
Please help
have you removed the starbucks settings?
you find it in "network cards" (strange place for it)
yes...i did.
I also have socket communication's wifi companion loaded on my device
prob not the reason, but i recently heard that if someone is trying to "borrow" your internet access.

boots user off network, then you can grab packages as they try to reconnect.

8125 wifi (please help)

Hi,
I just purchased the htc 8125 from cingular at full retail WITHOUT a plan
for use on my trips to Hong Kong using my sim card from a Hong Kong
provider.
While in the USA I would like to use the 8125 to access the internet without
a sim card installed and without cingular service. Wifi does recognize available
networks but I cant open any web pages.
Can you please tell me how to configure the phone to do this. I believe it is
by default programmed to use cingular's access services but I want to configure it to work as a stand alone device similar to a laptop looking for wifi signals to connect to the web.
Please help! Thank you.
David
WiFi is not configured to be used with anything of cingular...WiFi is a standalone feature in the PDA...the reason that you couldn't see a web page could possibly mean that the network you connected to had a WEP encryption...u must connect to an open network in order for it to work...
try this
I have been having problems with my wifi too...the only way that I can get it to work is to say the wifi connects to 'work' and to say that programs connecting to the internet should connect using 'My Work Network'
Turn on your WiFi
Start->Settings->'Connections' tab->WiFi or Network Cards->tap the network you want to use->under 'connects to:' chose: 'Work'->next->next->finish->ok
Start->Settings->'Connections' tab-> Connections->'Advanced' tab->programs connecting to the internet should connect using: 'My Work Network'->ok
hope this will work for you and if anyone knows how I can get around having to change this every time I want to go from GPRS to WiFi I would be much appreciated.
Haha - I just found it...someone else just posted it

Problem Accessing the internet / "modem has disconnected"

Hi,
I have a M700 unlocked from orange. I followed the instructions on flashing the radio and can confirm that the GPS works. I am on T-Mobile "Web and Walk".
I am having problems accessing the internet. I click explorer and navigate to news.bbc.co.uk. A box appears and says "Connecting to Orange WAP, Connecting to GPRS, 3G..". A couple of seconds later the bbc page appears immediately followed by a box that says "Can't Connect. Dialled: The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed tap Settings".
Does anyone know what the problem is?
For example, in settings, Do I need to "Add a new modem connection" or perhaps something in Advanced/Exceptions.
Many thanks for any help.
Your problem is that your M700 still has its settings for Orange, so your internet connection connects to the Orange servers, which take a short time to realise you have a T-Mobile contract, so close the connection,
You must remake all your connections (MMS, Web, WAP etc) to point to T-Mobile's servers, which will then make use of your Web'n'Walk capacity.
Go to HTC's Update Page where there is a link to download a network configuration tool- this has to run from the PC via ActiveSync
i thought u could just set the phone up with T-Mobile access points.
Thats what i did on the phone. Took like 30secs but im on orange.
cheers i will try later
kame1986,
pls can you advise on "T-Mobile access points".
are they on their website. had a good link and cant see anything
I had the 'modem disconnected' problem last week. I could not fathom it from any settings, nor did setting up new connection settings for orange internet or WAP do anything.
So I thought i'd try a good old fashioned soft reset, and hey-presto success!
I get this on my HTC
I get the modem disconect message every now and then, the only way to cure it is to restart and all works fine.
I have also had an issue where the phone wouldnt connect to the network a couple of times, again a restart and all is well.
