So here it is, the Nexus S.
I think a lot of people are mad because the sites like engadget fueled mad rumors about the device and now people are like, meh!
Personally i expected to be like a GSG with some added bonuses.
So what would you do?
I have voted the #2
I feel burned by samsung with the GPS and magnetic compass problems on my Vibrant. I don't know if I will ever get a Samsung again. I had HTC phones for years and never had hardware problems. So I think I can safely say no to the new phone.

Never expect the very best and you'll never be disappointed
I think of the Nexus-S as a good upgrade to the Nexus-1 and I am debating about buying it or not. The Nexus One is the best phone I've ever had and when Google closed down their webstore I thought there would never be another pure Google phone again so I figured I would keep the Nexus-1 for 4 to 5 years (its that good) until it stopped working...
But that damn SuperAMOLED and 4' screen is an evil temptress!!! Sigh decisions decisions

To tell the truth i have used the vibrant for a month after the N1, the Vibrant felt a better phone, sure the plastic build don't help but it is nicely build and the plastic used in the vibrant is from high grade, the molds used by samsung must have been very expensive as the parts were so precise, yes people don't notice that but its there. And overall the vibrant was a nice solid piece.
HTC phones are heavier sure a nice heft is nice but weight does not equal quality, I.E N1 had the ****tiest digitizer, the power button sucks big time. The G2 has hinges problems, the MT4G has the LCD lottery and the FFC being not centered. I don't know why people don't mention that when they say things about HTC. It seems like they only have praise for them. For the record HTC warranty isn't any better than samsung. You have to send the phone in and wait 3 weeks. The only good warranty experience i had with them is the warranty swap of Nexus One but that is the ONLY phone they have such a program.

HTC never had hardware problems? Are you forgetting about the huge multi-touch issues on the majority of their Android devices up until the latest ones? A much huger ****up than Samsung software screwups. GPS is flawless on my Vibrant running JK2 and JK6 froyo leaks. Was on JI6 2.1 leak as well.

I was wondering about doing this option as well and it seems like $350 - 400 is the going rate on Craigslist atm...
Hrm is it worth the $350 (off N1 sale) + $220 out of pocket to upgrade to the Nexus-S?
Maybe I'll just wait the 4 - 5 months for a Nexus-S to go on Craigslist and scoop it up
If I buy the NS unlocked, can I use it with AT&T's sim? If yes then I'm so will be there.

I replaced my first MT4G because of a dead pixel, now I found out that the second one has Inferior display after I did the comparison and the bottom of the phone creaks too. How many times do I have to try my luck now? I think I will give the NS a shot now.

People dont buy this phone for the Nexus name, people buy this phone for the "pure android experience".....and the google and developer support.
I dont like the Galaxy S phones either because of how they feel but I will be picking this up
Its a matter of preference and to me support means more than being aesthetically pleasing

Same size as the HD2, which is NOT too big...the overall dimensions of the phone are just a little taller than our N1 and about it looks like half an inch wider.

front facing 1.3 mp camera is pretty cool, video chatting ftw
1500mah battery will not last long in there at all
id consider selling my tmo nexus1 when that comes out on sprint
depends on how sprint decides to handle their 4g data plans
afaik they will not be offering all you can use on 4g

There is nothing the new iPhone that will come out this year have that will be better than the EVO!!! **** I want it
I'm personally sick of chasing phones, my n1 seems pretty cool still, nothing really kicks its arse...
Plus imo its too big.. the hd2 looked way bigger than my n1 when I compared them...
4.0 would be perfect... I most definitely ain't switching providers.... n1 for me all year unless a better processor comes out I could care less about the camera and front camera... just my opinion...
But looks cool though
I don't think the big screen is gonna be pocket friendly and HTC is just throwing phones out there that won't reach quick updates like the Nexus. Sure the Evo is better spec'd but the support the Nexus will get from Google will keep it at the top until Googles Nexus Two. I just think all these random HTC Android phones like the Incredible, Desire, and the Evo are one and done androids. They will get Android 3.0 like 8 months after the Nexus and that will most likely be it. While the Nexus is there getting fed updates.
I really am excited to see applrs response to all these amazing phones.
getting it on the first day without a doubt.
CDMA fail...
After switching from an iPhone 3gs I really have come to despise exclusivity agreements with carriers the way the EVO 4g will be. If HTC goes out of their way to make the EVO 4g available on all the carriers the way Google is going to do with the N1 then I would consider EVO 4g but otherwise I wont support that kind of shady business practice anymore. This is why I support an open company like Google which puts the customer first and gives them options they are asking for.

At the end of the day, this is going to help Android increase their market share, which is what we all should be rooting for.

Looks like preorder for the G2 will start tomorrow and the phones will be for sale at stores October 6th. Anyone preordering or getting a G2? I am a bit undecided, i am thinking about possibly picking one up and playing with one alongside my vibrant and seeing which one I like more and selling/returning the other. I love the screen on the samsung but no led notifaction and the plasticy build quality are bummers, not to mention not much support from samsung. If you are getting one or not getting one, why or why not? Just curious, the samsung is my first android phone so I have no previous experience besides playing with my brothers G1 back in the day.
No thanks. I am so over slide-out keyboards now that I have been introduced to Swype...
fF
nope, more than happy with my Vibrant. slide out keyboards are old (imo) I had a slide out keyboard back in 2005...and it makes the phone too bulky (imo)
but i am Excited to see how the g2 performs.
why would i downgrade my phone?
I'm surprised nobody said "Vibrant gave me so much problems (because of my ignorance) so I'm preordering the G2 also!"
I'm not going to get it. Although it is a beastly phone from the specs that I've read, but I don't need a qwerty keyboard phone, unless it's slim like Samsung has done with the Epic. Also, I wander how the battery life is going to be.
Can't afford to have both, but I am surprised to see that there are so many with that much disposable income.
As I've been telling my customers... Don't fall for the hype. Stick with the Vibrant.

i havent had a keyboard since a Nokia E71, not sure i really need it, thats why i figure i can take advantage of the remorse period and see if I like it/use it...i bought my vibrant from costco so im still within the return policy (90 days)
Not even that intereated in it. So its a beefed up htc Dream, fabulous if you need a slider with good specs, but I'm fine with my vibrant. I'm just as fast if not faster with swype then I was on the only decent qwerty phones ever back in my blackberry days.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
you'd have to be an idiot to preorder the damn phone considering how 99% of the vibrant owners on here got ****ed by tmobile.
want the phone on launch day? that'll be $249.99 + $18 upgrade fee + tax, minus $50 MIR 2 months later. so a solid $240 for us here in dallas.
then i get online and after a couple weeks see that everyone else was able to get the phone from costco, walmart, wirefly, amazon, etc for around $100 with no dumb ass MIR or upgrade fee.
oh, but i cant take my phone back and go buy it at costco or walmart because i've used my "upgrade" and the only place that can do an "override" to get my 2yr renewal pricing is a tmobile store.

Like what someone said, why downgrade?
Plasticy build? I bet if they made the back cover metal it'd change your perspective. The glass and trim is excellent built quality. Sure the back cover is plastic, but that was the whole point for it being light weight. For those who have covers like me, I don't care if the back cover is plastic.
The G2 is all hype. It seems like big news because Tmo is actually advertising it like crazy, unlike the Vibrant that got little press. Either way....why downgrade?
the vibrant didnt get much press but the entire galaxy line is getting advertised out the ass. everyone i know that used to be a staunch iphone supporter is like "whoa whoa whoa now.. wtf is this galaxy s phone? have you heard about it? i wanna get one, i saw it on tv, it looks awesome!"
I see no need to update, personally I believe the Vibrant is 10x better looking then the G2, I like the fact that it's lightweight and not much out there can beat this AMOLED screen. I've went from a 1st gen iPhone to the G1, and now to the Vibrant, the G2 is not in my feature.
yeah i got my vibrant from costco, $250 with no contract I just really like installing different roms and such and am wondering if this phone wont take the vibrant spotlight being an htc and also having vanilla android on it

G2 is a downgrade from vibrant imo. the specs are not even at par with the vibrant. The only thing it got going for the G2 is that it will be released with Froyo. Once vibrant gets froyo either ota or from a Dev, it will run faster than it is now. I read somewhere that 2.1 is not using all the available ram since it only sees 384 ram and Froyo will be able to see all 512.
My vibrant is too awesome. Plus im really picky on how keyboards feel. I didn't like the droid, the epic 4g....actually, i only liked the one on my blackberry. Plus, there fewer physical weaknesses in the vibrants body in comparison to the G2.
Come on {OP} wtf is the point of you even posting this in the Vibrant forums, go post this somewhere else plz! stop trying to cause drama.
The only reason to make a switch to the G2 would be because it's fully compatible with HSPA+ or you just need a physical keyboard. Once froyo is running on both phones it'll be clear the Vibrant is the winner.

I don't know why anyone would buy a phone at release unless it's just to play with a second toy. If you plan to use it as your primary phone, I would suggest waiting a few weeks to see what kinds of bugs or glitches pop up.

I've never heard that Samsung had a horrible name in the mobile phone industry. I've heard that they aren't the greatest with providing updates, but the hardware in their phones is almost always the latest and greatest when the phones are released. Given the size and form factor, I can't say that my Fascinate feels flimsy either. If it weighed much more than it does, I'd wonder more about why it was so heavy over enjoying how much more sturdy it felt.
On a more personal note, if all you are going to do is come in here and bash the Fascinate, and not provide anything of any use or substance, I suggest you look elsewhere to read and post, possibly here
The Fascinate is among the best phone, hardware wise. Although, I do agree about the flimsy part. Coming from a Touch Pro, the Fascinate feels flimsy. If you feel that way too, I would recommend the verizon stand case. It adds a nice heft to the phone and feels very solid.
Also, ignore the trolls. I honestly believe that the iPhone is the ONLY way to go for some people.
no i know the hardware is great....if it works properly...ie:gps but cpu and gpu are great.
Yeah i got rid of my fascinate thank god. I came from the iphone on att but left because of the network. And now on verizon i tried android....but there are no quality apps, almost no push notification apps...ie:sports apps

Well it's been an adventure..... But my Nexus One finally got to the point where it's irritating me. (My Power Button stopped working.) I don't have insurance on it, anyways everything else is in perfect condition running Cyanogen Stable version. I don't know I've owned G1, Mytouch, Nexus, and I guess I just want something new for the New Year, I am trying to wait and see what new phones come out, but I preferably want something with a Front Facing camera. I was thinking of the Mytouch 4G before the G2 for the front camera, when is the LG Optimus 2X suppose to launch??? Is it for Tmobile? And I bought the Nexus from a person on XDA while ago.

No your from chicago too? Eh >_< ima PM you
1. Had the same problem with my first (bootloader unlocked) Nexus One. HTC replaced it in under 2 days. I sent it to them on Monday via UPS with their prepaid shipping label, and the replacement was on my doorstep Wednesday morning.
2. The MyTouch 4G is the only one on T-Mobile I'd consider a worthy replacement. If you go with an HD2, yes you get screen real estate, but you also get ****ty battery life, no front-facing camera, no guarantee of Gingerbread, let alone Honeycomb, and most importantly, no HSPA+.
3. The G2 is pretty rad. Bought for my wife, she loves it. She's a physical keyboard type, but I dislike the added bulk and weight, though the rest of the phone is quite solid. 800mhz 2nd gen snapdragon OC's to like 1.4Ghz if you want.
All-in-all, I'd recommend you do what I'm doing, which is to return your Nexus to HTC for repairs and/or fix it yourself with the aforementioned link, and then wait for the LG Optimus 2X before you decide.
Dual-core Tegra2, HSPA+, and 1080p recording make me not give a sh*t about any other phones coming out right now, tbh.

my mom just got a MT4G and its a sick little phone... I am not big on Sense but overall the build quality is great and the reception is solid as well. I still like the LED screen over the TFT but w/e... cannot have everything right?
I would honestly get you N1 fixed and then wait for all the new goodies to come out here in February... CES is in 3 days so you do not even have to wait that long to see what is in store for us...
Alright well then ill keep the Nexus, how much did it cost? I see that HTC is indeed covering damages without insurance or warranty I think.
LG Optimus 2X, when is that coming out? And is it Tmob?

I spent about 5 hours at Best Buy yesterday trying out all the Android's on every carrier. IMO the best phone out there is the Nexus S. Sure it's not perfect, but what it does have it excels at. Almost everything I loved about the N1 has been improved with the S. I love the pure google experience without all the crapware that comes loaded on carrier phones. Plus, the S will always get everything first. I won't leave Nexus but I'll be happy with the S until something better comes along

Unless you bought a stolen phone, it should still be covered under warranty.
HTC covers their devices for 1 Year and considering the N1 isn't a year old yet, you should still be covered (even if you bought it used).

pretty awesome deal, also if you're a premier member call them they will waive activation and give you credits
This is what they do to get rid of any stock units. Eol for Epic production it seems.

someone was just talking about it's eol for the epic.. so what's the replacement phone? g2x or something? because as far as i know, im going back to htc.. only because of the dev community, DEF NOT FOR 3D. anyone have a clue??
lol you also get a free lady gaga cd with a 2 year activation
lol figures
ya clearly screw lady gaga but for free? Im all about that. I already have it but def getting it for a family member since we are about to have gingerbread etc seems like the phones about to hit its sweet spot honestly.
Figures, and I just upgraded my phone to an Epic but payed $90 though Amazon. Wonder if I am able to return it and get my upgrade credit back to buy it though Bestbuy. Oddly enough, I went to bestbuy first to buy it to see if they would price match, but was a no go.
Well, that's definitely a kick in the no-nos. Paid $230 7 months ago and now it's free. smdh.
Bought mine back in january, its ok, my next purchase will be a tablet, so ill get all the new feature with that.

I suppose its possible. Looks like they are featuring an Android phone from each of the big 3. AT&T HTC Inspire "4G", free also. Do you think its at end of life? Just asking because I have no idea what it usually sells for. Also, Verizon Fascinate is free.

It's far from end of life. It will stay being their best keyboard phone as the galaxy 2 wont have one. I mean it really depends what you want out of your phone but for free...this hardware will still be considered very solid and able to perform for the next couple years

I agree. What I should have opened with is "I suppose anything is possible". Its what I really meant.
Oh, and thanks for your post. One daughter has a Hero and another has a Pixi and they both are in need of a new phone. My son and I have Epics and we love them. For me though, I have found Swype so easy I hardly ever open my keyboard.

What do you mean waive activation. Can't I just go online and activate myself? Also, what do you mean "give you credits".
Thanks again!

It's the nature of consumer electronics these days; fast depreciation. It's entire possible that this phone could go Eol in a few months. It is no longer the newest and fastest device on the block.
I wonder if there will be an "Epic 2", or at least a Galaxy S2 with a keyboard. Samsung seems to be releasing a new Galaxy S every year. I imagine we will have more information around late summer.

Crazy Deal! I say you go for the deal that gives you the free Lady Gaga CD.
I'm so pissed that I bought this phone a week ago. Now I have to waste $35 for a gay ass restocking fee. I'm never upgrading my phone through Sprint store again. I'll just do it online now since it doesn't have this gay fee.
Evo 3d
$199
on contract!!!
I think my father's actually planning on getting an Epic in the next week or two. He is impressed with mine and frustrated beyond belief with his old blackberry. His contract is up so at zero cost I expect him to be happy with this. And honestly, a 1ghz phone that will be running GB in the near future w/ a 4in screen and a 5-row keyboard. There's very little that compares.
nice deal, i'll pick one up
