were you born without fingers? it's super simple to flash a rom...
step 1 download rom
step 2 save downloaded file to phone's sdcard
step 3 reboot phone and hold volume down while booting
step 4 select recovery
step 5 wipe cache (sometimes full wipe is necessary but in your case the cache will be fine)
step 6 choose flash zip file from phone
step 7 pick the file you downloaded
step 8 pick yes
step 9 select reboot phone
step 10 enjoy

Hi everyone,
I have a friend who owns a mytouch 4g and he did root the device using instructions on the forum, visionary and then terminal emulator...
Everything was working great.
Then he did something stupid which is follow a youtube video on how to overclock but he ignored the fact that this procedure required running a custom rom on your phone.
This is the youtube link he followed
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amEwtRSH5ZQ
Now when attempting to turn his phone on it shows Mytouch 4G splash screen then reboots and it keeps doing the same thing over and over
I have a Samsung Vibrant and if something goes wrong I can always use Odin and place the phone in Download mode to bring it back to stock...
Is there such a procedure for the mytouch 4g and can someone provide step by step or point me in the right direction please or is there any other way to get this phone to boot up normally, or revert back to stock?!
I tried searching the forum but it seems to me that everything required the phone being able to boot up normally...
Thank you.
Have you tried taking the battery out for 30 seconds, i have a htc hd2 and how i get back to factory settings on my phone i turn the phone off and it comes back to wnd 2.6. I hope this helps
Isn't hd2 windows mobile?!

Load the PD15IMG on the sdacard and boot into HBoot for a 100% stock restore. Links can be found in the development section. Or flash a new ROM that will replace the kernel. Did he do a nandroid backup?

Thank you! I am doing it as I type this. Watching the progress bar now, at about 1/2 blue....
Hopefully it will work.
Thanks again!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
After it was done it asked if I want to run the update, didn't know what to select so I hit yes, and it seemed to do the same thing all over again but this time after the initial progress bar it actually said updating unzipping and whatever not in like 7 or 8 different steps and then it said press power to reboot.
Did this step revert to stock recovery or is the cwm recovery still intact somewhere?! How would I verify?!

Ok bought an evo on eBay, after getting rid of my evo for a blackberry and realizing I made a huge mistake. It's used but like new.
I go to the boot screen and it says s-off. Then I select recovery but it goes to an evo with a red triangle.
What can I do?
Thanks

If you can acess the bootloader, I would recommend searching in the rooting wiki and look for a PCIMG file place that in the root of the sd card(hopefully your comp has a media reader) and insert the sd card with that file and the bootloader should detect when you select recovery.
What that file does is resets everything on the phone to stock. if you could find a RUU that might work but if your comp cant see the phone its useless i hope this helps
oh hey just stole this from a post from mattykins(thanks for the link) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060

If you're s off, your rooted. The triangle means you have no recovery. All you need to do is flash a PC36IMG of recovery, using the bootloader. Once you do that, you'll have recovery, and can flash a rom of your choice. That's it. No need to re root or ruu or anything like that. Just recovery, that's it.

This would probably be the easiest thing. DL clockwork from the market and install the recovery I prefer amon_ra it will be at the bottom under alternate recoveries. Also do a nand backup as soon as you have a recovery.
I agree with above, just get rom manager from the market and flash a recovery...simple
We're comin from a pure power source.

SUre, give me one sec to upload a file for you. And as the other guys suggested, flashing a recovery using ROM manager would be your easiest bet. HOWEVER, if you dont have the SUPER USER app, (which i bet you do not), rom manager wont work. t herefore you cant flash anything with it.
So give me one sec, and i'll upload what you need to flash, with instructions for ya
EDIT: I attatched a recovery for you. It's Amon Ra V2.3. Download the PC36IMG, and leave it named exactly as it is. Place the file on the main directory (root) of your sd card. Power your phone off completely. Then boot to the bootloader by holding the power and volume down buttons simultaneously. When it gets to the bootloader, after a sec it will scan for files, and find the PC36IMG. It will then ask you if you want to update, so select yes (volume UP). Once it's done flashing, it'll ask you to reboot. Select no. Then choose the 'recovery' option from the bootloader menu. You should now successfully boot into Amon Ra V2.3 recovery. From that point, you can create a backup of your current setup. Then you can perform a full wipe, and then flash the rom of your choice.
And what ever you do DON'T restore a nandroid from your old phone. You will wipe out your 4g if the wimax partition is included in the nandroid.

Ok that worked. I now have Amon ra recovery
But, lol, one more question. Amon ra has changed since I've had an evo.. now when I select backup, it has a list of things I want to back up with "[x]" next to them. Which items should I select? It didn't have that feature in the past so I'm a little lost.

Right, that feature was added after version 1.8.0 (which I still use). I believe you want to check all of the boxes, for your first backup. (I'm not sure if you need to have everything checked after that, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt). I've seen people say that you only need to back up your wimax one time, then keep the file in a safe place (it's your RSA keys), however I just can't see what the problem is with backing it up each time. I kind of like the simplicity of 1.8.0, just hit backup and let it do it's thing. Whatever the heck 1.8.0 automatically backs up on its own, works perfectly fine for me, lol.
So I would just check everything off, and then let it perform the backup.
EDIT: and sorry I don't have more info on that for ya. I'm sure someone else who regulrarly uses ar 2.3 will chime in, and give you a more solid answer. I just simply don't use that recovery, as I never saw a need to 'upgrade' from 1.8.0, because it has always worked flawlessly for me. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'd say you could use 1.8.0 if you wanted to, but I believe it won't work on the 004 hardware phones with the 0040000 size erase block.
Ok cool.
Thanks again
And yes i remember the simple way, things are supposed to get easier as time goes on, not more complicated, haha!

I need the stock splash screen for mytouch 4g. I changed it to the nexus s Google splash screen when I switched to cm7. I need to unroot it to use the insurance for a replacement. Even if he unroots, it'll still be what ever he changed it to. You can flash roms left an right, but that'll still always be the same. The location of the splash screen file is different then where we have our roms located.

I backed up everything from when I first flashed a new rom, including the splash.
Here's a link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YE603C62
Here's how to change it though you should already know:
Here is how to flash a new splash screen image to your phone using Terminal emulator.
Please keep in mind that as with any mod you can damage your phone beyond repair if done incorrectly.
1. Rename your 480x800 image file to (custom.img) and move it to your sdcard.
2.Open Terminal Emulator and type "su" to get a #
3.Then type this exactly as it appears and hit enter. Make sure not to make any mistakes!!!
dd if=/mnt/sdcard/custom.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p19
It should show you that the file has transfered. You can now back out of terminal emulator and reboot
your phone to see the new splash screen.

Thank you. I downloaded and unrared the file. But I can't seem to get it with terminal emulator. I typed the commands exactly, and even tried modifying them as my phone shows /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.2/mmcblk0op19
Any ideas?
#AngelFace#
Before there's a need to ask. I unrared it and put the custom.img in the root folder of my sdcard.

The clockworkmod method doesn't always work.
Mine right now is doing this same problem and when I go into recovery Clockworkmod only gives me the red triangle of death. And yes, all my recoveries are flashed with the correct versions. (I know what I'm doing)
Sometimes there's just a series of things that all goes wrong in the perfect order.
****This How TO was made for use with ClockworkMod Recovery. And may not work on other recoverys.****
To make this easier we will use Rom Manager for some of this How To. Here is the download link https://market.android.com/details?...xLDEsImNvbS5rb3VzaGlrZHV0dGEucm9tbWFuYWdlciJd
**Step 1**
If you don't have ClockworkMod Recovery please continue follow this step. If you have it or dont want to use ClockworkMod Recovery move to the next step.
1.) In Rom Manager choose “Flash ClockworkMod Recovery” and select you fone. And follow the step that are giving to you. Now you have ClockworkMod Recovery on your fone.
**Step 2**
Now with that said download your new soon to be favorite rom. You can find some here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13633553&postcount=2 .
After you download the rom move it to the root of your SD card(not a must but it does make it easier). Remember on some rom you must also download and flash the GAPPS. Make sure you download the needed zip and move to the root of your SD card also.
**Google Wallet Step** (Not Required)
Also if you rom does not include Google Wallet you may want to run down the flash-able zip and also put it on the root of your SD card.
**Step 3**
Now it is time too boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. Goto Rom Manager and select”Reboot into Recovery”
Now you should be in ClockworkMod Recovery.
How to navigate in ClockworkMod Recovery: Volume Rocker = Up/Down, Power Button = Select, Back Button = Back(duh)
Now I would suggest backing up your current rom by doing a nandroid backup. Use this guide to learn how. http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_backup_or_recover_via_Nandroid
**Step 4**
Now in ClockworkMod Recovery it is time to prepare your fone to flash the new rom.
1.) Got “wipe cache parition” and select it. Then select “ Yes – Wipe Cache” Now t should take you back t he first screen.
2.) Goto “advanced” and select it.
3.) Now goto “Wipe Dalvik Cache” Then select “ Yes – Wipe Davik Cache” Now t should take you back the advanced screen.
4.) Next go back to the main screen and select “mounts and storage”
5.) Now format /system, /cache, /data, /boot
**Step 5**
Now that we have prepared our fone to flash the rom it is time to do that now.
1.) On the main screen goto “install zip from sdcard”
2.) Now choose “choose zip from sdcard”
3.) Next find the rom zip and select it(if you put it on the root of you SD card it should be somewhere near the bottom)
4.) Now just select “Yes” your rom will install it's self now. When it is done it will take you back to the screen in step 2 of this step.
**GAPPS Step** (Skip if your rom does not need you to flash the GAPPS or if you just dont need them.)
1.) Select “choose zip from sdcard”
2.) Next find the GAPPS zip and select it(if you put it on the root of you SD card it should be somewhere near the bottom)
3.) Now just select “Yes” GAPPS will install it's self now. When it is done it will take you back to the screen in step 1 of this step.
**Google Wallet Step** (Skip this if you do not wish to flash Google Wallet.)
4.) Select “choose zip from sdcard”
5.) Next find the Google Wallet zip and select it(if you put it on the root of you SD card it should be somewhere near the bottom)
6.) Now just select “Yes” Google Wallet will install it's self now. When it is done it will take you back to the screen in step 1 of this step.
**Step 6**
Go back to the main screen of ClockworkMod Recovery and choose “reboot system now”. Your fone will reboot it's self. This first reboot can take upto 5 to 10 minutes this is normal. When you fone boots into your new rom follow the on screen directions to see up your Google account. When done reboot your system. Now you are done.

"There are only two kinds of people in the world.
The people who like me and the people who don't, the people who don't, hate me cause they ain't me."
