Sprint won't tell me.
Anyone got any credible info on when we might expect 4G turned on in these areas?
All the Sprintbots will say is "soon".
I really, really, really need another way to run my battery down faster.

Sprint has said in repeated news releases that San Francisco will have 4g by the end of this year. In fact there are reports that much of San Francisco is already up on 4g.

Thanks guys!
My family's up in the east bay, so the BA is interesting to me... I live in the Santa Cruz area, however, so any news on that would be most welcome!
Emeryville has it and I believe Oakland does as well.
I was in the city last week and had it.
4g is suppose to go live on the 28th of this month. It will have a roll out effect so some people will have it before then, but the entire service will be live by the date. The source I'm providing talks about Denver, but in the article there is a date for the bay area

Hey if anyone wants to know I can help out with on-air dates for 4G sites in Los Angeles and Orange County. Just give me town and cross-street and I will post periodically with the on-air dates for that area. Most of this area will be covered by Dec. 2010 but many sites are coming up early.
I can't say how I know this but let's just say that this is the most accurate information that Clearwire/Sprint can provide.
Orange County:
Cities: Aliso Viejo and Irvine
Cross Streets: Doesn't really matter just curious for the area.
If it is required:
Alton Pkwy and Irvine Ctr Dr. (Irvine)
Aliso Creek and Pacific Park (Aliso Viejo)
is it coming to suburb areas like the San Fernando Valley?
Hello secret agent! Los Angeles/Silverlake (town). Sunset and Santa Monica junction(cross street). Thanks for any info! Been waiting patiently for 4G in LA.

City: Woodland Hills
Cross Streets: De Soto and Oxnard
I'd also like to know when the general San Fernando Valley will be live if you can provide a rough date.
Azusa, San Gabriel and Pasadena areas please
What about Long Beach? Cross streets: Spring and Palo Verde

If Verizon throws out its LTE and T-Mobile its HSPA+ before Sprint gets its 4G out in major cities we got a real problem and Sprint f-ed up.

So Miramar as in California? I am not following the reference of "do"
when I read "do" I heard it as urban slang for "dude"
In context:
"wassup my ninja, we gotsus som fo gees up in tha heezy do!"
4 gizzle in my shizzle fo rizzle holmes.
What ??
Where in Miramar?? I am just a couple of miles down the road.....
I guess I'll be driving back and forth in Mira Mesa tonight...

Miramar, FL ?
lol, yeah I am on base in miramar... as in San Diego CA do.
Did I use that in the right context?? lol
Any updates on 4g in San Diego?

oceanside in the pipeline
I recently saw a posted notice for a permit application to install a 4g tower at oceanside blvd and pch for Clearwire. I'm assuming Sprint customers would have access to Clear towers as Sprint is a major shareholder and the company was started by the guy who started Nextel, so there is definitely some corporate incest going on here. Go to clear.com for more info on their plans for expansion for more insight. My guess is within a year or so do

I live and work in central Orange County (CA) and I haven't found many places around here where I can't get a 4G signal. I don't leave 4G on by default, though, because the signal is still inconsistent enough to have a negative impact on my battery life. That, and the 3G network is fast enough for my typical data use.
But it sure is nice to have 4G when I need it.
Pete
Well, no 4g in imperial beach. Of course I wasn't expecting it...
To bad 4G cant reach to southern OC, only to Irvine isnt far enough.
I havent heard it being announced for San Diego yet so its weird the sales rep would say that. Even check Clear's website, SD isnt listed as a future city.
Got to hope for the best tho
I live in Campbell and been getting at least 1 bar of 4G consistently. Not a good signal but at least I'm getting something. Getting full 4G coverage in Cupertino and Santa Clara. My friend's a store manager at Sprint and told me they're launching 4G officially in October. Hope this is a good news for some of you. Thought I should share.
sent from my EVO
There's no way they're launching in San Francisco by next month. There's no signal anywhere even for testing. Maybe the san jose market will launch next month but san francisco will definitely take a while to launch.
Because, I'm pretty sure, all 4G launches are preceded by at least some sort of test signals... Which we have nothing in SF.

Sorry to hear that man. Hopefully they will. It would be silly for Sprint if they don't launch it in frisco considering the huge market.

Yeah, I work a lot in Palo Alto, and the whole downtown has the Clear Innovation network live, and there is some decent speeds. The other day while going on 101 South near Capitol Expwy exit in San Jose, I got over 7mbps in my car, while driving. That was epic.

wow that's awesome! i live a mile away from that area, i'm going to have to test it out. where i work near 101 and lawrence i can get 3.8-4.5 depending on if i have 1 or 2 bars.
I have managed to get 8Mbps in downtown San Jose. Covers the area past the Pavillion and up to the airport. Downtown has the best speeds though.
Just last weekend i got ~9Mbps near Walmart, Mountain View. Haven't got any 4G signal in palo alto area.

Excellent glad to hear it, welcome to 4G.
I live in Clyde, about 40 mins away. I am pumped to try this out. Where exactly in Toledo have you experienced this? I know that in Columbus, 4g was only available near Polaris. I really hope 4g makes it way east to me, even if it does suck my battery more than one of those pale, glittery vampires from Twilight.
Ok, where is a cool place in the 4g coverage area I can go to hang out for a while and test the 4g on my phone? I'm SE Michigan and Toledo is the closest I have to a place with 4g, and I am starting to become obsessed with testing it out
Looking for something off 75 before the 475 interchange where I can occupy myself for a couple hours to test it out
4g in Youngstown Ohio
4g is now live in Youngstown Ohio. Anybody else notice?
Its live in downtown I believe. Check clearwire's map tho to be sure. Watch a Walleyes game or go to the restaurants that aren't closed yet on the docks.

Im originally from toledo and coverage actually looks spotty downtown by the water. If I were you id start at westfield shopping town off 475/talmadge even if the map doesn't show it there, and proceed with caution as you travel toward downtown on monroe, maybe try again near westgate mall ( best buy monroe/secor or sears or home depot by central/secor) but lock your doors if you end up near monroe and detroit

Actually just south of homewood and hillcrest is willys park which might be best for you, right off I-75 and wide open area in the center of coverage, and a safe area compared to a lot of the coverage area.
Or, maybe the toledo hospital in case you get shot (kidding).
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
If I remember correctly its all based around the new arenas which would be smart.
Edit: Looking at the map right now, it seems that spans from Dorr Street to as far north as Eleanor but coverage is sparse. It does seem to be around the new arenas though Right around Michigan Street and Erie Street. Most of Bancroft and Monroe is covered downtown. As is Detroit. Maybe I'll have to flash over to CM 6.2.1 Alpha and test it out when I go to another Walleye game.
Edit 2: Looks like only the Huntington Center is covered. Fifth Third is just out of range. At least thats what the map says.

I was able to pick up the signal on my commute to work going 475 east to 75 south. I connected to Sprint's 4G somewhere between the Detroit Ave exit and the Collingwood exit, with 1 or 2 bars as I headed downtown. Once downtown on Washington Ave, my signal fluctuated between 0 and 1 bar, and was basically lost once I got to Summit St.

I live near Central/Douglas, and no 4g here yet. I'm surprised its working downtown, as Toledo wasn't supposed to get it til late this year. Maybe they are just testing it.

I was also wondering what map you were looking at, thanks for that. I went ahead and downloaded their "Got Clear?" App from the market.

I was looking at that last night and thinking, no matter how great the EVO x is my EVO still holds it's own. Since Michigan will be blanketed in LTE by 2014, I am going to wait, Sprint has great plans, but lightsquared drama has to negatively impact their LTE roll out.
And why buy a phone in 2012 when I can't use 4G until a year or 2 years later. I did that with EVO, and assumed a Verizon kind of roll out.
I really hope Sprint stays on track with LTE roll out and they may retain me otherwise VZW with unlimited data might get my business (yes if u try hard enough u can get it)
Sent from my Synergized Aggressive Lionfish Evo using the XDA app
Yea, it says they will be ready by 2014, but with no specific rollout dates for my area, Michigan, I will be switching to Verizon in the next few months, once they get a nest gen phone like the One X or something similar. Verizon has had working 4g for over a year in my area now. There's no way I'm waiting another 2 years to get it here, and have dial-up speed 3g in the meantime. I gave Sprint 12 years of my business, and I hate to leave, but in today's world data is everything, and I need that to be able to do my job.
With the announcement one the HTC EVO One for Sprint, I am puzzled as to how they decide what cities to start their rollout of LTE. San Antonio? Baltimore? Kansas City?
No New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, etc.
OK, so Houston and Dallas. Meh.
With an LTE iPhone possibly coming out later this year, how many iPhonies do they think will hang on waiting while both Verizon and AT&T (yuk) are offering LTE in the biggest markets?
Sure, they're saying just wait, but really, how many people have the discipline? I probably will, but only because returning to AT&T is not an option as far as I'm concerned, and I hear horror stories about big red nickle and dimeing their customers.
What incentive do I have to get the HTC EVO One when there won't be any LTE here in LA, while my old EVO can still use WiMax?
On an unrelated question: does anyone know if LTE phones automatically switch between 3G and LTE? One thing I always hated about WiMax is having to manually turn it on every time I want to use it!
Pretty sure LTE would require manual control just like WiMax.

Hey now! Some of use are awful excited that Dallas is on that list!
But seriously. I'm wondering if the Dallas choice was because of the AT&T headquarters and the fact that Sprint phones are getting MURDERED by att speeds. (At least where i'm at)
Nothing against Dallas. Texas is a great country.
I just think Sprint needs to make a big splash about LTE if they want to limit churn. Dan Hesse has done an outstanding job so far, imo. But if I were in charge of Sprint, I would make NY,and LA, among the first cities, just for PR purposes.
Even aliens know to blow up one of those two cities when they first invade Earth!

FIRST ROUND MARKETS (14):
First round markets have no preceding markets before them. NV OEM's will mobilize in these markets and begin deployment. These markets will deploy slowly as there is a significant learning curve to Network Vision. Most first round markets started between December 2011 and March 2012.

SECOND ROUND MARKETS (27):
Second round markets start based on First Round markets completing before them. There is a lot of variability of when Second Round markets start, between June/July 2012 and December 2012. It will all depend on how quickly the First Round market deployments go. Some preliminary work is being done in advance in these Second Markets as well. It's possible that if delays begin to occur in the First Round markets, NV OEM's may hire up additional subcontractors and get some key Second Round markets going. I don't know about the rest of you, but forget LTE coverage -- I'm just waiting for Sprint to get regular coverage on the tower that's been my in my neighborhood like they promised (and their coverage map showed) for the last 3 years!
I have found the Wimax coverage in Florida to be more than adequate. No, I can't get it at my house, but I have WiFi there. But just about everywhere else when I'm traveling or in even small local cities, I get Wimax.
Sprint is about two years behind on LTE. Not very enticing to stay with them after my contract is up in the Fall. The only reason why I didn't demand early contract termination is because I like my EVO 4G phone and don't feel like spending another $300 on a new Verizon phone at the moment.
