Where's the ROM chefs? - Droid Pro General

Hi,
How come there is no ROM sub-forum and chefs actively cooking up ROMs for this wonderful device that finally has a physical keyboard. I am getting over making a mistake very 4th or 5th word.

Probably because it's boring to make ROMs for a device you can't yet load them onto.

Do you mean because there's no custom recovery created yet?

There's a sub-forum, just no developers to fill it yet

We have root! What else do we need?!
Chop chop!

Wait for a while till this phone becomes readily available and popular. We will soon find chef's cooking up ROM's. Patience has to be your virtue.

Probably because the phone just came out. Calm down and wait

Lets take up a collection and get skyraider dude a droid pro so he'll build us some SR love.

If some of you personally know of good chefs @ the Motorola Droid sub-forums - invite them here.

Now that you can use Bootstrap Recovery for the Pro (use Droid 2 Bootstrap Recovery in the Market), the ROMs should be flowing hopefully in the near future.

Can someone post a stock rom like its a custom rom so I can flash back to stock?

It's great to hear that the Droid 2 bootstrap works for the Droid Pro. And I also would be very thankful if someone could provide a Droid Pro ROM which could possibly help me un-brick my Droid Pro.
Thanks!

Rom port

I was looking through the lists of roms for the droid 2 and I saw that all the roms are either stock or blur or half blur.... I was wondering if it would even be possible to port the MIUI rom over to the droid 2. It is made for the incredible, nexus 1, original droid, evo, and a few other big name phones and I was thinking we should port it over to the droid 2.
I know there are going to be a bunch of complications but I still don't really understand why a bunch of these roms don't work yet for the droid 2 and what is involved in porting them over...
thanks a lot,
ljbaumer

i fully agree, i was excited about coming from the eris to the d2 in hopes that this rom existed for it. i've been pretty bummed out since vzw swapped me out because the eris dev community was so strong... i would love to see a miui rom though...
I am in the process of doing this. Last two attempts have been unsuccesful. I am trying to get help from the devs that have been succesful.

It would be hard, but I am gonna work on it after my AOSP build. I would be buggy though, because it is an aosp rom.

right on man, sounds great. how is unleashed 3 coming along?
If we were able to get MIUI on to the droid 2 would we be able to use a similar strategy for porting sense over?
Also when is someone gonna work on a kitchen for the D2? I feel like once we get a kitchen set up for this baby we're gonna get a bunch of cool new roms

I came from the Original Droid and the Dev community was HUGE! I would practially have a new ROM every week and I could switch so easily with Rom Manager. I loved it, the D2 just seems too hard to root, I've had to do so many sbf restores, I miss my old OG Droid.

Sorry I should have rephrased myself. Rooting is terribly easy compared to the old way on the OG droid. But I meant installing roms is such a pain on the D2
I am another former Eris user. There were a TON of really great ROMs on that phone. I said it before, I'll say it again: I knew eFuse would mean a diminished number of ROMs and a smaller dev community but I was honestly astonished at how small it is. I'm hoping the Matt churns out his Unleashed 3 here real soon as that would be the perfect basis for a kitchen. Having a good, solid kitchen would be all that we'd need to see some more good, non-Blur ROMs pop up.

I am from eris also and I made roms for myself (not for the public). It was a great community and I did a lot of beta testing for the developer of white widow rom series ( which was a big hit).
I wish some devs would move over or we atleast get a kitchen...

You can thank Moto for locking the bootlader and making us jump through hoops and using work arounds to get what we want out of our devices. If we had an unlocked bootloader then we could just install a new kernel but I assume new devices will have similar securities on them so at least from moto get used to working around until someone on the inside slips the keys.

New ROMS based on what??? We have HTC Sense ROMs for Eclair 2.1 and Froyo 2.2 and AOSP CM 6.1. What else are you looking?
Personally I hate visiting the other device forums because everybody and their brother has 'cooked' up another ROM (mostly just new themes or added favorite apps). IMO who has time to stiff through all the various ROMs and threads? I find it much easier to review 3 different ROM threads and try to help others than to try and go through 10 or 15 threads and seeing messages such as 'well this worked on this ROM but it doesn't on that ROM, why not?'
OK, I'll get off my soap box now...
I agree. Plenty of good variety in the ROMs we have.

There's nothing wrong with that actually. Sometimes it's a good thing because there are more people developing towards something greater. We have 1 or 2 guys doing all this work. There are some pretty badass ROMs for the more popular phones out there. If we had more people developing and cooking, we'd no doubt have something better than what we have even now.
Screw those giant phones.
But a little more ROMS would be cool, we just need more people with the Aria.
It's not a bad phone...hah.

Not too sure, as I have only had the Aria and used the two ROMS.
it's not a bad thing that we may only have 3 roms, but they are actually good quality roms, not just thrown together, and they are constantly being updated, but it would be kool if they had more help with them. Although i wish they had some people creating or porting themes, if i knew how i would, if anybody wanna help me learn, i wouldn't mind contributing by making themes for the aria, cause i kno i'm not the only one wishing they could have a theme to try out

I recently rooted and installed CM6.1.0RC2, and only thing I'd say it's missing is Flash Lite compared to Sense. Wish there was a way to get Flash Lite on CM, sadly not possible. Still loving CM though. Might test Sense again when there's an official Froyo update from AT&T and attn1 has taken out all the bloatware.

That's right folks- get your supercharged Froyo sense goodness now with the newer kernel source released by HTC for the HTC legend. Everything works as far as I know, except for the built in wifi hotspot app for which we have replaced with the working Wireless Tether app thanks to the work of shakerhero. Final thanks go to attn1 and jznomoney for their hard work on the CM kernel, ladios for bundling up the kernel, trackpad wake fix, and wireless tether in a single, proper package.

I think this sort of thing is one of the biggest real annoyances of not having Froyo yet. To be honest the leaked DK28 is pretty good, but I think everyone (myself included) feels hesitant to commit to things because we'll do it "after Froyo comes".
For the longest time I did not upgrade to the DK28 because I figured fully cooked Froyo was around the corner. Certainly if I was a dev I would be hesitant to put effort into a ROM or a kitchen (not to mention kernal) until the final version was out. The biggest problem with not having it yet is not missing some specific features, its just that all the development for the Epic has this somewhat tentative feel to it as we all wait for Froyo and the Froyo source code.
exactly,I didnt want to make a ROM,but I had to get the name out there anyway,so....but yeah alot of devs really arnt giving 100% time/effort yet,but from what I hear somthing solid will be coming down the pipe very soon...

A kitchen is a way of setting up custom roms on the fly. Usually it's web based - you click through a series of pages choosing exactly what features you want in your rom. e.g. I want kernal x, with theme y, with boot animation z, etc. Often you also get a list of apps you can have pre-installed on the ROM - typically freeware system tweaking stuff (Spare Parts, ATK, etc.) You get to the last page, click the button and poof, a customized ROM downloads to your computer. You just move it the SD card, load it up in recovery and you're good to go.
Sounds pretty great, because it really is, but no one is going to bother to set all that up until we have some finalized Froyo on hand. Really, it is unlikely to happen until after we have the Froyo source code, and then after custom kernels are released, which will take even longer.
In the meantime we wait...
Is there anywhere/anyone that/who could teach me how Android runs so that I can do some custom mods when we do finally get Froyo? I'm new to the developing scene.

Upgrading DHD to Gingerbread 2.3

Hi, not long had my DHD but it came with Stock Firmware from Orange so I successfully installed 1.32.405.6 which is all good so far!
I now want to upgrade to gingerbread 2.3 which looks good from what I've seen on youtube! Just want to know if there is an upgrade guide online anywhere? Also will I be able to downgrade to 1.32.405.6 in the future if I don't like it?
I also noticed that a few of the 2.3 roms have a few glitches with certain things not working on the phone. Is there a stable release where everything works properly as it should?
I prefer to wait for HTC to release a 2.3 version. I am sure the usual suspects will do a great job optimizing it.

does any know if 2.3 has improved bluetooth compability with mw600 headset for caller id
We only really have Cyanogenmod 7 at the moment. It's actually pretty stable for the most part but it still need work.

Hello there,
i just want to know that is it possible to downgrade to froyo if i need to due to some operator related issues?
Looking forward to your kind reply.
Thanks in advance.
There are rumours about Android 2.4. Google is going to do an Android Event on Feb 2nd.
I think they will announce 2.4 officially & I think HTC is busy with updating the HTC Sense to this version of Android.
But who knows, let's hope HTC won't give up with updating our beloved Desire HD
now that would be nice.. Looking forward for it.
still stuck with the 2.2.... still not getting 2.2.1, so i'm getting little worried..

Yep. I was able to flash the leedroid froyo rom after just to see if i could. But for restoring froyo backups i think you need to reflash CWM 2.5 (because you will then be using CWM 3.0.0.5 to flash gingerbread).
Is it really needed to take half a year to get a damn update? If we eventually get 2.3 when will we get the next one, after 2 years?
The mobile manufacturers are really doing a bad job with their updates, and we need to put some pressure on them.

it's just something you have to live with, once you've got the phone they lose interest in you and try and attract new paying suckers customers, if you want the latest and greatest go with the custom ROM's i.e cm 7 which tend to be at the head of the field

And what do you consider a 'good' job? Diverting all resources to updating the DHD? What about the Desire? Or the Hero? Or all the other phones? Or maybe you think that because you bought a DHD, that's the only phone that must get updates? And what about developing new ones, so the company doesn't fall behind the competition? 2011 will see boom of tablets, dual-core CPUs and whoever knows what. According to your logic HTC should make one phone and dedicate to supporting it for years. It might work for Apple, but that's because no one but them makes IOS devices, so they don't have the same competition, as all Android manufacturers face from each other. HTC are doing the best there is regarding the updates. If you feel that's not good enough, you can always try a community ROM, HTCs devices are the first that get them anyway.

Just been to that link and saw this written in one of the posts
Here is a litte guide for using fastboot:
First of all you need the newest Android-SDK. You get this here
After installation (or extracting for Mac/Linux) copy fastboot into the "tools"-folder. You get this here
Your phone needs Engineering HBoot, have a look here
Now download CMW 3.0.0.5 into your tools-folder.
Now reboot your phone into the Bootloader, plug in USB and on your PC switch to Terminal/Command. Change into the tools-folder.
In terminal type:
fastboot-mac flash recovery ace-cwm-3.0.0.5.img
and press enter.
(If your using windows it's just fastboot and on linux it's fastboot-linux.
You can flash a radio by copying a radio.img into the tools-folder and type
fastboot-mac flash radio radio.img

They should make better Apps and better Engines for Games first before they make all these versions.

[Q] Sense rom for T-Mobile US HD2?

Unfortunately, I can't find the Tmobile US download link to the file. They only have older versions of it. Can anyone suggest a better rom, or provide me with a download link with the most recent version of the rom I linked to? Thanks.

I do believe I mispoke. I wasn't asking which one was the best, in that sense (pun intended) I was asking which one best fits the description of my needs. I will edit the OP so that it is less "directed" at offending anyone.
EDIT: I didn't ever call anyone's rom the best, I definitely meant that it was the closest rom I could find that fits my needs.

was not pointing you out , just means I should not tell you what I think is the best so I gave you a site with all the hd2 Rom's listed, you just type sense in search on that page and dig-in
Dungphp's Desire Z and Vivo ROMs are pretty good Sense ROMs. They have little to no graphics glitches, and are generally pretty smooth in usage. The links for the T-mobile versions are down though, but I had posted them up to Mediafire for a few people who wanted them- I can send you the links if interested.

Send away, man. Are they very graphical and aesthetically pleasing? I like roms that have a lot of animation. Also, could you link me to any tweaks and extras that come with the ROMs? I would appreciate that greatly.

Here's the original thread, it has any additional add-ons/tweaks.

Here's the ROM links. I had to split it into two files since Mediafire only allows 200 MB files [but it's fast DL speeds should make up for that].
Thanks a bunch dude. Question though, do I just unzip both parts, combine them in one folder, and then re-zip? Don't want to brick my phone.....

Use HJsplit to get the joined together .zip. Then put that on your SD and flash as usual.
