Hello all,
I am having trouble with the network unlock (subsidy code) on my WinMo 6.5 Tmobile HTC HD2. I have tried a pay-site solution as I no longer have my TMobile account (moved to Alaska). The site replied that the IMEI number supplied could not be unlocked and that a data connection to a PC might be required.
!QUESTION!:
Who can unlock this phone for me? I have tried. I have danger spl and a custom Energy rom. The IMEI matches on the handset and in software. I would rather pay a forum member through paypal or find out what I need in order to unlock this phone. I have a dual boot android partition installed on the handset as well. Maybe this had something to do with the fact I cannot unlock via traditional methods.
Thanks for any help you can give,

Hi,
Although I have a HTC Dream, unlocked, I'm considering to buy a Magic since it has more RAM (Vodafone/TMN Portugal sells 32A Boards).
My question is, isn't rooting enough to remove the Sim Lock?
I mean, we flash new SPL, new recovery, and new ROM. How and where is the SIM Lock status retained?
Isn't it overwritten by the flash process? Does the operator checks in real time the IMEI against their allowed IMEI database?
Thanks for the patience.
Best regards,
Anthon.

I have found a nice thread in the Hero section that explains, sort of, my questions in detail:

Thanks
I believe that rooting, does nothing to the SIM code. You have to get the unlock code from your current carrier, in order to use another carrier's SIM card. But, once it's unlocked, it will stay unlocked. (unlike the iPhone) I got my unlock code by calling the carrier, and they emailed it to me. It keeps the resale value up
Hi all,
first of all appologies if I am posting this in the wrong place but I don't think it quite belobgs in ROM development .
My question is basicaly how do I find out what CID lock is on my HD2?
I bought the phone sim unlocked and all is fine. It works fine with my Virgin sim (UK). I would like to upgrade to the latest official ROM as I don't feel ready to experiment with cooked ROMs just yet.
However when I log on to the HTC web site and try to download a ROM it says "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
I have tried it from both the UK and Europe web sites but get the same result.
The current rom shows no branding of any sort, also there is non on the phone itself.
Is it CID locked to an operators SIM's? If so how do I find out which and will I be able to get a ROM from them if I don't use them?
Or will I have to go the HSPL route and go cooked roms?
Any Help or guidance greatly appreciated.
Regards
Clive
There are truely unlocked phones, and then there are those unlocked but the serial numbers are blocked on request of the service provider. Vodafone, O2 and (I'm guessing) Virgin do this so you can only upgrade when they OK the ROM release.
You can install HSPL which gets around all that and lets you explore the wonderful world of cooked ROMs...read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
ROM lock and SIM lock are not the same and not connected.
If the HTC website says invalid serial, then the ROM is locked. (Probably to Virgin, if that's where you got it from) and you must wait for them (virgin) to release the update. That is the ONLY way to install a new rom without using HSPL/SSPL
EDIT - Oh, and your line "Or will I have to go the HSPL route and go cooked roms?", , , , HSPL isn't just for cooked roms, it will let you install official HTC roms too, if you want, not just cooked ones.
I didn't get it from Virgin, my SIM is Virgin and that's what I put in it. I bought it privately. I'm guessing then it is CID Locked to Vodaphone or the like.
OK so it looks like HSPL is the route to go?
If I want to install an official HTC ROM how can I download it as I have to enter my serial number and it gets rejected? Are they available elsewhere?
Am I likely to loose anything (apart from guarantee ) by installing latest HTC rom and any advice on which one? I guess by that I mean EU or UK versions?
Thanks for the replies by the way much appreciated
Its pretty important that you know who it was locked to, because to uninstal HSPL, or to fix it if things go bad, the very best thing to have available is the stock rom. As for losing guarantee, if you bought it privately then you already lost that, right?

Pretty much although I could send it back through the seller.
Is there way way I can get a copy of the current ROM/SPL out of my phone and save it as a backup?
Hello all,
I have a little bit of an issue. I have bought an unlock code for my Hero and when using it, despite the fact that he says "Unlock successful", I still can't join the network and when restarting the phone, he asks me again for the code.
I think it may be because I am running a custom ROM, Elelinux special edition that somewhat the unlock code doesn't take.
Anyone can confirm that it is indeed the case? What is the best ROM to run to unlock and where to find it otherwise?
Cheers,
L
Actually, I have just worked it out. Just needed to flash an old Modaco Rom, unlock and now it works with any rom..
I have a similar problem. I tried to unlock my HTC Hero with a code and it didn't work. The phone has all original firmware and has not been rooted at all. My carrier is Orange Romania and the phone was boght with a subscription so it's locked...
Someone told me that I need to unlock it with a special cable that I do not have...
Sorry for the n00b questions
Hi , i have HD2 with android rom that is locked to T-Mobile USA
i wanted to know if i buy unlock code (20$) and type it in the android rom will it unlock the phone or do i need windows mobile Rom ? because i can not flash windows mobile rom any more due to the volume button is destroyed ( the sticker that clicks is lost / both of them )
can i buy network unlock code and use it in android rom directly ?
thanks
I'm going to say "no, you must use winmo " because 99% of reports are that it doesn't work under android, however there are one or two posts where people claim that yes you can, however I believe they are mistaken.
I just unlocked mine with a free code from t-mobile. I uses android only. Seems no problem. I rebooted several time. It does not ask me Pin any more. Am using typhoon 3.8.1.
Hello, i just bought a verizon htc trophy and i live in Peru, does someone knows a website where i could unlock free?
also, i read when i flash the phone to a custom ROM the phone free it selfs?
To carrier unlock it, you can call Verizon and ask them to unlock the SIM for international travel, but no guarantees.
To developer unlock or full unlock (using either WP SDK for the first or the DFT HSPL tool) the Trophy you need to follow the various tutorials out there.

They have a number for peru.
0-800-50010
If that doesn't work, just use the live chat at VerizonWireless.com

To have the sim unlock you have to call verizon. There isn't any other way to unlock it unless you pick up an aftermarket sim, which I can't help you with. (I don't know, nor know if they are legal in the US.) They might be able to unlock it depending on how long the last owner had it on their plan.
Besides, its a good PDA. Flash the Norkser 8858 rom and follow the steps for CAB updates in the WP7 Development and Hacking forum.

That not quite how windows phones work. Flashing a different rom, only flashes the OS, not the stuff that directly interacts with the Hardware, e.g. the Radio driver. There is only three radios for the Verizon Trophy and they are all from Verizon, so there isn't much to do. The Radio is what controls the SIM locking, and no one has tried decompiling it, afaik. I'm afraid that you either have to contact the last owner or call verizon. Not much more I can do.
You can try and see if its been already unlocked by inserting your SIM, but chances are that it will prompt you for an unlock code. You can get that from various sites online and pay, or try Verizon for free.
