Ya. Thats pretty unfortunate.
Without GPS its useless for me
Well it works, but only for a day or two before you have to restart the phone, I've been having to do that on my Droid. But Im not making excuses, I've read that Samsung is going to have a fix shortly.

so much for hoping the Fascinate would ship with froyo but now i have to wait for this fix? how is it possible that the samsung epic had a fix?
Verizon better not be disabling gps in order for the to sell their agps VZ navigator crap
So it works as long as you reboot the phone from time to time?
Has anyone tried running the fascinate gps with VZ NAvigator?
So can u download google maps and use that? That may or may not be the dealbreaker for me, someone who knows please answer this question for me as i was planning on being the first one in the store on thursday and they are already holding one for me
Edit: i understand gps sucks, i still want to have google maps tho.

It comes with Google maps. Yes GPS doesn't work the best, but its good enough for me. Never not found me and directs me where to go. Yes could be better but its not useless. I use mine daily.
I've read the GPS problem is software based, something the way its calculating something is wrong, idk.. Samsung is saying they are going to fix it through a software patch, if that's the case, wouldn't rooting and installing stock Froyo or another ROM fix this issue?
iv been using the fascinate for a week now and yes the bing being the main search engine is annoying. and the bing maps does find me it usually takes 60sec or less. bt it does not give voice guided directions. i did install google maps and you can search fine and it finds you right away bt when you go to navigate option it will search and never come up just gives you the route turn list no voice guidance. bt playing with the phone if you go into the navigation app that installs with google maps and do your search in that and do the navigate it will do voice turn by turn. im pretty happy this is working. it still annoys me that bing is on the phone in the first place it belongs in the garbage.
I can wait for the GPS fix. Everything else about this phone is so amazing. Especially that GPU.

That's why i'm rooting the first chance I get. I'm going to remove all the bloatware that I can.
I will say, gpu is crazy, i played need for speed shift on the fascinate, OMG i thought my DX played it well, not even close. Case closed, this phone is sickness. Wish it didn't look like iDouche tho

Based on my examination of the system dump, your SUPL settings are still defaulted www.spirent-lcs.com. Change those to supl.google.com, port 7276, secure sockets off, turn AGPS on by changing mode to MS Based, and see how it works. There are further driver level improvements coming. On my Captivate, there is a significant increase in speed of locking and accuracy when going from JF6 to JH2, and that's not the final fix yet.

where would you make those changes at?
UPDATE NEVERMIND
1 - Disable "Use Wireless Networks" - Settings / Location & Security
2 - Dial *#*#1472365#*#*
3 - Under "Application settings" Change "Operation Mode" to MS Based
4 - Under "SUPL/CP Settings" Change the SERVER & PORT to supl.google.com and port 7276 [ Do not use www. in front of supl]
5 - REBOOT
6 - Turn back on the "User Wireless Networks"
i'm not sure if this applies to everyone, but from what i've tested gps works perfectly in google maps. it shows my location to the accuracy of what corner of my work parking lot i'm standing in. however, if i use the test gps app, it shows no signal. very odd.
Its out if anyone cares lol.

Same here.
I think it requires froyo.
need to tap location button twice.
Tapping the location button twice activates the compass mode that makes the map rotate with the direction you're facing.
The actual map rotation gesture requires 2.2 so we're SOL for the moment haha.

We're talking about being able to rotate the map via multitouch, not compass.
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=1079043
For some reason it lists Galaxy S but not any of the US carrier models, maybe that's why? Maybe they just did a hard check for those models because they might not have a good way to check for touchscreen features properly.

Phone in the video on their blog looks like a US Galaxy S device. Probably a Vibrant (I'm secretly hoping it's a Fascinate)...

the notes on the gesture section state
Note:
Rotating gestures require Android OS 2.2 or later.
This list of devices may be incomplete and may change in the future as new Android phones are available for purchase.
How the hell did you get the 3d working?

It looks like the Nexus S to me based on the color scheme, although I don't know what the order of the buttons is which is probably the best identifier (sadly).
Has anyone noticed better gps accuracy or response times when enabling the sensor aiding, GLONASS, or both in the high fidelity position app?
I have been trying different tests and I am inconclusive.
Since latest update to it I have noticed when it is enabled I keep a tighter accuracy ring longer. Where as before it would lose accuracy faster as I moved. I have been using the Outdoor Navigation app from GPS Tuner with great results for Geocaching.

This app worked great. I have just bought a new phone and the app is no longer available to install from the market place.
I think the last version was 1.4.
Does anyone know why it was pulled and if it will return.

i installed the app using that exact link about 2 hours before i made that post (had just hard reset).
i went to this page on my phone http://www.wpcentral.com/new-samsung-high-fidelity-position-enhances-gps-modifies-settings and clicked the link they provided.
again this is all from the phone, also..once installed it is in your settings at the bottom..not the app list.
mail the link to your phone and then click on it from there.
I was puzzled for a few minutes as after it installed it seemed to disappear.
I found it in Settings at the bottom of the list.

Separate. Read here:
The app has two settings: "Use Sensor Aiding" where it uses those extra sensors and "GLONASS" or GLObal Navigation Satellite System, developed by the Russians and which you can enable and use at the same time to enhance location availability. (Looks like Sammy is making some new international deals).
In addition:
You have the option to use sensor aiding to help with pedestrian positioning and using GLONASS.
GLONASS is short for Globalnaya navigatsionnaya sputnikovaya sistema or mildly put, Global Navigation Satellite System. As best as I can understand things, GLONASS is a Russian version of the U.S. GPS system. It compliments your Windows Phone GPS to enhance location availability.
I will navigate with it today.

In that thread, it use mock method.
It has some latency and do not have star map.
This picture, it's a star map.
The picture you show in the op looks like sat postions to me. I was not aware of a star map.
Perhaps you could elaborate more so I can be more clear on what you have accomplished beyond tether gps and what apps you are running.
Since I am a pilot any improvement on the KF gps navigation is of great interest to me.

I write a hardware gps driver for wifi shared gps.
So it's totally different from mock gps. It has very low latency.
Interesting. Keep us posted.
I use TetherGPS as a server for my Nexus S and client on the Kindle Fire. It works great with Google Maps and other GPS enabled apps.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.comptonsoft.tgps&hl=en
One of the most missed features on the KF was a lack of GPS. There are a whole bunch of Weather related stuff I could do with a KF enabled with a GPS.
I saw the other article about using Tether GPS and thought I'd give it a try.
I already have a copy of SQLite Editor so I just used it to change the mock settings in the database on the phone. Real easy.
Loaded the TetherGPS on my Droid Incredible and the KF and linked the KF to my Dinc to get the signal.
Works Great!
Yes and the OP seems to have coded a better solution however is being rather quiet about what or how he did it.
just to throw some kerosene on this.
it was mentioned in another thread that the wifi chip also has gps capabilities.
I think he has written an app to pull location info from WiFi access points. The problem with that is you have to have access to WiFi that has GPS.
My 4G Hotspot for example does not have GPS in it. I think the other model 4G, the MiFi model does. Not sure you can get that info from a Hotspot tether from a smart phone though.
The difference between his GPS Status display and mine, is his shows Sat positions, mine does not. I'm pretty sure that is because TetherGPS does not send that info.
GPS on the fire? I'm so excited I could pee my pants! Do tell us how it's done!
I’m having some difficulties to find working GPS software with the Aurora ROM, I don’t know if this is a ROM and/or ICS android problem.
The google Navigation is working but it’s very poor software.
The goal of this topic is to share our experience and possible workaround.
WORKING GPS SOFTWARE:
Google Navigation
NAVFree (nice free software, not so powerful but good for the money!)
igo v8.4.3.179971
NOT WORKING GPS SOFTWARE:
Ndrive v11.0.6
Sygic v11.2.6
Waze v3.0.1.1
TMN Drive v11.4.03
i have tmn drive and it is working just fine.
you should update your first post and say that the software itselft works.
the only thing that won't work is when you start navigation. or press volume up or down. (ndrive / tmn drive) it crashes.
because when just viewing the mapwith signal locked, it works fine.
ogaitz: can you start navigate to somewhere in tmn drive? I doubt, no one can.
i have tmn drive but its not working!!!
really strange.
tmn drive does not work... It says No GPS!
[edit]
Google Maps works fine... Strange!
i use igo8, it crashed on Google tts service in Aurora 1.9.
in 1.10 it works, you should try under Text and Speech if your TTS works.
maybe you could post a logcat on this crash, so i could see where the bug exactly is.
Anyone with Sygic? mine can't even complete the "initialization" screen, crashing every time.
Sygic 11.2.6

Just to draw your attention to XDA rule 15. Keep posts/threads on-topic
Whilst a minor amount of off-topic posting may be overlooked, the general rule is your posts / threads must be relevant to the Forum / thread in which you are posting.
Your question has no relevance to this thread. I suggest you ask in the ROM thread, or if that rom has a support thread, then ask there.
Peace!
anybody knows if these problems with gps are ROM problems or ICS problems?

I think that a GPS software has implicit navigation, to explore maps we don't need GPS.
Loureiro,
Thanks, I think that it's an important issue to all, and discuss in the Aurora thread is very confusing...
Regarding Sygic, I confirm what you said, version 11.2.6 don't work. What i've tested is in the first post.

What I mean that it's not necessary to edit first post, because GPS software is too navigation, not explore maps.
People should report working or non working software that they use to navigate.

Thanks for this information, can you just add software version?
edit:
I've just updated the first post with a new software that I tested (NAVfree), and the result is good.
Free software with nice features.
TMN Drive is not working. It detects GPS and behaves normally until you press the "navigate" button, then it crashes.
I have iGO8, version 8.4.3.179971 and it is working great. I tested it yesterday and navigation works, was using it on my way home from work -20 km and it was ok. It does voice directions and recalculate routes without any problem.Gps fix is fast 10-15 sec and accurate. I use Aurora 1.11.
Thank you for sharing I will check, I've an older version of Igo 8.4.2
edit:
I've Installed 8.4.3 and don't close after 20/30 seconds, I will test driving home and update 1st post later on.
